Beware. Rentalsource is a funnel for apartmenthunterz. (who carries complaints of re-listing false/stolen/out-of-date listings and collecting registration fees from rental seekers in exchange for false information.

Here's my experience today [protected])

"Rentalsource" had an apartment listing. I typed in to ask for more info about it. I immediately received a reply from "apartmenthunterz" that said this apartment wasn't available. They offered an alternate listing. But I've already called on the second listing from a Craigslist ad and it's not available and not their listing. I was asked to register and pay to get contact information that's free on Craigslist, has a different agent (property manager) and doesn't belong to them.

I can find no evidence that the agent named on "rentalsource" for any of the many apartments listed under this name exists.

Rentalsource is just a funnel for the apartmenthunterz..

I forgot to also add that it's entirely possible that the listing in question was valid, but was currently in a state of transition - ie. removed from source website but hadn't yet been removed from ours.

This is quite common when a property manager posts their available rentals on multiple sites, but doesn't do a great job of removing those listings when they're no longer available.

Thanks again!
Ashley

Hi Anon43,

I'm the founder of RentalSource and just stumbled across this posting from 2015, but wanted to respond in case anyone else comes across it.

RentalSource is an independent company that's based in Raleigh, NC and provides real estate rental search & advertising services. We work with thousands of property managers along with top-tier rental websites (listed on www.rentalsource.com/about) to provide the best user experience, but sometimes, regardless of our best efforts, fraudulent listings do make it past our fraud detect algorithms. When these listings are brought to our attention, usually shortly after their posting, we immediately remove them and ban the associated account.

The company that's mentioned in the above posting has no relation to RentalSource and appears to have gone out of business quite sometime ago. If one of their listings did appear on our website & was indeed fraudulent, it was most likely promptly removed. If the above comment provided more information, I'd be able to look further into this, but unfortunately they don't provide the apartment's address or listing id number.

If anyone does read this and is looking for an apartment or home rental, I invite you to try out our service. It's completely free to use and if you have any feedback on how it could be improved, we'd love to hear from you.

Thank you,
Ashley
