Rent-A-Center customer service/treatment/morals?...

It goes beyond saying that Rent-A-Center is horrible HORRIBLE place that takes advantage of desperate people who are tired of sitting and sleeping on the floor. I went in 11/29/2015 and paid almost $200 for a bed and couch. They weren't able to deliver until 12/6 and that actually ended up happening 12/11. By the time 12/17 came, they were asking me for payment again...despite the fact that they JUST delivered everything a week prior. I didn't pay $200 for it to sit in your warehouse until you decided to deliver. Second issue, once they delivered everything, they put my bed together so sloppy it fell apart while I was sleep! I had to wake up, find a tool kit and try to fix what they did. Third issue, when they delivered my items on 12/17 I let the lady know that I had just been in ROLLOVER car accident, I'm in the hospital and would be home that day(which is why I wanted my bed), and I would make a payment as soon as possible even though you took my $200 and took almost 3 weeks to deliver. She said okay, unapologetic. By the time the 21st came around, the lady from RAC was calling again. I ended up having to go up North to have surgery after having my rollover accident. They left 32 messages on my phone, not sure how many times they called by my phone records show over 30 times in a two week period, which means they were calling more than twice a day. They also called my employer - thus now my employer knows my business :/ . They also made several visits to my home, upsetting neighbors because they were banging on the door so loud. One of my neighbors thought it was the police member. I had a family member watching my home while I went up north to have my surgery. On 01/08/2016, my family member called my mother(where I was staying at up north for surgery) panicked and I asked what's wrong. She said Rent-A-Center came and she let them know I wasn't there and the man left a card saying he had came there. Then she said a couple hours later, the man came back with another man banging and hitting the door so hard and loud she was scared. *My neighbors also complained, again..* She opened the door and the men just started to barge in. She kept repeating that I wasn't present and that she would reach out to me. The men were VERY rude. They pushed my family member out of the way, talked to her in a very disgusting manner, and they also took the furniture while I wasn't present and while I had my personal sheets, covers, and blankets STILL on my bed. RAC is disgusting, greedy, and flat out ghetto. The manager was even rude to me when I first applied for the furniture. After I submitted my app and picked out my furniture, I called her a week later to see if she had verified my employment/residence. She lazily and forgetfully said no. I got so tired of waiting, I just took her my paystub, employment verification letter, copy of my lease, and a bill. I did her job.. Usually, companies are sympathetic to their clients, providing grace periods, extensions, payments plans, anything that helps to keep the client-company relationship ( I KNOW BECAUSE I WORK FOR A HUGE CORPORATION). It's safe to say, Rent-A-Center could care less. I was going to buy the furniture in full as soon I got back in town because I was gonna need it for my Physical Rehab but I went home to hard ### floors. They did something similar to my mother in the early 2000's. My grandma died and my mother went to San Francisco. She even called Rent-A-Center and told them she would be out of town and would make a payment as soon as she got back. They neighbors observed them coming to our house everyday despite that call. My mom just told them to pick it up because it's not worth the harassment. I definitely felt harassed and I know several other people who will say the same. It's no wonder Aaron's Furniture is 100, 000 times better than RAC and I will be trying them next. My sister rented her furniture there in 2010 and eventually bought and it's still gorgeous and looking pristine. I'd rather deal with her price for better professionalism, selection, and treatment. RAC, learn how to please your customers. You're a business...

Rent-A-Center sales, delivery lack of professionalism

I purchased a Samsung High Definition TV with a surround sound from Rent A Center on Thursday Dec. 3, 2015. I was told I had to pay $31.07 before it can be delivered. However on Friday I receive a call that the delivery guy is coming until I told them I wasn't home. The merchandise was delivered on Friday. On Saturday I receive a call that they are coming back to pick up merchandise because I had not paid. Upon signing the contract their salesman did not tell me to pay either. Now today is Dec. 7, 2015 and I receive a call that they are sending police for stolen property . I did not refuse to pay I told them I would pay by Thursday since they did not remember to tell me to pay. In turn I got a lot of lip back from Robert their salesman, the unprofessional Rent A Center police they have. Never again they feed of the poor people.

Rent-A-Center vehicle damaged by rent-a-center driver

On 10/15/15 I was returning home from an appointment in downtown Seattle. As I was driving north on Western Avenue, A Rent-A-Center box truck traveling north also, passed me on the left, striking my driver's mirror, pushing it forward. The driver stopped a few feet ahead, I asked him to pull over as he had struck my vehicle. He did so, acknowledging he had hit the mirror causing what appeared to be minor damage. He contacted his store manager, relayed he had hit my mirror with his passenger side mirror and facetimed the damage to his manager. The driver provided the company insurance card (which was expired) and provided a number to call his store. The police were not called as there were no injuries, the damage appeared to be minor and the mirror was able to electronically return to the proper setting. I contacted Rent-A-Center the following day and was unable to speak to the manager as he was "out". The following week my husband and I attended our son's wedding and left town for a prescheduled work assignment. During that time, my husband returned for a brief assignment in Seattle and was able to obtain an estimate for repairs to the mirror. As it turns out, my late model F150 HD edition truck's mirror cannot be repaired, it must be replaced. I once again contacted Rent-A-Center and asked for a fax number to which I could fax the estimate. The estimate was faxed, I asked for a return call as I wanted to schedule the repair upon my return to Seattle. No call was returned. I called Rent-A-Center inquiring as to receipt of the estimate and was told it was received, they didn't contact me as they did not have my number. I provided my number again and re-sent the fax, which did indeed have my telephone number listed. When I called on November 20th, I was given an adjusters name and phone number. I contacted the adjuster who asked a minimum number of questions and told me my description of the incident did not correspond with the Rent-A-Center driver's version. She refused to provide me with any details though she said she would contact the driver and clarify. When she returned my call, she stated my claim was being denied. I stated that was ridiculous as the driver immediately pulled over, admitted to damaging my vehicle, apologized for damaging my vehicle, provided his company's insurance information, contacted his store manager and began the call with "I just hit this lady's mirror". The adjuster said he did not say that and that an apology is not an admission of guilt. I explained he apologized after admitting he struck my vehicle. My last statement to him was "We are clear on who is at fault and we do not need to contact the police, right?" He stated, "Yes, I caused the damage". I said fine, I'll contact your manager tomorrow. I believe the problem arose once the amount of damage was provided to Rent-A-Center. The driver had immediately assumed responsibility, his manager provided information for faxing the estimate. Once the estimate was received then the driver's story changed. My insurance company is unable to do anything as it is his word against mine. As I chose to believe the driver's acknowledgement of responsibility and did not feel the need to contact the police at rush hour over this incident. Though I am certain there were witnesses, the damage appeared to be minor and only involved our two vehicles which did not impede traffic. A accident report has been filed this incident. I want my vehicle repaired, a Rent-A-Center employee was responsible and admitted such. Rent-A-Center's insurance is the responsible payee. Multiple calls were made to Rent-A-Center, not one phone call was returned to me. I'm uncertain as to how or why the employee was persuaded to change his story, I believe it has to do with the fact that an insurance claim must be filed. Had I called the police and waited, Rent-A-Center would have received a ticket for the expired insurance card, of which I have a picture.

Rent-A-Center laptop that didn't work

Don't even consider renting anything from this Rent-A-Center location! Their promise of 100% satisfaction or a full refund is a lie. I had to rent a laptop computer for two weeks while mine was in the shop. The first problem that I noticed as soon as I arrived home with the computer is that there was no Word, Excel or PowerPoint software installed on the computer. My reason for renting a computer was so that I could work at home while mine was being fixed. When I phoned the business to complain, they told me that I still had Internet access. The computer that they gave me worked for about four days out of the two week period after which it would not power on. I tried every trick I could think of to get it to work without success. I asked for a partial refund but was informed that they did not give refunds. They sent someone to my house to pick up the computer at the end of my rental period. This kid showed up at my door without any way to give me a receipt proving that I had returned the computer to him. In addition, he had no way of refunding my $375 deposit. I had to phone the store while he was still standing at my door, then trust that the refund of my deposit that was done over the phone was legitimate. These are a bunch of crooks.

Rent-A-Center poor customer service

I have perviously renting a washer opted using the 90days same as cash. I visited the store in DeSoto 10/3/15 because my dryer went out and I needed one quickly. I filled out my application while sitting there I noticed how the employees handled the customers so unprofessional. After paying my money, I was told that my dryer would be delivered on Monday afternoon. They called me Monday morning asking me to call my references and ask them to answer when they call. 1st NO ONE is going to sit around or pause their life to wait on a call, leave a message! So I did what was requested to do and called the store back and asked when will my dryer be here, I was giving a time 3:30 to 4:30pm. However, when 5 o'clock came around I called back to the store and I was told their still waiting to verify my references. So, I asked Daniel (whom seem slow and doesn't talk very clear) you mean to tell me by being a passed client, made all my payments on time and paid off my purchase within 90days doesn't have no kind of credibility? He said I could come pick up my money, if I have a problem. I could see if I was a new customer with no history with the company to question the intent. In a nut shell that store employees have very poor customer service skills and training. They need to do better.

Rent-A-Center not entirely complaining

I have just read horrible stories about horrible rentacenter employee's attacking customer's. It on believable the conduct and tactics they think will make people comply to their demands or are these rules and are they giving training at all areas in the bill collection process business. Or are they told to do whatever it takes to get either money or the goods. Has rentacenter given them personnel instruction that they are above the law? Cause reading these terrible run in with these guys need to be avoided as they are loose cannon. Some day this is going to happen to the wrong person and tragedy is waiting. If I was ceo I sure do something about my managers taking a more responses way to not all complainant the honest ones like bed bugs your stores are not equip for this to be cleaned, polish, to look nice for the customers. When I received my washer and dryer the dryer full of lint! It was used but come on really? Most of the stories are people not pairing their bill when it comes due, excuses are not forgiven and you need to pay or give it back. It doesn't belong to you! In my case i've been paying 2years I think and owe less then $300.00 and first time late they wanted to pick it up for two weeks until I get paid.in my case I own more value then they. Why would you pick it up and threatening me that the rules i'm told. Where customer service with a smile and helpful employees, where they did they go? I have seen the requirements to be employee. Anybody can do it and with no training provided! So I didn't like his rules I turn around and emailed support plus called, weird service but I should have a answer from both contacts in 24hrs. Well no one emailed or called. So 24hours I call back get a district manager who in turn granted the extension with no problem thank goodness cuz I was ready.in order to pickup your rental they need court ordered proof, otherwise the police don't and are not their for people owing each other money. They are not in the collection business. That takes court papers. I did warn my neighbour after reading the stories I might have trouble. The neighbourhood was ready! Bottom line i'm done with dealing paying rentacenter in two weeks. Will I go back no!

Rent-A-Center Sold my order to someone else

My special-needs sister needed a multi-disc cd player. Instead of going on-line I tried to support local businesses. I went to RaC, they didn’t have one in the store but they ordered one and call and leave a message when it came in. It was to be a cash transaction. When they didn’t call I called them. I was told it had just arrived. I told them I needed to go out of state for a medical appointment but would come in Saturday with the cash. When I arrived Saturday there was a line of people so I stood in line and waited. About 15-20 minutes later, while looking at the unit I ordered, I was told that I wasn’t mine. Apparently after it came in someone else wanted it, (they SAID they called me, didn’t leave a message), then sold the item out from under me. I fulfilled all of my obligations under our verbal contract. They did not. I do not believe they acted ethically.

I smell a class action suit... Don't just quit.. Hold Rent A Center accountable they are ripping off credit challenged minorities nationwide.. While some rich guys in Texas sit back and laugh at the ignorance.. 95 percent of the customers are black and Latino... Asians and Caucasians read the fine print upfront.. While the minority is mislead with a representative that looks just like them to suckers them into this slimy lease agreement.. Hoping you forget the 90 day cutoff and screw you with additional fees and inflated payoff... Then load up your debt liability reported on your credit.. 2.5 times the price and act like they are doing you a service... Be patient people save your money.. Don't fall victim

Rent-A-Center harassing and liars

This store has the rudest employees I have ever encountered in all my years of dealing with sales in retail. They tell you whatever you want to hear to get the contract signed then as soon as you sign all bets are off. We were told if we financed our 62 inch tv that we would get the 32 inch free that we were trying out, then after three months they started charging us for the 32 inch and said there was no notes on the account that stated it was part of a special. We also told them from the beginning that we would pay every two weeks on a Saturday and we were told that was completely fine that they worked all kinds of different payment arrangements and times. So we started getting knocks on our door after 7 days and each time I would say to a different sales person the arrangement we had. Still it would not stop, I called and spoke with a manager and he stated no where on the account was that arrangement made! I told him yes it was and after he discussed the entire account with me he then proceeded to say well your name isn't even on your fiancés account so I can't discuss it! UH HELLO YOU JUST VERY UNPROFESSIONALLY DISCUSSED EVERY ASPECT OF THE ACCOUNT WITH ME (BREAKING THE LAW) you only changed your tune when I told you I would call the police if your men kept coming to my door more then once a day pounding! They had been harassing me all day coming twice an hour! When this contract is paid off we will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH ANY RENT A CENTER AGAIN!

Rent-A-Center theft and threatening

I was renting two laptops from this store. Each time I made a payment they would stick the money in their pocket instead of to the account. Then when I got tired of messing with them and told them to come and pick them up, they showed up a day early and was caught peeping in my windows. There was also a worker there that told my son that if he would sleep with him he would say that the laptops were paid off. Do not rent from this store...they will rip you off and say that it is your fault.

Rent-A-Center bad acer computers (2)

I rented an acer previously owned for 1 yr. I brought it back in that evening it has shellcommon.DLL missing. They gave me another Acer previously owned for 1 yr I pd $130.00. This Acer gave me problems with Word Processor English Starter told me to go to Ctrl Panel hit repair I did took me 6 hours.Well Enlish starter didn't show but a word 2010 did.I used it it fought me every step.I was watching netflix turned it off.1 hour later I tried Netflix it said to reload Silverlight but it was installed before I got it. Then it locked up so I shut it down.I turned it back on and black screen demaning ethernet cable as I was plugging that in it then said it needed a boot disk.i should have brought the damn thing back yesterday with the English problem. This morning, missed them last night. They said I did somthing and that there was no hard drive.I was accused of going somewhere in the computer that i shouldn't have.I'm suppose to go back after 2 hours but they say I broke it.I told them did it occur to you these were returned because they were ^&$## up.They don't even have internet it there store so how would they no.They insist that it's me since i have gone thru 2 acers owned for 1 yr before i got them.I'm so pissed. This is out of my ctrl. They better give me a loner they said I would get the 1st 1 back after they sent it to the service center but this guy insists I did something to this.I will never own an Acer I just need a computer Temp.and my Toshiba got hacked cuz i bashed Obama on Facebook. Well let's see how they fix these.Lifetime of any laptop taken care of is aprox 2 yrs but if they are made or treated badly then I rest my case. Why would you pay for a yr on any computer at $130.00 and turn it back in unless there was a problem you could have owned two for that price, like I said if I had the money i would just go buy a computer not rent one.I'm treated horribly and accused and won't put up with this crap from anyone.all i can say is don't buy an Acer unless you baby the damn thing because my experience is 1 yr is all they are good for and they are not cheap.Rent a center better do what they claim or they will be in Arbitration and I will have my money or a computer back one way or the other.

Rent-A-Center stolen property

Rent A Center employee who delivered bed and mattress stole $1400 Movado watch and 3 Brighton Bracelets while in my bathroom. Filed Police Report, but without a security camera video, I had no proof or evidence. Rent A Center was only defensive and hostile when confronted. Be LEARY of these folks.

Rent-A-Center I was never more humiliated and ashamed for them

Went into rent a center with all good intentions to purchase a bedroom set, upon speaking to a sales person i was just asked to fill out a form and to pay 32.00 and they would let me know when a delivery date was available. I received a call the following day with a time and date of a delivery. I cleaned out my sons room and donated all his furniture to good will as i would no longer be needing it as i thought! The 3rd day into this agreement i realized a mattress and box-spring had to be ordered into the original contract, the gentleman name mike lst name unknown assuming there was only one mike that worked in the malden location said no problem he would add the mattress and box spring in draw up a new contract upon delivery on sat [protected].

On sat [protected] the same gentleman name mike call me and wanted to confirm delivery and said they were loading truck up and i was the one and only recipient that day. I asked mike if the mattress and boxspring were in the order making sure he dint forget when i spoke with him on wens [protected] he than reassured me that everything was taken care of and the mattress would be on the delivery truck along with bedroom set. The delivery was scheduled from 11-2 p.M and at one thirty i noticed the time and called rent a center to see if drivers were on their way, first of all mike said they had to call references. I asked mike why he would be calling at 130 for reff when he had a week to do so and his answers were very non proffesioal, very dishonest and disrespectful. He had an attitude and said they can call 15 mins before if they wish! Mind you i took a full day from work off not only to accommodate myself but also the times that were only available by rent a center! He couldnt get verification as he mentioned so therefore i called my relatives and friends who i gave as a reff and they said he never tryed to contact them, therefore i had them contact mike and the store manager as i was under a tremendous amount of stress not only from waiting all day but in a panic that my 9 year old son had no bedroom set to come home to sleep on.

The manager got on phone and was just as unprofessional as his worker mike. I than came to the store and wanted my money back after they said they dint want to deal with me…I dint want to deal with them after being explained that their store was under staffed and they cant help it if they cant do anything about the situation. I told manager i was going to contact corporate and he said to do whatever makes me happy. I have been a business owner for well over 15 years and would have never spoke to my clients the way they have not to mention the way they treat you! The manager was just as bad and arrogant as the worker mike. I don't know how long this place is gonna be open with the professional treatment they give their people. I was never more humiliated and ashamed for them.

Rent-A-Center they harrass to no end

My husband and I rented from rent a center. There was no problem at first but then work obligations called for him to relocate for 60 days (and yet this company offers online bill pay) I got hurt so I am out of work til mid sept. These people called (white lane store) and my husband told them he will be out of town, they had the nerves to tell him, they needed payment, , then they continue to call, so I decided to go online to pay it and get them off my nerves and couldnt even pay it. Instead of them, allowing payment, they didnt, I ignore their calls. But now since reading these complaints, I welcome them to call and I will answer. I am not home either so.. what are they going to do? Break in my house? Well, my husband works for Law enforcement, so they can break in if they want... We will sue them and file charges for breaking and entering. I will never do business with them again, and they better never call me or email me again, if they want their stuff, they can come pick me up, bring me home, to get their stuff and then bring me back. Whenver I find a complaint site, I wll be writing complaints

first you say you now welcome their calls now, then you say they better not call you. make up your mind! second, if your husband really was in law enforcement, he would not be stealing. third, if you tried to pay online and couldn't it was because you were not trying to pay the amount you owed. fourth, if you could pay online with your credit card, why didn't you or your husband pay by phone with the same card the first time you got called and avoid all this "harassment". fifth, cut the crap, stop stealing and either pay what you owe or give them their stuff. sixth, grow up and stop looking for a hand out or to take something from hard working people instead of paying for it..

I may be wrong, but I don't think they can file criminal charges for nonpayment. It should go under a breach of contract, which is not criminal. If you intended to never pay, and they could prove that then that would be theft of leased goods. If you have been making your payment, but for what ever reason quit making payments, then that would...Should be a breach of contract. It would be like buying a house, and quit making payments. You don't go to jail for that, they just evict you, take the house back, and ruin you credit. Something similar should happen with a rent a center contract as well. Take that with a grain of salt, because if you still have what ever item was rented, and you never make another payment then at that point it would be theft. I would assume that a payment every once in a blue moon would keep you from legal trouble charges, but ultimately the right thing to do would be to pay what you owe. As a customer you walked into their store, requested their services, and signed a contract to make payments for an item that you needed. This is just my 2cents on the topic, I am no lawyer, and I don't play one in the movies.

Hi Karen – I work at RAC and I’m sorry to hear about what’s happening. We currently offer three ways to make payments: in-store, over the phone, and online via ePay, but you will need to make sure your local store has the correct email address on file before you can begin using ePay. Also, as part of our Worry-Free Guarantee you can always return the item you're renting for any reason and simply freeze your payments - then if you want to restart later, you can pick up right where you left off so you don't lose the money you already paid in. Neglecting to make payments on your items from Rent-A-Center without notifying the company and returning them is considered stealing and can lead to theft charges. If you need more information or assistance in this matter, please call our Customer Care line at [protected], they’re there to help. Thanks.

Grow up, you owe them money and whatever you rented, pay your bills and stop making excuses. Do you think because you husband is in law enforcement you can do what you want? I bet you would find a way to return what you rented if you were getting money back for a deposit.

Rent-A-Center customer service

I went into this location on 5-July-2012 to inquire about options to purchase a bed for my grandparents. My grandparents have been sleeping in the same bed for well over 30 years and I felt it was time for a change. I entered the store to be approached by representative Jason or Justin a white male and he looked like he had dipping tobacco in his mouth very unprofessional. He was very understanding and he listened to my concerns and every question I asked he answered it. He explained to me how it works with a cash purchase and told me it would be a lot cheaper and I was all for it because I do not do payment plans. He advised me the total purchase for the bed would be 380.00 (CASH) this included the bed and mattresses now in the real world the bed includes frame, head, and foot board. In this case this bed did not include a foot board that was fine to me my grandmother is very sick she is on dialysis due to kidney failure, cancer survivor, and she legally blind. My grandfather is diabetic with his own list of health issues. I only wanted a better bed for them to sleep on. The representative told me the bed would be delivered the next day but he did not tell me the bed did not include a headboard. To my surprise because I NEVER knew a headboard was not included. I contacted rent a center to speak to John Prichard the store manager of store#460. He was extremely rude and unfriendly. He told me that a headboard goes with the dresser and nightstand hmmm very weird I just purchased a bed for my daughter and it came with a headboard and foot board and I purchased a mattress. WOW is that weird or what. I did not go into this store asking for payment plan and there is nothing wrong with a payment plan but my circumstances are different. I was able to purchase with no payment plan. Mr. Prichard was undetermined to help me and he hung the phone up in my face to make it worse. I called back and his reply was I thought you were finished talking. I told him I need corporate information and I will get a lawyer if I need one. He is suppose to be a business man and taking care of the customer should have been his first priority and that was not his priority. He does not care about his customers and he should be fired. His attitude is the reason I am filing a formal compliant.

Rent-A-Center not living up to guarrantee and running with the goods.

On or about the end of May 2012 Rent-A-Center in Downtown Kamloops Bc shutdown with a months notice. There Guarrantee TM states you can return merchandise and continue payments at any time when you want and recieve items back. Due to there closure here they are bullying people to buy out the items or continue making payments to a Calgary office. If you return the items you lose all money invested and connot get them back and continue. They let people sign new contracts up till the month before they were shutting down. Myself and others are now being harrassed to return items yet if we do so we lose all money with no compensation and they walk with the money and items.
There Guarrantee TM states to continue at any time, loner items if repairs are needed and in home service and care. They are just trying to take the money, items and run. I feel a lot of people are getting scamed through there shutting down. I was wondering if others that I don't know about are going through this sham also. Please post your story about them.
