I tried to deposit a bank draft that I bought at the Bank of Montreal in U.S. funds. The draft was drawn on the JP Morgan/Chase bank in Colorado. The bank told me it would take 11 days to clear. A few days later they told me it had to go to Houston . About 2 weeks after I deposited the draft I got it back in my mail box, when I called the bank to find out what was going on they said " they were checking on it". I told them not to bother as I was holding it in my hand. They seemed perplexed that I now had the draft and would call me back to tell me what I should do. Later they called and told me that because it was over a certain amount it would take 6-8 weeks to clear. I told them the next time I travel from Canada to Arizona I'll just bring a big bag of money instead of the security of a bank draft paid for in cash. On top of this they wanted 100.00 plus another 100.00 payable to Bank of America { I guess they farm out this kind of work}. Went to a different bank and the draft was cleared in 7 days . I did call the customer complaint line but the lady I spoke with could only give me the number to a different branch manager ,it's been 2 weeks now and they never bothered to call back. As soon as my outstanding checks clear I'll be closing that account. I only hope the Spainiards know what they bought LOL.
