I did not purchase anything

Poor costumer service

On was at the Sears in NHP, NY on 10/21/09 to purchase an air mattress. The sign above the merchandise had said one price, but it rang up a much higher cost, thus at which time I decided against the purchase and went with a less expensive air mattress. However, when I told the cashier that I chose not to purchase the one he rang up, he was adamant about proceeding with the sale before he can void it out. I was very wary about doing so, but gave in, at which point the sale went on my credit card then was voided out. After much arguing, he gave me a receipt (he did not want to give me either, but I knew better). For some reason, the "voided" sale is still on my credit card showing as pending authorizations. The total has been deducted from my available balance and has not been removed to date. I called the Sears in NHP, NY and they said there was nothing that they can do. I’m so upset... since this was the cashier’s error int the first place. What right do you have to go thru with the sale when I didn't actually purchase the item? Basically you are holding my available funds for something I never purchased! I was told that the transaction reverse will take up to 7-10 days!!! huh? For something I never purchased? It’s not like I took it home and then returned it, I never bought it!!! Now I have no funds left on my credit card, of which was the only thing I had, in the difficult economical times, to purchase the necessities we needed at home. However, Sears is keeping this captive for some reason and no one at the store or in your corporate office was even willing to assist or except responsibility for this error that the cashier made! I was told by the bank of the credit card, that if Sears called them with the CC authorization number (which is seen on the receipt I am holding) then they can call the bank and verbally tell them to remove the authorization allowing them to return the available funds back to my CC. However, no one is willing to do this from your organization.
I find it puzzling, that you would process a sale, when there is no actual sale, only to hold the authorization you requested for up to 10 days!!! It’s an outrage and there is no where that I have shopped that has done this to me. In addtion, your staff definately needs more training on how to operate the stores, the managers defiantely need more work on customer service, and your corporate office... well let me put it this way, one put the phone down and walked away... that says about everything right there.

Needless to say, not only will I NEVER, EVER buy anything at Sears again, I have been spreading the word through channels to get this message out. Words travel fast these days, and in these economical times, you can't aford to loose any sale. I would not be surprised that if this is how your store works, you will be bankrupt in no time.
Good luck!
