PointShop.co.uk review: Scam 52

About a month ago i signed up on this site for a 1 day £1.00 VIP membership using my wifes card as my bank hasnt sent me a new one. This site did not mention any other charges or monthly fees. Then suddenly on Wednesday 31st August 2011 pointshop.co.uk took £45 from my wifes card which came out of her child tax credit which we urgently need for our baby. Today i then tried to access my account to cancel the account but they failed to send me a password reminder email which i requested so i cant access the account to cancel it. I also cant phone there phonenumber as its barred from mine and my wifes phone, could someone help me claim the money back and also cancel the account ?

I subscribed with Pointshop to receive the free Angry Birds Toy promotion. Unfortunately, they required me to verify my address before I could send off for the toy. I did so but never received any letter etc through the post. I believe that this is a delay tactic to make people forget they have signed up so they are automatically charged the renewal fee of... wait for it... £45! £45 per month for nothing! Anyway, being a bit more smart minded than that, I cancelled withing the 14 days only to be charged the £45 today! This was my Christmas living money until the 30th! I logged on and to my shock horror, they had not deactvated my VIP membership. I have now repeated this action but am terrified they will take another £45 next month so will cancel my card after all my bills are paid next month. Have read numerous complaints about this company taking £45 for nothing, total rip off and scam. I wonder how many people have signed up to this and do not realise they are baing charged? I am now in the position of having no money over Xmas unless they refund me straight away!

my advice is stop the card (through your bank) tell them you have lost it, to save blushes, you are not getting any money back, but take it to the office of fair trading .They are a scam company!

My son has just had £45 taken out of his account. We rang customer services and spoke to the most unhelpful customer services person I have ever dealt with. She said that my son had a memory stick from them back in December (duh, 6 months ago?) and this is now the membership charge. My son never had a memory stick from them and I'm challenging them to provide proof of postage. And why take 6 months to take a membership fee - so you forget about them? She also went on to say more or less, you people make me sick, you want something for nothing, then expect not to have to pay! Again, duh - contradiction of terms comes to mind! She was so rude, and I can see my son (who is disabled and unemployed) will be struggling to get this much needed money back, but I will fight it all the way with him. These disgusting ### should be stopped.

I have also been scammed by these guys.
I have had a lot of transactions online and on cc recently and failed to spot this rogue one. £45 a month for about a year! (stupid me for not being more careful with statements). I have queried with LloydsTSB and they are sending a dispute form. I have managed to get into the pointshop account and it shows me as logging in once (I have no recollection), and purchasing a toothbrush. I have certainly never purchased a toothbrush from them, even for £1. I have an electric toothbrush and have no requirement for a new one!
I will be pursuing refunds vigorously via my bank. If you see this payment on your account, I encourage you to contact your bank immediately and dispute it. Complete scam!

This company also find your email address and bank account details and start charging? I had signed up long ago and struggled to get my money back, now they have reinstated the membership without me knowing and started taking £45.00 out of my account for 4 months. There has to be something we can do?

I tried logging in, website would not send me my password.

I came across this website, and stopped my debit card. I advise anyone in a similar situation (trying to cancel their free trial) to do the same.

Clearly, judging by the other comments, this company are ###.

The same thing happened to me! I paid online for £1 electric toothbrush but then decided against it and cancelled the transaction. Without my knowledge the point pay have in spite of me cancelling the transaction been taking £45 out of my account every month! I only realised recently because I applied for online banking and can now see all the transactions that are going in and outside of my card. I am so angry! God knows how much money they have stolen from me I'm so mad. Luckily I managed to cancel their 'VIP subscription' by getting onto their website, figuring out which of their point websites were scamming me (PointShop), I went on the option that I had forgotten my password to see if I was even registered on there. If I wasn't they would probably say on the website that an account with that email address doesn't exist. It did exist. I figured out my password and then manage to unsubscribe and delete the account so they definitely can't get my money now. So ha to them! I'm still annoyed that they stole my money but at least they can't steal anymore!

I have also been taken by this company but I do not remember giving any details to them. I am in the process of reclaiming this through the Mastercard account which they managed to acquire the detail of. I would not have given any company my details unless I was buying something. When I phoned them they told me it was an electric toothbrush I bought for £1.00 then they took £45 each month which I had failed to notice. Thankfully I believe I am covered through the bank. Absolute nightmare. Stay away from this company.

We were also scammed by PointShop. Paying £1 by Visa for a offer for a Braun electric tothbrush this bogus company used my details to take £390 from my bank account over several months. They flatly refuse to give a refund as they say that when buying the toothbrush I became a VIP Member of PointShop at a staggering cost of £45 per month apart from buying the damn toothbrushn. I didn't agree to anything. This compay needs investigating for fraud.

Further to earlier comment:Went to my bank(LTSB) today and their" fraud squad" is refunding the £45 but may want it back if I can't provide documentary evidence.Like a naive fool, I deleted all record of my dealings with them, and as I don't have a printer or other back-up gismos I may be on a sticky wicket as they said that as far as they know this is a law-abiding, honest company.I'll give them a few days, then contact the Danish authority.Could get the b...ds under Danish Consumer Protection Law

I recieved an e-mail about a £1 toothbrush, something i never recieved, they have since taken £45 out twice which has made me go overdrawn and thus, getting bank charged! When i tried contacting them (on a premium rate number!) i was on hold for 20 minutes and then the line went dead. I have e-mailed rip off Britain and This Morning warning others about this scam and i suggest everyone else does the same as the more people who complain about this the more likely we are to get our money back and end the scam.

I have been took for £45 and £29.97 by pointshop all i did was fill in a servey and asked for a 10p and a £1 for doing this servey and this is what it as cost me.I have been into the bank to get a stop put on it and as soon i had put in the money to cover the overdrawn i was at the bank they took that as well.all i get from the bank was the trancation was done before i put the block on so there is nothing they can do.I think its a froud to do this but when i told the banks froud dipartment they say it is ligitamate bisnness so its not froud then what is it when they take money without your consent. so does that meen that anybody can take moey out of your account when you pay somthing over the counter.hope this will help others who are in the situation as me.

POINTSHOP UK ARE A TOTAL SCAM COMPANY! They just done the same to me! I didn't even go ahead with the toothbrush order, and really thought I had cancelled the whole thing! Then out of the blue £ 45 just gets taken out of my account! I am disabled and went into hospital 3 days after I thought I had cancelled the account! Having told them all this, what do they do CALL ME A LIAR! Then say no refunds! Not even when you tell the truth! They have no hearts and don't care how they ROB PEOPLE! Because for all intent and purposes I FEEL AS IF I'VE BEEN MUGGED! They are no different than THIEVES! SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS COMPANY!

Hi again, great news my bank - Santander have refunded me 3 lots of £45 that pointshop ripped me off. Don't give up trying with the bank - get transferred to the disputes department and raise a case. This is fraud, so your bank has to act on it. They need to shut this company down. I never got the toothbrush! It was a total con.
Good luck!

I have the same problem as the post above, I am in contact with pointshop every day & they always say the same thing, that I signed up to it. I don't think so! Money came out of my account on the 28 April, should I still phone the bank or have I left it too late?

I have just discovered that Pointshop have taken £136 from my account and I have received nothing in exchange. I'm furious. The bank has changed my card and I phoned Denmark to try and get my money back but have had no joy. I email them every day pleading for a compromise out of good will but they say I signed up to their service - I thought I was getting a toothbrush! I'm going to see if Santander are as sympathetic as Natwest. The bit I don't understand is that I did give my card details in order to receive the toothbrush...they say I ticked the box signing up to their terms and conditions, which apparently stated that £45 was going to be taken from my account so am not sure what to say to the bank...Has anyone else had a refund from Santander?

I have also been ripped off by this company. I cancelled the very same day I joined and a month later they took £45 out of my account. Tried contacting them online several times but have received no reply. I am now going through the dispute process with my bank to get the money back, my bank is now going to keep a check on my account so they cannot take any more money off me. This company is despicable and should be made shut down.

yes the same bank as the previous post, nat west refunded the full amount £135 with very little hassle just standard criteria. possibly they are wise to this type of fraud now anyway the way to go is with the bank and let them deal with the fraudsters
