Planet Fitness cancellation didnt take place and we were sent to collections

We went directly to Planet Fitness last year (2008) to cancel our membership and the cancellation paperwork was filled out and then mailed out by a Planet Fitness employee. As of May 2009 ABC Financial had placed us in collections for $394 for charges they say we owed for not canceling our account. This is absolutely untrue. I placed a call to ABC Financial which after calling I found out that they are a very tiny collection agency that is manned by two of the rudest representatives that I have EVER dealt with by the names of Ginger (who claims she is the manager) and Maria (the rudest rep. ever!). After advising Maria of the error on our credit report she advised me that she will not remove it from our credit report and that we have 30 days to pay for their mistake. I then told her I wanted her manager and she immediately hung the phone up on me! I called back and was greeted by Ginger who I then advised that I was hung up on by Maria and this smug woman advised me in return that she TOLD Maria to hang up on me! Unbelievable! So, needless to say, I was furious at this point and requested her supervisor or manager and she told me that there was noone else above her and she hung up on me as well. I furiously called her back and demanded the name of the president and the address for her company and she outright refused that information and then lied and said SHE was the president of that company. When I told her off about being so rude to me she then advised me that she is not in customer service and that they are a collection agency and proceeded to hang up on me again. I'd advise anyone who has a membership at Planet Fitness to make sure you not only keep a copy of your cancellation notice you send, but to also just go ahead and cancel altogether because eventually you WILL be dealing with these worthless losers. Also, anyone who is even THINKING of going to Planet Fitness, turn around as quick as you can and find a more suitable and more worthy gym to spend your money at. I am taking this situation completely to the top.

Because Planet Fitness is such a deceitful and devious company, they make it very difficult to contact the corporate office to resolve customer issues. You are left dealing with a child at the front desk that states they can do nothing. Once they have your credit card number or checking account, they ‘freely’ take your money by creating charges that you are unaware of. First, make sure that you send any and all letters to PF certified mail. That will provide the proof you need in court to show that you cancelled your membership or contacted them. Second, close your checking or credit card so these shysters can no longer get at your money.

When the debt collection calls begin, you should consider suing for violations of the Fair Debt Collections Practice Act (FDCPA - Title 15 U.S.C. §§ 1692-1692p). Look specifically at sections 807 and 808 among others. Civil damages for violations are $1, 000 per violation. Also look into violations of your states debt collection laws. Keep a copy of all correspondence and phone calls. It is very easy to show that Planet Fitness regularly violates debt collection laws. In your motion be sure to ask for court costs, reasonable attorneys’ fees as well as any punitive damages the law will allow.

Additionally you may want to sue for breach of contract. As is evident by the numerous other complaints against PF online, they will ‘fabricate’ rules infractions that supposedly you committed. Make sure that you document any such claims with dates and times as well as witness names, contact information and statements so that you can clearly refute their fabrications. PF clearly wants to avoid any responsibility they may have under your membership contract by swiftly cancelling your membership and ‘claiming’ you broke the rules.

I have contacted an attorney and fully intend to prosecute this to the fullest extent of the law. PF needs a good thrashing in court! Good luck getting anywhere with these thugs outside of the courtroom!

Planet Fitness asked to leave

I was a member of the club and one day the manager approached me and told me I was no longer allowed in the club and my membership was cancelled. I asked him why and all I was told was that I had improper activities, What the heck is that. Nate told me that he didn;t have to give me any reason why I was no longer allowed in the gym and it was his decision so he could tell me nothing else.

I feel if you are asked to leave a gym you should be given a valid reason. I feel this gym is discriminative against me due to the fact that I am "a meat head" in there eyes. I am a big guy 260 and lift more then anyone else in the gym. they have pictures of animated guys like "me" in the locker room with a red slash through them.

What kind of a gym that is supposed to promote health and wellness has a free pizza night and is a JUDGEMENT FREE ZONE. I think the judgement free part is the fresh flowers in the ladies locker room every day that is one of there "perks" alopng with the bagel tuesday.

Let's get real a gym is a gym and can;t we all just get along and workout and support each other.

I am personal trainer and I feel the gym was also intimidated by people asking me questions due to the fact that there staff is not as knowledgeable at all in the fitness industry. You cannot help your members if you are not motivated and able to be informative of there health and wellness.

Thanks and let's hope this can be explained to me

Tony

Planet Fitness - billing practices

I originally signed up for the $10 per mont no contract membership for myself and my granddaugter in December. In the end of January, my granddaughter left the state for work and I was diagnosed with a foot injury that required surgery. I notified Planet Fitness that I needed to cancel both memberships. They continued charging my credit card for 2 month...

Planet Fitness continues charging my account

So I have been a memember of Planet Fitness for over a year now, during my year I was abroad for 4 months (they would not let me hold my account) and then came back and finished my year. As soon as my year was up I decided to cancel my membership because I didn't enjoy the Planet Fitness gym. I went into the office and signed my papers and paid my upstanding balance. Normally I have the money taken directly out of my account however, my experation date expired and they said they couldn't use that card anymore so I gave them a new one to use that one time only. The following month I recieved a pink letter saying I owed planet fitness money however, they also continued to charge my account...I assume they guess my new experation date considering I never gave it to them and they continue to send me bills. I have tried to reach the general manager because when I went into Planet Fitness to take care of it the man at the desk gave me such a hard time and told me I was wrong...poor customer service I'd say...The manager took over 2 weeks to get in touch with me and she left me a message ignoring the entire reason I called I called her back ten min. later and have no recieved a call from her yet and it has been 5 days. I am sick of Planet Fitness, will never return and will tell everyone I know!

Planet fitness keeps charging me twice a month and I had to stay on them for months before they fixed it. Also they are very rude. Now they are suddenly charging me again after 4 months of not charging me.

Planet Fitness annual fee charge

I pay a monthly fee of $19.99 on the 17th of every month under my agreement with Planet Fitness, taken out of my bank account automatically. They in return charged my bank account on June 1st for $39.00 that I did not know about. They call this their "Annual Fee". My bank account was over-drafted over $50.00 because of this, ($39.00 & an overdraft fee) I didn't know what this "ACH" fee was until I called my bank. Planet Fitness is the only place I have an automated payment taken out from my bank account too so they automatically took the money out and did not send me a notice. I remember that when my boyfriend and I signed up we went to the gym before it had even opened and they were running this "FANTASTIC DEAL" for a 1 yr black card membership. They were waiving the initiation fee and the first yr annual fee. My contract does say that I will be charged the $39.00 annual fee on June 1, 2009. To me this meant for the next year to lock in the same price. I mean seriously who really would think that they were gonna pay a $39.00 fee for something they have already paid for? Certainly not anyone I know.

I called the Planet Fitness I got my membership from and started asking questions. I tried to be as nice as possible because it's not the person's fault I was talking to & I kept apologizing because I was getting a little mad. They understood, even though I didn't get far. As soon as they answered I said I had a question and they said is is about the $39.00 fee. Hmm, how did they guess? BECAUSE EVERYONE'S PISSED OFF! Finally this kid put his boss on the phone because I told him I wasn't taking no for an answer of me getting reimbursed my money.

The thing that kills me is that I signed up for the gym June 23, 2008 for a 1 yr contract which means my contract is up on June 23, 2009. Why would I want to "lock in" as they say a $19.99 a monthly fee/rate if I am not going to have it after 23 days? And they won't reimburse me? I never even went to the gym either, only 1 time. NO LIE! LOL I didn't cancel because I can't afford the cancellation fee that you have to pay all at one time. They said if I wanted the fee to be waived I had to cancel my membership in writing by the 25th of the previous month (being May). Again, if I would have done this I would have had to pay the cancellation fee and I only had 1 month left. That would have made no sense even if I did get a notice about the fee. They should take into consideration when peoples' memberships are up. They sure know when to take your money!

With that said, the manager got on the phone and I was a little more mad, again thanking her for listening to me complain and apologizing. I explained everything above to her and she said that the company does not send notices about this. I asked her why and she said it is hard & takes too much time for them to figure out who is a black card member to who is a regular member. Ok, that doesn't make sense because you are charging the black card members this $39.00 fee so you would have to know who they are, right? I said it was not her responsibility as an employee to do this "paperwork" for their corporate office. I said if they want to run a business then should get it together. I work in business, I know! She then told me that the Planet Fitness gyms around this area (York, PA I guess) are franchised so there are different owners. Again...HMMMM, wouldn't that make it easier for them to tell the difference in their members? I also asked her why they don't explain completely about this fee when you sign up & she said it should have been told to us. Why would I need to look up membership info on the internet if I should have been told everything? She ended with telling me that all I can do is WRITE (YES I SAID WRITE) to their corporate office explaining all of this and they will send it on to the person that owns that Planet Fitness. I went to the website to find no address and no phone number, NOTHING! This is 2009 not 1999, why should I have to write to someone about this. I should be able to email or call or something!

I would honestly take it as a loss and pay the over draft fee and annual fee if my membership wasn't up in DAYS! I mean, I have been paying for a membership that I have not used for 12 months now so what is $50.00 more? (I'm being sarcastic).

Now that I think of it...as a black card member I am allowed to use any Planet Fitness there is so how are they gonna know who I am if they are owned by different people? See, that sounds silly and so does many of the answers I got! I AM NOT PLEASED!

Thanks for listening. Let me know if this happened to you.

I think someone should do a class action lawsuit. Planet Fitness claims $1 to join Planet Fitness, then after you join you see a $39.00 annual fee on top of the $10 a month charge. So whats the $1 they advertise to join Planet Fitness. That is misleading and false. The $39 annual fee is the real cost to join Planet Fitness...not $1 as advertised.

FEES +FEES +FEES. It totally depends on who you talk to from PF, and which location. you can call 3 different PF's and get 3 different answers. And if you join online there are different package options then what is offered in store. ALSO I was told there is no "commitment/contracts" HOWEVER if you decide in less than 12 months from date you joined that you do not want to use the gym any longer they charge you ANOTHER $50ish dollars to let you out of the "no commitment/contract".

My Planet Fitness monthly fee is $21.35, and the annual fee is $50...if only I had a $39 annual fee 🤣🤣🤣 READING ALL OF THE FINE PRINT IS ESSENTIAL...and listening too. By law, they have to tell you what you're going to be paying for, how much, when the payments will be debited/charged to your credit card, about any/all fees. Don't be so gung ho about something that you don't vet EVERYTHING. Lesson learned, I hope. Namaste

Take it as a lesson learned in actually reading what you sign. Gym contracts are not complicated...wait til you buy a house or a car. Also, just an idea...but if 50 dollars overdrafts your account, you may want to forgo unnecessary expenses. Go take a jog outside.

I had a similar experience:

1) I was told that I had to wait until the one-year expiration date to cancel
2) I did this
3) I was charged an "annual fee", which no one had warned me about beforehand, for the following year

So what is the point here?

My plan all along was to cancel my membership as soon as I was out of the one-year contract. However, because I didn't want to break the rules by canceling my membership prematurely, I waited until the year was over.

And what was the result?

I was charged an "annual fee" then cancelled my membership the very next day. NOTE: I cancelled this membership THE DAY AFTER I was charged the fee (ie, as soon as I saw it in my bank account). So, in my mind, this $42 annual fee should be divided by 365, since I really only have one more day that I can use the facilities before cancelling my account. If I had cancelled it earler and been hit with the "premature withdrawal" fee, this could have been prevented.

DO THE MATH - $42 / 365 = 12 cents per day

So I'm being charge $42 for being one day late (instead of being charged 12 cents)

In the end, it's all about how much money you want unfairly taken from you. Cancel early, and they hit you with a fee. Wait to cancel until the year is up, and they hit you with a bigger fee (the so-called "annual fee"). So much for honestly trusting a company like this to be fair...

I was happy with Planet Fitness, but until they get this figured out so that people are no longer ripped off because of a non-refundable "annual fee" that they are never informed of, customers will continue to have money unfairly taken from them.

But hey, it's probably all my fault. I did what 99% of society does - I breezed through the 30 pages of legal jargon instead of hiring a lawyer to explain it to me. Apparently that means I deserve to be ripped off...

Planet Fitness in McMinnville, Oregon is of the same breed as all of them. We needed to cancel our membership do to an increase in our physical problems at the age of 78 and were told that the annual fee of $38.00 each, was non refundable because we failed to remember that it came do just 3 days prior to our date of cancellation. We were never notified in advance of the due date, they just debited our checking account VERY POOR BUSINESS

People are like "Why don't they explain this in person" Why should they have to? It is in your agreement. Act like an adult and read the stuff you sign. It is quite basic. It is not their job to babysit you through decisions.

Aug 2021... I just signed up and they didn't have paper copies available to read, "just sign the digital thingy and we will email the contract." Well knowing I can cancel within 3 days, I signed, got the contract and it wasn't what I was told (and explaining in person isn't binding anyway). So called and he said that was general contract but my account on the computer shows otherwise. I asked if I could get a print out of my actual contract then and he said no, but the screen says it. WHAT? So I am stuck with an incorrect terms signed paper contract and just trust that they will go by the on screen details? Nope, guess I'm going in tomorrow and cancelling since they can't seem to give me a paper copy of actual terms.

Planet Fitness contract agreement/ rude manager

I Ms. Erica) sign up June 1, 2008 last year. I went into planet fitness to speak to the manager Mr. Guthrie. he was very unprofessional in his line of work. He didn't try to assist me in any way. I went to closed out my membership since my one year was up. He instructed that I had a balance of $ 68.00 dollars. He said it was for the annual fees of the membership. When i signed up last year i paid 53.00 to the sale clerk instructed that the money I was paying was the one time annual fee. I very pissed off and dissatified a customer who always paid the bill on time. except for May I owe a balance of $19.00 plus $10.00. i"m disputing the $39.00 for the annual fee that I thought I already paid. That planet fitness has poor customer service with unexperience staff. They mislead me into my contract. Please someone look into this situation its URGENT!

Planet Fitness ridiculous charges!!

On 12/30/2009 my husband and I became black card members which we thought would be great, as time went out we realized we could no longer take time to go. On 05/27/2009 we went to there to cancel our memberships. Since we canceled before the year we had to pay a buy out fee (which we were aware of), we wrote a check out for $116.00 total for both cancellations, in which time we thought okay thats it we are done. NOPPPEE we were wrong, on the 06-01-2009 they charged $78.00 to our account! WTH? So i called them immediately they stated that the charge is the annual renewal fee, didnt i just cancel the membership? She stated that because we didnt cancel by the 25th of May (2 days earlier) they charged the renewal fee! i think this is b.s because i just gave them $116 for a cancellation and they charged a renewal! I would not recommened anyone to go there because they are rip offs!

Planet Fitness membership renewal fee

I had tried to call and cancel my membership in April, but was told that I could not cancel it until May 18th. I went to cancel the membership on May 31st. I had to go "in person" to cancel. This is why it took me to May 31st to cancel - as I have a very hectic schedule at work and travel. When I signed the form to cancel the woman at the counter told me that I missed the deadline and that I would be billed $39.99 for next year's renewal fee. She said she didn't have the ability to waive the fee and offered the option to call the store manager on June 1st (Monday). I just got off the phone with the manager who told me that I need to read my contract because it states that I needed to cancel by May 25 in order to avoid being billed. I told him of course I thought any sane person with an ounce of integrity would waive that fee because it is wrong. He offered to have the district manager call me. He would not give me her number - but would relay the message to her. Nice customer service there. While I have no complaints about the gym itself. I do feel that these are very shady business tactics. Who keeps their gym contract on hand to refer to. And if I had been allowed to cancel over the phone this whole issue could have been avoided. The whole thing is ridiculous. I would advise you all to keep in mind what happened to me when your contract end date comes close so you can avoid the hasssle and loosing money for nothing.

Planet Fitness dirty tanning beds

I just joined planet fitness as a blackcard member which sounds like a great deal. You get tanning, gym, 1/2 off drinks and free guest uses. However they fail to mention how dirty they are. You would think that the tanning beds would be clean. Not even close! I went in the bed there was grease and hair on the walls and a foot print on the floor. Mind you that this is somewhere you go in naked and greasey from tanning lotion and you can get mrsa, crabs, scavies, swine flu etc. When I asked for the maneger I got attitude and was told I would have to wait. Then I got some dirty looking scummy guy who is rude and tells me I should know I have to clean them myself even though I was never told and there are no notices anywhere in the place that state the beds need to be cleaned by the customers

Wiping down your own tanning bed afterwards and before is something I would do yeah. But it is up to the managers to keep them clean. No finely run gym will leave it up to the clients to clean the beds. They are disgusting and so it this gym! Gross!

I kind of agree with what your saying about it being dirty.. but also, if you know that you need to clean the machines after you use them, wouldnt you think you'd have to clean after yourself in the tanning beds? yeah exactly.

Planet Fitness expired credit card

My credit card expired in January, and Planet Fitness never notified me. They immediately started withdrawing the $10 fee. I continued to go workout unawares and unnotified. Without me submitting my new expiration date, they were still able to get my (and my husbands) monthly membership fee as well as the $10 for each account. It is now May, and they have stolen over $80 from my account. Trying to get this settled, the employees were very rude and unhelpful. We are both canceling our memberships, and would encourage everyone else to do the same.

I've been trying to cancel my membership with them for almost a year now sending two certified letters as required but they STILL charged my account so I had my credit union cancel my VISA. I JUST received a letter from them saying I owe them $100.00 in service fees ($10.00 per month of them trying to charge the canceled card). I called them and the manager told me he would settle my "DEBT" for $60.00. WHAT A RIPOFF!

Chicopee Planet Fitness.
Same thing happenend to my wife and I.
When we went in, they indicated that the credit card had
expired, they knew the date, but went ahead and attempted
to charge it anyway. They indicated it was our fault, so we had to pay the $10 charge. When asked why they hadn't notified us,
they indicated that they admitted that they did know the expiration date but it would have been just too much work to notify us about this. He indicated that they have over Nthousand members. I asked whether this had happened before? He indicated this is one of the reasons why they are moving away from Debit cards, and using a checking accounts instead. Beware, all, I would recommend not giving them your checking account information. They would not rescind the $10 fee, and said they require a certified letter to tell them that we choose to terminate our membership. I am glad that we can, as of last May. I'll not pay them another dime beyond the final amount I now owe them.
It seems that they have too many members to manage. One wonders why they don't get some automation to help them manage debit card expirations. They may have a business model that simply weens their membership down with the simple passage of time as their debit cards expire. I'll be sure to tell two friends (or more) and hope that they tell two friends, and so on.

I just had the same thing happen to me. I checked my checking account and saw a $29.99 withdraw from my checking account. I called Planet Fitness about this and was told it was because my card had expired and they were not able to get the $19.99 out of my account. It's a little strange that they could not get $19.99 out of my account but was able to get $29.99 out of it! I have reported them to the BBB!

Planet Fitness awful place

I will start out by saying if anyone had any thoughts about joining this gym...change ur mind now. Dont let the 10 dollar membership nonsense fool you. yes this gym does have different deals where you can join for very cheap but you're much better off paying a bit more money so you can deal with people who actually care every time you want to work out. this leads me to my next point...THE STAFF. they are beyond rude. i was amazed at how employees could get away with treating their customers the way they do. there was one incident where i went and asked an employee wen a better time to come was because the place was packed beyond belief. the fat meathead of an employee replied "HA" and that was it. the way these people handle their customers is very poor and in fact outrageous. also, the small gym is always packed... while i realize that most gyms are crowded during the rush hours...this is simply out of control! really its a fire hazard. if ur thinking of going during rush hours be prepared to wait in a long line to use anything. even wen it is not the rush hours it is still packed and none of the cardio machines are ever available. so what was supposed to be a quick hour and a half workout turns into a 3 hour ordeal. this place is ###. there is so much time spent doing nothing there because of its size and capacity there is always a line. so when you're working out be prepared to have half the gym staring at you while u work out because theyre waiting in line and have nothing better to do. their area for abs and things such as yoga is about the size of a big bathroom. no joke. another thing about the gym that i dont understand is they do this thing like once a week where they order a bunch of pizza there? ok yea i mean that makes perfect sense because i love to smell greasy pizza while working out haha u kidding me? they also have toasters and bagels for in the morning so when i work out the smell of the toast and bagels and stuff definitely motivates me hahah give me a break. dont even get me started on the "lunk alarm"! again this place is ###.

I go to the Cincinnati Planet Fitness locations and not sure where the negativity is coming from. Great price, nice people, great machines, clean new locker rooms, great tanning, massage chairs. Chill out America. Maybe in different cities some bad employees get hired but from what I have seen in Cincinnati is top notch...also an A rating from BBB backs that up.

Planet Fitness employee should be fired!!!

I was in Planet Fitness's White pLains location on 5-9-09. It was 20minutes to 6:00pm when my boyfriend and I arrived. KNowing that the last tanning session was at 6:20, we both signed up for that time slot. After working out, we went over to the desk to tell them we were ready to tan at about 6:18. Someone had crossed out my name, put theirs and already gone in. NO other beds were available. All the assistant manager said was "Sorry". I went over to knock on the tanning room door and a female employeee immediately ran up to my boyfriend and I and strated yelling at us that we weren't allowed to knowck on the door. I went back to the front desk and asked why they were not doing anything about it and the assistant manager informed me that it is not their RESPONSIBILITY to monitor the tanning beds. (? then whose is it?) The female employee told me to stop raising my voice and continued to scream at my boyfriend and I when we informed her that we were being rude. She told me to "shut up" and get over it because I wouldn't be allowed to tan anyway. She caused a huge scene and was so unprofessional it was disgusting. She then gave us both the MIDDLE FINGER as we walked out of the gym. When my boyfriend went back in to ask for her name and the corporate number she said that we were just going to complain because we were discriminating against her because she is a minority. I teach seventh grade in the South Bronx (at a 100% non-white Catholic school) and am definitely not racist by any means. When I called upon arriving home the asisstant manager hung up on me three times and refused to tell me when the manager was coming in. How is this ok for a paying customer to be treated like this. I have been going to Planet Fitness for 6 years and recently upgraded to the black card membership specifically for tanning privelages. And there is no corporate number? I will not rest until the female employee is reprimanded (at least) or fired. Someone has to do something about all these complaints!

I am so sorry you had to deal with something like this. The response to this comment sounds pretty bigoted (and ignorant but what else can one expect from a bigot).

One more thing the clocks are always off in this gym so you might not have been there at 6:18. Also was your boyfriend a guest, if he was he can not tan. Also if your serious about tanning why didnt you just get a proper tanning membership at the tanning salon next door where you buy your tanning lotion? Believe me the ast. manager at that time he would have not hung up on you, and it is so petty of you to want an employee to get fired because of tanning, and becauseyou know you were wrong for making racist comments when you your self are a Brasilian!

If this is not the little blonde Brasilian then you can ignore these comments but if you are you should be ashamed of how YOU spoke to her and just because you pay 19.99 a month after you upgraded that doesn't mean you are entitled to be racist.

Actually i know the staff and know people who were there that day and heard you say racist things to the girl, also she only stuck her middle finger at you after you had said racist comments and it was when you were leaving the gym. Also you should have been ready to tell them to set the bed for your tan when it was time otherwise after 2-3minutes someone else can go because you are wasting your time (15mins max to tan+ 5 to change). Read the rules when you sign a contract and when you get a specific membership that allows you to tan, its very simple.

Planet Fitness broken air conditioning

I have been a member of Planet fitness for 3 years. I have switched from one location to another. I started out in the Springfield MA location, then Enfield CT, and now Delmar. I would never say they are a top of the line gym, but it is clean enough and quiet enough for the money they charge. If I was paying more than $20 a month I could see complaining about old machinery or lack of variety, ect. The fact of the matter is that you are getting what you pay for: a small gym with the basics.
When I started going to the albany location, i was pleased. It was quiet, clean, and everyone seemed nice enough. The warm weather has recently set in. I kept mentioning to my friend how hot it seemed in the gym. At first I dismissed it and assumed it was a natural reaction to working out. But I noticed the thermostat in the gym one day. I snuck over and read it. The thermostat said it was 78 degrees in the gym. I dismissed it and thought, well maybe they aren't ready to turn the AC on yet. I then decided to go tanning, something I don't normally do, but I thought since I had a wedding coming up, it might be nice to get a little color. I got in, lied down and after 5 minutes it got so hot in the room i almost passed out. I ran out and ran to my car.

I went back the next day to discuss the issue. They told me that the AC was broken and that they were not sure when it would be fixed. I told everyone I knew about this. They too started to complain seperatly. The gym told us all the same thing. They told us we could go to any of the other planet fitnesses if we wanted, since they all have working AC. My friend made the point that she was not about to drive an extra 30 minutes to work out because the gym was unwilling to fix a fundamental problem with their service. They told her "sorry our hands are tied."

We are now looking for a way to either quit without being charged or some how make them more apologetic about the issue.

Planet Fitness firing employee based on untrained task

On 4/20/09 approx 1455hr i Antonio jordan employee of planet fitness 140 taunton ave seekonk ma.was reporting to work for 1500hr to 2200hr.when i was approached out side the door by manager angela noury and personal trainer april.b.Angela told me she was letting me go because i didnot meet the expectations of a mystery shopper that came into the gym on 4/15/09.Wich was a shift that i was covering for jessica so her and angela can go to a rock concert in lowell ma.who ended her shift at noon to go party.A 3hr shift from a salary worker is not good.(she let me go as members were comeing and going through the door looking over knowing something was going on, very humilateing)I was employed at planet fitness around 2nd week of Dec.08 by Tracy who was manager at the time. Not realizeing she would leave the company a wk later.Angela Noury took over as manager, a week later she told me to my face that she would of not hired me.She applied that she would of hired her people, planet fitness being a judgement free zone i was thinking family and friends, but the short time that i was employed there and the atmospher that surrounded me made me believe that i was not like by the employees that Angela hired because of my race. It was a constant battle for me to get employees to welcome me.members loved me and spoke to me daily wether working or working out.Even though Angela Noury never shown me how to conduct a tour i was able to get people to join the gym.The same tour i gave people that bgot them to join is the same tour i gave the mystery shopper. I was aware that i was never shown the planet fitness way to do the tour but my personality help me influance people to join.Several members a lot of them would come to me with questions that the manager should answer when i directed them to her they would say never mind.I was written up several times because i was working a shift were another employee forgot to do there duties that i was not aware of, no one would inform me that things were not complete, So next morning it would be my fault because i was the closeing employee. And the employee that didnot finish there work leave as i came in not informing me of unfinish work.So it was surpriseing to me that i was let go for a task that was never taught to me in the begining. Sincerly Antonio Jordan

im leaving the gym and so has 2 other( black card members) friends of mine because of the attitude of the manager alone. she runs the place and walks around like she is better then everyone . when were the paying cust. she yelled at 2 of my friends because we refused the tour in the 30 min express workout area. weve been going to the gym in pawtucket for over a year and we were using a machine in the express due to no machines being open anywhere else. she due to us refusing the tour she cancelled their membership. luckily i wasnt at that machine when this happened so my membership was not cancelled so i then transferred to seekonk and discovered it was the same manager ive not gone since and will be heading down asap to cancel even tho i have to pay this lousy buy out fee of 58.00 but its worth it to get out of such a negative atmosphere!

Planet Fitness unethical & unfprofessional

The manager at this facility Albert Grier is the most unethical and unprofessional individual that I have ever dealt woth in my life (mind you I work for the government and deal with different types of people daily). I had over a month attending the gym and never had a picture taken and on 4/1/09 I go in and was told that I had to take a picture. I told them nicely that I'd do it any other day because I was not in the mood and that I have a month attending and they wanted to take it on that specific day. The manager threaten to cancel my membership that is after he hunt me down across the gym like if I was some type of perpetrator, I agreed to take the picture just to be left alone and go on with my workout.
Then on 4/3/09 I go in and am working out with other members of the gym and Mr. Grier comes by and says that we are making to much noise and once again threatens to cancel everyone's membership this time. at this point I'm annoyed because I'm not going there for free plus I have a contract. He then says that I can't continue doing the 30 minute express workout because I was doing it wrong so I then go and hit the weights just so I don't have to hear his mouth and he goes up to the machine I was in and stops it and says I have to get up and leave the premesis. At this point I'm beyond upset and he says he will call the police I guess to intimidate me but I know my rights as a law abiding citizen and said do as you please. I then call the authorties on him as well and ask to speak to management and he says that there is none and tells all of the employees not to speak to me. I waited for the police to come and explained my concern along with 12 witnesses that I had. He was just concerned with cancelling my membership and he sure did. So I contacted The Better Business Bureau. The federal Trade Commision, Consumer Affairs and filed a complaint against him with the police.
When you try to contact their management company it seems that no one is around to answer your concerns.

Boy these posts are right on the money. I used to be a member in the Waterford, Michigan Planet Fitness! A group of 6 ladies kept rudely jumping in front of me on the equipment. I politley voiced my concern to them and they responded with unkind words and gestures including four letter abusive language! they then complained to the owner/GM (Chris Clebba) who with out even hearing my side, asked me to leave! I took it to the corp. office, and they of course sided with him! He has lost other members in recent months for similiar issues. Hell of a policy on customer service you guys have! I hope someone important is reading these posts! As an ambassador to one of the local chambers of commerced and being on the oakland chamber network don't expect any good comments from me!

Thank you, thank you! I have been searching for this number. You can reach the chief executive officer, Michael Grondahl, on ext 101. Good luck getting them to return you call...they won't.

If you are having billing or debt collection problems:
You should sue for violations of the Fair Debt Collections Practice Act (FDCPA - Title 15 U.S.C. §§ 1692-1692p). Look specifically at sections 807 and 808 among others. Civil damages for violations are $1, 000 per violation. Also look into violations of your states debt collection laws. It very easy to show that Planet Fitness regularly violates debt collection laws. In you motion be sure to ask for court costs, resonable attorneys fees as well as any punative damages the law will allow.

Planet Fitness bad management/bad business

My experience with Planet Fitness in Addison, IL has been the same as all the other complaints on this board and other complaint boards across the web. We are all saying basically the same thing... limited equipment, rude management, and staff that is severly lacking in knowledge and courtesy!
The bathrooms are always dirty and out of soap. The front desk staff is useless. They even border on "shy"! They look intimidated by other gym members, and they don't make eye-contact.

I would also like to add that the maintenance of the gym is virtually non-existent! 4 of the 12 treadmills have been out of order for 3 months. They also haven't been cleaned is as long. They are an inch deep in grimy, filthy, dust balls! Recently, I discovered that the spray bottles they fill up with "cleaning solution" for members to wipe down the equipment is no longer being filled with cleaning solution. Now the bottles are only being filled with simple tap water! I find that revolting!
What really infuriated me was when I found the free weights I use to work out my biceps, were being used outside on the sidewalk to prop the door of the gym open! What kind of a substandard organization uses the equipment that SHOULD BE for its members to prop open a door?

When I confronted the GM, Terry, he told me that he didn't appreciate my attitude and made it seem like I was the one who was wrong! Astounding! Last time I checked, I pay a monthly fee to be a member! Now I realize that I am only wasting my money on a club that doesn't respect itself or its members. The GM's lack of concern for his own club's maintainance and upkeep mirrors the same concern he has for paying club members!

they remodeling the place a few months back--and it sucks bad! i've been a gym member at many different places over the years and have never seen a gym with billboards in total spanish. america is an english speaking country and this is the heartland of the midwest, yet you'd think you're in a foreign country when you read the signs in there. i can't stand it when these foreigners move to our country and then don't learn english. and why should they, when they have companies like this one, who will be all too eager to bend over for them and reward their disrespect for our country's traditions & values by providing them with a crutch to never have to learn the language-of-the-land? pathetic!

Planet Fitness bogus billing

My Son joined the US Marines on January 20, 2009. Before he left for Boot Camp he cxl'd his memebership at Planet Fitness. However they continue to bill him and charge him late and services fee. He left with a zero balance and now they have an outstanding balamce of $180.00. We have called them and told him that my son cxl'd his memebership, that he is in Boot camp, and that they should not be charging them. They just ignore our phone calls, are refuse to respond to any of our inquiries...all they keep doing is charging him and adding late fees. This is disgarcefull that they are allowed to continue to do this especially to someone who is serving their country.

Hey Mr Martone these people are really deceitful. Sad what they are doing to a Marine like your son. Try to write a certified letter with return receipt mentioning all your attempts to cancel and keep copies of everything. Hopefully it will work.

Planet Fitness is the worst. I cancelled my membership with them 3 years ago with a 0 balance. Didn't hear one peep for three years. Then all the sudden last month got a bill from them saying I owe them $80. I called to resove issue and now will have to spend my precious freetime writing them nasty letters until they back off. I plan in reporting them to every consumer, bbb possible. I hope they go out of business. They suck.
