After numerous unproductive calls to the Magnavox Customer Support Line and as a last resort I have written a letter to Magnavox to demand a full refund for an LCD TV Magnavox LCD, Model: 32MF1D/37 Serial: BZ3A0609170320. I purchased this TV on 4/21/2006. The TV began having issues on 6/15/2006. The unit would not respond to the remote or to manual commands. The unit would turn off periodically by its self and/or the screen would go blank with the power remaining on. I have taken this TV to two separate repair shops. The TV sat in the first repair shop for a month and a half July 2nd thru September 1st, while Magnavox failed to ship the desired part, a CBA Sealer, to the authorized dealer. I then took the TV to a second repair shop, where the TV has currently been for a month and 1/2, hoping to have a better outcome. This repair shop is stating the same issue, that Magnavox has not sent the part. When I call Magnavox Customer Support I get absolutely no where. I have attempted to order the part myself directly from Magnavox and was turned away. Since Magnavox has stated they are unwilling to send me the part and for one reason or another Magnavox has been unable to send the part to the repair shop with in the 3 ½ months and counting I wrote a letter demanding a full refund. If I do not receive a response to resolve this issue I will be filing a claim in Florida against Magnavox in the amount of the TV. WARNING: Do not buy a Phillips/Magnavox product.

I feel very fortunate with my Maganavox 37MF331D/37. I have had it for almost 3 years and haven't had any problems ... that is, until recently. It sounds like my problems are a combination of things other people have mentioned. Here's what's going on:

1) I, too, am having the on/off problem that many others have complained about. I can usually get it to turn off after resetting the surge protector and sitting in front of the TV so I can see when the power light goes off. Then, it takes anywhere from 11 - 16 tries to get it to turn on.

2) The second problem is with the HDMI cable. It was plugged into the Uverse box and all of sudden, I started getting an error message about the HDMI cable not working on my tv. Never mind that it had been working, now it doesn't.

3) The third problem is with the color. When the tv finally comes on, the picture is in color ... for about 30 to 45 minutes, then the picture reverts to black and white (reminders from my childhood).

4) Today, the tv has started to experience sound problems. While watching it, the sound would completely stop and would only return after I turned off both the tv and Uverse box and leaving it off for a few seconds.

This tv is almost 3 years old (bought before prices started to drop) and, in my opinion should not be having these problems. Magnavox must not have a quality program or have one that they take seriously. I haven't decided if it's worth repairing. Perhaps I'll continue to use it until it completely dies (while complaining all the while). Like others have said, I will definitely do my research before I buying a new tv. With the economy the way it is, I don't have the money to by a new one. Someone above stated that they used to like Magnavox products. I did too, but I will never buy another Magnavox or Philips product.

For the person who said they were interested in filing a class action suit. They take awhile to be resolved and, sometimes, the judge will break up the class and hear certain cases on their own. A few years ago, I had to replace some tires on my car, which had been bought at Exxon. They refused to reimburse me (and I was just asking for the difference in price between the old tires and new tires. I sent a copy of the letter to the Texas Attorney General's office. Guess what ... I received a reimbursement check from Exxon shortly after that. I had a good outcome witih doing that, so maybe think about doing the same thing.

If everyone calls magnavox with these complaints they may issue a recall. I just got off the phone with them for the second time. I have a 32MF231D/37 and the unit powers off untill i unplug it and plug it back in. Now it won't even turn on. The repair center said it is the mainboard that needs to be replaced and the part itself is $400.

Complain!

I have a Magnavox LCD TV, purchased probably 2007, model 37MF331D/37 which is about 2 yrs old now and it has always had a "wink out" issue...would go black for about 5 seconds while watching it. Finally, and I figured this day would come, I can't turn it on. The green light is steadily blinking. I've just read all these and I'm pretty discouraged...especially about another Magnavox LCD I just bought. Let's get these TVs together, have a bonfire, and file a class action lawsuit. I'm disgusted at Magnavox TVs and probably will be for the rest of my life, and I'll pass it along to my kids and their kids and everyone I know. Nice job Magnavox...you've just screwed with the two areas that could possibly redeem you: customer service and customer loyalty.

I have a 42" Magnavox TV, Model 42MF230A. The TV is about 18 months old. It started to have a wash-out problem at the top. It now has various color bands all across the flat panel.

This of course will be my last Magnavox (Phillips) product. When you pay $1000 + for a TV you expect it to last.

I purchased my 37" Magnavox from Wal Mart model #37MF321D/37 I purchased the extended warranty and after one year it would not turn on. It was fixed under warranty and worked for one year before going out again. Now it is one month out of warranty and I'm out of luck. The problem starts with the power turning off seconds after you try to turn it on and it does this for a month or two then it will not turn on at all. I am going to replace the capasitors and put the TV in another room and purchase a new TV. No more Phillips or Magnavox products for me. I contacted customer support and they had a don't care attitude I ended up hanging up on the support rep. When I took my TV in the first time for repair there where two others in the shop for the same problem.

I basically have the same problem as most of you ine here 32MF231D/37. First the TV worked great, then after a year or so, every once in a while, you turn on the set and the green light would come on and you had sound and no picture. I'd turn it off, and turn it back on, no more problems. This would do this approximately every 3 or 4 days. Not a big problem to me, so I never bothered with it. Today, went to turn it on, no power what so ever, no green light, nothing. So I been reading rhis 6 page post. I even tried to open up the back, removed he 8 screws and i cant even git the back off the TV.

Anysuggestions on that, so i can look at the diodes and capcaitors?

WOW I found my soul mates! Same problem 1 month after warranty ran out! Light flashes for 6 to nine minutes then goes out then sometimes it will come on if you press again. I took mine to a repair shop they replaced the power source $125.00 now 11 months later it is doing it again. The repair guy told me that this componant is made in Indonesia and they have vertually no quality control and would only warranty for 30 days! I too think a class action is appropriate.

Same problem as all. Model # 32MF23ID137. Rudy seems to have some good info, so I'll probably try that out after some basic attempts that everyone else has done. Time is hard to come by except when your not watching TV all the time and then there is a lot of it. Anyway, past warranty and the consumer is screwed, so if Rudy is right, that will probably be the best solution. If you/whoever can not do this fix on your own it might be a good try to have someone who can give it a shot. Good luck.

I got a magnovox as a christmas gift a year ago, and it has the same problems as have been reported here. I suggest everyone write a letter to the attorney general. This is robbery. Nothing is made here in this country, all the united states businesses that have gone overseas to manufacture, have robbed us not only of the jobs that we use to do but now they are robbing us of our hard earned money, credit card expenses and the rest of it. Class action suits sound like a great idea to me, let me know if you want me to sign up.

Same problem Mgnavox 37MF231D/37 can't get it to turn on, light green flashes, forever!...use to come on after a while, but now not..told it is the capacitators that need replacing. Is that a hard thing to do? I am pretty good with mechanical/fiddling things, but have no idea what I am dealing with in regards to the insides of this stupid TV! so unfair :(

Ok. I am having the same problem as most of you. Green light comes on, blinks for a while and the shuts off. We are attempting to change the capacitors from 25v to 35v. I hope this works, or else I'm going to have a 40in piece of junk. I wonder if I should just send the whole television to Magnavox and let them dispose of it?

I will never buy another Phillips/Magnavox product again. I have a 42" LCD purchased two years ago at Costco. It cost just under a thousand bucks - a big purchase for me as I am on fixed income. I could go on and on about problems but not add anything that you have not read in the thousands of other complaints.

JUST NEVER, NEVER, NEVER PURCHASE A PRODUCT MADE BY PHILLIPS/MAGNAVOX. YOU WILL ONLY GET **CKED!

my husband and I purchased a 46 inch magnavox from sears in 2007, it lasted about a year and a half. First the green light would come on, and no picture, and eventually after hours, sometimes the next day it would come on. It appeared to be working alright, and then wouldn't you know it, right when we thought that we were alright it would go out again. The last time it went out, the green power light still comes on, but no picture. So I guess I should have done some investigating too, but I also thought the Magnavox was a credible brand. A definite NOOOOOOOO!

I purchased a Philips 50' Plasma about 2 yrs ago (50PF9631D/37). I have been having the same problems that I have been reading about on this post. Green power indicator light will turn to a blinking red light and tv will not power on. Initially I was able to unplug the tv and have it reset and it would work. But, progressively it became more complicated to get the tv to go on. I would have to plug and unplug the tv listening for a clicking noise after unplugging the tv and then quickly plug it back in when I would hear the clicking noise. I would repeat this step about 15 times to work. As time went by it became 20, 30. Now what happens is that I need to unplug the tv, plug it back in, power it on with the remote, repeat steps 15-20 times, then go through the process of unplugging and plugging the tv until it works! Philips was no help when I called w/ this problem. It is a shame because the quality of the picture is great! But what an f---ing ripoff! I have a Mitsubishi I purchased 21 yrs ago, for the past 4 yrs it has been outside in the florida heat and humidity on my covered patio. I works great! No more philips/Magnavox products for me or anyone else I can educate about there poor quality.

i purchased a 47 inch phillips lcd 3 months ago, i cracked the screen which is completely my fault. After call the service center i find out that all the parts for this model number arent being made any more model # 47pfl5603d/f7 so inshort no warrenty, no parts available for me to purchase to correct my screwup so 1600.00 dollars down the drain and nothing that can be done about it the place where i bought the tv wont even refound the extended service plan i purchased for and additional 5 year at 600 dollard which is wothless since you cant get the parts anyway. Anny help or advise would be greatly appreciated Thanks Keith, Florida

I had commented recently on the fix problem for the 32MF231D/37 being a temperature control IC on the power supply sabotaging itself to shut off.
This seems to be the culprit. This requires a little bit of basic disassembly of the back shell and the metal shroud over the power supply, then you need a fan.
Blow it on the PS. The tv WILL stay on...all I can say is when I DIDNT blow the fan on the PS, within minutes the tv made a loud hiss and shut off. This is a bad design to put the power supply in such a closed in area.
All I can say at this point is there shouldn't be too many more complaints being that the fix to the problem is discussed here. Take the bull by the horns and fix it!

Are there any suggested fixes for a rear projection 60" Magnavox TV with a blank screen? I was given this TV in working condition and was able to watch about 5 minutes of TV before the screen went black and sound shut off. The TV itself still looks like it's on, but there are no displays- looks like TV is off. ANY SUGGESTIONS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM MYSELF? Thx!

Phillips Magnacrap 26mf231d, purchased December of 2007. Television LCD backlight died 5 days out of warranty. Got the extended warranty, so that was fixed free of charge after 3 months of screwing with their parts dept for the correct part. 1 week after getting it back, it develops this issue of working for a little while, then the screen goes to static and the speakers produce a horrendous screeching noise. Unit reboots, works about 30 seconds and does this again. Rinse and repeat. A simple google search produces numerous models of Phillips Magnavox with the exact same or similar issues. Parts are few and far between if you can even figure out which component is failing. No blown capacitors, no burn marks, it doesnt even feel like it's that warm...These jerks need fined by the government or something...

Magnavox is a joke. I bought a 32 " model number 32mf337b/27 in June of 08, worked great until recently, tv will not turn on after shutting it off. Have to unplug it over and over until the power light turns green. Getting sick of it so I made a call to the Magnavox sevice center. I was elated to talk to a nice gentleman who said that it was a unit that was being replaced. So I would recieve a replacement tv in about 10- 15 business days by FedEx. Well... I then got a call back from the gentleman I talked to and was told that he was wrong and it was a tv that was to be serviced, and they would pay for the part and I would have to pay for labor. The catch, their nearest service providor was 2 and a 1/2 hours away, umm yeah ok I am going to travel that far to get my tv fixed and pay for all the labor. I was furious, and couldnt accept that for an answer, so I told the guy to tell his boss and figure out what they could do. Well I just received a call back from a very rude man who hollared at me and told me that all they could do is provide me with a service provider 1 and a 1/2 hours away. After loosing my temper with him he presumed to tell me i was lying about being told originally that I would receive a replacement and hung up on me without even telling me the name of the place that would service it. A bunch of COWARDS if you ask me. So I had to call back and all I was told that I could make a complaint of their website. Well I am not going to settle for that, SORRY. Anyone have a clue what else I can do?

I also have a 42mf231d have had it for three years. After the first year the TV would shut off on its own and the a few minutes later the tv would turn itself back on and be fine. Then we found out that if you tapped the tv in the middle of the back near the botttom the tv would come on and work trouble free for a few days then the same thing would happen. Now the tv will click for a second then click again and that s it nothing. Very dissappointed with this tv and will never buy a Magnavox or phillips tv again!

I have a 32in Magnavox model 32MF231D/37 that I bought about 3 years ago. Seems like from the beginning I had an issue with the power...I'm not even sure if that is the problem. Half the time it will work when I turn it on using the remote the other half of the time when I try to turn it on using the remote the green power light will go on and it will stay on, black screen and then the power light just shuts off. From that point it will not turn on from the remote of manually pushing the on button. I have to repeatedly unplug and plug the power cord from the back of the tv until the green power light comes on again. Sometimes I am lucky and that will do the trick and after a few seconds/minutes it will finally turn on, but most of the time I have to repeat the unplug/plug of the power cord before it will turn on and stay on. It is the most annoying thing ever! I don't have the money to buy another TV otherwise I would have gotten rid of this thing a while ago. Definitely disappointed with it.

I purchased a Philips TV model #47PFL3603D/27 in September of 2008 and paid around $1500 for the unit. We put the unit in our upstairs office area and only used the TV on the weekends for upstairs retreats to watch football games. We noticed early on that the TV was having some sound problems and about every 45 minutes a loud static noise would come over the TV. Initially we thought it might be a Dish Network problem and called Dish who told us to simply turn off the TV and Dish and power back up. This worked fine but after a while became annoying so we had a Dish repair person visit our home who said we should try a new HDMI cable. We tried this and the problem persisted. We called Dish back and they came back out to our home to say it was not a Dish issue for us to contact who we bought the TV from. We contacted Target who would not accept the unit as a return because it was now past the 90 days. As a result, we contacted Philips who put us in touch with a repair center in Dallas. The repair center picked up the TV and had it for three weeks before they diagnosed the problem. For an additional 2-3 weeks, the replacement part was on "back order". I grew tired of using the repair center as a go between and contacted Philips consumer affairs department directly. I was told that policy stated the TV must be in the repair shop for 21 days before a part can be ordered. After appealing to the manager of that department, I was told that I would receive a call from another department in 36 hours. Of course the call never came and I had repeatedly make calls to consumer affairs. Once I was reached by "customer relations" I was told that they had to wait another two days to see if they could find the part. Two days later, no call. I called every day until I got an answer - the part would be another five weeks. I refused to be without the unit for that much longer and they agreed to replace the unit in approximately 10 days. I was so emotionally tired of this situation and was so relieved to feel like the issue was resolved. UNTIL …The unit arrived at my house yesterday as a refurbished unit that was not even the same as the old one. When I called customer relations to tell them I never agreed to a refurbished replacement, they said it's in the warranty fine print and that if the TV works, then I should have nothing to complain about. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PULEEZE! DO NOT PURCHASE A PHILIPS BRAND PRODUCT! This has caused emotional chaos and exhaustion in my everyday life for over six months and has affected my family life. I have had to take numerous days of work to have TVs picked up, delivered, and for visits from the satellite company yet the issue is still not resolved. Essentially, I am being punished for making what was obviously a poor purchase. Do not let this happen to you!

I purchased a magnavox 52" lcd in Feb 08 and by March 09 its dead.
Thought the TV was great until this happened. At first it was taking longer and longer to turn on and sometimes when it would turn on it would freeze up and then fade out. I called the service center and they extended my warranty, (warranty was up by 1 month), 3 months for parts only, I would have to pay labor. The electronics company charged me $90 dollars just to walk in the door. The kid didnt even check anything out, he just said that that problem is caused by the board and that he would have to order a new one. A week and 1/2 later and he shows up and the new board is defective, (does he know what hes doing?), and says he'll have to order a new one. Well now the TV doesnt work at all. Oh ya, $175 for labor, this TV cost me $1800 a year ago! Anther week 1/2 has gone by and i'm still waiting. Sounds like from these other complaints that they're going to try and con me into spending even more money to fix it. WONT HAPPEN!
FYI, On the back of the TV it says "Made in Mexico". I work with people who's former employers have moved their business to Mexico. They went there to help start them up. They told they are paid $12 a day and that good workmanship is nonexistent, I wont get into any details, they were just glad to come home alive. Its not the Mexican peoples fault, its just the way it is!

Update: I removed the metal shroud that was covering the (PS) power supply. Even though I DID infact replace (3) Caps 2074, 2079 and 2080, still did the same thing when I put everything back together. It would turn itself off after a few minutes...THEN, I took off the back AND the metal shroud over the PS and noticed when I turned the TV on the heat sinks would get super hot. I took a fan and turned it on medium and blew it onto the bare open-back and now the tv stays on...works fine.
This means there's a thermal shutoff reset circuit on the PS.

Putting the PS inside a poorly vented shroud AND covering it with a poorly vented plastic back is causing the PS to shut itself off.
I will go to a surplus store and buy a big DC computer fan, mount it onto the plastic case and manually switch it on(so now I can put my plastic backing back on).

I purchased my 37" lcd Magnavox at walmart xmas of 2005. Since there were so many name brands, I thought, Magnavox has been around so long, I figured it was the sure bet for the better TV. Boy was I wrong. sometime in 2008, to try and get the tv to turn on was rediculous, the green light would turn on, then flicker on and off then turn off, then we have to power it up again, and after 5 min the tv would turn on. At the end of march 2009, it just would not turn on, then we tried it again and it started that long process with the flicking on/off green light. Last night, it just wouldn't turn on again. After reading what everyone has gone thru with their magnavox tv, I won't even waste my time to take it to a repair shop. although I might try replacing the capacitor 2074 on power supply. If that don't work, then I'll trash the tv and NEVER will I ever buy magnavox!

42 inch flat panel lcd magnavox purchased Nov 2007 at Home Depot. No Power No Lights.. nothing. Can't find a fix to it anywhere or troubleshooting sites. I see someone replaced capacitor 2074 on power supply.. guess I'll try that. Otherwise out of warranty and probably 300-400 to get it fixed, not worth it.

I have a 50"plasma tv that I purchased in Feb, 2007 from best buy, a few months later the tv would turn it self of for a few minutes and comes on again, at first I thought that maybe my husband was pressing the remote; but this continued until March 2008 . Then the tv went off for good. When it is switched on, a green light comes on stay a few seconds the it turns red and blinks like in intervals of seven. When we called customer service, we were directed to Ai tv repair who told us it would cost us about $1000.00 to fix and there was no guarantee that the problem would not re occur. Please help us

How about a recall on the 37MF231D LCD TV!
The numerous complaints should tell the company something.
I won't purchase another Magnavox now that ours won't turn on after 1 year.

I bought a magnavox model42MF231D/37 on 5/12/2007. a couple of days ago the screen went black. tried rebooting and called cable. Was not a cable problem. Called Sears where I purchased it. They sent a repairman for a basic charge of $117. Found that the problem was a pcb buffer (circuit board). Said they could replace at a cost of 315.72 but there was no guarantee that that would fix the problem as the problem may have caused the screen to "go" and/or other parts to be affected. I opted to go buy a new SONY tv, but am keeping the magnavox in my garage and intend to pursue this issue with philips/magnavox. The tv is less than 2 years old and I did not purchase an extended warrently since my last tv, a mitsubishi, lasted almost 20 years. I paid $1, 000. From what I've read on-line, it sounds like I'll not have much luck, but I'm going to give it a try. I can't believe a company like Phillips would show such a lack of integrity and unwillingness to back up their product's quality and reliability. I can only be thankful that I hadn't fallen asleep in front of the tv when it went because there was something burning inside of it and you could smell it.

We got our Magnavox 37" about 3 years ago (lucky us!) and recently when you turned it on you had to wait 5 moinutes because it would go on-off...on-off...on-off... repeating for 5 minutes before finally staying on.

We shut it off and went to bed and had 2 power spikes at our apartment complex. The TV is plugged into a power surge strip. Didn't matter. Never came back on - you could see the TV come on for 3 seconds and then off. Repeat and the same result. I replaced the power cord and still no luck.

Have not called anyone at Magnavox yet. After reading these forums it looks like it's a brick to us. That's ok because we alreayd bought a new 52" Aquos and LOVE IT!

Magnavox USED to be a quality company but they just about fast and cheap to manufacture.

I bought a 32MF231D/37 from someone for $50 bucks because it quit working one day & he wanted to dump it. It was shutting off & turning on then wouldn't come on. Green light is working.
I am going to replace (3) capacitors 2074, 2079 and 2080 on the power supply. I'll post my results & may do a you tube video. (if this works).
