On 11/18/2013 we toojk my 3 year old daughter for dental services.I was told she had 14 cavaties and needed fillings and 2 caps. They strapped her down in a papoose board for 2 hours and had to stop 3 times because she was so hysterical she behgan to gag and vomit on herself and the staff. After I had had enough and asked them to stop I noticed my baby's lip[ was swelled 3 times it's size and as we were getting ready to leave, her caps fell out right there in the waiting room. They then had to return her to the papoose board and put her caps back on. Before we got to the car, her mouth continued to swell, I immediately rushed her to Downey Regional Medical Center where she was treated for an allergic reaction to the topical anesthetic or injectable numbing agent they used. I called Dr. Joel Kim as I was in it ER and asked him what they used on my daughter and he said he couldn't tell me! He stated they use a cocktail of drugs to numb their patients and it would be impossible to pinpoint which one it was that she had a reaction to, and it really isn't his job to find this out! He said for me to take her to her regular pediatrician and have a series of allergy tests run on her and have them find out what caused her allergic reaction. After the swelling went down I noticed what they did to my baby! They ruined her teeth & smile. Her front teeth are grey now and her alignment is higher on one side than the other and the sides of her mouth are finally healing from being split from being pried open so forcefully and for so long. The attached photo is before we even left the office. Her mouth and lips continued to swell about 5 times their original size. Their practices at this facility are barbaric and this experience has not only ruined my child's once beautiful smile but has scarred her pshchologically for life.

I was not being mean. I was pointing out it might not be the mother's fault her child had so many cavities. At that age, the child should have been sedated. The dentist is at fault for the swelling and lack of care. I think if I was the mother I would sue the ### of the dentist. There is no.excuse for the total disregard for child's.well being.

In fairness, my parents had major problems with my teeth because I had deep roots in my teeth. My mom never allowed is sugar, juice of any kind of sweets of any kind ever. I always had cavities, and my mom diligently brushed my teeth. My dad was union, so they had great dental insurance. It was not until the invention of sealant that my cavities stopped. It is not always the parents' fault, sometimes just crappy genetics.

Your 3 yr old had 14 cavities, Uh, hello? take some responsibility Mom. You could've prevented this by being a responsible parent and keeping your child away from sweets and juice. Also if you had a problem with the treatment you could've stopped them after 10 min. NOT 2 hrs and then complain about all the work they had to do on your child due to your negligence. I agree with the above poster that the patient probably has DentiCal so its hard to find drs. to treat cases like these because they reimburse drs. so low. It's a crappy situation for everyone, the patient, the parents, and the dr. IF YOU DONT HAVE GOOD INSURANCE DONT PUMP YOUR KIDS FULL OF SUGAR!

Some places, do not allow parents in with the child during treatment because they week it makes the child more dramatic. I was fortunate not that my children had no dental issues. Reading between the lines, and why a child that was getting that much dental work was not sedated, the mom most likely has dental-cal. With the cutbacks most ethical dentists no longer accept it. Which leaves [censored]bags like the mom described. Poor baby!

Had you been there to calm your baby down she would not have been frightened and hysterical . She was obviously scared and mommy was not there with her. Also they are not responsible for allergic reactions. She is three I am sure she will forget about this ordeal and it won't haunt her for the rest of her life. As for her teeth being grey you yourself admitted you stopped them before they were finished.
