Northland Group Paid credit card off thorough them.

I Patrick Smith paid my Capital One credit card debit to Northland group in Bloomington Minnesota. Now I have another credit Company trying to collect on a debt that I have already paid I tried contacting Northland group but they will not answer the phone. I paid this debt and I am confused because I should not have to be going threw this again when i paid the debt off. I need help with this group because I believe they stole my money and didn't inform capital one of the debt being paid. Then when the phone rings they pick the phone then they hang the phone up. Unable to resolve with them.

Desired outcome: Seek punitive damages and it be reported as being paid to capital one

Northland Group collections

Received two separate (false) claims by USPS of being pursued by a major retailer (closed account; zero balance) for collection of unpaid credit card balances.

The first was a request for payment in full, the second, using the same total, was an offer to split the cost into smaller monthly payments

Called the major retailer to let them know and they did not have any process by which the matter could be addressed.

The BBB site does not allow for collections related posts/complaints.

We knew this was a false claim due the account being closed and we verified the zero balance with the retailer, however, the mailings are likely to easily convince others to send in payments as they give the appearance of legitimacy.

Northland Group phishing scam

I am a Senior living in FL on a fixed income. I received a bill from this co. on Jan. 9th 2014 in the amount of $856.75 for some company called "Galaxy International Purchasing." I have never heard of this company and I have never done business with them. Northland offered me a charge off amount of $ 171.36. I wrote to them immediately and told them this was NOT my account and not to contact me any more about this. Sometime during the first week of Feb. they posted this bill to my credit scores. I have contacted the BBB in Minn, and I hope they can convince this company to stop this practice.

Northland group are bad people with bully tactics. They call my house all the time and ask for someone not here. I have tried to get to the bottom of the call...they will not talk rationally. They keep calling back, even though they have promised they have taken my number off thier list. Liars! I wish someone would look into this company and help!

Northland Group Collection letter

I received a letter from this company stating that I owe $25, 036.13 to a company called LVNV funding LLC. Original creditor was Citibank (South Dakota), N.A. They want me to settle for $3, 755.40 and my question is, for what? I don't have any debts with Citibank that I am aware of. And for 25Gs? Really? I dont think so. I need to find out exactly what this is about. My biggest problem with credit is that I dont have any. Good bad or whatever. What the hell is up?

Send them a validation stating that you are disputing the 3ntire debt and request 2 pieces of information...1. Proof that the debt is valid, and 2. Proof that they have legal standing to xema d a penny from you. Send it certified mail with return receipt. Do not sign the letter, just type your name. Keep a copy of the letter for your records. That should be enough to scare them away. Never ignore a debt collector.if they sue you, and you don't show up in court, they will get a summary judgement and make you legally responsible for a debt that Isn't e en real.

Northland Group harassing calls about someone elses dept

about 3 years ago i moved to my current address. i purchased cable through time warner and bundled internet and home phone (new account) i come to find out that the previous tenant, one Julie Birch (her mail still comes here) has major credit card dept (probably why she didn't fill a change of address)
what does this have to do with northland group you ask?
well before long they started calling MY new phone number asking for Julie Birch
I've explained over and over that there is no Julie Birch here, she was a previous tenant at this address, her mail still comes addressed to this address all these years later but we don't know her or have anything to do with her.
now they don't even talk when they call they just call and hangup almost daily i've blocked their number and they call using another one when i call back the new unlisted number "you have reached the notrhland group"
it's gotten to the point i tried to disconnect my phone service but that will break my "bundle" and cause increase in cable bill
i really wish these sob's would go out of business

This debt collector obviously doesn't care about the fact that they have the wrong person. They are trying to break you down to get you to pay a bill that isn't yours...just to get them to go away... It happens frequently. TO make them go away, you must send them a cease and desist communications letter. Either fax it (keep the printout saying the fax was sent successfully) or send it by certified mail with return receipt requested.(7831 Glenroy Road, Suite 250, Edina, MN 55439). Make it a simple letter stating that, pursuant to the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, the collection agency is to cease and further communications to the address and phone number (state your address and the number they are calling) as the person they are looking for (Julie BIrch) is no longer associated with either of them. Type your name at the bottom of the letter (Never sign a letter to a debt collector) This should be enough to make them go away because once they receive the letter, they must stop contact by federal law. Hope this helps and best of luck

Northland Group collection letter

I received a letter for a debt that I never had. They have been doing this under the name of Portfolio Recovery Services since I moved back to the US. And now I am getting this from Northland Group Inc. I think they are all linked. I was out of the country for 10 years so there is no way I owe anything! The statute of limitations on credit cards is 4 years so I don't know how they think they can even try to trick me. I don't understand why these companies are allowed to rip people off. So many people get scared by these letters and pay money they don't even owe! It's really sad.

Northland Group calling wrong number

Telephone Number [protected] keeps calling our number and asking for a person who has never lived there, I told them we had lived in this house for over 47 years and nobody by that name has ever lived here. I have contacted them by mail and by telephone. They still insist on contacting me about a credit card bill that was originally $360.00 but now they say it is more than $1800.00.

I am now sending a complaint to the federal trade commission about this matter. They attack my credit report twice each month. I am sick of them.

This may be a silly question, but is the original $360.00 bill legitimate; do you actually owe them that? If you do, then the bill has probably risen because of interest.

Northland Group Ripoff

In May 2012 we recieved a letter from Northland Group offering to settle a debt my daughter had for a total $356.94. In return they would send us a letter confirming the debt had been settled. We paid them the money since our daughter was unemployed and could not pay herself. Not only did we not get the letter promised but they never settled the debt. In essense Northland Group stole our money! Now we still have debt collectors calling wanting payment for the same debt Northland Group was paid tosettle. Do not sent these crooks any money! You will get nothing in return.

Northland Group Harrassment

Someone from the Northland Group called to settle a debt on a 1st Financial Bank card. I do have this debt, so I agreed that I would like to make payments. Unfortunately, I'm having some health issues at the moment, and I've had to reduce my hours at work because of it. I told him this and said the amount that I could pay each month. He asked me if I ever wanted to pay this account off. Did I not agree to just make payments? That wasn't good enough--he wanted a lump sum payment that I could not afford. Then he proceeded to tell me to borrow the money from my parents and pay them back later. My parents are deceased and have been for many years. I cannot get a loan from my bank because of this credit card, so he told me to try other banks and open up other credit cards if possible. Was very rude and kept stating that I didn't want to settle the debt. I had to yell over him that I did want to settle the debt but they would just have to take all that I could afford right now each month, that at least i'm making an effort. He then told me that it wasn't good enough and that after 6 months, i'd have to make a lump sum payment. I felt completely attacked the entire conversation. Really did not like dealing with this man or this company.

Northland Group Debt collection already paid

I received a notice over the weekend from the above referenced company. I was very upset to see that they are attempting to collect on a debt that not only went to collections in 2000, but the debt was settled in 2006 and paid. It was very upseting to say the least; but then I found all of the other complaints against this company and made me feel more at ease. I have written them a letter and sending certified disputing the debt. They sound like they are just a big scan artist company. Don't fall for their false claims!

Northland Group Collections SCAM!

My boyfriend received a settlement letter from this company stating he owed Macy's almost three hundred dollars but we could settle for 3 payments totaling $126.66. We knew he had an old account with Macy's that he did in fact owe on so we paid the three payments and went on with our business. Now I see all kinds of things about this company being fraudulent?! Now I don't know what to do! They are accredited by the BBB. I called and got transferred to someone else and then that person wanted an account number or a social security number. I told him I didn't have the account number in front of me and I wasn't giving them a social because they were a scam! So he said he was going to transfer me to a supervisor and I was on hold for a few minutes waiting so I hung up. I plan on calling back with the account number. I've already called my bank and started the process of filing a fraud claim against this company but I'm trying to do more research before I go through with it. There are almost 300 complaints against this company on the BBB website!

At this point I don't know what else you can do maybe write to your state A.G. but definitely keep the records of the successful payment with you for life. You might need them again to fight them off or others if the resell the same debt.

they are a real collection agency. And if you did in fact owe the money, AND not only agreed to pay but actually did pay, there is nothing you can do now to reverse that. If you had doubts, you should've asked all the questions prior to agreeing and paying because with collection agencies, just an agreement to pay is enough for them to pursue you.

As far as BBB complaints, I would say every collection agency on earth has complaints by debtors, it comes with being a collection agency.

I would be interested in hearing what you told the bank in regards to your fraud complaint.

You need to send them A letter telling them to stop contacting you immediately, and that they have 30 days to send you proof of this debt.in writing. Also tell them not to contact any of your family. This happened to me, and it was bogus. They put their legal dept on the phone trying to intimidate me. I asked them for their fax number, or you can find it on written correspondence, and I faxed them the letter. I found a legal example online. Needless to say I never heard from them again. Dont tell them you are doing this, just do it. Tell them all future correspondence needs to be through the mail, in writing. They will leave you alone after that.

Northland Group Debt Collection

They first send a letter, Letter shows past due account balance. Also shows settlement offer (close ot half oforignally showed due). I called the contact number and the representative says thats the due showing agianst my social (!). She syas she can make an update/correction ( no idea what kind of update/correction they can make) but asked to send USPS mail (!?). When you first called, she also says the conversation is recorded, anything can be used against ____ ___ ___. No idea what it really is.

When asked about the record/ debt/ merchannt, they do not have any answers, they just say its hsowing as Xcel?
She does n't even know what is Xcel? when and why it appears?

It could be a scam and they give heart attacks and waste our time

We opened a brand new office in a small town. Unfortunately, we chose an old number. Apparently a customer referred to the Northland Group for debt collection. The phone calls went from 1 a week to a few times a week. I didn't mind, that's my job, to answer the phones. Then I got a Customer Service person to beat them all. He asked for the lady, I told him that we were a business and she doesn't work here and never has. He told me that if "you would shut your mouth, I could give you another name she goes by". I told him to kiss my %&*#, which was a knee jerk reaction I admit. Perhaps I'm not used to being spoken that way to (we are in the South, ha). He laughed and laughed, telling me that "we'll keep calling you until we get different information". What a JERK!

I have complained to their email addresses and got zilch for responses. The phone still continue, about one a week. They even ask if I know her, how dumb is that? We are a business! I have repeatedly told them to take us off their call list and they still continue! Unprofessional...

I received a letter from Northland Group saying i had won 100, 000 USD from a canadian lottery. they then sent me a $ 3, 550 check to cash and pay alleged tax charges for the winnings. Of course i've never entered the lottery, leave alone one in Canada, so i looked up the company and sure enough here the company is... with tons of lawsuits up their back...

i suppose they'd have taken a similar, if not more money from my account if i had tried to cash the check... buggers!

watch out everyone

demand a Debt Verification letter, and tell them to provide proof the debt is yours.

Also, how old is the debt? This company is a bottom-feeder and will try to collect on debts that are out of the Statute of Limitations if you aren't careful.

Northland Group Fraudulant claim

I received a letter from Northland today stating that I owed $763.92 to Citibank and that they would settle for $229.20. I have never had a Citibank card or account in my life. I called Northland and they were trying to get me to give them all sorts of personal information to confirm my account or they said they couldn't discuss it with me. I didn't give them anything. I told the rep I spoke with to take my name out of their system or I would contact a lawyer and file charges. He reluctantly said he would but tried to use the scare tactic that it stay on my credit report...fat chance of that since the debt doesn't exist.

If this was a real claim then he wouldn't have been so quick to agree to stop sending me letters. Please don't fall for this scam.

My husband received an letter dated June 17, 2011 from Northland Group Inc. They claim he owed Santa Barbara Tax Products Group an past due amount of $490.41 from the 2003 tax year. They have listed the last four of his social security number on the letter. We have always had our taxes prepared professionally and paid the preparer at the time of the tax preparation. How can we now owe this amount that we have never been contacted about? I think this is truly a scheme and we will not be paying this bill. They did offer an settlement in the amout of $294.24, which seems to be the amount they seem to offer most of the people they attempt to con. I will be filing an compliant against this company.

Sometime ago I recieved a similar piece of mail from this same company attempting to collect on a debt that I believed wasn't valid. My question was if this is an old account purchased from another company, why not state the original claim in the letter? Please whatever you do don't give out any personal information over the phone. Recently the local news in my area did a series on how scammers are sending people fake bills to collect money. So, you really don't know who you are speaking to over the phone. Instead, get a credit report and check it yourself.

Northland Group Informed me that I owed money on a credit card that I closed that account 10 years prior

This company called me today 12/16/09 and informed me that I owed money on a credit card that I closed that account 10 years prior. I called the store that the card was through and was informed that if I did in fact owe money they would of found it through my SS.

As I already knew, nothing was found. I called Northland Group back and explained that I did not owe and they still insist that I do, I then called back the store that I had the card through and they reassured me that I do not have a debt with them. So, if northland group contacts you for an alleged debt, check all records and don’t give any personal information.

Northland Group Fraudalent account number provided

I was under the understanding I was paying on that account. I even requested a letter confirming my accont was paid. When I reviewed my credit report I notice that Capital One had sold the account to a different collection agency called Portfolio Recovery Associates and the account number did not match the account number Northland Group Inc. provided me. I have never opened another account with Capital One. I was ripped off my Northland Group Inc. I have tried numerous times to contact Northland Group Inc. and they refused to help me. I was hunged up several times. I also contacted Capital One and they said that account number that Northland Group provided never existed. Please help. Don't know what to do!

Northland was collecting a debt that I had with capitol one on two credit cards.I paid them off in 2004 and they sent me a letter of satisfaction. In April of 2008 they sent me a bill for the exact same debt.I faxed them a copy of the satisfaction letter, and I thought that would be the end of it.Then they sent me another collection letter September of 2008.I called them and they replied that I only paid off only one of the credit cards. Both cards totalled $700.00, the collection was $1750.00, which I paid. Now they are trying to charge me again. Can they really get away with this. What can I do about it?

Contact the FTC Your State Attorney General and a lawyer...I personally woudl sue them in small claims court ...You would probably need a lawyer for that! Deceptive collection practices...You might want to call the original creditors and see who they sold the account to! In certain states like Georgia you can record that call and you do not have to tell them you are recording!

Northland Group credit collection

They got my unpublished number and called and stated they were collecting on a bad debt from citibank. I advised them to call me back in a few days to work out a payment arrangement, Never heard back from then, Instead a company Client first from boca raton florida called and said that I have a structured settlement that they wanted me to have them help me withdrawel my funds to pay off old debt that i had. I told them that i do not own any structured settlement. I was not interested in talking to them. Recieved several other phone calls from northland that they wanted to know the details of why i have not be able to pay off the debit from city bank and wanted information on on my monthly income. I discountinued the calls. then client first continued phone calls to me with phone numbers that you could not return back, block numbers. Once I told client first i will call the police and report them, all phone calls from Northland group & client first stopped.
