New Horizons Computer Learning Centers So called IT training....it's a joke!

I was contacted by this "school" in 2012 after I sent a resume' for an entry level IT position in my state of Arkansas. I was part of a large layoff and the job I had to take was a large pay cut from my previous job so I was looking for something to give myself more marketable job skills. I was interested in IT so when I saw this "job posting", I applied. I never heard anything about the "job", but a couple of weeks ago or so I was contacted by someone from New Horizons offering me IT training. I had never heard of them and wondered how they got my contact information. They had about 3 levels of training being offered at that time and the two men I spoke with on the phone kept pushing me towards the most expensive package that included 8 certifications to the tune of about $23, 000. I was able to obtain 2 of the 8 certifications, Network+ and Security+. I was told by their so-called Career Placement person that once I had a couple of certifications under my belt, he'd help me find a job. This was not the case at all. Once I obtained these two certifications, I contacted him more than once and had to leave a voicemail. He never called back nor did he respond to my e-mails I sent asking for job help. I went on and attempted to take and pass the Windows 7 certification test and failed it because most of the questions on the test were geared towards people who had been in IT for a few years. I contacted another couple of young girls who were also supposed to help me find a job and all I got from them was them asking me to send them names of employers in Arkansas and they would contact them for me. To say the least, I didn't do this.
These people obviously posted a fake job ad in my state newspaper trying to get information from people to lure them into their "school" and lie to them further. I have since found out after all of this the school isn't even accredited with anyone! Someone seriously needs to investigate these people and shut the school down.

Desired outcome: I want a FULL refund of the $23,000 that I am STILL paying on since I was lied to from the very beginning.

Yes, they got me the SAME way in 2008. I responded to a job posting and spoke to someone named Jim. He told me they had paid training positions to fill!

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers quality of education / recruiting practices

ATTENTION ALL VETERANS! Please read this review in its entirety if you're a veteran interested in enrolling in New Horizons (NH) 4-month IT course! This review is unbiased and based on my experience at NH.

1) Unrealistic expectations - The bottom line up front is that unless you have a solid IT background YOU WILL NOT COMPLETE ALL 8 CERTIFICATIONS IN 4 MONTHS! It is extremely hard and I need to emphasize that right away. Our class completed the 4-month course and maybe 2-3 veterans have at least ONE certification. Many veterans in my class were misguided. Nardo Perez makes it seems like you can complete the course in 4 months but that is unrealistic without a SOLID IT BACKGROUND.

2) Recruiting methods - During my first meeting with Nardo Perez, he said students find employment starting at $60K-$70K with two certifications. This is completely UNREALISTIC. Our instructor emphasized that WITHOUT IT EXPERIENCE you will find a $40K IT job with ONE or TWO certifications at best. Nardo Perez said 90% of veterans are placed back into the federal workforce yet 2-3 veterans out of around 15 obtained certificates. Does that seem like 90% of veterans are ready to work?

3) G.I. Bill - My fellow veterans please know the G.I. Bill usage policy. NH will use 12 MONTHS OF YOUR GI BILL in 4 months. They can explain why this is so. I just want you all the know this because at least 2 veterans in my class found this out three months into the course. Once again, they said they were misguided. It seems like NH and its staff let you down.

4) TestOut - TestOut is a program that students use to prepare for their exams. During the Microsoft and Cisco portions of the course, students were basically following the instructor's commands with no material to reference to. In other words, there was no "student guide" or course outline to follow. All in all, TestOut was used 1.5 out of the 4 months in class.

5) Instructor - Luis Barreiros was our instructor for 3.5 months. He is extremely knowledgeable and has many years of IT experience. However, Luis Barreiros often divulged in topics that were not relevant to the class resulting in a disruptive learning environment. For example, a 30-minute lecture on the history of IBM or importance of saving emails. As a result, a number of veterans were not actively participating in class after 2 months. The bottom line is that Luis Barreiros needs to stay on topic like Moose and Luis Rios did.

6) Outcome - Most veterans felt cheated out of their money and were completely dissatisfied with this course. Notice I said most not all. Also, a number of veterans stopped coming to school at the half way point. Based on the factors previously mentioned, you can determine why this may be so. I am writing this review as constructive criticism. I am by no means trying to deter any veterans from enrolling in this course but I AM raising awareness.
The bottom line is that NH needs to maintain their expectations realistic and they did not. Therefore, I am here to CLARIFY misinformation so that my fellow veterans can make an informed decision.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Harassment, Defamation of character

Recently was employed/involved through this non-profit organization until an incident occurred which led to a voluntary separation. The follow up investigation, which there was none, was one-sided, deliberately hostile and unfair, and more importantly bordering legal statutes within the state in which this organization resides. Beware of this non-profit organization, both in volunteering or becoming employed or associated with this organization due to its clouded, and hasty judgement in management and direction. This organization's management is very top heavy and the Board of Directors are all family related or "friend" associated. There is favoritism, nepotism, and harassment within this organization. Their mission is a wonderful mission that truly helps the community in which they reside in however, their internal management and infrastructure is very weak, narrow minded, and questionable practices in how they treat their volunteers and employees.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers A Total Rip Off

I'm out over $6.000 and nothing to show for it. So many things wrong with this company I can't believe I wasted my time and money. Money I now need to try and better educate myself elsewhere. The mentor learning classroom what a joke. The instructor in the class knows nothing about what I was studying, when asked a question his answer was "I don't know anything about what your taking you need to ask so and so and he's in Oklahoma or Fort Worth or in On Line Learning this week". There are so many distractions allowed in the mentor learning classroom there is no way you can study your lessons at all. Morning class if on a Monday you can't hear your lesson on the computer because of the group talking about their partying from the weekend and the instructor does nothing to stop the disruption. A student is allowed to bring into class a bag from McDonalds and shove 4 or 5 pies into his face and we have to sit there and listen to him scarf them down while the instructor does nothing. Then after about an hour this student crashes from his pie high and falls asleep in class and starts snoring and the instructor does nothing but sit there and sip his tea or coffee. Why do they have a lunch room or break room if you can eat in class and make noise. My lessons wouldn't even come up on the computer or would just lock up in the middle of a lesson, same for the labs I was suppose to do and virtual machines wouldn't even load. Students using up the band width by checking their yahoo e-mail and replying to them for 3 hours instead of studying, or looking through the jewelry section of the on-line JCPenny's catalog, but I really think it could have been from the students watching music video's on you tube with the music so loud that I could hear it over my own headphones, and the instructors do nothing but sit there or run around the hall ways. When I was able to talk with an instructor I'm told the certification exam I have to take covers more material than what they provided to me. In other words the material they gave me to learn was not good enough to be able to get my certifications. I needed to go to outside resources and spend more money in order to be able to pass the exams. DO NOT WAISTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS COMPANY. Go to the book store and spend your money on the exam study books to pass the exams you'll be money ahead and more knowledgeable. When I was last there they were losing instructors, who knows if they were getting laid off, fired, or moving on to better pastures. When I wanted to talk with my counsler he wasn't on campus so I was told, job placement is a joke they talk about all these companies that hire students from them but when I gave my counsler my resume he didn't even know what to do with it. I was told he gave it to a co-worker to go over and they would get back with me, well 3 months later no one has called me concerning my resume.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Non-delivery of training already paid for

I enrolled and paid for website development training with New Horizons on 26/07/2010 and have been promised for the past 11 months that training will be scheduled. I have been given many excuses that their Rosebank branch has closed down and that the training will have to be rescheduled elsewhere. I have been dealing with an "Account Executive" called Pieter who keeps promising to return my calls and who keeps promising to send me an email with the dates for training. He does not return any of my calls and has not sent me any emails to schedule the training. I have tried to speak to the "Head" of the institution, one Mr Gabriel Verhoef who is never available and who also does not return my calls. When I ask Pieter to put me through to Gabriel Verhoef he always says that he is not available. I have also asked that another account executive be assigned to deal with this but Pieter has refused.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers unsafe and hazardous conditions

To whom it may concern:
My name is Talena Mitchell and I’ am a former employee of the Hilton Garden Inn, Located at 2035 Aerotech drive, Colorado Springs Colorado, 80910.
The reason for this letter is to file a complaint against the company and see if we as a community can bring safety and awareness to the establishment. I began employment there 6-10-10 and my employment ended 5-10-11. In this time I have seen this company do some hazard and unsanitary things. I had to contact OSHA on or around 5-02-11 because the company was no longer ordering proper supplies from our vendors because the company was going through financial burdens. Because of those reason other employees including myself were forced to pour a hazard chemical (bleach) manually into our washing machines. My reason for calling OSHA was because the General Manager was informed by my self and my former co- worker about the danger of pouring bleach above our heads. Her response was, “that is dangerous”, and she left the matter alone and we had to continue to pour the bleach with no protective gear. My former co- worker and I were at work on or about 5-1-11 and my co- worker spilled bleach on the front of her shirt and face and it almost got in her eyes, so I proceeded to the eye wash station to turn it on for her to clean the splatter of her face and make sure it did not get in her eye, and the eye wash station was very dirty and dusty and it did not have any solution or water in it what so ever. I felt like at that point enough is enough and something must be done before someone gets hurts. I called OSHA and they did contact The Company and gave The Hilton Garden Inn five days to try and resolve the situation and send the proper documentation proving the problem has been rectified.
Then On 5-6-11 One of the guest called to the office to inform them that he had been bitten by a bed bug. I worked in the laundry room so the Executive House keeper came in the laundry to inform me of the infestation and told me to be aware and look at the linen closely for preventive measures. The General Manager then come into the laundry shortly after that and yelled at the executive housekeeper for informing me of the infestation because I asked the General Manager about the infestation and wanted to know what measures they were going to take to fix the problem, especially because I deal with all the linen and I have small children at home and needed to be cautious, I have knowledge of how bad the epidemic of Bed bugs are in Colorado how easily they can be spread. I ended up terminating myself from the Hilton Garden Inn because everyday I felt there was some safety violation and my health was in serious danger. I also took pictures of the Black mold that is located in the linen drop closet in the laundry room. We requested that be taken care of over a year ago because of the frequent exposure. A former supervisor by the name of Mary Ann also witnessed the mold over a year ago and put in a request for maintenance to apply Kills to the mold and the General Manager Patricia Victor at that time was suppose to get someone to come out and cut the dry wall out and replace it. At this time nothing has been done and the mold is still in the closet and growing up the wall. I also know that at the time of the Bed bug incident I was still employed and the mattress still remained in the room and not properly disposed of. From my understanding the mattress still is in the room after the reported Bite from the guest and NOT ONLY DID THE ROOM NOT GET FUMIGATED PROPERLY, THE GENERAL MANAGER IS STILL RENTING OUT THE ROOM TO OTHER GUEST. I also know there has been another report of a bed bug bite on or around 5-15-11. I still have former co-workers that I have grown to respect and work hard and can’t leave the job because their options are very limited. I still feel as though because I was fortunate enough to get out of the situation that everyone isn’t and it’s not fair for all the employees of the Hilton Garden Inn be treated unfair and constantly put in dangerous situations because they are less fortunate. I’m sure this is not the first or the last complaint you have for the Hilton Garden Inn Colorado springs but I would really appreciate if someone would please just take a closer look at this company and see the health violations that both the employees and guest are subjected to on a day to day basis. It also came to my attention that someone else since I have not been in the facility has reported a bed bug bite and still nothing has been done to contain the infestation. To whom it may concern again I no longer work for the company but there are still mothers with families and guest with families that I feel should not be subjected to filth for personal gain. On my last day of employment The General manager had 12 rooms out of order because of the infestation and since then has rented those rooms to guest without proper fumigation. From my understanding the Owner by the name of Slavic last name unknown has been informed also of all the negligence in the Hotel and he in turn has done nothing. With more investigation of the facility I have found documents stating that one of the owner’s of New Horizons LLC who carries the Hilton name has been charged with exposing guest and other employees to Asbestos in a sister company The Holiday Inn, In Fresno Colorado. I can see violations and health hazards my self personally and I’m not a qualified inspector but I can recognize when my health and the health of others are in danger. I must say when I started working for the company things were a little more structured and recently I have watched the company go into debt or act as if the company is in debt and since 01-01-11 I have watched the company take major short cuts and do things not of Hilton brand or standard. I have been in the laundry room where there was no money for supplies (laundry detergent and bleach) and we were required to continue to wash the linen. I can say that has happened twice and I haven’t seen it happen in a while but that is just one of the many examples of what kind of business The Hilton Garden Inn is now. I feel as though the company only follows the guidelines of a safe and clean hotel when the Hotel is due for Inspection. I have experienced an inspection with the company and I know there was forged paper work because things were not being done by the former Executive House keeper and the General Manager let it go on all the way up until inspection. In turn the former Executive house keeper was fired for her negligence and, The Executive house keeper now was hired on the clean up the mess before the inspection along with me and a few other former employees. I submitted some pics to give you an example of how the mold looks in the linen closet in the laundry room, how shampoo and conditioner is stored and how there is a crate full of used shampoo and conditioner that gets refilled from other have used bottles and placed back in the rooms for other guest, how we were manually pouring bleach and a picture of the washing machine and how the product for the machining is missing.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Rude and unwilling

I work for a large church and am the Executive Director of one of its Ministry's. Approximatly April the 25th I went into the store and purchased several items including item #44125 a outside light. Approximatly 4 weeks went by and we used everything and decided that the light was not the correct one we needed. I was going to run down to the Lowe's and exchange it for the correct one. I was told I would have to wait for the manager on duty and waited for about 15 to 20 minutes for him to arrive. When he did show up he was rude and I proceeded to tell him that all I wanted to do was exchange the light brand new still in the box so I could get the correct one. He ask me when I bought it and I told him about when it was purchased and that it was paid for by check. He proceeded to tell me that he had looked and that light was not purchased at that time and he did not believe I purchashed that light from his store. The box has the store number right on it and he never walked over to a computer to look at anything. He proceeded to tell me he was not going to do anything for me. In short Lowes has lost my business forever Darell Adams Owensboro Kentucky.

I was fired for complaining of harassment. There were no avenues set in place for this, so I just got kicked out for having a big mouth, and being too capable.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Unprofessionalism

Two things to watch out before you sign anything with them:
1. Lunch is not included. The brochure shows that the price is "With Lunch", but in fact, you have to pay for yourself.
2. The deposit can only be used at the end of the year, i.e. June. This means that once you pay the deposit, you're bound for one year. Try some other school/day dare, where you can get your deposit back in 2 weeks or one month advanced notice if you don't like them. How many one year your child have for pre-school?

=======The following is my experience===================
My son would start afternoon session there with lunch via school bus after morning session from other school. It's till the first day that Mrs. Syed told me that the lunch is not included. That is not what she said when I paid the deposit. OK, then I'm bound for one year because the full month deposit can only be used for the last month "tuituion". But then my son was there at 11:45 AM, 15 minutes after their 11:30 am lunch time, he ended up eating the lunch, i.e. banana or biscuit by the playground because most of the kids and the teachers are there. He always came home hungry because he did not have proper lunch during the lunch hour.

We tried for the whole month of March, 2009. But he still did NOT a lunch for the whole month. We tried to use the deposit as tuition for April, 2009. On the morning of4/2/2009, I've received e-mail from Mr. Syed, saying that "...we wont have anybody at the roadside to receive him”. What if I did not check my personal yahoo mail account, a 4-year-old, unable-to-speak child would be left unattended on the roadside. Note that there is a 5-day grace period for the monthly tuition. This endanger-child-welfare, money-oriented behavior really helped us decide not to continue sending him to the school.

new horizon even post on craiglist to capture prospective students and sell their programs ranges from 3 week to 8 week, of which course load should at least take a semester to study and lab experience. getting certified of several skills through their programs in 3 week sounded too good to be true. New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Fraudster and cheater

I also experienced scam tactics from this so called school. I should've realized it at the time but I guess I was just naive to sales tactics. I was 'cold' called at work about this wonderful institution. I though maybe they got my name from someone at Miami-Dade College but now I realize they probably were just calling from a phone book and asking for someone in management. I went in, looked over the courses, applied for student loans and when I was approved for the loan I signed up for the courses. I never saw a dime of the money and they must have signed me up in advance for over $18, 000 in courses.

Probably 1/3 of the way through, I realized that this was bogus. The courses ran no more than 5 days per course. The teaching was laughable. We should have been taking these classes in semester loads with hands on training and so forth. Even the A+ class was taught in 5 days. When I realized it, I asked for my money back and was refused. When I contacted Sallie Mae, they didn't care. They paid New Horizons in full, for classes that hadn't even been taken yet and as far as they were concerned it was my problem. What a scam.

well i've attend and not been happy with new horizons. their counselors are all about the sale of the classes; not helping with jobs, or letting you know about what examines. i found out during a class; that the program i was in had several exams i could take. this was never discussed with my counselor, she never offered this information until after i emailed her and told her i heard about it thru the online teacher. talk about just gettig a paycheck thats all their counselors do. i've had one job link sent to me in the last year, and i'm finishing up my second program. that was the worst mistake and worst way to spend grant money.
by the way the program illuminate that brings up the live video also sucks. have the time the teachers voice sounds like she has been sucking on helium, or you lose video of her.

you may reach out to the Commission for Independent Education. If you don't have their information, do a google. This is the oversight board for all schools privately owned with the State of Florida. Their is a refund point that must be achieved. Also, I have heard that they sell you Instructor Led Courses and then provide Computer Based Training or Mentored Learning. Look at your contract to see what you signed up for. If it was for Instructor Led and they provided Mentored Learning then you have a case. Good Luck!

they took over our property in the fall it is up for power of sale they are very ignorant people they wouldnt even give us a chance were trying to refinance with another broker to get our house back they want us to take all our contents out of the house there only giving us 2 days to remove 25 years of stuff were charged an intrest rate of 14.99% monthly payments were intrest only we ran into some financial diffuculty and one thing lead to another now we need an appraisal done and we need acsess into the property and i dont know if there going to let us go into the house if we dont get everything out in 2 days there throwing our stuff out very rude and ignorant people wouldnt recommend them to noone unless you want to loose your house

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Money Taken

This was an awful experience for us and my daughter who is learning how to drive. Our money was taken and services not rendered. Our telephone calls were ignored and screaned and now we are out close to $200.00. Please beware of this driving school.

New Horizons contracted work. The work was completed and approved by New Horizons of Albany's client. New Horizons was invoiced in September 2016. To date they have paid less than half of the amount owed. They make minimal attempt to pay and only do so after numerous phone calls and emails.
