I handled a bill on behalf my husband mentioning that he owes PSEG utility company which we never dealt or even heard of. Then NRA staff said PSEG was the replacement of National Grid NY which I did paid the last bill already. We sent the proof and payment and still searching on web what is PSEG. Finally we found out that PSEG was the replacement for LIPA instead of National Grid. We realized never got any last bill from LIPA since moving and there is no excuse they missed our new address cause we forwarding our mail for the whole 1 year. And there was no letter from NRA either. I asked NRA to sent the letter again but my request was not accepted since I need to see the real bill. Contact PSEG to confirm the amount was $ 37.42 as the same NRA mentioned. Just to fix the credit score, I called NRA to pay and confirm the total amount remain the same. I gave all the debit account information and once completed, suddenly she said I have to pay the fee. She supposed to say about the fee from the beginning before wasting my time even further since I have the option to mail the check to waive the fee. When I decide to choose the second option, that female staff turn to be unfriendly. Unwillingness to give the address I could send the check till I have to insist it and then she just hang up. What a waste of time dealing with unprofessional staff.

fraudulent collection call
Received a call on my cell phone stating I had charged off a credit card 14 years ago and that they were seeking restitution on it now...I still have the only credit card I had 14 years ago and have never had the card they stated I had. They had the last 4 digits of my social security number and said if I didn't want to pay my debts that they would sue me through the government taxes 1099c form...they yelled at me and argued with me, trying to get me to pay them a settlement over the phone. I told them that it was a mistake I never carried a credit card with CHASE or BANK ONE...they yelled at me and hung up on me. I called back and got the manager's name: Lisa...John Haddad was the one who made the original call.

I got a call from National Recovery Agency a couple months back by a rude lady named Diane, saying i owed the lottery $700 from 2005! She stated they had my address and telephone number from 2005, and that the state lottery was their client, who supposedly said i owed tax from lottery tickets purchased in my name from a store. First of all, I've never owned a store, worked in a retail store, or have had any family that owned a store. Second of all, there's no way to owe tax on lottery tickets purchased in bulk when you BUY them! I explained all this to her, as well as i was not the person who purchased these tickets. It was obviously identity theft and she wouldn't give me any information except that the lottery was there client. I got in contact wit the state lottery myself, and they said it was a fraud and that i was not the first person to call about it. This company is a FRAUD and full of ###! After i let Diane know this and that she wasn't getting a dime from me, i told her to have a nice F#@%ing day and she hung up. I'm filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and whoever else I can.

I have two lines on my credit report that should not be there, and I've been unable to get them removed. One is West Bay Acquisitions, placed by National Recovery. This is (I think) for a statement from Science Fiction Book Club, and this account was paid in full around a year ago. It was not being handled by either West Bay Acquisitions or National Recovery when I paid it. The other is something on my credit report from National Recovery that says the original creditor was Hamilton Authenticated. I have no idea what this could be. I have never received any bills from either company with an explanation of what this is about. It says I owe $95, but for what? I haven't purchased anything that i haven't paid cash for in years. At the very least, this debt would have to go back six or seven years. I honestly don't know what it is, or why it is on there, or even if they have the correct Donna Arthur. I want National Recovery to go away, and to stop putting erroneous information on my credit report.

false charge (s) - damaging credit for fictitious collection
NRA calls today claiming I owe $94.12 for an order I placed with Columbia House March 27, 2005. I call Columbia House, spoke to a Rep. who looked up my account. Columbia House has no record of any orders I did not pay for. The last time I ordered anything from Columbia house was 6 years ago, and I've only ordered a couple items - no contract where I had to buy add'l items. I asked NRA to send me the information of what I owe what for, they said they couldn't, only that I have to pay them. When I told them they are a scam they got their panties in a bunch and started to yell before they hung up on me. A year ago they said I owed $98.00 for an actual item, now they say its $94.12 for a commitment to buy additional products. They've already put the $98 on my credit report, next will be the $94.12. Is there anyway to stop these guys, especially from the gullible that would actually send them money?
Ask yourself: Do I have a contract obligation of any kinf to pay money to this debt collection company?

You need to sue them in Federal Court for violating the FDCPA, FCRA and your civil rights.
What is the Statute of Limitations to attempt to collect a debt in your state, I bet it is expired- unless you are in Rhode Island or Ohio.

fraudulant charges placed on my credit
In January '11 discovered I had something on my credit by accident, cheking my credit score. West Bay Aquisitions/National Recovery Agency placed a negetive on my credit for an account I never had, and was never billed for, nor received any products.
I requested and inquiry for which I am told I will have to prove I didnt live at certain address at the time of the account or I will still have to pay for the account even if someone else opened it under my name. I did live at the address during the time of the acount, back in August '09. I lived there for one year but didnt purchase anything from them, and never recieved a bill during that year. Whats up with that? Now I have to prove its not my account? I know times are tough ppl, but this is FRAUD! I have talked to NRA and when I accused them of fraud the lady asked me if I had reported them to the police. lol. Not yet, but I plan to seek every avenue available to me.

Does anybody have any information on how 'victims of harassment" can legally fight company's such as National Recovery Agency and Portfolio Recovery Associates. Of course they will never send any proof or validation of the alleged debt and continue the harassment. I record every conversation, don't get mad anymore...just want to get even! I want to gather resources and information from people (victims) on how we can bring these company's to there knees.

If they do send you a Summons, check their affidavit especially if they are in New York. New York requires the emboss seal to appear on all legal documents by Notaries. What is the emboss seal? It is the indentation you see when you get a copy, or it may be the round stamp with the date of the notary's commission expiration and their state number, which includes the state in which the notary has the commission.

The FBI will not contact you with a telephone call with a bad debt. It is best to contact the FBI and file a complaint with this scammer. Also you need for these people to verify that the debt is your debt. They have 30 business days to do so if they are a legimate business. Business days are Monday through Friday, but excludes weekends and legal holidays that fall in the weekdays. If they say that they are in INDIA then they have to follow U. S. Laws when working with a U. S. Bank and all this falls under Secret Service too. If by the end of your 30 days, you have not received anything from these people then send them a cease and desist letter. Send it certified mail so they have to sign for the letter. You keep the green mail card when the post office delivers it back to you. Also make a copy of all your letters.
moodf, you should mind your own business. Sometimes people do not owe collections anything. Especially if it was something from GECC, because they don't know how to post account properly. They are fixing to be sued for just that.
pay ya bills and collection companies wont contact you . i work for a collection company .. and have been doing so for years.. this is how it works ... when u receive something without paying for it ... or stop making your adjusted payments, what happens is the creditor, then hires companies like these to collect they're monies ... it is not the collection agency that is in fault ... it is the debtors fault for not paying the bill .. before hand, , , we just have a job to do ... and we r being paid to do it ... i love collections ... and i will continue to get the payments and get the clients monies @!

Send this company a cease and desist letter via certified return mail. The post office will send you a card back letting you know it was delivered. You'll have proof. I am forever sending these out. Also if you get one from another collection agency for the same bill, write them and tell them they are in violation of a cease and desist letter.
In your original cease and desist letter make sure you tell them that they are not to send to or make for resale to any other collection agency.
When you get this next one, you'll be glad you sent the original, because I have one on my desk right now that violates a cease and desist.
never recieved any item from this company
I have never gotten anything from this company. And on my credit report it says I owe $57.00 for something I never recieved. How do I get this off of my credit report because I didn't get anything from this company and I should not have to pay for something I never got.
I was just made aware today that there is an outstanding debt against me with this questionable company, as for $79.00.
It just cost me a loan approval. I hope there is someone out there who has the knowledge and the power to help me and go after these people.

I got a letter from the "Wonderful" company, stating that I owed the 50.54. I do not owe this amount. They state that it is a bill from BMG Music Services. I have NEVER had an account with this company. When I call in to let then know that I have never had an account they right away want me to give them my informaiton. They want my address and phone #. Why should I have to give them this information. The best part is when this bill was accured I had a different last name and I lived at a differnet address. So How is it they have now found me, But yet they want me to tell them all my personal info. Come on something needs to be done..

In 2009 I received a call from a very rude woman stating that I owed a company money for something I never ordered. All she wanted was my credit card information, and I told her that I never even ordered anything from them. She hung up on me. I never thought anything about it until it showed up on my credit report. These people are very unprofessional, and are scam artists. They won't take off the charges either. On top of all this, they don't even have an up to date phone number. I was trying to contact them, and this is how I found this site that is full of complaints stating the very same thing.

National Recovery claimed that I owed $46.88 for a Stephen King Library that I never received. The letter had my name spelled incorrectly. They were belligerent on the phone and then ask how I would like to pay. Also lowered my credit score.
Same as all the others...received a letter out of the blue that stating I owe Doubleday Book Club [protected]) money for not fulfilling my agreement. Letter was from NRA. The letter stated two different amounts of money owed ($96.65 and $72.96) and also stated I could pay and then get vouchers to get the actual books. This seemed strange so I called NRA. The gentlemen that answered (Albert) could only state that I opened the account in April 10 but could not provide any other details about the debt or contact information for DBC, who is their client. He said I should "google" them. This seemed even stranger. I looked up NRA and saw all the complaints...so many similar to mine in addition to complaints about harrassment and Fair Debt Collection Act violations. I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and Better Business Bureau (which has over 200 complaints about NRA in the last 12 months). Also found over 40 active federal lawsuits against them. I faxed NRA a letter stating that I dispute the charges, what I found on the internet and the complaints I filed. I also checked my credit reports (luckily not on them) and contacted Doubleday. Doubleday did not have email or phone listed but had a customer online form, which I filled out. DBC also gave me the run around, asking for information that was in the email traffic or fishing for information (ie "Did you ever live in xxx city/state?) and I went back and forth several times. I asked to see proof of an account or documentation which showed that I signed up for the account but they could never produce. I finally received an email stating that the account has been deleted and request for payment is been dropped. I will be saving that email! Good luck!
They called me stating that I owe $81.04 to One Spirit for a purchase I made on 11-23-2010 a few weeks ago (which doesn't make sense). I told them I have not ordered anything from One Spirit and that this was fraud. I asked them to give me all the information they had regarding this purchase and they said all they had was One Spirit. I took down their name and phone number and googled them quickly and not to my surprise 100 complaints popped up. I called them back and they answered "HELLO" not this is National Recovery Agency, I began to question them again they hung up on me. I quickly contacted One Spirit via e-mail with my concerns and complaints and reported National Recovery Agency to the Federal Trade Commission. BEWARE THIS COMPANY IS A FRAUD!

I received a debit recovery letter from national recovery agency dated 2/16/2011 claiming false charges from marshall emergency physic (Sic) for $158.00 for services allegedly performed on 12/14/1998. I have no knowledge of the origional account, or even marshall emergency physic (I am assuming the last word is physicians) and national recovery agency would not provide any information pertaining to the account or it's originators. This has not yet shown up on my credit report, ever, so this is either mistaken identity or outright fraud.

I have been receiving calls from the NRA Collection Agency regarding an alleged debt that they say I owe for Columbia House. I have asked for validation of this debt in writing and am told the company does NOT send out any written correspondence, yet the company does send this to the various Collection Reporting Agencies and it is impossible to have this alleged debt removed from my credit report.

OMG someone please tell me how to get these idiots to stop calling me! In 2006 my daughter had her tonsils out. Our anesthesia bill was more then $1500. I was paying as much as I could on a monthly basis. Because I never set up a payment account, they sent me to collections. In 2008, I received a statement from them and paid what left on the balance which was $310. This year I have now started receiving phone calls that I owe them $190 for this account. I have repeatedly ask them to send me a statement stating that I owe them money. The last manager said they are not allowed to send me another statement! WHAT? I have talked to countless "managers" who have told me they will put in a request and have a statement sent. I have yet to receive one. Today I received a call and of course spoke to another manager, who was an ###. He told me that because they sent me a statement in 2008 (4 YEARS AGO) that they were not required by law to send me another one. I think this is a big fat scam! This bill was paid in full, but now all of a sudden after more than two years I owe them more money! Does anyone know how to help me in this situation? I totally think that I am being scamed. Help!

false charge - damaging credit for fictitious collection
In 2008, National Recovery Agency filed for collection against me for $140, claiming I had purchased something from Columbia House (movies?) in 2004 from an old address of mine ... 3 years after I had moved away from there. NRA absolutely refuses to display or accept common sense in the matter. I contacted Columbia House (which cannot be reached by telephone anymore, btw) and they had no outstanding debt in my name.
NRA continued to harass me and caused significant damage to my credit report over this amount, yet they could not produce a shred of evidence or documentation to prove that I owed anything at all. I successfully had the collection removed from my credit report based on the conflict in dates and lack of evidence. This claim was DENIED and could not be placed on my report again. So what did NRA do? They turned around in December 2009 and filed a new claim for $71 (half the original amount) and then had the nerve to claim this was a "new" collection and therefore valid. If that isn't cheating, I don't know what is! The rules say you can't put the claim again, so they changed the amount to pretend it's a "new" claim. What utter nonsense!
Can anyone recommend to me a governing body or federal office that can overrule NRA or force them to remove this garbage from my report? This is still affecting me to this day in my ability to get new credit. Experian is acting like total pu$$! in the matter and saying there's nothing they can do because ... get this ... only the agency trying to STEAL money from you can call back in and remove the claim. OF COURSE NRA IS GOING TO LIE AND SAY IT'S A VALID CLAIM! THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO GAIN BY STEALING A LITTLE MONEY FROM EVERYONE THEY CAN!

NRA has been calling my home phone every day for the past two (2) weeks telling me that i owe Brookdale Medical Hospital one hundred seventy ($170.00) dollars for service rendered on 10-02-2008. They told me the bill was for ambulatory service which i did not used on the date in question.
I received a bill from company in 08/2010 from a health networks bill dated 08/2009 for 425. spoke to them every day since I called them to ask more info and then to inform them It is not my bill. They call every day in early morning and we always ask them to send original bill so we can verify the charge and everyday they get nasty and insist I need to psy now or a judgement will be put agaisnt me plus fines and costs. No bill has come. horrible business practices
As of today August 6, 2014 this company is called Allied Intrastate Collections and is a debt collector. I know this because they called my cell phone today. I also received a letter from them today ironically saying that eBay who I owed money had charged off my account and sent it to them for collections. They are Legit as far as I am concerned because I did owe eBay $155 and they did threaten that would be sending my account to collections.
You can also file a dispute claim with all three credit reporting agencies. then they will research the claim and if found to be untrue, it will come off your credit report.

false charges for a music club
My credit report states that I owe money to a company called National Recovery Agency in Paxton Pa, and the account was opened in 8/2009. I called them and they stated that I bought 36 cd's in 2006. The address they had on file was not me, and I advised them of that. They said I need a police report saying it was not me. Look at complaint board under Music service club, you'll see all the complaints about this on that site too. I think we all should have a class action suit against this company. I also noticed that someone said to call the FTC on this complaint I did, but they want a police report to add to it as well. I wrote a letter to Experien and will advise back if I hear anything. This is ridiculous.

This NRA National Recovery Agency [protected] has been calling my cell phone for about two months now asking for someone other than myself. I have told them each time that they have the wrong phone number and to remove my number from their list. The people have just simply hung up on me. I called them back and informed them that they had the wrong number and again was hung up on. They called me yesterday and I again informed them they had the wrong number and was hung up on. This morning as I was searching a way to complain they called again! I asked for the name of the company and was told NRA and when I asked for a business address the guy, Carlos, hung up on me. I called the number and spoke to another gentleman, Daniel, and informed him that I have told them numerous times they have the wrong number and requested them to stop calling me. I told him about the previous phone call and that I was now filing a complaint and going to pursue legal action. He informed he that he was removing my number from the list but it could take 15 to 30 days. I informed him that that should have been done within the first 5 times they were told they had the wrong number! I told him they had better put a note on whomever's account it is not to call my number as it is wrong. I informed him that Arizona has a record for being tough on harrassment of collection agencies and is sure to be worse when they are harrassing the wrong person. He apologized for the phone calls and unprofessional conduct of the previous callers and assurred me my number would be removed from their call list. I did a Google search on the number, [protected], and it seems that this NRA is a shady collection agency attempting to collect on fictitious debts!
They are calling my 86 year old mother saying that I gave them her number, and then tell her to have ME call them back. She is on the do not call list, so there's nothing else to do except to report them. It's a Mrs. Gozalez that calls her. If it was my phone they were calling, I'd just not answer it, but Mom answers the phone every time it rings.
I was told that if I call them back, that then gives them permission to call my phone repeatedly. Such a nuisance. I will use one of the above numbers to call their General Counsel. Thank you for posting those "pickedthewrongguytomesswith" ! It seems they DID ! Thank you !

I'm having the exact same problem, fortunately the calls are on my new landline number and not on my cell... I feel for you. Have you registered your cell # with the no call registry? It might help, but does seem to move slow...
soliciting scam
They are soliciting me via my cell phone to pay them $30+ for a CD that apparently I ordered back in November of 2007 from the Latin Club. I asked for information regarding the order but they were unable to provide it for me. I never heard of or belonged to the Latin Club and most certainly didn't order any CD's from them.

Calls everyday like clockwork at work! When I pick up it's a automated operator telling me to hold a rep will be right with me. Whoever it is for whatever purpose does not need to harrass me at work. If I have an unpaid medical bill...believe me it;s not my credit report. If I had the funds to pay it I would! They need to realize that people are having a hard time keeping their homes let alone pay off every small or large debt the owe. I'm paying on a few things that completely wipes me out with my recent paycut. Thank God I'm still employed!
I too have been getting collection calls and invoices stating I owe Columbia House $98. I called Columbia House, I owe them nothing. I paid them for an order I placed with them over 5 years ago. These people want me to get a letter from Columbia House showing I don't owe them and they did not put me in collections. I told these scammers to send me proof I owe the $98, they say it's not their responsibility and to just send them the $98. So I end up wasting my time dealing with these people? Something should be done to put these creeps away, or at least stop them from harassing us and giving them the authority to put a debt that isn't even ours on our credit report!

I just ran my credit reports. I noticed on each one a collections account from this place. On one it names Direct Brands Inc. and on the other two it states National Recovery Agency on behalf of BMG.
Okay I have never had a account with BMG. Soooo I Googled to see if I could bet a number for BMG directly and guess what? They went out of business in 2007 and conveniently these charges showed up on my credit as being open in 2007. Doesn't make any sense to me either. I believe both collections companies are attempting to collect for the same debit as well.
Upon reading the posts on both companies it seems pointless to contact them as they are more than likely oh so positive I made the charges, never mind that my husbands ex-wife an I share almost the same name and she has notoriously put my name down for everything from phone bills to medical offices all across the western sea board. (I think this time though she didn't know our number or address and therefore we have received no calls or letters of collection. )
So I have gone straight to disputing the charges with the credit reporting agencies as well as filed a complaint with the FTC.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

Apparently the company had revenues of $30 million last year and describe themselves as a "responsible revenue recovery agency". The Kusics play themselves off as a local do-gooder couple and spread some of their $30 million around to local charities - maybe to make themselves feel better for the intentional damage they're causing elselwhere. mistaken Identity
Last night at 01:30, yes 1:30 in the morning, I received a call from Jenna
(sp?) from the National Recovery Agency.
It was one of those automated calls, when Jenna picked up and I got the, this
call is being recorded advisement, and discovered it was a debt collector
calling. She asked if I was aware I owed Columbia House $65 for a debt
dating back to April 2009. I advised that I did not do business with
Columbia House, and that it was 1:30 in the morning... After a "polite"
conversation, I asked that she remove my number from this
debt. She said, I would have to mail in a cease and desist letter, and her
final statement was along the lines of, "you know these calls are going to
continue until this is settled."
So this morning, after checking report, I called the National Recovery
Agency. The gentleman I talked to was nice enough. He sounded very
surprised I got a call at 01:30, and even said we don't do that (call late at night). It seems
the issue may have been the computer system that calls cannot recognize
international numbers --- thought it was calling a 656 area code in the US vice my overseas home phone? He
found the debt in question by looking up my home number as a US number (XXX)
XXX XXXX. He said he would remove my number from the query. I asked how
he got the number, and it was not a matter he wanted to discuss. But I did discover the individual who supposedly had the debt had a similar but not identical name to mine.
National Recovery needs to update there computer system AND agent procedure to ensure calls at not made overseasalte at night.
I also wonder how they found my overseas number and mistakeningly tied it to someone in the US with a similar name and mistook my international number for an area code (656) which appears to not even exist.
