Harrassment
Complaint Rating: 0 % with 0 votes
Company information:
Oshkosh, Wisconsin
United States

I have received at least 20 phone calls per day at my work and home phone threatening me that if I don't pay a past due bill they will take me to court and will have an investigating officer come to my work. I must pay this bill right away. Steve Carter (the chief investigating officer) called my boss at work and myself even when told personal phone calls were not allowed, and to contact me by mail. He was asked to supply information about the bill several times by mail, and he refused. He would just threaten me again that an investigating officer would be coming to my work. This $300 bill must be paid immediately, or I would be arrested and taken in to court.

I asked for an address and his name so I could send in writing him a letter. He refused. He said I was the person under investigation, not him.

Steve Carter had a strange accent. I am not even sure if this company is in the United States. Or legal at all. How can you charge someone with harrassment, when you cant even find where they work?

Google "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" and learn your rights. This guy is in serious violation, and that's even IF you actually owe this debt; it could be a scam. They CANNOT have you arrested. Do you have caller ID at home? Or have they ever left a phone number? You can try to find out who the phone number belongs to.
A legitimate collection agency will give you their address, and will supply information about the original debt. Just keep track of their calls and their refusals to obey the law.

Meanwhile, tell your boss that what these people are doing is highly illegal. Your employer should not blame you for this.

I myself have now received two phone calls from this company identifying themselves as National Affidavid processing Services the calls are coming from a gentleman calling himself Steve Carter, they are listed as being located in Ithica, NY 101 E. Green St. to be exact.

Be aware that this company is a Scam do not give them any information. They don't have your information they are hoping to scare you into validating your address, bank information, ssn, etc.

They prey on people who have taken out or requested internet loans, if they give you the name of the company they are supposedly taking legal action for then call that company verify with them and the ask to speak with their Fraud Department, these payday loan companies will verify that they don't take legal action as it is agaist the Payday Loan Reform Act for them to sue anyone, and be sure to call your credit agencys and let them know that if any peculicar information shows up from this company that it is fraud.

I record my conversations as I have learned to do over the years, any threats are against the FDCPA guidelines and if you can in fact find an address you can take legal action against the company for violation of the laws. www.ftc.gov. Don't let these people intimidate you, if they call you back let them know that you are aware that they are a fraud and then call your Local FBI and file a fraud complaint.
