Mr. Rooter Ignoring Residential Customer

People removing mold from my basement accidentally cut a water line in one of the walls. They had to shut off the water to the house. This was about 2:00pm. I called Mr. Rooter at around 2:00pm. I told them the water to my entire house was turned off, which they wrote down on the work order. They told me someone would be here by 3:30pm. 3:30pm came and went, and no Mr. Rooter. At 3:50pm I called Mr. Rooter. The girl who answered my call was very perky and told me that an emergency with one of their Commercial Customers outside of Mankato had come up and no one was available to work on my house. She said she was just going to call me (yeah, I'll bet!). She said she would check and that I would get a call back. A few minutes later I did get a call back. The girl on the other end of the line said no one would be able to get out to my house, today. I reminded her that I have no water in my house, and she said that yes, that was on the work order. She said she could reschedule me for tomorrow! WTF?!?!?

1. If you can't make it, you don't wait until a half hour after the appointment time to call the customer and tell them you can't make it!

2. I get bumped for a Commercial Customer because I'm ONLY a single home residence?!?!? I HAD THE APPOINTMENT FIRST! Commercial Customer or not, I should not get bumped!

3. I have no water in my house. THAT'S AN EMERGENCY! How can anyone have the GALL to try to reschedule me for tomorrow WHEN I HAVE NO WATER IN MY HOUSE?!?!? I hope that girl can sleep well, tonight.

We’d like to clarify that while you had the appointment first, we unfortunately needed to postpone your job because an Advantage Plan customer called us with an emergency. Part of the extra service our Advantage Plan customers receive is priority scheduling (as well as preferential pricing and specials). The fact that they were a commercial customer had nothing to do with the change but rather that they were experiencing a plumbing emergency and were an Advantage Plan customer. Rest assured, we wanted to send a technician out to your home as soon as possible, but unfortunately we didn’t have any available. Please call us if you would like to discuss this further. We are so sorry for your trouble.

Mr. Rooter Damage

Mr. Rooter came to my house to repair my main drain. While they were here they ruined my kitchen floor, Dented my washing machine and left the hole the dug unfilled. They were paid in full. Over 300.00 the first time to unclog the drain, the 2nd time was 200.00 to camera the drain, the third time was 1400.00 to fix it. They have yet to tell me what they did to fix it. I have called the local office 7 times and left messages. They will not return my calls. I have emailed the corporate office twice with no response and i have call and left 5 messages at corporate for Carrie and she has called me once but left me a message. I have called her back twice now and she has not returned my calls. They have been paid around 1900.00 and have caused 1500.00 in damage and won't even dignify it with a call back.

Sir, you stood next to our men the entire time they worked on the house plumbing. You inspected the area upon completion of the job and said that you were happy with everything.

We have made several call backs to you sir. The holes you are showing in the yard are one shovel to access your clean out. This would be done by any plumbing company. It's not damage, it's a shovel full of dirt to access a clean out in a yard that you do not even own.
As for the "claimed" damage to the washing machine? At no point did we ever touch the washing machine sir. The washing machine was moved by someone else before we arrived. What else makes no sense is that first you tried to claim the lid was dented, the next day you tried to claim buttons were stolen, the next day you claimed the floor was damaged, the next day you tried to claim the lid was stolen?
We were contracted to fix a plumbing problem in a house that you do not even own. We fixed the problem. Everything we were contracted to do fix we fixed and at no point was a washing machine lid dented, stolen, etc.

Mr. Rooter Commissions result in Rape

I contacted Mr Rooter DFW initially on Saturday, June 19th because a leak coming from my attic was discovered running out, onto my patio. Since the discovery of the leak, and my call to their office, I was promised that a plumber would be out to my home and that a call would be made to me prior to their arrival. I waited by the phone all afternoon, with the assumption that at some point that day, a plumber would arrive. At 5:40 I finally received a call back, the rep indicated that he was not able to get a plumber out that evening, but someone would call and be out first thing the next morning. I never heard from anyone Sunday morning, so I called at 12:08 and the rep indicated that she was trying to get someone out and again, she would call when they were on their way. I even indicated that I knew it was Father's Day, but was unsure if my problem could wait, so asked if she thought someone would definitely be there that day. She said yes, and therefore, I did not try to contact another plumber. Then, at 5:40 again, I received a call stating that she was sorry, but only 2 plumbers were working and she could not get anyone out Sunday either. Monday morning at 7:51 I received a call that a plumber could be out within the hour. The tech and his partner arrived close to 9:00 am and I showed them where the water was leaking from, explained that the floor in the bathroom felt hot to the touch, and that I hear running water in the shower. They asked where the attic was and came back down indicating that I needed:

1. Upper and Lower Thermostats
2. New Upper and Lower Elements
3. New T & P Valve
4. An Expansion Tank
5. 3 new ball valves

Now, after talking to many other plumbers, and building inspectors, I found out that everything was replaced except a new water heater tank…I specifically asked the technicians after they showed me the HUGE estimate, if it would be cheaper to just replace my hot water heater, and they said 'NO', definitely not. However, in calling around I find that, that was again untrue. 50 gallon tank and installation in my attic could have been done for $6-$700.00. Also, I found out that I absolutely did NOT need an expansion tank. It is disheartening that items are sold to the unknowing, that are absolutely NOT NEEDED!

The tech and his partner arrived at my home, even after picking up parts, with no cooler and nothing to drink. They drank about 15 bottles ouy whf water of mine, and unfortunately I only had 2 chilled. This is, I'm sure one of the reasons the senior tech got lightheaded and fell over. The men should carry a cooler with refreshments to every job!
They also did not wear booties, which I'm guessing are required since they all came into my home with booties over their shoes on Wednesday. The tech fell over in my attic from being lightheaded, he busted through the ceiling in my bedroom and bathroom and promised that the drywall guy would be out that day. They stated, the good news is ' Your water problem is fixed though'. The guy who fell, went outside to sit in the truck and call his boss and I showed his partner that I was still hearing water running behind the shower. He took a look and then brought the senior tech in to look/listen. He indicated that he had to go to the doctor, and I asked again about the running water. He stated he spoke to his boss, and that he would be out to take a look and again stated that a drywall guy would be out that day and they verified that I would be home the remainder of the afternoon.
At 6:25, Monday evening, again I received a call asking when she could schedule the drywall guy. I advised her that I was told he would be out that day and she said, "well, he's a friend of a plumber and can only get out there when he can.' I told her that I do work, but that I would be home Wednesday afternoon, after 12:30. She indicated that she would schedule him for then and have him call me. Until yesterday I had not heard from any drywall person.

I woke up Tuesday morning, took a shower and realized that the Hot water was coming out of the Cold faucet and visa versa. I again called at 7:45 am and told the lady about my continued water issue. She said she would have someone out and I advised that I was heading to work, but I would be home after 12:30 on Wednesday for both the drywall and plumber to come out. I then spoke to a couple other plumbers, as well as the town building inspector who indicated that most residential homes, and NONE in Copper Canyon have or NEED an Expansion Tank. They also indicated when I told them what was replaced, that I was ripped off based on what I was charged and what was done, or the lack thereof. I called back after finding out this information and advised that I needed a supervisor to call me back. A field sup called me back, very defensively, stating that he called the town of Highland Village…..and, I advised him, I do not live in Highland Village. Not sure why he would call them…….
He stated that he would be out Wednesday afternoon to look at the continued leak and the reversed water lines.

Wednesday, they again arrived. This time placing their booties on each time (VERY MUCH NOT like their first visit!), and came back from the attic indicating that the water had been corrected and fixed and explained that he was refunding me for the Expansion Tank. I felt this was not enough of a resolution to the run around I had received, especially since my nightmare was not over! He called in the credit and I advised him I still was not satisfied, the work was not complete and I was not going to sign anything. Water is STILL running behind my shower….and, I attempted to take a shower that morning and both the HOT and COLD was scalding water. I then went outside only to notice that I NOW have water seeping out from under my home…….

I have turned the water to my house off to prevent any further damage. In the meantime, I called and spoke to the corporate office. I explained my issue, and then at 12:00 received a call from another supervisor who indicated that he just heard about my situation. He stated that the senior tech that was out here was off that day and that he could do nothing without talking to him. I advised him that he should also speak to his partner, maybe separately, because he heard all conversations and my complaints and concern about the running water behind my wall. He advised that nothing can be done until tomorrow, even though, I can not go to the bathroom, take a shower, or go to work based on this issue.

This has been a nightmare!

Mr. Rooter they damaged my sewer line

MR. ROOTER BLEW A HOLE IN MY SEWER LINE WITH THEIR HYDROSCRUB AND TOLD ME IT WAS ALREADY THERE AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED! They have cost me $634.00 for hydroscrubing my line and $350.00 to get the hole they made fixed. They said they would refund the $634., that hasn't happened and will not return my calls to pay for the damaged line I had to have repaired. WOULD YOU LET MR. ROOTER FIX YOUR SEWER LINE UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES? The did tell me if I did their perma-line for 6K+ that would fix the problem during their high pressure sales pitch. I tried to attach a photo and it was greater than 2MB so this program wouldn't take it.

Mr. Rooter Bad plumbing

We had a water backflow in the toilet. We tried the hand snake but didn't work so we call the insurance but they can't send somebody so they authorized to call outside service & I found Mr. Rooter Plumbing. The plumber Gabriel came & assesed the situation. He told the us that he will try again the hand auger but still did not work & charged us $270.53.He then told us that there's nothing he can do bec. if he will remove the toilet tank there will be an overflow inside the house & we can't use the toilet & have to limit the use of H20 .he needed a clean out access to properly clean the pipe & solve our problem. The clean out installation only will cost us $900-1500.We call another plumber Drain Dx & told us if he can't remove the clog we don't have to pay & he remove the toilet tank & was able to remove the clog & that's $450.I call Mr. Rooter several times for an explanation why other plumber can do what their man said was hard & will cause more problem, but nobody bothered.I want a refund from them bec. my insurance won't cover for the $450 that i paid.

As a mr. Rooter plumber myself, the toilet ager should have never been an option! This will only scratch toilet and then how do you know the problem is solved? We can't see thrue the toilet. A full size access or clean out is needed to get proper equipment into line. What caused the blockage? If it was roots or greese then the other plumber just poked a hole in ur problem! You will have another problem soon enouph! With proper access we could have cleared line as well as given complete video inspection to locate and solve problem! Fix it once fix it right fix it forever. There's the right way and then every other way!

You still need a full sized cleanout like Mr. Rooter told you so they can get a full sized cleaning tool down the line. What Drain Dx did is like putting novacaine on a tumor. It will make you feel better for a little while, but you'll be in pain again shortly.

By the way-no insurance company pays for cleaning out sewers.

Mr. Rooter Mr. Rooter

I would like to thank the Complaints Board for being instrumental in resolving my plumbing problem. My concerns and problems were heard. I was contacted by John, the owner of Mr. Rooter and we have settled my dispute regarding the services and work ethics of his technicians. John said that they value their clients and reputation so he took care of my complaint. Thanks too to Liz of the Contractors’ Board. We hope and pray that we will be able to enjoy our new sewer pipe for a lifetime.

Mr. Rooter came out to fix my main drain. the first time they came out it was 300.00 to snake it. The second time they charged 200.00 for a camera and the third cost 1400.00 to fix the problem. They have yet to tell me what the problem was. The dug a hole and left my yard dug up when they left. The ruined my kitchen floor and dented my washing machine. I have called them 7 times at the local branch leaving a message for Chris each time. He has yet to call me back. When i ask the dispatcher for someone else she states there is noone else. I called the corporate office and left 5 messages. Carrie called me back and left a message on my machine once but when i call her back i go straight to her voicemail. They charged a total of 1900.00 and caused 1500.00 in damages and refuse to talk to me about it.

Are you sure it was Mr. Rooter you used and not one of the other many rooter companys out there? The reason why I asked is because that does not sound like The Mr Rooter way of doing things! We have up front pricing and when more wrk is needed to solve the problem we need your singnature giving autho to do so! We always where shoe covers inside and clean up after wrk is done! If you did not recieve this type of service then you have every right to be mad!

Mr. Rooter scheduling/extended service plan

I wish I would have found this site sooner- we were so ripped off by Mr. Rooter. we paid extra for an extended service plan which gave us priority scheduling and discounts on service.
I called and scheduled for a plumber to come at 5 PM. on Friday. (The person who answered said because of our extended plan we got priority scheduling...)
At 7:30 PM they called and said they'd have to come Saturday morn- I asked for the first appointment- they said fine and scheduled me for 9 AM. At 10:15 AM I called when no plumber has shown up yet- They said the technician was still on his first visit at 8 AM- (!?) still no-one showed up- 11:15 AM I cancelled.
PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE!
-ALSO- Reed's Sewer and Drain came to the rescue- did a great job- (FOR 1/2 the price of Mr. Rooter with the supposed Discount!)
MR.ROOTER IS A RIP-OFF!

Definitely a rip off. I am also in Ypsilanti, MI. Our basement toilet backed up so we called a number of plumbers and Mr. Rooter was able to come out the quickest. The tech did do a good job of snaking the drain and removing some roots but we were way overcharged...and the toilet was broken (literally broken) in the process. We had them come back out a few days later because there was still a bit of water coming out. The tech went in with a camera and told my wife that the pipe was broken and quoted us $4500 to replace it. We decided to get another plumber to do the work...the second plumber quoted us $2300...almost HALF what Mr. Rooter said it would cost. Needless to say, we hired the second plumber. Here is where the story gets really good...the second plumber didn't run a camera because we told him that Mr. Rooter already did so and they said it was broken and had to come out. When the plumber that we hired got all the concrete and dirt out and pulled up the pipe...he found that it was completely intact. Yep...intact...thanks Mr. Rooter for costing me a ton of money for nothing. It's hard enough trying to make ends meet without big companies trying to rip you off. I will never hire Mr. Rooter for anything again and will tell all my friends about this experience so they don't make the same mistake we did.

Mr. Rooter Taken for a ride

This letter is to complain about services we recently received from Mr. Rooter M-37182. Currently, we are at our end both financially and emotionally.
Our problem began the weekend of January 30th after our washing machine flooded the kitchen sink and noted buckling to the laminate flooring in the doorway of the hall bathroom. We removed the toilet and the linoleum flooring thinking that the wax ring had deteriorated causing the leak. The next day, with no toilet in place there was water on the slab floor. On Monday, February 1st we contacted Mr. Rooter for help.
Mr. Rooter’s technician, Nick, was very prompt and pleasant coming out the same day. Upon inspection of the problem, he stated that it was against OSHA regulations to auger pipes from the roof and stated that we required an additional clean-out placed in the front of our house. He further stated this would be difficult due to the hard rock, involving an additional digging crew and expense. We trusted the technician and paid $905.62 thinking this was the end of our issue.
The second day of work we were shocked to learn the sewer line from the house to the street was infested with tree roots, collapsed and needed to be replaced. The technician stated that an ultrasonic device was required to locate the pipe, and back hoe to dig a trench, thus increasing the repair cost to an additional $2814.38. The leaking to the hall bath was due to the master shower. He stated that the drain was not attached to the pipe within the concrete slab causing leaking through the concrete into the other bathroom and hallway. Due to the demolition of the shower tile and concrete, the shower drain repair would cost an additional $1000. Again, we trusted the technician, paying the total amount of $3814.38.
The first evening following the extensive repair, the laundry room flooded yet again. Apparently the problem was not fixed. We received another estimate from Mr. Rooter. This visit entailed the repair and replacement of a pipe within the concrete slab of our only functioning bathroom that “might” be the culprit for an additional $1018.44. This bathroom is not remotely close to the laundry room. After almost $5000, not including the damage to our home, no solution has been provided and we feel like we are living in a “Money Pit”. Every time we contact Mr. Rooter we are given an extensive estimate with no warranty or definite fix to our problem.
At this point, tired of paying for guesses, we called Mr. Rooter on February 26th. The issue was explained in great detail and we were assured a prompt return phone call from the owner. We waited for a response over the weekend, after no response, we called and left another message on March 2nd. With no acknowledgement, we were forced to contact another plumber, Hernandez Plumbing on March 4th. Mr. Hernandez came out and inspected and discussed my dilemma. To our surprise, it is not against OSHA regulations to auger pipes from the roof. They had no problem opening the pipes, costing an additional $125 which we paid in full, a mere drop in the bucket.
We thought we were on the road to repair, angry that we were taken advantage and misled by Mr. Rooter. If the main sewer line was collapsed, would we have back flow in all drains and toilets? This did not happen. Would they not go through the pipes to make sure they were open before they finished the job? This did not happen. Obviously, we had a complaint and concern regarding the work completed. Does Customer Service end once the bill is paid? Do they not warranty their work?
During the replacement of the shower tile, it was found the previously repaired drain was not level, placed too deep and not centered. In order to proceed with the tile work and have a functioning shower, Brian Tindall removed all the tile and concrete down to the subfloor for Hernandez Plumbing to redo the work done by Mr. Rooter. We have a statement from Mr. Hernandez, copy of Mr. Tindall’s invoice for shower demolition and repair, and photos of the shower drain showing a complete bubble off from level. The estimate from Hernandez Plumbing for the shower drain was $150; the floor demolition was included in the repair total of $962.50. Why do we need to pay for the same work twice?
The washer again flooded the garage on March 22nd, and we contacted Hernandez Plumbing again to come out. After paying $150.12 for a camera review, it was found that there is a busted pipe under the sink in the kitchen needing to be repaired and replaced. This work has tentatively scheduled for this week, estimating an additional $1000. Hopefully there is an end in sight.
We expected a much higher level of service from Mr. Rooter, and are quite disappointed. Mr. Rooter gives the impression that they are honest, trustworthy, reliable and professional. I have enclosed a copy of their yellow page ad, which is a joke. It is not our obligation to pay for their guesswork. It is repulsive to think that people trust and contact them for help and only taken for a financial and emotional ride. Not only have we paid them for unneeded repairs, we have had to pay for another plumber to complete the work, spent many hours off of work, and are beginning to put our home back in order. After no response from Mr. Rooter to discuss and rectify this matter, we have been left us with no options. We are requesting Chase Visa to stop any payment or provide a full refund of all services by Mr. Rooter, for the total sum of $4720.00. They should not be allowed to continue business in this matter.
Please advise what other channels or options are available for customers. We have filed a complaint with Mr. Rooter, Chase Visa, Texas Plumbers Association and Better Business Bureau. We would appreciate any guidance you may offer. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Mr. Rooter Bad service

Mr. Rooter refused to provide an idea of pricing to come out to my house, "we don't provide pricing over the phone".

When I rec'd the bill it was $300 to snake a drain -- they were at the house for less than an hour. I called and asked for an explanation of the bill and was told my card would not be charged until I heard back from a Manager. My card was charged before I rec'd a call from the Manager. When I called to ask for an explanation, I was again given the run around. I will be disputing the charge on my credit card.

Mr. Rooter Bait-&-Switch Coupon Scam

On Sunday 1/31/10 we contacted Mr. Rooter regarding a main line blockage due to roots that needed to be cleared. Our regular plumber had provided this service for the last 3 years using a 100ft Sewer Machine, so I told them they’d need a 100ft line and confirmed the special coupon price of $79.99. A technician named NShan showed up as promised, I handed him the coupon as instructed and confirmed the price, which he said was correct providing the blockage was not beyond 100ft. I told him our local plumber had cleared it every year with a 100ft line and we should be OK. The technician was unable to unclog the drain despite several attempts stating that the blockage was beyond 100ft, which seemed odd. He said we’d need to “double-drum” the cable to get 200ft and the cost would be an additional $294 or we could Hydro Jett the line for the special price of $650 (50% Off). We chose not to do this and decided to wait until Monday to call our regular plumber. He came out and with the same 100ft line he’s used in previous years (General Wire Speedrooter 91) was able to clear the sewer blockage, which he said was at about 70ft out. He showed me the extra cable still uncoiled inside the machine, which I took a photo of. I noticed his machine was bigger & wider than what Mr. Rooter used and was told he probably used a 50ft Machine used for Kitchen Drains. Suffice to say we immediately called our Bank to place a stop payment on the check to Mr. Rooter and called them to voice our displeasure. Based on my personal experience (YMMV) I believe Mr. Rooter Plumbing are dishonest and unethical, using bait-&-switch tactics designed to get them in the door via a discount coupon and then trying to up-sell you to more expensive services. Don’t be fooled; Use your local licensed plumber instead!

Mr. Rooter Frozen Pipes On a Mobile Home

On January 4th I came home to a complete freeze up of my sewage drain system. After waiting all day long, a plumber from MR ROOTER finally arrived and quoted me $294 an hour to blow hot air on my drain pipes beneath my trailer. After about an hour and a half, the guy realized that he needed a better running machine and was gone for about an hour or so.When he returned, he unfroze the pipes after about 45 minutes and charged me $553.79 for TWO HOURS of time.It bothered me, but I said nothing and wrote the check.Now...on JANUARY 31st my ENTIRE SEWAGE DARIN SYSTEM is clogged up AGAIN.I guess that being the desperate sucker that I am, I will call them again and after I am done paying THAT, I am selling my place and getting the hell out of here before I go bankrupt.

I totally agree with the rip-off conclusion. We have been trying to work with Mr.Rooter for 2 days now and its impossible. First they show up to thaw a frozen pipe in our mobile home; that charge $535.00 or $555.00 if you buy their Advantage Plan which gives you a discount on future work. Well after 4 hours of trying to figure out where to put the heater, and finally letting us know that a pipe was burst... he called it a night and said he would be back at 9 am. 9 am and 10 am came and noone came. At 11 am we were told he was on his way... at 12 noon, noone was here. At 1 pm they showed up, spent 1/2 and a couple cell phone calls to the boss, came back with an estimate of 2800 to completely replace the whole piping system underneath the mobile home with pvx pipe and no other option. They won't fix the leak cause it might happen again. That's squeezing someone in need at a bad time. I wasted money already calling them and wished I could have gotten a local plumber to answer the phone yesterday. I still don't have water. Thanks Mr. Rooter for the doormat and for the website that instills false confidence in anyone who reads it!

Mr. Rooter - Unethical Business Practices & Shady Employees

I called Mr Rooter when the main waste line of my home became clogged. The clean out is in my backyard and stretches 100 to 130 feet. I was told by the call center that the earliest a Plumber could get to my home would be that evening. Everyone else I called couldn’t get there until the next day. A red flag should have gone up when I asked for their pricing...

Mr. Rooter Highway Robbery Yikes!

On May 15th I called upon Mr. Rooter out of the local phone book. The problem was I could'nt take a shower run a faucet anything without water leaking all out from the garage onto the carpet. The tech shows up spending about 15 minutes tracking in and out and comes up with and estimate for 437.43 to cable through drain line with some cheap looking drain cleaner with Mr Rooter all over it, oh yeah and he also wanted to camera down the line for some reason or another. Of course I did what any normal person would do and told him to "GET THE HECK OUT OF MY HOUSE!" After that I walked straight over to George my nieghbor's house and got a phone number of his local plumber, he showed up got straight to work and 35 minutes later he was done cost me 65 dollars, I didn't but no more had the check made out then the phone rang said "MR ROOTER" is was Allison from the company said that the tech that was their previously forgot to collect 67.59 for the estimate that was done. My advice stay far away from Mr Rooter the tech was less skilled than my local tech and they simply want to much money beware! James Oklahoma

I was just watching the "Under Cover Boss" so on TV where I learned that the Dwyer Corp. Inc. was th actual owner of M Rooter, had I seen the program way back when, I would have searched tem then and NEER used Mr. Rooter of Mid-Mi, for my proble.
I live in a manufactured home and when they set the homes they connect the water discharge/drain pipes together they do it with a rubber sleeve that are clamped at both ends. A couple years back the connection to our kitchen sink came apart under the house and all of the drain water, to include the discharge from the garbage disposal ended up spread across the monolithic slab about 1/4" deep, it did smell from the disposal dscharge.
We called Mr. Rooter from the phone book, the Tech showed up the next day, took one look under the house and stated that there was nothing he could do until the water was pumped out and the slab dried, now consider that the water was approximately 1/4" deep, the open pipe was approximately 4 feet and visable from the access port. He had us sign a work order and advised that this Service Call Charge would be deducted from the final cost when he returned to fix the pipe. He then suggested a clean up company to dry the slab.
Drying the slab took a week, where we could not use the kitchen sink at alland had to do a Kramer and wash the dishes in the shower and tub.
Mr. Rooter of Mid-Mi from Hersey returned, the Tech slid under the house, took about three minutes to conect the pipe and reclamp it with the clamp that was there, climbed back out, had us sign the work order that the wok had been done the handed us a bill for over $700.00. When I questioed it he showed that they have a code system for different types of jobs and he has to charge the way the code says regardless of the amout of time it took. I called the company to complain and ended up just hanging up on the Customer Service person as his only explaination was the was the way they did business.

WILL NEVER USE TEM AGAIN!

Mr. Rooter Poor Customer Service - NO communication!

Oct 20, 2008 my sewer line was infiltrated with about 6 ft of roots from my tree (now mind you, I bought my house in Oct '06.) I paid $9100 to have MR. ROOTER (pieces of Sh%#) come out, put approx 30 ft of liner in, and they "fixed it" with a warranty. (Long story short...)
Oct 20, 2009... "Happy 1 Year Anniversary!" Guess what... Roots are back @ 20 ft, sewer needs to be re-lined again. They came out, told me it was under warranty (duh), and said someone would get back to me Friday... that was 2 days ago. I just called again and left a message for Scott the mgr to contact me. The last time I called, Wed, I was told that someone would contact me soon. What the hell is "soon" to them? I'm trying to be patient, however it's wearing thin. [protected], feel free to call them.) And they also told me taking out the tree wouldn't have made a diff.
CURRENT:
This is a now "warranty fix." It began on October 19, [protected]@ about 7:30pm... still not fixed. I finally got a call from Scot and spoke w/ him in Vegas on this past Friday and has was very rude and curt. This was all AFTER calling Anthony, in Los Angeles (above Scott.) I had asked Scott, since I have had to take time out of MY day, MY family and My work to make all these calls and to get someone to contact... can someone compensate me, after all, it's been going on for a year (off n' on...) & $9100 (paid October 2008.)
* Scott's reply was: "I'm NOT going to pay YOU to fix YOUR problem."
What a great representative of the company... NOT!

I called Mr. Rooter to repair my leaking toilet. The cost for a visit was $63, and that would be deducted from the repair bill. The plumber arrived and said there is a $241 charge to lift the toilet. I agreed to the charge because there is no other way to repair the leak! I needed a new flange and wax ring, the repair qoute was $1, 414! It was late and the work could resume in the morning. The next morning I went on line and found out that the parts cost less than $20, and the average flange repair costs $300 - $400! I called a plumbing company and was quoted $350! I canceled Mr Rooter, but I was stuck with a $241 bill! Take my advise, call anybody but Mr. Rooter!

Mr. Rooter Caveat Emptor

My sewer line was blocked. I called Mr. Rooter because I saw them in town all the time, always on the move. They came over, went to my basement and ran a fiber-optic camera into my system. Then they ran a rooter and pulled out a bunch of tree roots. They told me they'd need about an hour to clean the pipes out, and it would cost me about $75. I agreed to it, and went upstairs to do some miscellaneous cleaning. When I finished with the cleaning, I realized they were still working (it had been nearly three hours. They told me that they had completely cleared the pipes, showed be a pile of muddy tree roots, and told me I'd be good for another 5-7 years before the roots grew back. I asked if they had a way to stop the root growth, and they said that the only way to do it would be to tear down the tree (oak, about 120 years old). They gave me the bill ($325!) and told me I had 15 days to pay it.

4 months later, the pipes became blocked again. I called another service--this time one that my parents recommended--and they told me that the blockage was throughout the pipes, all the way to the street, and that I would have to pay five or six-hundred dollars to clear it, then approximately $50/month to keep it cleared. They then recommended I replace the tile (the pipe to the street) because they had found some broken pieces while looking at it. My father, my brother, a friend & I decided to re-root the pipe ourselves and then find the broken spot (it was between the sidewalk and the street). We dug it up, and found that the pipes between the house and the street didn't seal. One pipe was of a larger diameter than the other, and they were just set together. Two weeks and about $50 later the problem was solved.

I made several complaints to the Mr. Rooter company for their falsification of information, overcharging, and outright fraud, but I couldn't reach anyone in person or by phone; and I decided to swallow the loss and tell everyone I knew about the company.

Always remember: Caveat Emptor (Let the Buyer Beware! [latin])

Mr. Rooter Charges 2x more than others

I put a new vinyl floor down in my bathroom [DIY], and in the process of hooking up my toilet, I broke the water supply line. Because my condo is 30 years old, I couldn't just replace the hose. The valve and all had to be replaced. I felt it was beyond what I could handle myself, so I called several plumbing companies to see if any of them could send someone over. This was on Sunday morning. My second attempt was with Mr Rooter, who said they could have someone over right away. Very few plumbing companies will give you an estimate over the phone. They all want to send someone over ["free of charge"] before they'll give you a price. I made the assumption [yes, I shouldn't have] that most companies, especially big-name companies, are similarly-priced.

Because I'm a bit of a do-it-yourselfer, I'm fairly familiar with materials prices. I estimated very generously at $30 for parts [just a valve and a hose]. I was, however, in a bit of a panic, being without my toilet and haven broken a line I didn't think I could fix. When the technician quoted the price, he quoted me $234. I was in shock, but I agreed anyways, because at this point, I was a bit beside myself with stress. When he gave me the paper to sign, the price was $254, as there was a "fuel charge" of $20 he forgot to point out. I agreed, because I needed to get it fixed immediately, and it didn't occur to me to call someone else.

To make a long story short, it took him 30 minutes to swap out the valves and replace the hose. I have since had the opportunity to call and talk to a number of plumbers, and have had 2 reputable plumbers tell me the job shouldn't have been more than $125. The invoice I was given has a lump-sum amount, so I have no idea how they arrived at the quoted $254.

I called Mr Rooter, and spoke to the general manager. He explained that I agreed to the price before hand, and that was what he had to charge to keep his business running. I asked him why he felt he had to charge more than twice what other plumbers would charge, and he just repeated himself. Although I said a number of times I believe I was severely overcharged, there was no offer to charge me a more reasonable amount. I also asked three different times for an invoice that broke out the charges, and the request was sidestepped each time.

I have no problem paying a fair amount for work well done, but anyone can see that $254 for 30 minutes of work is just plain unreasonable.

I wish i have did my homework first before calling these guys to service my water heater. I had a little pressure valve problem few days ago and it just won't go away, so i called these guys Mr. Rooter and they came in 2hours late on what they promise. Anyway, you have to watch these guys if you decide to hire them (i hope you don't) they came in to my house and i was told that my water settings was set by someone to its maximum settings and i told them that my 3 years old and about 3 months old water heater had never been service nor open by anyone but them. I belieive they deliberately tampered my setting so that to void my warranty. I went inside my house for a minute and i think that's when they did their crooked doings or cheating ways.I was charged $ 233.58 for about 20 minutes unworthy worked. Also, i called up the office and that woman won't give me details on why my bill is only set as a whole bill and not detailing on how much is the labor charge. Be Careful...

I called Mr. Rooter, 230 Bank Street, Midland Park, NJ, to clear four underground gutter drains and one drain in the driveway. The quote was $732.00 for the first two hours and approximately $350.00 for each additional hour.Thinking this was a reasonable price for clearing five drains, I agreed.

Mr. Rooter cleared one drain in less than one half hour but stated that they were unable to clear the other four drains and that I should call a landscaper to fix the problems. Mr. Rooter was at my home for less than one hour, most of it explaining why they could not unclog the additional four drains. You can imagin my SHOCK when they presentedd me with a bill for $783.24.

To add insult to injury, a letter to Steve Phykitt, President, Mr. Rooter, was ignored without the common courtesy of a response.

I should add that after the fact, I checked for complaints againt Mr. Rooter organizations throughout the country and found an extraordinary number. I suggest that anyone considering the services of Mr. Rooter first search for compaints on the internet.

I had a blockage in my bathrooms I called because the ad said there were no after hour charges and a plumber could be dispatched shortly within minutes. The plumber arrived at 10:00pm, I called at 6:00pm. No one called to communicate an ETA I had to keep calling them. When he did arrive he was very vague and said he could not run a snake to unclog my drains and that he would have to run a camera through my roof and find out where he would need to install cleanouts. It cost me 327.50 for him to be there for an hour. I asked if he could just make a temporary fix so I could stay in my house for the night. He said he could not do that and would need to come back and I would have to pay for a three part process, the next phase would be $787.00 and I could expect to pay him $1000 to do everything. I called drain doctor and the city and it costs me $156.00 to have the drains unclogged the next day. BE AWARE-Their plumbers are paid by commission. Go FIGURE! He was going to snowball his prices with this process scheme and he did nothing. This company will get your credit card information first before they come out on your property. DO NOT USE MR. ROOTER for your plumbing needs.

Mr. Rooter always overcharges. Never use them. Go with a local plumber and not a franchise who generally has technicians that are inexperienced. Most Mr. Rooter's technicians do not even have their licenses. Just ask. Mr. Rooter is just a huge scam based in Waco, TX. They rip off their franchisees. They rip of their customers. They rip off their employees. They are owned by an evil corporation hostile takeover firm known as Riverside based in New York City. They are all about taking your money. Do not use them EVER!

Are you kidding me? You think that 254 bucks to have somebody come to your home on a Sunday is too much? You need a touch of reality along with those other plumbers who were not around to fix your problem.

Your are not seeing that the company has to pay the guy from the time he left his house until the time he gets home at overtime rates. Forget about the 1/2 hour he was at your home. Probably at least 2 hours minimum were spent on your call.

The Mr Rooters know what their cost of doing business is. Frankly, I think you got a great deal. For a Sunday should have been a lot more.

Mr. Rooter Repairs caused significant damage to our property

Mr. Rooter is possibly the worst plumbing company I've ever done business with. It is so discouraging to think that they swindled us out of $1500 for a job that completely destroyed our concrete porch floor and our foundation. We called them out to our house originally to clear the main drain line out due to a back-up. After several unsuccessful attempts, they started to pull up red clay from the clean-out pipe. So, they stuck a camera down there, only to find that the pipe had completely dissolved on the bottom...and it was Orangeburg pipe. (basically heat-treated tar paper with sealant, dating back to the 1960's). Mr. Rooter's estimate was lower than most other estimates that we got, so we gave them the go-ahead to do the work. They came out several days later and began cutting and removing the concrete above the pipe. (About 35' long, and 2 1/2 feet wide.) They dug down to the pipe, pulled it all up and began replacing it with PVC pipe. They left the old pipe pieces laying in the yard, and concrete dust EVERYWHERE! It was a huge mess. They also neglected to put more than 100lbs of dirt back where they laid the pipe. (and yes, I put the dirt in trash bags and weighed it.) A few days after the pipe passed inspection, they came back out and filled the hole in and began replacing the concrete. I have no idea if they used rebar or wire mesh or anything to support the new concrete...because the concrete they poured has completely settled and cracked entire the slab under our porch... all the way to the foundation! It took more than 3 months for me to actually talk with the manager about the problem, as their extremely rude receptionist kept saying that the manager would return my calls. He never did call me back. I called again one day and demanded the manager's cell phone number. Finally, I got to tell him what happened. He immediately told me that the house had coincidentally settled, and that they were not responsible for the damages...and he had not even looked at it yet! I recently contacted the BBB regarding this claim, and he still refuses to accept responsibility. He did, however send a document offering to send me a settlement check for $150 after we sign and return the document and release them of all liability for the damages related to their repairs. He knows that they made a mistake, and yet refuses to accept responsibility. As a paying customer, our satisfaction should be a priority to Mr. Rooter...however it is NOT! They don't care about our property or your property, or anything after they get their money! My advice is to completely avoid these crooks. Their address is 8132 West Reno Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73127...so if you live in the OKC area pick someone else or you'll regret it like I do!

We have recently had a very similar experience with the OKC Mr. Rooter. We called them to clear our blocked main drain line. In the process of snaking the pipe they broke their snake off in the pipe. They then told us they had to cut in to the pipe to get it out and that they would patch it. I've since found out that drain lines should NEVER be cut. 4 days later everything including the toilets backed up. As soon as we started digging over the area where they had cut, sewage started bubbling up. We immediately called them and demanded that they send someone out to properly patch the pipe. It's been two weeks. They say they'll send someone and then at 6 pm they have their after hours office call and say no one can come. The horrible receptionist has also told us the manager will call us back. No call. These people are criminals and I will be filing a claim with the BBB. Thank you to the person who made the above post because we are now going to try to call the corporate office as you suggested.

This is the way Mr. Rooter and the Dwyer Group operates. They never take responsability for their actions. You should ask for their insurance information and file a claim against their insurance. In fact, the Dwyer Group (whose phone number is above [protected]) has the local franchise's insurance information on file. So, if the local franchise will not give you their insurance information you should get it from the Dwyer Group. Demand It!

Mr. Rooter Unfinished work

Called them out because Basement was backing up due to Roots in the Main line. Quoted 1.5Hr and 100Ft of Cleaning. Plumber found seperation in line and claimed had to stop that his equipment got stuck. Claimed if it got stuck would have to break ground to repair line. Left partialy cleared line. Basically would not complete the job unless Main was to be replaced. When I explained other plumbers provided quotes, they wanted to know who so they can report them for working on a Main line that was broken. When I explained it was to clear the line until I can fix, they indicated that I can be reported for not repairing the line to the city.

This isn't true on many levels. First, Mr. Rooter never quotes a job by time or distance. They have a flat rate and woiuld not leave a job without opening the line or giving a quote for a repair. They would never report a problem to the city if a customer decides against a repair. This sounds like a competitor not a customer because Mr. Rooter doesn't do business like that.

Mr. Rooter Sloppy Job

We had Mr. Rooter in to clean out our sewer drain that backed up into our basement. Every time I talked to the tech, the price went up, up, up. By the end of the day the total cost to clean some roots out of the line totaled over $1, 500.00. Mr. Rooter advised that we should replaced the line in our front yard - which we agreed. When they completed the work, we were left with a 3 foot high pile of dirt (approx 30 foot long). We then had Trumbull County come in to finish the work from their easement to the road. When they walked away, they left only a pile of dirt about 6 inches high. Big difference. When we called Mr. Rooter and asked them to come back and pack their pile in so there is not such a mess, they advised that they did not do landscape. We told them we did not want landscaping, us that they clean up their mess. They now want an additonal $250.00 to finish their work. We had paid them $4, 200.00 to replace the line in the front yard. Why should we have to pay an additonal $250.00? What a joke.

Mr. Rooter of North Central Ohio came to our house because we had a shower that wasn't draining. They charged us $362.94 and when they left we were advised by Mr. Rooter that we still could not use our bathroom or kitchen sink until we paid them an additional $500.00 (which started out at $868.00 and came down) to have them clean out our main line under the house which they wanted us to schedule that day. We told them that we wanted to think about it and the next day I called around to get competitive prices. We had the line cleaned out the next day for $267.00 and when asked other companies we called if they would have made two separate calls and charged us twice we were always told "no" that it would have been one charge and all were a fraction of Mr. Rooter. They also sold us chemicals for over $50.00 that I am researching now and starting to suspect I can buy for around $10.00. Of course no one in the plumbing business that I have talked to can tell me that these make any difference at all in your drains remaining cleaner. What a ripoff Mr. Rooter is.

Thank you for giving us an opportunity to explain and understanding how sanitary excavations are brought back to "construction grade" and that putting gravel in to "bed" pipe is the proper way to install a new sanitary line. By following this procedure it assures code compliance and stability of pipe pitch. Gravel does displace dirt which will cause an increase in dirt pile height almost equal to the amount of gravel placed under and over the pipe.
Anytime you have a new sanitary line installed be sure the contractor beds the pipe with gravel.

Mr. Rooter Fraud POOR Customer Service

The statement made over the phone when you calll Mr. Rooter is as follows, “There's never an overtime charge. Mr. Rooter Plumbers are clean and professional, and it gets fixed right the first time. There is no extra charge for nights or weekends, and you know the price before any plumbing work is performed. Mr. Rooter Plumbers guarantee workmanship and parts.” I called Mr. Rooter to get a quote for service on the sewer lines at my house, I was told that if we had a cleanout that the fee would be $185.00 and that if we did not have a cleanout that the charge would be over $200, because that toilet would have to be removed for the snake to be used. I made the appointment for the plumber to show up between 9 am and 11 am on June 9th. The plumber arrived at the house 1/2hour late. When the plumber started to check for the clean out I point it out to an opening on the north side of the house (outside), to which the plumber Larry agreed that it was the cleanout. After the plumber flooded the line, he ran a 100’ snake from the outside clean out. When he pulled out the snake he said that he had not reached the clog. Therefore, I requested for him to please run the snake from the cleanout that is locate on the spare restroom, to which he did. When he pulled the snake he noticed that he had not reached the clog and he said that we need it to put in a double Y cleanout in the front of the property. The quote that he gave us for the double Y was for over $1500.00. I told him that it was too expensive and that I could not afford it at that time, and I asked him if he had a longer snake to which he said yes. I requested for him to please use that snake to see if he could reach the clog and he refused because it was too big and that it would not fit through the front door. I told him that he could use the sliding doors located in the rear of the house, he refused. Larry called his manager and informed him of what was going on and he told Larry to let us know that the $185 that we paid him would go to the $1500.00 that we needed to pay for the double Y. The next day I called another plumber who was able to fix the problem for less.

NOW I CANNOT GET ANY TYPE OF CREDIT AND I CALL AND CALL THE COMPANY AND THEY JUST GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROCEDURE IS TO CALL THE NEXT DAY TO WHICH I DID BUT THE GUY WHO ANSWER DID NOT CARE AND WAS RUDE. WHAT A FRAUD.
