Dear Winner,

I want to inform you that your verification details have been received and have been processed. I must say that you should count yourself extremely lucky to have emerged as one of our lucky winners in the UK National Lottery Online Sweepstakes International Program.

As you already know, all participants for the online version were selected randomly from the World Wide Web through a computer draw system and extracted from over 1, 000, 000 unions, associations and corporate bodies that are listed online and each email address was attatched to a ticket number. Your email address attatched to ticket number: [protected] 188 with Serial number 5368/02 was selected which automatically makes you one of our lucky winners.

Your funds have been approved for release and we will begin the process of remittance of your prize money to you immediately. I have contacted the UK National Lottery Advisory Board and The Internal Revenue Board on this matter and we have decided to send your winning parcel which contains your certified bank cheque which was made out in your name to the amount of £590, 983.00 (Five Hundred and Ninety Thousand Nine Hundred and Eighty Three Great British Pounds), the original copies of your winning certificate, consolation prizes which include a Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop, a UK Lottery Branded T-shirt, a UK Lottery Branded Baseball Cap and security Documents via a secured and efficient courier service.

We have also contacted our affiliate Courier Company INTERNATIONAL BONDED COURIERS and have directed them to pick up your winning parcel from the National Head Quaters.

Do note, that sequel to UK Lottery Acts 249(n) of 1972 ammended in July, 1996 to ensure the actual winning prize get to Winners, the Courier charges cannot be deducted from your winning claims because your winning claim is bonded by a hard cover insurance policy that gives only the winner access to the prize money.

Hence you will be responsible for all costs incurred in mailing your winning parcel to you.

Please forward your Name and Ticket number to The Head of Deliveries, INTERNATIONAL BONDED COURIERS and he will get to you as soon as your winning parcel is ready for delivery.

I also received on 09/15/2008 a winning notification email from that same Mr. Ness, everyone is complaining about. I did provide my name, sex, occupation, etc. The answer I received in his second communication was and I quote part of it: "I have contacted the UK National Lottery Advisory Board and The Internal Revenue Board on this matter and we have decided to send your winning parcel which contains your certified bank cheque which was made out in your name to the amount of £590, 983.00 (Five Hundred and Ninety Thousand Nine Hundred and Eighty Three Great British Pounds), the original copies of your winning certificate, consolation prizes which include a Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop, a UK Lottery Branded T-shirt, a UK Lottery Branded Baseball Cap and security Documents via a secured and efficient courier service."

He then tells me that I will have to pay for the courrier charges and to contact Mr. Harry Smith, Head of deliveries, International Bonded Couriers at deliveries@ibc-onlineservices.com which address brings me to Yahoo mail and chat line. Since I was expecting some sort of scam, nobody ever wins without participating, this is my reply as of today:

'Sir:

I have tried the link of Head of Deliveries I was supposed to contact and I ended up on Yahoo chat line. I am enclined to believe that this is all a big joke since you haven't even asked me my home address for the delivery. Since I won such a huge amount of money, why am I entitled to consolation prizes? So you can claim delivery charges in advance? Just to let you know that if this is all true, the delivery better be COD because I will not send you a penny until I can verify that this is not a scam. Never heard about you before and I probably never will in the future. This kind of extortion happens every day and too many people pay for things they never receive. I refuse to be one of them."

Will keep you posted if new development.

I got a variation of the same e-mail everyone else here has, stating I'd won the UK National Lottery. I knew it had to be a scam because I live in the United States and have not so much as visited the UK Lottery website (in fact, I'm really really wondering how he/she/it got my e-mail in the first place.) It was also from a Mr. Richard Ness, requesting personal information so that I could receive my winnings--it's a lot more professional letter than most scammers, but the 'Country of Residence' is definitely a warning sign, for I've never ever heard of ANY country's lottery being open to people who weren't legal residents. Don't be taken in by this guy, and certainly don't give him personal information--it's not your bank number or anything, but God alone knows what he could do with it.
