I believe that if you need to solicit individuals via social media and commercials to help validate a letter sent to patients of Dr. Lu by Florida Hospital then you are nothing but ambulance chasers & money hungry. Dr. Lu is a highly regarded Doctor and attempting to ruin his reputation is wrong. Don't you think a patient would have come forward after 5 years if they had a problem with their back surgery? This surgery is not experimental and therefore you are misleading the public. This surgery may have not been performed at Florida Hospital before but there is plenty of information online. I have been a patient of Dr. Lu's since 2001. I trust him with my life and would allow him to perform this procedure on my back. There is no guarantee any surgery will stop pain. But you can stop misleading people. Why not take the money you are spending on commercials and donate it to charity; thereby, doing something worthwhile for the community. I need Dr. Lu's services and I can't obtain it, thanks to you. So stop this attempt at making money at his expense. Now knowing that you are not sincere or "For The People", I would never consider using your service. But I can't wait to see Dr. Lu.

I'm sorry you had a poor experience. But I am fused from C4 to C7 and experience normal issues with being fused at these levels.. I believe that people have inappropriate expectations after surgery. Dr. Lu is very informative on post care and what you need to do to have a successful outcome. Any doctor can open you up and find that modification to the original plan is required as they found issues that weren't seen on the diagnostic imaging . If other Doctor's agreed with the procedure, then it wouldn't matter who did the surgery, outcome would be the same. I did research and got a second opinion before letting anyone perform such an invasive procedure that II knew would effect my life forever. People need to ask questions, do research and be educated before jumping into surgery. I'm sure Dr. Lu would have performed your second surgery just fine and kept you from suffering the fallout that you experienced. He does not have a God like attitude. He has a confident but yet stern demeanor.

Look I didn't file this to argue with anyone. I didn't imply you did or did not do anything right or wrong. It was a general comment. Based on your reaction you must have the personal issue. 1st amendment rights give me the freedom of speech. I am entitled to see a doctor of my choice. There are many of us who had great experiences with Dr. Lu and then those who also claim they didn't. The public has the right to hear both sides.
As far as the personal info you posted, it isn't me so you might want to remove it as I'm sure the individuals mentioned would be disturbed to see it. I marked it as spam. Next time you post be a little more rational. But don't post on my behalf as I won't be responding to you. This is a public forum to educate the community. Keep it informative on their behalf. Trying to start a fight is childish.

I was hit by a drunk driver while walking to school at the age of 12 . Through the years I have a severe pain with most doctors just prescribing me with pain medication but tried nothing to find out why I had the pain and how to stop it . Dr.Lu was the first doctor that cared, listened and took me serious. I have been trying to find someone to listen for over 30 years and finally I had found him. He ask me about being involved in experimental surgery, I of course said yes because I trust him and would try anything to get a chance to be free or at least ease my pain. Now, I am on the search again . Having numerous CAT scans and MRI's feeling like I'm right back where I started. I am just hoping and waiting for Dr.Lu to start practicing again.

This procedure is called an anterior cervical discectomy and allows the offending disc to be surgically removed. A discectomy is a form of surgical decompression, so the procedure may also be called an anterior cervical decompression.
A fusion surgery is almost always done at the same time as the discectomy in order to stabilize the cervical segment.
Fusing the two vertebral segments together after removing the disc prevents the spine from falling into a collapsed deformity (kyphosis), and also provides for a shorter post-operative rehabilitation period.
Bone graft and fusion:
A structural, weight-bearing component is necessary to maintain the disc height and lordosis.

Smoker or not, if you remove the disc and do not fuse the segments the disc space (empty space) will collapse.
It's basic mechanics and common sense. Blaming the Patients for failed EXPERIMENTAL procedures is a flawed mentality.
Deliberately performing a failed procedure for profit is CRIMINAL. We shall see what the State and the Courts have to say.

I worked for Dr William Lu for many years and although he never did surgery on me, he was my physician. I know how he was with his patients and you either liked what he had to say or not. He never sugar coated anything when it came to his patients and therefore some of them didn't like his "bed side manner". He would tell his patients upfront of what the outcome of the surgery could or could not be - No Guarantees. Also, if you are a smoker, he wanted you to be nicotine free for at least 30 days before the surgery and to stay nicotine free after the surgery, more on the side of quitting. Spinal surgeries do not heal with nicotine in your system. While working for him for many years, I saw patients that would not quit smoking and tried to blame the long healing process on Dr. Lu. Well, Dr Lu wasn't the only doctor in the practice and I witnessed many patients the were going through the same thing only because they didn't listen to their doctor's orders. Dr. William Lu is a fine man and a wonderful doctor. His compassion for his patients goes way beyond what you see. I believe that he has done a wealth of good to his patients and I wish him and his family all the best as they go through this horrific time. Helen Pender

Implying that I did no research and got no other opinions just shows your ignorance. If you were a lucky guinea pig then I am happy for you. There was no unforeseen complication or change to the plan necessary except for his greed and deliberate actions which he knew would require a 2nd procedure to correct. No 2nd surgery would have been needed if he followed the procedure as agreed and consented to. He admitted (on tape) that he decided to change the plan on his own against my will. Then he developed a real attitude and asked me why he should even help me further. The way you defend and justify his clear violations of protocol and consent makes me believe you have some personal reasons other than being a random Patient. I'm very happy to see Morgan & Morgan building a case against him and hope he suffers appropriate consequences. He should be barred from medical practice for life and made to financially compensate all the Patients who's lives have been ruined by this QUACK.

Dr. Lu ruined my life. He performed a 2 level ACDF (or was supposed to be) 2 level fusion of C 5-7. Instead he deliberately fused C 5-6 with bone plug and instrumentation but did a discectomy only at C 6-7 (against the agreed upon plan) resulting in a collapse of that disc space. It took me 2 years to find any Surgeon willing to fix this mess. Took 2 years after the revision Surgery for me to recover somewhat. No Lawyer would take the case as a few Doctors think this is an ok procedure. I lost my job and never was able to return to any normal job since 1999. The revision surgery cost me roughly 20 thousand dollars out of my pocket due to the fact that I had to go to NY to find a spine expert to repair my neck.

My life was forever changed and the financial losses to me are immense. He should be removed from medical practice. His attitude was horrible after the failed procedure and he clearly has a God complex. Hope he is punished appropriately. Chris Grafing (Clermont FL)
