A classic scam

I spend time, energy, and gas on this scam. The moment I finally sat down with one of their "managers" I noticed the credit card machine. I was actually quite shocked that she thought she could fool me since I have agents and a manager already. But alas she tried and explained to me that if I already had "good" model pictures then I would not have to take new ones. But I would still have to pay 100$ a year for my info to be on their website. I politely said no, she did not seem surprised. I left there angry and sad that such a thing still goes on. I hope enough people realize this and they do not make another cent.

I am so glad I did some research tonight. I too got their ad from Backstage.com this week and submitted myself. I was also told that they liked my look. I was also invited to a closed audition. They told us to call and leave a message with the correct spelling of our name and the time we wanted to come. Silly me, I went. When I got to the building, the doorman didn't have my name on his list, or anyone else who was in front of me. We had to call up to get signed in. When we got to the office, there was no one there to greet us, just a form to fill out. We then met with this Kurt character for a maximum of 45 seconds per person. He took two of my headshots, asked me if I had scars or tattoos, made me walk/strut for him, then gave me a sheet with a number and said to call tomorrow. No more info than that, no business card, nothing. And he didn't write anything down. It was totally weird. I should have done my research beforehand, but at least I know better now. I may call them tomorrow, simply so I can post what they tell me on this website!

Take it from someone that knows this company first hand...
They go from city to city as well as, and that's where I met them, long ago, before I knew better!
I did their shoot, I paid them the some now, more later then the final $100 when we were going to put the portfolio together.
I never got a portfolio! I never got my photos from them! The phone number suddenly didn't work! And, to top it off, I talked to the photographer about one year later when we crossed paths again and learned that he was never paid and niether was the makeup artist, so all the money went directly to MMI with no return!!!
If I would have been given the promised portfolio then at leaste the money would have been for something, but they are sure to just flat out screw you!

I noticed the 2 pro-MMI comments were lifted from their (already suspicious-looking) website too. Thanks so much to the original poster for letting us know - I submitted through Backstage, got the closed audition email & was considering going, but now that I know it's a photography scam I don't have to bother.

@Beenhere--you should talk to a lawyer. Do you have any friends who are lawyers & can help you out? It's not worth it if you have to pay one, but if you've got friends you should get your money back.

I’m glad I reading this going to tell you model don’t have to pay for any thing. If an agency wants they would pay to see you. Or take a percents from the company you work. In I had found agency on Craig list that was scam. Positive out of this I got shoot coming up that the designer coming to my area and I Found on Craig list.

good luck

Wow i just went to this call like a week ago with the SAME RESULT as the other people posting here

i'm an actor and had headhsots taken - akheadshots.com best guy ever - and once i got the prints i sent them to a couple of people looking for extras over craigslist - mysteriously got this email from a modeling agency and decided i'd check it out

they didn't have my name at the desk

i had NOTHING to bring them - they said email them pics when i got home - and i did

i went back the a few days later stoked at the idea of actually doing this on the side and when i showed up i got a quick meeting a business card and a contact sheet for an $895 photo shoot

i smell bull$hit here - stay smart stay away

if anyone wants you to model im pretty sure they could pay to get a couple of pics taken and to send you out on stuff

stay away and good luck

I just googled this company because I just got a message from them. I have avoided getting scammed 3 times this year only because I knew how a real management company is supposed to work. I have been with UGlYNY model management for a year they have never charged me for anything except the amounts that they are supposed to and whenever I change my hair or lose some weight they take my picture for free and add it to the website for free. They get paid when I get paid, that's the way it's supposed to be!!

I feel so blessed to have come up on this sight. Recently I moved to LA across country to pursue my entertainment dreams. I was @ Central Casting registering when an asin girl named Samatha approached me and asked me if I modeled. She said I had "The Look" and ask me to come in for a GO SEE. I then noticed her add my name to a very long list which were probably the other 100 people who had the look. I then starting get a feeling that something wasnt right. I asked her is this one of those ageny that tell you you have the look then when you get there they ask you to pay for pictures and a portfolio??? She flat out lied and said the agency only takes money if you get work. The thing is if you say your a model management company then why in the world are u asking for money. Please people be smart if anyone ask for you to pay any money they are not an agency. If the advertise as a modeling school or a training program for models that would be better. It makes me really sick to my stomach that they are taking advantage of sooo many peoples dream. I was suppose to go in for my call tommorrow and I am going to call them tommorrow to complain. I am also thinking about going up to the office tommorrow and warn people. If everyone could post add keep complaining talk to lawyers about this fraud company it would save allot of people heartache. I truly believe in KARMA and these people are going to get there and more for the way they are treating people. I just want all to aspiring models out there to read this and other blogs like this and do your research. On there websites none of there agent have worked for any major companies and I googled the names of different people and nothing comes up. This company is a scam a fraud and the comments you see saying the company has treated them well are fraud postings. Be smart and dont ket them scam you. I hope my posting has also helped out anyone who was thinking of going into this agency. Much Love to you all be safe!!!

I got an email from this company about this "closed audition", asking me to come in. I don't even know where they got my picture and info. I'm 5'4"... I 'm not interested in being a model. I've never called or emailed them, but somehow they still ended up with my person information. I guess if they are desperate enough, there is always a way to find and scam someone. After reading these postings, I'm thankful it won't be me.

I recently went into MMI, I've been trying to find an agent for awhile and unfortunately fell for their scam. I researched them the day before I went in but found absolutely nothing on them. I gave them the deposit for my photos since I've been looking for a good high fashion photographer for awhile. 2 days later I felt like I made the wrong move, I was going to cancel my payment but they informed me that because I didn't have it sent by certified mail in 3 days that my money was non-refundable.

They promised me with my shoot that I'd get full wardrobe and would not have to bring anything in except shoes and bras. Not true, I got an e-mail from them 2 days before the shoot date with a LONG list of clothes and items I needed to bring. I did end up using the stylist's clothes but it was a hassle to bring all that stuff in.

On top of that they cancelled my shoot and moved it down 2 weeks. They told me for the inconvience they'd give me my pictures 2 days after the shoot instead of making me wait 2 weeks, but that did not happen. I've called them and they keep telling me they're not ready yet.

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY!!!

If you hear from them walk away, learn from my mistake!

I responded to a craigslist ad and was asked to come in for an audition.
I may not go now because of the sketchy things I am reading here.
Btw the whole invest in yourself thing is bullshit. I got every one of my pictures for FREE. It's called modelmayhem.com.

To all readers with questions:

Instead of accusing a legitimate business of these charges, or listening to individuals who may not have all of the information, or may have been turned away and are upset and blogging, why not do your own research?

If you do, you will find out very quickly, with the case of very RARE exceptions that any model, whether it is fashion or lifestyle, must pay a fee for photography from an agency-approved photographer. This is standard procedure so I am not sure where the word 'scam' enters into the equation.

It is also standard practice that models and talent pay an administrative fee for FedEx, Messenger, and other costs associated with marketing you to clients. Check it out for yourself, why don't you give Elite, Wilhelmina, or any other agency a call and you will find this out for yourself? You will find, in fact, that on average they charg, $350 - 7$50 per year, a much higher administrative fee than Model Management Inc.'s

Regarding the credit card machine, what business today exists without the ability to offer their clients the courtesy to process a payment with a credit card? It would be hard to find one, and because a business owns one, how could that possibly be used against them?

I invite anyone to ask a legitimate question and to prove in any way that this is a 'scam'. This is not a word to throw around unless you have some evidence to back it up.

This company is so awful, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING!!!

I scheduled a photo shoot with them, they told me in 2 weeks I could pick up my pictures, comp cards, and would be on their website. It's now been a month and every time I call in asking to pick up my pictures they tell me my comp cards aren't in and I can't pick up any of my photos. I'm delayed on getting work because I don't have pictures for my portfolio or comp cards.

I am not signing with this company and unfortunately learned they were a scam too late.

If you hear from these DO NOT respond, go in, or pay any attention. They are a scam!!!

Model Management Inc. is a total Scam!! Any modeling agency that asks you to pay up front is really just after your money. They call you back, you return into the office, Barbara talks with you, and says they are looking for someone just like you, and they don't have anyone like you yet. The comany name is formerly known as /removed/. The name speaks for itself. Thats the name that will come up once you charge your card. The office space they have is a rental unit, so that they can vacate quickly when they need to change Company names and spaces once they get caught!!
All the references they have claiming to be the clients they have worked with are who Barbara Moore and Kurt Clements have individual worked with. NOT THE SO CALLED MODELS they have at their fake agency.
Also, the person in the "finance" department, what is his name, "Vic" or something like that. Its Kurt pretending to be someone else!! His voice is the same and he pretends to be someone else. Just notice that Babara and Kurt are the only people working in that office. Where are other members who are a part of that agency??
I myself, found their ad on craigslist, spoke with them. Talked about signing a contract. When I told Barbara that I would return with my lawyer present to discuss the contract, she said we would set up a meeting. I kept calling her and she never called back. Totally avoided me and didnt respond to my emails.
After doing extensive research and hiring a P.I. it is to my dismay that this Model Management Inc has been running this game for quit sometime now. And that Paris Co. they claim to have exist in fact does not exist at all.
So please put the word out there, let the public know. And I have and will continue to post this information on the web, and craigslist. Thanks and good luck!!
