Miche Bag defective bag/ refund refused

Bought a miche big bag on November 27, 2010 for 132.00 plus tax. Acouple of months ago one of the skins cracked. Rep (Kathy Levy) offered to replace but would have to add it onto a party. Still haven't got the new skin and this is October. Last week the tab that holds the handle clip on the liner bag came off. A little disgusted so called the rep and asked for a full refund; really don't think this bag will stand up or look good 2 years from now. She wasn't authorized to refund my money but would order me another liner but I would have to, again, wait for another party to be booked, held and submitted. Asked her why because now I had no purse and she said SHE wasn't paying the shipping cost to have the bag brought in! Would only give the contact info for a MOIRA who is the rep over her. Again my request was refused for a refund even when I pointed out to her that I had had 2 problems in less than one year with this bag and now I would have to go and buy another purse until I received the replacement. (She DID offer to send it out in the mail that day!)
Thought everyone should know how the Miche company stands behind their product and hopefully thing twice before purchasing one of these expensive bags that should last at least 2 years before they show any signs of wear!

I can't really comment on the rest but expecting a full refund after using the product for 10 months (on a product with a 1 year warranty) to me seems unreasonable.

"if it is an exact replica i agree . but there are many things that have similarities. food lion is not being sued for having there cola brand soda of coca cola. walmart is not being sued for having there brand of cola."

Recipes and composition of a final product are not something you can patent, copyright or file a trademark on.

"The original telephone that was made had hundreds of different companies making all kinds of telephones and they are not being sued. "
The telephone from 1875 to up to 17 years past the filing date United States Patent No. 174, 465 protected the telephone. Any telephones manufactured and sold in the united states during that period had to be licensed at the whim of Bell. Furthermore Bell sued Westinghouse corporation in 1879 for illegally violating his patent and lead to the shutdown of a whole division of the company.

"what about the first person to make a razor?"

The first razors appeared before patents were even thought of and copyright meant the king gives you permission to temporarily own what you write. Today razors are heavily patented. A patent covers a set of features that are unique and novel.

"like thirty one gifts has a changeable purse that snaps together."

The fact of the matter is Miche has a patent on a purse whose shell are interchangeable though use of magnets or fasteners. Once the patents expire they can create their own product, until that time comes thirty one must abide the law just like everyone else.

Debra~ You could not have said it better. If it was her copy right & patent being copied..I am sure she would approach the situation just like Miche Bag did!

I'm unclear. Is it your opinion that federal laws pertaining to patents, trademarks, and copyrights should be ignored or unenforceable? It appears so, and I'd like to address that.

Miche Bag holds all three of these (patents, trademarks, and copyrights) relative to their products. These laws are designed to protect creators against theft of their ideas, their brand identities, their hard work. Competition is great; if someone has a better idea, bring it on! But stealing and using a creator's technology and design work in order to sell duplicates or similar copies is wrong, morally and legally. One cannot sell what one does not own. To sell look-alike products of inferior quality with the creator's trademark is a different kind of theft: It steals and cheapens the brand identity, degrading the original company and product in the public's eyes. Both of these types of theft result in loss of sales for the original creator.

Another illustration of this concept: I used to have my own software company. I spent over a year developing a suite of programs for a specific purpose, creating (as far as I know) the first software to solve this particular challenge for the home-computer user. I copyrighted the software and released it for sale. A few months later, I wanted to hire another programmer to assist me in translating my software to work on another brand of computer. One individual that I interviewed handed me a disc containing samples of his work -- and a pirated copy of my own software! He had not purchased it from me, and I had not authorized anyone else to resell my work. Yet there it was. Illegal copies of my software became so commonplace that my sales dropped precipitously. I did not have the financial resources to defend myself against the thieves. (It costs thousands--tens of thousands--of dollars to pursue a lawsuit.) I had to lay off the programmer I had hired (someone else!), and ultimately went out of business.

Do you really think that it is unfair of Miche Bag to defend their property? I sure don't!

Miche Bag Defective Shell

Defective Shell - magnets weak; shell does not hold to bag - Miche and rep (ebay) unresponsive.

Received from Corinne Smith, Miche Customers Service. Thank you for contacting us about your bag. Miche Bag stands behind its products and we strive to have zero defects but unfortunately it happens. You will need to contact the original point of purchase as they should be able to exchange it for you. Please let me know if there are any other problems or questions I can help you with. Email: [protected]@michebag.com - Phone: [protected]

And the finger pointing begins.

Finally, Angie Pedersen, Miche Customer Service Manager - Email: [protected]@michebag.com; Phone: [protected] - offers to sell a replacement shell for half price.

My CC Company said a charge back can be initiated against the Ebay if I can get a copy of Miche's warranty for their magnets. To date, Miche Customer Service will not acknowledge if there is a warranty, which leads me to believe it does not warrant it's product after 30 days. If a defect presents itself after that time, the customer is left swinging in the breeze with a worthless bag and/or shell.

NOTE: the other three shells I bought are fine. Knowing this, Miche still insists they are not responsible for replacing the shell - the ebay rep has stopped selling Miche bags - and I think I now have a better understanding why.

If anyone buys a Miche bag, go into the sale knowing that if you do not test all the shells for a few days (even if you look silly with an out of season shell) you may end up with a worthless shell

I fully intended to add to my Miche shell collection - now -- it simply isn't worth the risk.

I have purchased many Miche bags over the years in all sizes - I have 3 bags that the leather came off of one and stuck to 2 other bags totally ruining the use of all 3 bags - money down the drain. I would like to know if Miche stands behind their bags and replaces damaged goods. All of my bags were purchased new from representatives at different parties and also at a Miche store here in Hooksett NH

These last 2 comments may be true, however I wanted to give you an update as well. Miche has been operating under a new CEO since December 2013. They have greatly improved the process, and have switched jewelry suppliers because of quality defects. Their new compensation plan and quality are amazing, and I encourage you to take a fresh look at Miche. The company is as strong as ever, with a presence at the Oscar's, and with new national advertising. This is an exciting time in this business, and I am grateful to be involved in this company! I have been a customer since 2011, and I have been selling these since January 2014. I have quite the collection now, and have been impressed with the level of customer service since I became a representative. I can't speak to that prior to this year since I never had a problem or complaint with any of my other purchases, so I never needed to call customer service. Anyway, I hope you all will be willing to take a look at the new Miche, and contact a local representative to see and test the new products before purchase. I think you will be delighted to find that the quality and designs to be quite good, made to last for years to come.
Have a wonderful day, all of you! :-)

They also screwed their inventory reps. I was one of them. Now they're all about conferences for the top people. It's a pyramid scheme at best. I'm getting out, as fast as I can.

pursemogul - You forgot to mention how Miche screwed all of its distributors when they changed models. Miche left many of their distributors holding tens of thousand of dollars of stock with no way to get rid of it. The company appears to be on the verge of bankruptcy and continues to produce an inferior product. They even tried jewelry (major failure) to try to force their former distributors and reps to choose between representing Miche and Origami Owl (hint: Miche lost that battle). There is completely incompetent management at the top and total lack of respect for the original supporters who made them what they are. When they go out of business, it's because of their own stupidity and lack of ethics!

I know this post is quite old but being that is still ranking very high on search engines, I thought I would add an update. As of April 30 2012, Miche no longer operates under the business model that was in place when these issues occurred. Now there’s a LOT more accountability for reps and their business practices. They have addressed all the issues that Tina mentioned and Miche is now stronger than ever with very bright future. Miche now handles all inventory, shipping, credit card transactions sales tax etc so the rep is no longer responsible for these expenses. Miche has taken great strides to improve customer satisfaction and offers a 90-day return policy on all defective merchandise as well as a 30-day return policy if you’re just not happy with the purchase. However, the purchase must be made through an authorized representative in order to qualify for a return. Reps are not allowed to sell on ebay so if you purchase a bag or a shell from ebay, you can assume it’s not coming from an authorized rep. For an ebay purchase, you are beholden to the terms of the ebay listing simply because, Miche can no longer guarantee the integrity of that particular product. Who knows what the seller did to it or if it’s even a genuine Miche product. If an item is purchased from a rep and you’re still within the warranty period, you must first contact the rep you purchased the product from. If you don’t receive any response from them or they aren’t willing to help, then you can call Miche Customer Service and they will track your order and contact that reps upline to find someone to take care of you. I have been a Miche rep for almost two years now and am now a Managing Director. I believe 100% in the product. Please don’t write them off based on one bad experience with a questionable rep or an ebay seller that doesn’t have to adhere to Miche’s quality of service. To find out more about the new business and products, you can go to my site at handbagsbydesign-dot-com. I hope my comments help.

As a Miche bag representative I will not honor any product warranty if not purchased from me, within Miche guidelines, and I absolutely won't help someone that gets burned online via an ebay seller. There's a reason the company doesn't want it's product sold on ebay and amazon---buyer beware---you don't know what you're getting from ebay-whether you're buying mary kay, avon, scentsy, or a volvo, you're trying to get a "deal' that might not really be a "deal".

@ tina mays [protected] browns ferry rd. chattanooga, tenn. 37419 we have freedom of speech...First of all, did you go to school? Your incorrigible grammar and incoherent rambling makes it nearly impossible to understand at what it is you are truly upset. Is that your telephone number and address you threw out there too? How bizarre! I'll be honest with you, until you take an intelligent approach and communicate like an educated adult, I don't think your point has a chance of coming across as perhaps you envision it. Want to give it another shot?

T.mays...Miche has guidelines for the Distributor to follow and just this yr one of those were either you have a 25% Commision Sales Rep or a 40% Inventory Carrying Sales Rep. All my Sales Reps are 40% I.C.Sales Rep. No more or no less.. just a FYI.. If you would like more information or have any questions you can email me jennifermichebagsatyahoodotcom. Miche Bag straps

I purchased a Miche bag and am satisfied with the bag, but I also received a "free set of longer straps". The only way the straps are usable is to take the bag to a shoemaker, have the short straps cut off, and then have the longer straps sewn on, since there is no way to switch them out. I guess that proves that something free is worth what you pay for it.

I have several different colors of Miche bags but only one black shoulder strap. I only want shoulder straps. I have a red, white & blue bag, a yellow bag, a green bag, a tan bag & a black bag. I have only ever used the black one because that is the only one the strap looks good with. What good is it to have the other bags if I cant use them? Any suggestions? peggiea@att.net

the person who thinks you have to cut off the straps must have no common sense. it is very easy to see that the rings open. if she would have asked the seller when she could not figure it out or called miche she would have known for sure. no-one is gonna make a purse that you cut off straps and the shoe store must not have any better sense either. i think they need to spend some time in school.

What looks like a solid metal ring linking the handle or strap to the bag is actually a round carabiner. (Carabiners are usually oblong, and are often used by mountain climbers for their ropes and gear.) It opens and closes by way of a hidden hinge. If you spin the ring around and look closely at either side, you'll find the hinge. Then press the ring from the perimeter towards the center--you may have to try this on both sides of the hinge--and you will find that a section of the ring about half an inch long will open up wide. Slide your handles off and on at this point. :-)

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Miche Bag handles. You can actually change them by opening the carabineer (metal ring) that hooks the bag to the handle.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact me at [protected]. I would be more then happy to assist you with changing your handles.
