So I ordered my siding from Menards. Pointed to the sample wall and told them I wanted that one - the Khaki Dutchlap siding. Two weeks later I picked it up and brought it home. Opened it the next day to find that it wasn't Dutchlep, it was the regular stuff. Went to the store to get it straightened out and was told they'd take it back, but with a 15% restocking fee. What the hell? This was their mistake, not mine, I didn't type the order up. The manager said I should have been able to decipher their order sheet and see that it didn't say Dutchlap before I paid for it.
I wrote letters to the store and to corporate but no response. They've just lost a customer whose been spending about $1200 a year there for the past 11 years. Many of their employees recognize me. But they'll never see me again. Lucky for me, I have a Home Depot about 2 miles away.

I ordered 42' attic trusses to be delivered to the job site , I paid the delivery fee and when it came time for delivery they tell me the road weight is 10 ton and they cant deliver. three options, I pick up the trusses at the plant.( ya sure like I have a 42' trailer.) #2 hire a company to deliver them on my own , oh ya they will give the contact info. What the heck! #3 They can drop the trusses some where along the way. $ 6400.00 order. I cant get my trusses, what a sad way to treat a customer. I have been in this field for 40 years and have never not have trusses delivered to the job site. they are trying to put it in my lap. How pathetic .

I always thought delivery of a washer meant bring it to the home and put it in the basement! Not at Menards! A $102 delivery charge will get you a washing machine delivered to your garage. Yep, that's what I said. Who in the #$@% wants a washer delivered to their garage? Oh, and for an additional $20 the guys will bring it inside the home. Why don't they just charge whatever the fee is upfront for delivery instead of surprising people with an additional charge when the merchandise is delivered.

Just curious, did you contact the store and give them a chance fix the problem?

The Menards employees trolling on here obviously don't understand customer service. I am a contractor and your attitude is why I am done with Menards. I get better service and better quality at Lowes. You're going to lose customers one at a time. BTW, you can stick your "restocking" fee and your glorious "rebates" in the hole!

I went to Menard's to get retaining wall block they quoted me, and when I got there they would not honor their quote of 79 cents per block, they wanted 89 cents. Even though I had it in writing that they had 79 cents just 2 weeks ago. I even went there twice and talked to the manger, and they still wouldn't sell it to me at that price. They said their quotes are only good for 24hrs, -how do you plan and finance a landscaping project in 24hrs? I even emailed Menard's main office and told them this, they didn't seem to need my business very bad. (Here is their email to me -"I am very sorry we let you down. We need and appreciate your business.
> However, any quotes given are only valid for a 24 hour period, prices are
> subject to change. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
>> Best Regards, Ray")

So I went to Lowe's and they priced matched the same kind of block at 79 cents instantly and with no problem. So I have 407 block coming from Lowe's instead. --- So to hell with Menard's.

If you are dumb enough to shop at Menards confine your purchases to simple things like garbage bags anything else is just poor quality junk.

I am a general contractor and 2 years ago I spent about $70, 000 dollars with menards. I built a 9, 000 sq ft building and the customer wanted me to use menards for the trusses and I didn't want to but did anyway. menards has their own truss company in Eau Clair, Wis. The trusses came damaged and made incorrectly. I have had this happen before so I asked my go to guy at menards how are we going to solve this. I was told if I repaired the trusses and filled out the blue sheet they would reimburse me. Some of the trusses were even re engineered by menards and I made the repairs to the tune of $5, 200.00 Needless to say we ended up in court and I lost because in the documents when you order products like these state they will replace the product but not pay to have it repaired. So I was to stop the project return the product and wait 5-6 weeks for the correct product to be made and shipped back to me. These last 2 years I have moved by biz to Lowes and have had excellent customer service less problems and have found out the prices are even better at Lowes. So I guess i am saying shop around there are better deals and better product and service out there

my first time going to Menards since I moved here from Cali. had to drive all the way to Bismarck, ND since thats the only one close to where I live which is 3 hours 150 miles away. I bought a window AC. I didnt think to open the box and look inside since It was new.But I should of. drove all the way back home to get the box opend and seen it was dented on the top plus the electric cords were hanging out. I called Menards telling them what was wrong. I asked if they had another one I could just exchange with, on the phone they were all nice and helpful. they said yes since I bought it damaged they would make it good. well they lied to me. when I got to the store they told me to ask for the manager who is Jim. when I told him about the AC being damaged he waled off not saying a word. when we first got there they were 4 people in that dept working. all of the sudden they were no oen around. My husband and I stood there for a long time before a gal finally came out who was very rude saying I they weretn going to replace the AC also I wasnt going to get my money back. we had only had it for 5 days. what a waste of 391.63 this was. I now have a AC that dotn work and Im stuck with it. this was my first and last time I will ever step foot in a Menards. BUYER BEWARE, when you buy any thing thats in a box. make sure you open it up before you buy it. if its damages at least they may exchange it for another one, if you take it home and find it damaged YOU ARE STUCK WITH IT...

As a former manager at Menards, I will say that I made more than $10 an hour. As for their American made products, they do have an assortment of companies owned by Menards who manufacture for Menards and produce in America, mainly in Wisconsin. As far as comments on irrate customers and special orders, D4 vs D4D, if you point to the wall and say I want that, no matter what you say, I can guarantee if I was working with you, I asked you several times regarding the difference, and you insisted on D4...I mean the stuff on the wall, because I know what I'm talking about...I was burned several times by people who said one thing, which I knew was wrong, and were offended when I tried to correct them. Then of course it's my fault when they come back to return their special order as the wrong item. Just because you educated yourself, or your contractor educated you on what Dutchlap is doesn't mean that is what you said when you ordered it, pointing at a display and saying "I want that" is all to common the worst thing that a team member can hear, and I trained my people to push for more specifics, that didn't always happen. Whatever, I have repect for anyone that works retail or customer service, that is a rough way to make a living. There is a complete lack of decency, courtesy and respect these days, and in my 33 years of life, I have never seen that more than when I was in the retail business.

MENARDS SUCKS! But it's because they are one of the biggest China distributers in the country. Your there working for less than ten bucks an hr because the companies that would pay you 20.00 hr are in China now. They are going to stay there until people quit going to Menards, Homedepot, lowes and Walmart and buying the no quality garbage!
FACT; If you want job security in this country, go work at a landfill. The stores listed above are keeping them very busy.
Menards needs a sign out front saying "now selling 11 billion chinese items daily"
All American sales...lmao..."Almost" took up 2 pages out of 12 in thier last weekly add with American made items. Thats like 100 semi's of China trash to one pickup full of American items.

I've worked for Menards for almost 12 years...terrible company. However, that being said, why the hell would our gate guards help you load your crap or get stuff off a shelf for you? They aren't MENARDS security, they are a contracted third party corporation. If I, say, owned a Best Buy and hired y0u to be...let's say a contractor to work on the shop lights, would you go help guests load TV's and stereo systems? Doubftul.

$1, 200.00 a year x 11 years...so you've spent a whopping $13, 200.00 there? I sell to contractors, and regular shoppers, who drop that in a day and don't batt an eye...and THEY don't even toss their expenses out like that.

I could go on and on about how terrible the company is, but one of my chief complaints as an employee are the customers, especially the ones who think because they are spending $1, 200.00 a year that somehow I should be LUCKY to "have a job in this economy"...go pound sand. If you think you're entitled to be a ### and not listen to us half the time then whine simply because they pay me $10.00/hr, you're out of your damn mind.

Goodluck at Home Depot...they're no better than Menards or Lowes.

The only thing good about Menards is the quality of their ceiling fan selection. (Yeah, so they have one good buyer in the whole corporation!)
Customer service there sucks. I walk around with my baby boy in my arms and I gotta flag down the highschoolers to get some assistance, and they all look butt-hurt because I asked them to do their job.
Also, the security guards won't assist you (like to get anything off a high shelf or load your car), but they walk around you and make sure you don't damage their merchandise. Absolutely worthless. Customer disservice.

I bought a mower at Menards. The 2nd time I mowed the blade came off. I put it back on and it came loose within seconds. But their policy states that once it's been removed from the box, gas has been put in it and it's been used it has to be taken to get serviced at one of their certified places. Which in my case is an hour away. Since when is this my problem. Now I have to go out of my way to get it serviced. If they sell a brand doesn't that mean they stand behind the product? Their return policy sucks. I will never buy anything there again. And there online customer service sucks too. I would have gotten a better response from a 2 yr old.

I disagree with the manager, the regular siding is described as "D4" on the invoice and dutchlap is described as "D4D." Not that much different, and it's an easy (and common) mistake for even a moderately experienced team member to make when writing up orders. Most customers wouldn't know the difference.

That being said, the dutchlap is more expensive than regular siding so you should have realized something was amiss when the price on your order was lower than the price posted on the wall. Unless your one of those lucky people who, unlike yours truly, has so much money that they don't pay attention to what they pay for things. I once caught a cashier error where a guy bought a single outlet box and the cashier rang it up as a box of 100. It was the only thing he purchased on the transaction but somehow didn't balk at paying $46 for something that should have been .46. Unfortunately he paid cash so we couldn't credit his card back for the difference, and he never caught the error and came back to get it fixed.

When I was an assistant GM at Menards and this sort of thing happened, I usually just took care of the problem if the guest was decent about it and just wanted to exchange the wrong product for the right one. I wasn't there so I can't say if that was the case or not. And on the other hand, you did sign on the line that says that you are responsible for what is being ordered, so the manager really did nothing wrong. So it really does become a judgment call.

Final point, mabaeb is absolutely correct. We have little old ladies who spend way more than $1200 a year on cheap rebate crap, so mentioning that you spend that amount isn't going to garner you any favors.

1200 a year! wow i'm sure they are going to miss you. they have so many contractors there, some spending a 1200 a week or even day
