To Whom It May Concern, I have quietly been aware of the issues on this site for years. I have been advised by my atty not to say anything, however I have made the decision to stand my ground and tell people the truth. It is obvious to me that I am damned if I do and damned if I don't. Complaint Board has issued personal threats to me and their website...

Melissa Zobell-WONDERFUL dog rescuer. I just adopted a dog from Melissa and have not one regret. The beautiful cavalier rescue is exactly as she promised. He is sweet, loving and has obviously been well cared for and loved. Melissa went above and beyond to unite this precious soul with me. She made arrangements for his flight from UTAH to ATLANTA. I wa...

Melissa Zobell Puppy Mill!

Melissa Zobell used to run the Australian Shepherd Rescue of Utah. I heard numerous stories of her harassing people about not spaying/neutering their dogs and I even had a friend who received hate mail from her stating the reasons why dogs should be spayed/neutered and the statistics on pets that were put down each year in shelters. She was banned from the Petco and Petsmart here in Utah County because of her unprofessional attitude and all the complaints filed against her. She was even banned from the local shelters!
Read this story, http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4188/is_20060214/ai_n16226186/
Today, Melissa has over 30 dogs and is breeding them to make her house payments. She is creating designer dogs (pom-a-poos, yorkie-poos, mini aussies, ect.) and charging ridiculous prices ($600-$1200) for these mixed breed dogs. She claims they are "health tested" which means they are seen by a vet (her colleague) and they are current on vaccinations. Non of these dogs are tested for genetic disorders or even screened for eyes, hips or knee problems. To top it all off, she runs her business out of Animal Medical Services and showcases the animals in their adoption center. She no longer supports animal rescue and instead contributes to the over pet population. Melissa should be reported for hoarding animals! Nobody should ever breed dogs as mush as she does. It should be a crime.

I just want to apologize and retract my original comment that was made. It has taken years for me to realize that what I had said was not only unfair but completely false. I was immature and I worked with a bunch of people that were not good influences. I did not know Melissa personally and I based my opinion of her on what I had heard through the grape vine. She did not deserve this and has had to live with the consequences of my wrong doing. I know Melissa deeply cares for her dogs and she has come a long way and will do anything to ensure the safety and health of her dogs and children. She goes above and beyond to make sure her dogs are well taken care of and does every health test imaginable. If you are considering one of Mellisa's dogs please don't base your decision on a thread that was started by a stupid, young girl who didn't have the facts. Please do your own research and get to know Melissa for yourself. I only wish I had done the same before causing so much permanent damage to someone who has done so much for Australian Shepherds.

Very difficult to deal with if it’s not exactly her way. Moody person and seems to get mad easy.

I think it is pretty funny. Looking at her facebook and looking at her website, she is a puppymill that tests dogs to not be called a puppymill. She never breeds dogs outside her own breeding. That says volumes. How old are these dogs before they are bred? I know for a fact only a few years ago, she bred ### before they were 2 and when they hit 2, she sold them not to do the ofa. Seriously, ...now she throws pictures up of the ofa's completed like she turns a new leaf? She is crazy..just crazy. There is direct, but this lady is crazy.

I have had numerous problems with this breeder I first found her on a facebook group. I asked to if I could come to her home to see parents and puppies she said no because of risk of parvo. That she would meet me at a gas station. Then I was told by a petco employee about her rescue I said why not its a rescue I'll meet her at petco so I called she informed me she is not longer rescuing at this time then a few minutes later calls me back telling me she has two 4month old Aussie males price reduced one she decided not to keep and the other a family back out because his testicles went back up so couldn't be a breeding dog. I later got on her facebook page and seen how many litters she was expecting just in October. This lady is a bad deal.

I do know that Melissa is breeding these designer dogs. I have heard from her own kids say that they have over 35 dogs at their house in Hidaway Valley, down in Sanpete County. I have also heard it from her neighbors that live out by her that she has way too many dogs. I have talked to people that have gotten rescue dogs from her and they have had the same stories or complaints as the people who have posted here. I am sure some have had a good experience but there are many who have not had a good experience. People need to be aware of who they get their dogs from and ask to see the health certificates and things upfront. If people would do their homework it would save them a lot of heart ache. It is sad but most of the what I have seen and also witnessed first hand from Melissa has not been good, not to say that there can be good endings out there. People please just do your homework first when dealing with her.

I just recently purchased a year old dog from Melissa and Carolynn. I must say that my little Ava is an excellent dog! I have had poms shipped before and some I have got were not as descibed. But the one I purchased from Melissa is EXACTLY as they said. She is very sweet, cuddly, healthy, good teeth and knees.not house trained but they warned me about that! Yes Melissa comes across as pushy but wouldn't you if you had to deal with people that were not serious and just wasted your time? I would recommend Melissa!

I worked with Melissa a few years ago. I have never been to her house, but from what she's described, the set up there sounds pretty good for her dogs. That said, she can be either incredibly rude to people or quite nice depending on her mood. Her moods are very unpredictable, which is what makes her so difficult to work with. She blows little things out of proportion and will yell about almost anything. It doesn't suprise me at all that she took a rescue dog and used it for breeding. She breeds way too much. Her dogs may be nice, but I wouldn't recommend going to her because she is so rude and unpredictable, and I don't think it's a good idea too support someone who over-breeds, and she definitely breeds too much.

Rescues hate her because she breeds and Breeders hate her because she rescues. All you negative people need to stop talking about things you know nothing about. If Melissa was really rude to you it's probably because you're stupid. It's hard to deal with stupid people day in and day out. So before you go slandering online you should really do some research.

I can see that this lady is posting good reviews in her defense. I also am a rescue coordinator in Utah and I can say that this lady is bad news in the community. She can say whatever she wants but she is rude and claims her motives are for saving all the dogs and cats that are put down, but she is over populating by breeding herself. There are many complaints to disprove that her dogs are checked for health issues and genetic problems. In regards to being a puppy mill, I can not say one way or the other, as she does not let people come to her home, most are sold through where she works. Just because you purchase a dog through a vet office does not mean that the dog does not have any genetic issues or not harboring diseases or other things. There are good vets and bad vets so keep this in mind. There are honest and dishonest people. They can claim to be a part of the rescue organization but just like anything, there are good and bad people. Melissa just happens to be one that we wish did not represent the rescue community. She gives rescue a bad name. She has been run out of town, banned from many places, and many have had a bad experience and run ins with her. Her actions do not represent what a true rescue person should be doing, or how they should be operating. Rescue should be for the good of the many animals that are put down each year, finding them good homes, not harassing people for their beliefs, or being rude to those people that are wishing to adopt a rescue animal. She is well known in these parts, but not for all the good she does but all the bad things. Don't let this person represent the rescue organizations in this area or others across the country, there are many people that devote their time for the greater good, and we are not breeders, contributing to the problem. Whether buying a pet from a breeder or adopting from a rescue, do your research online and see if there are any complaints on the person or organization, do your homework. We do not want the animals to suffer needlessly and want to find good homes for all, but it should be a good experience for a family adopting a new pet, not a horrible one that Melissa puts all these families through. We all wish she would just crawl in a hole and leave the rescue to professionals that love what they do, can interact with people, have people skills, and their hearts are in the right place. Melissa does not have any of these skills. Check your local area shelters and adopt a loving pet, it should be a good experience with the rescue coordinator, and you should not have to pay an arm and leg for the adoption, the adoption should include all shots, neuter/spay. You should not have to come back and be told that you have to pay out more money for additional shots, that should be included with the adoption fee.
