My story with Mary's Cocker Haven in Colorado Springs started two months ago when I was looking for 2 new blue puppies to add to my blood lines. I came across Mary's website and saw that she had just had a litter of blue puppies. Her website looked good and so did the dogs and she also has written on her website that she is a very reputable breeder. And I do like to try to trust people in this world although it can be very hard. Mary and I also spoke on the phone so I went ahead and put a deposit on both of the puppies. I paid well over 3000.00 to get these puppies. Mary had told me several times she would update me with pictures of the puppies but it was like pulling teeth to get any pictures from her. I bought the puppies when they were 2 weeks old and I never saw a picture until they were 6 weeks old and only a frontal shot of them. Those were the only pictures I ever got to see after being promised weekly updates, which was of course one of the reasons that I chose her as a breeder because I like to have those pictures just like everybody else does and that is something I do for all of my buyers. For some reason I was getting a very strong gut instinct that this was not going to work out good for me and sure enough I was right. The night before the puppies were supposed to be shipped to my friend in Texas who was going to keep them for me until I could drive down to get them, Mary phones me and tells me that the female puppy has a lung infection and cannot be shipped at least for another week because she needs antibiotics. I found this to be very strange because puppies do not get colds like that for no reason they usually have kennel cough and that's about it there are other lung infections but not cold that would be in the lungs. I felt that this was very strange and was getting very concerned about these puppies but what could I do she has all of my money now. Another week goes by before shipping and now she ships these puppies to Dallas Texas where my friend picks them up and my friend gets the puppies and lo and behold now I know why the dog was put on antibiotics. It was not for their lungs at all it was because they have a bacterial infection all over their bodies. Their coat condition out of a 1 to 10 is a 2 tops. They also have big chunks of hair missing from a scraping that was done by their veterinarian that I was never told about. The puppies are also very shy and timid and are nowhere up to par for breeding dogs. The dogs have been taken to the veterinarian another $250 that I had to put out for vet and gas which I should not have and to do. I have ask them to reimburse me and they are ignoring me of course what else would you expect. I am so disgusted with this kind of thing that is why I'm putting it on my website I don't want other people to have to go through this because its extra money and it is heartbreaking to see puppies that were so poorly taken care of because the veterinarian believes that's what is wrong with them was poor conditions poor food just lack of care. I cannot say for sure if this is a puppy mill but I can definitely say it is very poor backyard breeder. So I would like to warn people not to buy dogs from this lady unless you can actually go see them for yourself to make sure they are healthy that goes for her cocker spaniels as well as her doxies. I am posting pictures of the puppies when they were received right from shipping time. The puppies are being put on antibiotics a special ointment for their skin and special shampoos and food. and we are working to get them more socialized.

Mary don't be sorry for my dog's, they all have access to my house, they are PET's not money earner's. Fed up with reading these stories. Like I said the truth will come out.I do have proof of my words. I wasn't the only one who is witnessed the stacked cages. Don't drag me into the fact that you sold puppies that were ill. When I write on here I use my name. Not Red alert . Thee replies are coming from the same web address just different storie's.

Cockers have been part of our lives for over 25 years, and we badly wanted a third generation to join us after losing Maggie. We completed an extensive breeder search and found Mary's website. We were drawn to her site by the "pureness" of the pictures and description of care in raising puppies. Mary invited us to come see a new litter when they were only three days old! We immediately fell in love with two sisters from a beautiful mother and father. Mary kept in touch with us throughout our eight week "waiting period", and we came to visit them on three occasions. The living conditions for their puppies is clean, calm, and very loving. The adult dogs lived in a mechanical building that was well insulated with air conditioning and heat. We loved the fact that her dogs were so loving and very well behaved. We did not see any cages stacked as this lady claimed. There were four stalls 15 by 70 feet long so they had the freedom to run. Each stall had a red electrical water filter to where you can let out water and it refills itself. Each stall had a huge food dispenser so the food was not on the ground. We saw bags of Taste of the Wild Grain-Free Puppy and Adult Food that were nicely shelved. When we drove to their house the neighbor that lived across from them had a lot of dogs that were continually barking the whole time that we were there. You wouldn't even know that Mary had any dogs as they were so well-behaved. It was the neighbor across from them that had all of there dogs barking. We felt sorry for them as it looked like they didn't have any shelter. The puppies were very well-socialized, and we encountered no separation anxiety when we brought them home. Both are energetic, healthy, and amazingly well-mannered as babies. Our family is extremely fortunate to have found Mary, and gladly refer her to anyone looking for a puppy raised in a truly loving, caring environment.

Mary, I WAS there looking after the alpaca herd. You had an agreement wath the previous owners that their animals could stay there with ME looking after them. There are three stalls in that barn where by two of them were shared by 5 male alpaca. The third stall was meant to be open for the rest of the herd for shelter. Firstly YOU shut the barn door's so the 5 males no longer had access to water or shelter, then you shut out the rest of the herd so they no longer had shelter. From the first day you moved into that house you made it very clear you did not want me there. I used to enter the barn through the office which by now had been stacked with cages housing 12 dog's in 5 cage's, the temperature in there must have been 100 degrees and smelt so bad. There was a pile of food on the floor that was there for days You then used to watch for me coming over and opened the big barn doors to prevent me going through the "office", and you made sure there were dog's in the pen in the barn. I am definately not a liar and now who ever Rudy is has witnessed similar conditions. You claim that your dogs are raised with your children, they are all grown and you have children visit!. Why do you have the radio blaring all night in the barn, is it to drown the barking of the dog's?. Finally you decided to break the agreement with the previous owners and they had to drive from West Virginia collect their animals and take them to a friend of their's in Fort Collins- This was now December with snow on the ground!. Beneful was the food of choice at that time also, and there were FIVE breeds of dog present as you know. I am sure this would not portray you as a "Hobby Breeder". They are your main source of income. As you know I have dogs but they ARE part of my family and I have a Vet come to my house would you?. You also claim to have champion bloodlines, how many generations back are those, do you show your dog's? most good breeder's do, I know a few and they don't breed at every cycle. You don't have compassion for you animals, all you see are dollar signs, which was obvious the first time I met you $60, 000.00 I think you quoted thats alot of dogs. I could go on but only advertising dogs on the internet, well make your own conclusion. My puppies were ALL sold from my house.

HI my name is Mary aka Mary’s Cocker Haven. I’m amazed on how these individual think it’s alright to ruin my reputation. What gives them the right to say things about my program when they never have visited my Ranch? We bought a gorgeous seven acre ranch located in Peyton, Colorado. We bought this ranch just for our dogs so that they can live a good life without being in cages. They are housed in a climate control mechanical building which is both air conditioned and heated. The dog runs are 15 x 70 feet long so they have the freedom to run. The reason they are in dog runs is we live in the country to where there are little [censored]ly thorns everywhere which can burrow in their fur and hurt their feet.
I thank the Lord every day for giving me the opportunity to bring joy into other people’s lives. It is so magical to see life come into this world. I always ask myself how can you not believe in GOD? The Lord has entrusted me to make sure that once these puppies are born that we take the time to make sure that they are healthy, well-structured animals with great temperaments and excellent early socialization. We devote our lives and resources to make sure that they have the proper shelter. We put in twenty-hour days giving our puppies everything and then wake up three times during the night to check on them. Do these individual see the days and nights that we stay up trying to save a puppy? Do they see the times that we have helped others save their dogs? Do they see the vet bills that we have incurred as we feel it is our responsibility from the time these puppies are born until they go home to their families to make sure that they get the proper care and vaccinations? Do they see the work that goes into screening and placing and taking back dogs? Our dogs/puppies are feed high quality expensive Taste of the Wild Grain Free Smoked Salmon Puppy or Adult dog food. All of our puppies/dogs are given NuVet a high supplement that helps a dog or puppy’s immune system. We couldn’t do our program without our family. This is a family business. My husband’s parents have three of our girls. My nephew has three of our girls. My sister in-law has two of our girls. Our dogs and puppies are raised in our home with our children and cherished as any family member would be. I promise to provide not only a healthy, but also well socialized puppy that will become a treasure in your home.
The internet can be a great resource of information; however, you can’t believe everything you read. Do your research. We have nothing to hide.
You are welcome to come over to our Ranch anytime to see our puppies/dogs. If you do not live in Colorado we use Skype or Face time so that clients can see our puppies via webcam. We can give you references of clients who have adopted my puppies and you are welcome to contact my vet. You are welcome to visit our website at http://www.maryscockerhven.com for more information and pictures of our puppies/dogs.

Mary: Anytime anyone wants to contact me to discuss the process of adoption from you, they can definitely contact me. I will be more than happy to share the experience from beginning to end. As I mentioned to you, Coco Chanel is one of the best girls I have ever adopted. The health of her is perfect and my holistic vets are very amazed by her. I should know because I have lived through one puppy mill and one really poor breeder.

Glad some one has seen the conditions. Most of the dogs are kept in the barn, barking all day and night. She has also ( by a previous post given veterinary advice ?). C'mon people WAKE UP.

Mary's Cocker Haven is no haven at all. Hell on earth to be exact. Ask to see her back room with floor to ceilings dogs in crates barking all day and night. Her husband actually does the tail docking himself - a plumber. Do not buy any animals here. Check out her website with the 'awards' she has 'won.' These are photoshopped from the web.

Rudy983. I adopted a gorgeous cocker spaniel from Mary. When I set out to adopt a pet, I do my due diligence. She was referred to me by another reputable breeder. Her awards are not photoshopped from the web, they are hers and hers alone. She has earned those and it takes a lot of time and patience to breed excellent and healthy dogs. I think it is shameful to slander another person. As many times as Mary and I have spoken on the phone I have never ever heard her dogs bark in the background. I adopted a girl from an actual puppy mill and it was sick everyday for the 12 years I had her. So I guess ask someone who actually has dealt with a mill as you speak of. I saw her set up and it is not as you say it is.

Every one knows that Lowrider miniature dachshunds are disgruntled breeders, and are very jealous of other breeders. The breeder that posted this, Lowrider mini dachshunds is located in Canada. Lowriders are so worried other breeders are taking away their customers, that they are willing and desperate enough to fabricate and upload these tall tales. The real reason this post is here and uploaded is because lowrider mini dachshunds can't stand COMPETITION! SHAME on Lowrider mini dachshunds! It is in their name folks...LOW-rider mini Dachshunds. The thought of competition must just bother lowrider mini dachshunds terribly. lowriders should change their name to crazy lady dachshunds. looool. Lowriders have posted other breeders to this site. Crazy lady has posted adorable mini dachshunds. she lies and makes up all kinds of stories, she fakes pictures and stuff. lowriderrs is horrible.

After several months of searching for a blue tan miniature dachshund, I came across Mary’s Cocker Haven’s website. I was poking around the website when I saw Muffin who is a blue tan miniature dachshund now is named Bonnie Blue. She was unlike any dachshund I had ever seen and I loved her immediately. You see, blue tan miniature dachshunds are extremely rare and you can’t find them so when I saw Muffin aka Bonnie Blue I knew I had to have her. Within a couple of days, I had asked every single question possible to ensure that Muffin was a good match for my home. Mary was kind and gracious throughout the whole process. Since I lived on a farm in the corner of South East Colorado which is a four hour drive one way I wanted to make sure that I was making the right decision. I use to breed miniature dachshunds a long time ago and I have decided to get back into breeding them again. In fact, I had just bought Coco who is a gorgeous Chocolate Long Hair miniature dachshund who was having severe diarrhea. The breeder that she came from didn’t respond to any of my phone calls and I just wanted to save her. Mary told me that if I wanted to make the drive that she would make up a medication care package for me. I literally drove four hours to see her. I have visited Mary aka Mary’s Cocker Haven. She lives on a gorgeous Ranch with 7 acres. It definitely is a “DOG HAVEN” as her dogs are well taken care of. If it wasn’t for Mary my Coco wouldn’t be here today. When I arrived home I followed her instructions and within four days my Coco went from being extremely sick to being normal. I bought a very sick puppy from a breeder and you don't see me trying to ruin this breeder's good name. The day I picked up Muffin aka Bonnie Blue I saw these two puppies that this lady from “LOWRIDER DOXIES” claims that were mistreated and/or bacterial infection all over their body. The little girl had what they call “Puppy Bites” on the top of her head that was it. Mary mentioned that this lady was a mental case. She even thought about giving this lady her money back and keeping them. She stated that she was going to get a letter from her vet stating that the puppies were healthy as she was worried that this lady would complain about the puppy bites. We are talking about puppy bites on the top of her head. Understand that veterinary always have to put terms that sound worse than what really is happening to the puppy. If you read the veterinaries letter from this lady aka “LOWRIDERDOXIES” it states that the puppy had hair loss and skin bumps (Superficial pyoderms) aka “Puppy Bites” otherwise the puppies were healthy. The hair loss from the scraping and skin bumps meaning puppy bites. They have to be careful as to how they interrupt the diagnosis so that they do not have a lawsuit. I am a witness as I saw these two puppies two days prior from them being shipped. These pictures that this lady has posted are NOT THE PUPPIES that I saw two days prior. This lady is trying to ruin Mary’s good name due to the fact that Mary is her competition. SHAME ON YOU! How dare you post this complaint? This lady threatened Mary that if she didn’t give her $3, 000.00 that she would ruin her name and put posting on the internet about her. This lady was trying to get two puppies for free. She thought that Mary would get intimated pay the money and keep the puppies to. As you can see this is exactly what she is doing right now. Mary was incredibly thoughtful and kind throughout the whole process. Honestly, I can't say enough positive things about working with Mary aka Mary’s Cocker Haven . In fact, I plan on adopting another miniature dachshund in the future! As you can see from my pictures Bonnie Blue is a healthy happy puppy and she comes from the same litter. as these two puppies that this lady is complaining about. SO PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE THIS CRAZY PERSON ABOVE “LOWRIDER DOXIES” as this person is a breeder who breeds miniature dachshund.. HELLO IT DOESN”T TAKE A ROCKET SCIENCE TO KNOW WHAT THIS PERSON IS UP TO!

She did put her name out there and misspoke about Mary. It is horrible to read these accusations which by the way are false, absolutely false. I am in touch with her and as busy as she is, she is always so gracious to return my calls. The other breeders I have adopted from are either out of business or the puppy mill I adopted from won't return my calls. "Love my Bonnie Blue", what a beautiful girl. You got a really good one. Her Cocker Spaniels are fabulous and very healthy. As I said in my other post, she is one of the best breeders in the Cocker Spaniel business. The woman from Canada should understand that accusing someone falsely is slander. I also plan on adopting and flying out to Mary's in the future as well. Those of us who have adopted from Mary are part of her business and we need to protect Mary like she is our family. I just want to say Mary those of us who have the privilege of adopting from and knowing you have your back and will dispute any negatives that come up on a thread like this, and including this thread.

I am not saying mary doesn't have a few nice dogs but why did she sell me these 2 puppies knowing I am a well known breeder In Canada and if she is infact a good breeder why did she lie to me about it all. I do not respect a breeder who lies or sells dogs for high prices and they come to you sick. I had to spend an additional 450.00 on these dogs to get them healthy. The vet said it was due to neglect and bad conditions.maybe the rest of you saw what they let you see. I had to resell these dogs as I would not use this quality in my breeding program so I lost out in time to replace my adults which is why I bought 2 and now had to start all over looking again. Plus I spend 450.00 more than I should have and had to find them homes. I lost allot o money also on the re sale as I couldn't sell them for same price I bought them they where terrible. They where also timid and shy so obviously not socialized properly. Maybe she cares more about her cockers and should stick to those. She has never offered to pay my vet bills either nor contact me or answer my emails so not reputable to me at all. Also all she ever talked about to me is how sick she was so she couldnt do pictures so maybe its time to get out of breeding as it shows in the quality of care.

Mary's Cocker Haven - Love her dogs

My name is Kathy and I have adopted two Cocker Spaniel’s from Mary aka Mary’s Cocker Haven. Dogs have been a large part of my life ever since I was a little girl. When my Daisy Mae passed away I was in so much pain as she was the love of my life. I came across Mary’s Cocker Haven and I was instantly in love as I could tell by her website that she truly loved her dogs. When I contacted Mary she was so sympathetic as she listened to me talk about my Daisy Mae for almost an hour or so. She stated that she just had a litter of puppies and immediately emailed me pictures of the puppies. There was one particular puppy that I instantly feel in love with. I had never seen a puppy like her- a cocker spaniel puppy with chocolate speckles and an exquisite white coat. She told me she was a chocolate merle. I instantly fell in love with her. Needless to say, after losing our 13 year companion, Daisy Mae, in September, 2011, I couldn’t imagine any other dog. Maggie Mae, however, helped us heal. She is an amazing dog with piercing blue eyes. I adopted another puppy a year later and we named her Molly. Mary, I don’t want to go without saying how much I appreciate you. You helped me through a difficult time in my life and I not only gained two members to our family, but I have gained a terrific friend. I love our phone chats, and you really helped me during my sadness after losing Daisy. I have known Mary for almost four years now. When Mary told me that she had just purchased a new Ranch with 7 acres for her dogs, I was thrilled. I, recently visited Mary’s new Ranch in Peyton, Colorado and if I was a dog I would be in heaven. These individuals who are making these claims above are just jealous and are trying to hurt her good name. Mary truly loves her dogs and they have their own house with 7 acres of land to run freely. A “PuppyMill” is place where cages are stacked high to where dogs are living in filth with feces everywhere and these poor dogs live in small cages to where they have never seen day light. A "Puppy Mill" is a place where the dogs are sick and they have had no human interaction. Mary’s Cocker Haven is a place where dogs are loved and they are given the best of care. They are free to run and play. The only thing I can say is if you are searching for the perfect Cocker Spaniel puppy then stop by her place and visit. You will instantly fall in love as her place is definitely a “Dog Haven.”

I couldn't agree with you more. I adopted my beautiful Cocker Spaniel puppy, named Cordelia but now her name is Coco Chanel. I searched and searched for a puppy, a solid chocolate brown. I was given her name by another breeder that breeds champion bloodline puppies. I contacted her and we had a very nice chat. I told her what I was looking for and she had one come up for adoption due to a gentleman that changed his mind on the color. I put the deposit down only because she was referred to by another top of the line breeder of champion dogs. I flew out to pick her up to bring home. My puppy is in perfect health, she is very smart and has caught on to everything right away. She was climbing stairs at 8 weeks with no prompting, she started fetching and retrieving the day i brought her home, which was to the surprise of my hunter in the family. She is in the best health and was very social the day I introduced her to our family. She is NOT afraid of anything and plays constantly. I can tell you from experience that I adopted a dog from a puppy mill twelve years ago and was sick every day of her life, so I know what that practice is all about. To the woman who accused Mary of bad breeding practices, To accuse Mary of being a "puppy Mill" you had better have all of your facts before you put out a statement like that. It is a very serious accusation indeed. Mary is very caring and very serious about her breeding practices and I know she raises only top of the line quality animals. Mary was available every single day up to the adoption day, she has been available even after the adoption and weeks after I brought Coco home. Those are not the traits of a "Puppy Mill" operator. With a puppy mill you never ever hear from them again. Mary, from a person that adores and protects my animals, thank you for being one of the best breeders of Cocker Spaniels. I will be adopting when Max passes way.

I am really not surprised!. I live near the breeding facility, A BARN zip code 80831. The puppies are then taken to 80909. The common term for this is Puppy Mill I believe.

I am sorry, but Mary does not run a puppy mill. I know her and flew to Colorado Springs and she is far from what you refer to as a puppy mill. To put a review out there like this is very wrong indeed.

I am very sorry to hear about any problems that the above buyer has encountered and hope that your puppies are healing well and thriving. As a cocker lover (and of dogs in general) I have been following Mary and her dogs for a few years, watching her website, phone calls and even visiting her home, twice. I am finally ready to add a new puppy to our family and am excited to be picking up our little girl this Friday, 5/25/15. I will be happy to report the conditions that I find after pick-up, but for now I wanted to add my observations about Mary and her dogs/puppies pre pick-up. First, I will comment on her breeding dogs, they are just gorgeous and as friendly as can be. I did not find them shy or timid at all. In fact, one of the mommas tried to jump into our car as we were leaving as if to say "I wanna go for a ride too". Neglected/abused dogs would never be that willing to just jump into a car with a stranger, tail wagging and all. Now, have I seen every dog in her breeding program, no, of couse not, but I have seen at least 4 females and 1 male in the last 3 years, including the most recent 6 weeks ago. Now for the puppies, absolutely adorable! On my first visit (a couple years ago) there were about 8 puppies in a large play yard, all very active and social. My young son and I spent about an hour playing with those cute babies and Mary was very friendly and happily showed me her puppies and their parents who were all on the premesis. Did the puppies stink like a puppy does, sure. Were the parents washed, stripped and prepped for the show ring, no. Were there any signs of neglect, unhappiness, bugs, unclean conditions, NO WAY. The "conditions" that I saw were equal to any family dogs that I have owned or have seen through family/friends in my life time. They were loved and cared for. Jump to the most recent visit, 6 weeks ago. Again, puppies and parents are all on premesis. My husband and I toured inside and outside and I can tell you that there was not a mistreated or neglected dog anywhere. We were shown a brand new whelping building, right next to the main house, that is roofed, insulated and had heating and air-conditioning. We went inside of the whelping room to see the new born babies and there was no foul smell or feces, just comfortable and spacious areas for the mom and her litter. In fact there were boxes of gloves and hand sanitizer nearby for when they handeled the new pups. After selecting our little girl, we went to the main house to sign the contract. Once again, there were clean, normal living conditions. There was an older litter of pups inside that were a few days away from going to their new homes. Now, I will say that these pups were in a large cage, however, they were just shy of 8 weeks and were unattended in the home so I would not expect them to be any where else but in a secured area. There was more than enough room and the cage was clean. I asked if I could hold one of the pups and Mary quickly responded by opening the door and letting me get my puppy love on. I remember one out of all of them being a bit shy at first but the others were very social and fun to play with. Again, no signs of neglect, abuse or mistreatment. With all being said, could I nit pick at things and find negative things to say, of course. But heaven knows that my family, pets and home are not perfect at all times, and I am sure you (the reader) do live like that either. FYI: We are an educated, above average income family. I am a stay at home mother of 2 kids and have a pretty high expectation of living. I say this because I want you to know that if I feel comfortable that Mary and her dogs meet my expectations of a small, in home breeder I am sure she will meet yours too. My opinions are in no way a guarantee of goods or services but I wanted you to hear about my experince from the other side of the fence.
