Mary Ann Poindexter review: Buyer Beware - Breeder is a Liar 39

Hello, I see that this post says "resolved." What exactly does that mean?

I am a past buyer who searched her name for contact, looking for another Cavi. She is a kind person who does a good job at what she does. Of course, complaint boards come up! Complainers tend to get their information out there front & center 🤪
I’m hoping she still has Caveliers as I would trust her completely. She sent me sight unseen exactly what I asked for 10 years ago. What a treasure she is! A breeder who can be trusted in my experience. My Dad and son picked her up for me and reported that the place was very nice.

Mary Ann Poindexter donated a puppy to my client's grandson whose Mother had passed away, he is a 10 years old and also has some learning challenges. She most gracious to have responded in this way, my Real estate agency was going to buy him, she said no use your money on training...which is exactly what we did. It is terrible how one person can go after another and ruin the reputation of another, I went to pick him up at her home she was very kind and her husband, her facility was clean no smell and quiet.She took out time to explain everything I needed to know, I loved having Copper in my home as my clients was waiting to move from out of state ..he was the easiest puppy I have ever had to potty train and crate train, he went to work with me, everyone loved him.Mary Ann is a wonderful lady who blessed this family with a puppy who will help heal this child's heart..I totally admire her love for these animals and their people...Nancee Jarrett Camden Tn.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Maryann... cleanest most professional operation I've found... ! My Dad and I have attended dog shows for years he used to breed German Shepherds ... and she is a pro... her home and operation so CLEAN.!.. her kitchen a walking pharmacy of great care for puppies ... cleaning, vaccinating, grooming... she is a nurse so she spends hours with you if need be in training questions, caring questions... no she has NOT put me up to this.. ... WRONG. Have had 2 dogs from her... in the past. Was so happy going to buy another. These people are truly loving caring folks, I feel this post is about a lady who didn't have the money to pay for a top of the line breed to begin with. Financial stress can make one quite ugly. Understand... yet Maryann shouldn't be hurt in her great business because of someone elses mean spirit. I didn't know her until I went looking for a dog... so I have no dog in this fight... NO PUN INTENDED.. HA! She is a nurse ... great with care, so occasionally agrees to help a dog owner with pregnancy care of another breed... why not? She's the best! I hope the lady that wrote this is doing better.. maybe can one day ask forgiveness for being so spiteful to a great lady with a great operation!

This is my second response to this complaint. I wanted to address something.

SJKelly states, "There are so many people that are posting here, purportedly in her defense. It is HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS that they found this post by accident." I didn't find this post by accident. I love my dog. I'm happy where she came from. Goldens live to be about 13. I may want another dog eventually. Every now and then I search for MA online to see if she's still breeding dogs. That's how I found this site. I don't think that's hard to understand or believe.

Also, 4Paws4U wrote, "Mary Ann Poindexter is nothing more than a puppy mill." FALSE! I called no fewer than 10 breeders and visited about half of them before settling on Goldenway. I can't tell you how impressed I was with her home and her breeding facilities. Her whelping facilities are first-class. She takes her dogs into her home to socialize them. She lives on ACRES of beautiful land. Her standards are high. She treats her pups better than most people treat their family.

I stand by my original comments. This is a great breeder.

I STRONGLY disagree with this complaint. We purchased our sweet Percy from Mary Anne in December. Mary Anne was the only breeder who wanted a small deposit and then did not require the rest of the money until the day we picked up our puppy to go home, we even visited to pick one from the liter ahead of time. Mary Anne has a wonderful setup for her puppies. We met the puppies parents when we were there to pick him out. As to the quality of breed, I have had two seperate vets tell me that Percy is by far the best Goldendoodle they have ever seen. They went on and on about the quality of his breed and then pointed out how they knew he is came from great parents. We could not be more pleased with our sweet Percy. I highly recommend Mary Anne!

I can not tell you how much this thread hurts my heart for Mary Ann! My husband got his first golden from Mary Ann when he was a teenager-THATS HOW LONG SHE HAS BEEN DOING THIS! When we met and started dating I fell in love with his dog, which also prompted my love for this breed. I could not afford one of her dogs, so I bought from another breeder. My puppy ended up with a severe case of hip dysplasia and had to be put down before age 1 because she could not walk or even stand to eat. Lesson learned=you get what you pay for.
Here's what any potential buyers need to know about MaryAnn- 1)She is VERY protective of her dogs-that's a good thing! 2)She offers a health guarantee-puppies are vet checked before going to their new homes and she asks that you have your vet check them again ASAP, don't wait or take them to Petco or the dog park where they can pick up some viruses 3)Puppies are like human babies without fully developed immune systems-once they leave her care it is up to YOU to protect their health until they get ALL their shots and booster vaccines 4)Her kennel is nicer than my house-I've seen it for myself 5)her dog kennel has heat and AC as well as grassy HUGE yard for them to play. 6)She is a member of the better business bureau-check for yourself
That being said, my husband and I have owned and fostered several dogs from her over the years. She finds homes for pets people can't keep, unlike the majority of breeders today. Why encourage adoption and miss out on a sale right? NOPE, not this lady!
While nobody is perfect and even vets can sometimes misdiagnose a medical condition, my guess is the complaining on this thread is not Mary Ann's fault. I would be willing to bet the complaint is from another breeder trying to ruin her reputation and eliminate some competition, or someone who unknowingly exposed their puppy to an illness without realizing it.

...Folks our pup has followed the "Dark side".. needs the "Nicotine Patch"... shouldn't have named him "Winston"! ha! Kidding... so love this breeder... now for Winston to "Kick the habit!".. seriously this woman loves animals so deeply... amazing breeder, amazing soul, clean operation, my Dad and I were amazed at how professional her operation is, and how clean and wonderfully these pups are kept! How she knows every aspect of the breed and breeds for premium health and personality... pray Winston can kick the habit! ;)

...this one even cuter.. our pup lets my son dress him in costumes.. amazingly smart and beautiful! So worth the $. He is incredibly healthy, runs like a deer.. and soooo smart! A little character you see! Love Maryann!

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BREEDER! We know a thing or 2 my folks were breeders. Her operation so so clean, professional, .. I know because I live in her area and have observed it personally. She is always willing to answer questions and is incredibly wise about health, training, etc. And always takes her time to advise. Folks if you can't afford expenses, ie; shipping, fees for health.. .she simply cannot pay for YOUR fees. If you do not have the money for a high bred pup get a mutt out of the paper! She is top notch, have had 2 pups from her... there is a complainer everywhere... someone wanting top dollar but not having the dollars to spend ... if it is too much.. get a mutt! No one is forcing you to buy a top breed. Will use her again and again... Love our pup! Amazing, wise, professional woman, with an even bigger soul and heart. Her expertise and wisdom so worth it in it the end! Pay now.. or later when your vet asks for $3, 500 for surgeries of sick breeds. I highly recommend her! (I also have a 4 year old little boy) All dogs need proper training and time... her wisdom top notch!

HAVE HAD 2 PUPS FROM HER! LOVE LOVE LOVE MARYANN... my folks bred dogs and we marvel at how clean of an operation it is, how wise she is about all aspects of health, training, ... she spends much of her time counseling in training, and is an amazing soul. My folks bred German Shepherds so we know a thing or 2. The pups amazing shape, amazingly smart.. .the breeding great! Purchasing top of the line pups with top breeding requires funds.. period. You can always purchase out of the newspaper... if you want a top breed don't complain about paying for it... she cannot pay expenses, shipping, etc. Soooo recommend her. If you don't want to pay anything, shipping, fees... don't get a pup with this breeding.. get a mutt! LOVE LOVE LOVE our pups and this operation. I highly recommend! Heidi

I bought a golden from Maryanne seven years ago and he is the best dog I ever had. He came with a heart murmur but it went away by the age of two. She was strait fwd with me about cost and his health. Buster is well behaved, has a great temperament. He is strong and handsome. I am a happy customer, but I am still going to look up reviews about her and her dogs. I would be an idiot not too. I can only speak about my dog and my experience, I am happy with both and I will get another golden from her.

I have no affiliation with Mary Anne. And I think she sells a good puppy to the best of her ability.

We have a healthy, sweet cavalier. I have found Mary Anne to be responsive and informational. Breeding is what she does for a living. Why does that make her a puppy mill? Also, she doesn't seem to over breed her cavaliers. She has new ones now than when we purchased our puppy 2.5 years ago. When I called her and asked her about the others she seemed open with me. She's not the warmest of personalities but I think she does care about providing good, healthy companion pets.

One other thing that keeps jumping out at me. I found this thread by searching her name and the word "complaints", why on earth would any happy past buyers be searching the same term? Why would every one of the people singing her praises only comment on this one post too? Surely if they have such a great rapport with this wonderful person they would know how to contact her, so why would they find this thread and post here? I suspect like the person in May that she is behind all of this too. It's no surprise because this is exactly the type of thing she pulls. She lies, covers up lies and then lies again and sadly it's the dogs that suffer for it.

What I find interesting is how everyone who comes to her defense completely ignores the original post about all of the breeds this woman has. How does any home, caring, animal loving "small hobby breeder" justify this. It's very clear her motives are profit driven. SHE HAS SIX BREEDS!

Mary Ann Poindexter is nothing more than a puppymill. Evidently she has managed to dupe some people into thinking she's not because they were able to get dogs from her that responded well. Congratulations. That's quite an accomplishment since the adults that produced those dogs live in deplorable conditions and when she's done with them she ships them off as breeders to the next unsuspecting person. She lied about the age and medical conditions of the dog. She also lied about the number of litters the dog had - not realizing that the AKC would turn over those records once the new owner registered and owned the dog. The dog came with several medical issues that were inexcusable for anyone paying any attention to the animal. It was horrible.

Buyers of puppies can sing her praises until the cows come home. Breeders all over the country know exactly how this woman operates and how she treats her animals - they have no respect for her as I found through subsequent calls and investigations. I am saddened that I was duped by her and unknowingly assisted her in the tactics that she uses. She does not care about the animals and I can say that with first hand experience. She may be able to continue to hide behind her lies. In fact, she may make more fake accounts here to continue to try to salvage what little reputation she has. I hope she comes back in her next life as a dog owned by someone like her as that would be justice.

Our Liberty Belle, a 5 year old golden retriever from Goldenway, is the sweetest- nicest- prettiest- etc. dog I've ever known or had.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience with MaryAnn and we will go back to Goldenway if we ever get another dog.

I'll never forget how helpful MA was as we were visiting her home and picking out a dog.

To me, the priorities are 1) temperament and 2) looks. Well, I've got a gorgeous dog that loves playing, responds excellently to commands, and is friendly with everyone. Bark less. Wag more.

We purchased a one year old Golden from Mary Ann in 2011. We wanted an older dog as we have a special needs child and wanted to skip the puppy phase. Mary Ann was informative, knowledgeable, and very understanding. Freedom, now Katie, is the best dog I have ever owned. From temperament, to intelligence, to looks, she is a wonderful dog. I would get another Golden from her in a heartbeat. My experience was nothing but positive.

I read this complaint and immediately thought "Could this be the same MaryAnn?" We have one of her goldens and let me tell you I get compliments on him daily. Parker is 6 months old and incredibly well-behaved. A puppy! We are working on obtaining CGC and having him certified as a therapy dog. He is amazing!

I found MaryAnn very easy to communicate with and straight-forward. There were no hidden expenses or health issues to contend with. He is healthy as can be. I would definitely purchase another golden from Goldenway Kennels. MaryAnn has no idea that I am writing this...I merely searched to show a friend Parker's parents and came across this complaint. How I got here I don't know, I'm not very techy.

I don't understand the original complaint but that has not been our experience at all.

I too would like to disagree with the complaints. I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that I have purchased from Mary Ann (5 years apart). They are both absolutely delightful, friendly, loving and VERY healthy dogs. We have actually had to return a puppy to her with a heart murmer and had no issues at all, and we were able to use our deposit on a future puppy.

Here is a picture of my Goldenway puppy who is 4 months old. Best dog I have ever had and I love him more than words can say!

I also disagree with the complaints about Maryann. I was attacked by a dog I used to have that I got from the pound and decided that I wanted to get a golden. I even had another breeder from a different state look at the websites of the breeders here that I was considering and she recommended that I go with Maryann because from looking at the pedigrees she knew what she was doing. My family and I went to visit Maryann and we're very impressed and put a deposit down that day. Maryann selected my puppy for me based on temperament. She told me what kind of puppy I would have and she was right on the nose! My puppy is exactly as she said he would be...absolutely wonderful! Maryann went above and beyond to make sure I got the type of puppy I wanted. Someday when I get another golden, I only hope Maryann is still doing this because I couldn't imagine having to get a golden from someone else because I trust Maryann. So there's my two cents...from someone who has had personal dealings with Maryann. And by the way, her price never changed, she never lied and my dog is very healthy!

I also strongly and completely disagree with the two complaints. It seems the first complaint boils down to be charges for shipping and vet fees most likely necessary for interstate transport and the second received a sick dog which can happen for many reasons and when a puppy is stressed by being shipped. Specifically to ashpich85, you pluralize your complaints to involve a "group" of people in your complaint as you ;misleads buyers, puts money first and sends people sick dogs." Additionally when you wrote, she is a liar who only cares about money and not the animals or buyers and their families who are affected by her decisions and deceptions. I suggest your complaint would have more credibility if you included specific information regarding the nature of your dog's illness, the onset of the problem, what MaryAnn did or didn't do that you expected and the ultimate outcome. A puppy can become mortally ill in a matter of hours or days through no fault of the breeder, a breeder is usually responsible for congenital defects resulting in death. The truth of your complaint is as you say, "I have personally experienced a very unfortunate dealing with this woman." You have no knowledge about how she has dealt with the hundreds of animals, buyers and their families MaryAnn has undoubtedly dealt with over the many years she has been involved in breeding animals and selling them to desiring buyers, which after all is a business, one in which it has been my experience MaryAnn has done fairly and with integrity.
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH GOLDENWAY KENNELS
I have a wonderful Golden Retriever from MaryAnn. I have a disability which prevents me from handling too much weight so I was looking for a female Golden thinking the extra weight of a male might be too much for me. I contacted several breeders and when it came to MaryAnn she did not have any females available for sale. After I shared my story with her she offered the pick of the litter, a female she had planned on keeping to retire her mother. My husband just happened to be in the area that day on business (we live closer to Knoxville), he stopped at MaryAnn's home that very day on his way back to Knoxville. He was warmly welcomed, he met the mother, as well as her other Goldens, was shown the kennels, and the whelping area. He did not see any large outdoor buildings where there might have been a hidden "puppy mill". She GAVE him a traveling bag for the puppy, two stainless quart hanging bowls, bully sticks and of course the food she was feeding. I would feel comfortable buying any breed MaryAnn is breeding and we will buy another dog from her in the future, I just pray she is still breeding dogs when we are ready. I am only sorry I didn't get a chance to meet her. So what if there is only one champion in six generations the proof is in the product. I understand there is a considerable investment in time and money in making a champion which is predominantly necessary for proof of excellent constitution for breeding purposes. Our girl is beautiful, she has a wonderful constitution, a great personality and is very smart. MaryAnn would have invested the time for her to be a champion and then she would have had maybe as many as six generations of puppies so there you have it one in six. MaryAnn does not breed her dogs as often as they can for the dogs health. Sadie is a dream dog, everyone who sees her or her picture on my husband's desk at work comments on how beautiful she is. We priced Goldens from $500 to $3000 at $1200 our Sadie is priceless. She has a good bit of English Golden Retriever in her background which you can see in her light golden and white coloring. Both of her parents were certified excellent in all areas of the OFA. You don't have to take my word I will enclose a picture. Maybe we were just lucky, but with one flaky complaint and one unfortunate sick puppy complaint including few details about the circumstances, on this board concerning a breeder who has been working with dogs for several decades I don't think that we were lucky I think MaryAnn is doing everything right. This is my only post on the Complaint Board I registered just to disagree with the complaints, just in case someone thinks it odd. We happened to see the complaint when we were looking up the name of MaryAnn's kennel after our neighbor mentioned she had been swimming with a delightful Golden puppy from Goldenway Kennel, last weekend in Loden Lake. Keep up the great work MaryAnn.

I completely disagree with you! MaryAnn is a wonderful woman and has been a joy to work with and help in choosing the puppy for our family of 6. I have done rescue in he past and also owned a couple goldens before this. EVERY person that sees our puppy compliments us on how well behaved he is. He is the calmest, most obedient, submissive, well adjusted dog we have EVER met. She puts a lot of time into her dogs and cares greatly for them! You can go to her websites and see that! Look her up..golden way kennels mt. Juliet tn or Annadoodles. She is a wonderful breeder with amazing dogs! Even my MIL who dislikes dogs loves our puppy. He is not spastic, hyper and just lays around after a short romp. He does not jump, his health is amazing, he is GREAT with kids, etc...I. Annot say enough about what amazing dogs MaryAnn has!

You are really one of the most despicable people I've ever dealt with. I have half a mind to call the ASPCA on you and have them check your dogs and "facility".

I have read all of the comments about Mary Ann Poindexter, including the legal ones from PuppyFind and frankly, those throwing in their two cents who have not had a personal experience with her should keep their two cents to themselves.

I have personally experienced a very unfortunate dealing with this woman and she is dreadful to say the least. She does not honor her word in any capacity, misleads buyers, puts money first and sends people sick dogs. She will advertise a price and then take a deposit, once the deposit is secured she will raise the price on you and you're stuck. The dog advertised had older photo used when it was in better health and condition; the dog that arrived was drastically different than advertised. She is a despicable woman who will use the bible to condemn anyone that disagrees with her and the only consolation is that she will be held accountable for all of her actions to a higher power one day. Justice would truly be her coming back to life as a dog owned by someone like her.

To sum it up she is a liar who only cares about money and not the animals or buyers and their families who are affected by her decisions and deceptions. If you are considering ANY dog from her I would tell you to look elsewhere. I have no personal axe to grind with her - my experience was awful and she is an awful person from what I personally experienced. I feel terrible for the animals in her "care".

Also, not to mention - "It is agreed that if for any reason you are unable to keep your puppy (even into adulthood) that we be contacted first and have "Right of first Refusal" as to make proper and safe placement of puppy."

HOW AWFUL OF HER... good lord.

Clearly stated on her website: "All shipping charges or choices in veterinary care for whatever reason will be the responsibility of the buyer."

What is so difficult about that?

Also, what's wrong with her breeding a few different breeds? I just don't understand why that is an issue. This woman seems fine to me. I was referred to her by a woman with a PRECIOUS, sweet-natured goldendoodle.
