Magic Jack does not have a customer service rep when you call, they try to force you to order on their hotline. They tell you it works with DSL, sure, it does, but you still need your phone service to use your DSL, therefore, you still have two bills. one for their product and one for your dsl. If you have a cable modem, then you may want to get it, but if you google: Magic Jack complaints, you may want to think twice, because the internet is full of complaints from them. Which is how I found this site. BUYER BEWARE!

All I know is mine is working fine, although I only got it a few days ago. It works over my dsl connection, even better than I was expecting. As for customer service, if you paid with a credit card, you have 60 days from the time you received the item to dispute it with your card issuer.

What do you expect for $40/year. You go from paying 40 to 80 a month to 40 a year and you expect the greatest performance? Are people really this stupid?

Maybe you are just stupid. Some people are too stupid to use technology. Go back to paying an arm and a leg to the pos phone companies, and leave the modern technology to non stupid people.

I guess I was scammed, Magic Jack doesn't work, came with very vague instructions, I hope I am able to get a refund!

You cant be serious that your DSL bill goes away by using MJ can you? You have DSL to access the internet, you could drop your phone number and still pay only for the DSL service. My MJ is working perfectly. If your worried about them "spying" on you, then sit in a dark corner with the lights off and cut all the wires entering your house! Let me let you in on a secret, just about every website you visit spies on you so, save money by using MJ and protect yourself on what you use your MJ PC for, but don't bash MJ for items beyond their control. They NEVER said that they would give you free internet to go along with your inexpensive phone service!

Hello my Fellow Scammed Friends,

Tonight we got scammed by this company, and I feel like a magic jerk! They did exactly as I have read here, scammed other people using their product as if they had no soul. The magic jack I had came in the mail already broken and it was in no way something that we could use.

I looked all over the web site, and there was no customer service phone number to be found (which really didn't matter to me. I went almost a full month without phone service because of the broken product, and I kept being told the new Magic Jack was on its way (Through the only venue the company gave me to complain, their live chat service). I’m sure the Company has no phone number because it makes things easier for them to continue their con. Their twisted thinking is, if you have to wait an hour for someone to answer your chat complaint, you’ll likely hang up before the hour is up. I worked customer service a very long time ago (not trying to be a know it all but, we were told to do the same thing, they feel the company does not have to deal with another complaint, if they make you wait a really long time. Live chat is also easier for them to shut you off quick if you continue to disagree with them.

Anyway I waited on line for what was supposed to be a supervisor who seemed to have some problem understanding me. She was playing the “I’m stuck on stupid” game and I was tired and in no mood for games. No matter what I told her about the Magic Jack, she stuck with a bogus story, she said she found no complaints on record from me, she said I would have to pay them yet again (I paid them once already when I was not supposed to be charged until 30 days after trying the service out). Well I told her I have all documentation of the chats we had from the beginning to this one we were having today, which also included the charge they had made on my credit card. I think she choked because she didn’t talk for a moment or so. Finally I could see I was getting nowhere, when she got her voice back she continued saying I would have to pay, they wanted my credit card number “again”, and I would have to pay for shipping charges as well! These are all things that are not mentioned in their commercial, as you know these are completely the opposite of what they promise.

I don't want anyone else to go through this kind of con, we all know that money is tight now, and we can't afford to play with our wimpy pay checks. We need it to feed our kids, clothe them, and pay bills from reputable companies. Magic Jack has no conscience, they don’t care that they hurt others. Now I have to find a phone service and pay more to get it started because Magic Jack decided they could not be honest, because some guy wanted to use his kid to push his product so that he and his family could have all the comforts that most of us are working our fingers to the bone for!
I’m angry over this and you should be too! I will not stand by and let Magic Jack get away with this, I’m not going down as another Magic Jerk. I’m going to complain to whomever I can, anyone that will at least blink an eye and look into the Magic Jacks background. I ask that everyone that’s been ripped off, get the word out also. Standing by and saying to yourself, “little old me can’t make a difference”, while others continue to get financially raped every day.
Also if you can point I and others who would like to file formal complaints to the companies that do listen and help those of us in a situation like this. Please send me their email, phone number, etc so that I can contact them as well to make them aware of this companies wrong doing.

Please remember we can make a difference, if we do nothing would be like the one who wronged us did it again.

You're not quite understanding what the phone company is saying. You can cancel your phone service and still have DSL. Magic Jack doesn't make calls via your DSL line itself, it sends the call through the internet - it's called "voice over internet". So the phone company has no objection and won't charge you for using it. In other words, when you are using Magic Jack or any VOIP services like Vonage, the calls are not placed via phone lines, so the phone companies can't charge you for it.

I read from the magic jack site that its a 30 day free trial witch may or may not be true I havent tried for myself but you would read the fine print they stated that you would be billed on the 31st for the product and shipping and handling, thats probably why everyone is complaining about the charges after the 30 day trial do you get charged the 19.99 for the year? You really get charged more for the magic jack and s/h then you do for the yearly service. Let me know If I am wrong.

I was billed immediately - no free trial period as advertised. My card was billed twice what it was supposed to be. I cancelled my card so it can not happen again! I have contacted the BBB. Terrible product! Terrible service!

MagicJack has no customer service via telephone. And their online chat reps appear to only tell you enough of what you want to hear to get you off the phone. They do not solve any problems whatsoever. Good luck with getting refunds or service from this company! All the promises of the MagicJack infomercial are a scam.

I didn't realise either that they would give you a dierct, live rep to talk to for problems or returns. This is the 3rd scan I fell for. I may have to close my American Express card to prevent any more charges hitting my acount! Guess I have to call Amex again, last time it was in regard to "Celebrity Sexy Teeth" doing business as IONLINEORDER.COM...tHEY ARE A SCAM TOO! If anyone happens to read this. Buyer Beware--we all need to go to these forums BEFORE we buy, to make sure they're legit!If you or anyone can help me get a number &/or get a refund for 2 magicJacks, please contact me @ [protected] or katsy3333@q.com. 3-4 months ago I ordered, received and installed Magic Jack on my laptop's USB port as suggested. I have Comcast DSL.
As many of the comments I read about indicated the Audio quality is poor, when connected either the party you're calling can't hear you or it sounds like you're talking underwater. No technical help is available. I am extremely computer literate. I tried to resilve the problems myself. All to no avail.
Do not buy this product. I know the commercial appeal because of the larceny in all of us suggests you can save a lot of $$$ if you use the Magic Jack. But, it just doesn't work. I
I've asked Comcast to install digital phone service for $19.95 / mo/ for the first year. I'm sure they are legitimate. At least I won't be forced to return to A T & T and continue to pay them a double fee for their service.

It worked ok about 80% of the time then in the middle of a call it broke after 90 days. Now my computer won't recognize it and there IS NO SERVICE. ALL THE LINKS SUGGESTING SERVICE ARE FRAUD. THE FAQ'S ARE A SCAM AND WASTE OF TIME.

But with DSL you are still using the phone line, therefore the phone company said there will be charges for any long distance made through the DSL connection, even if the line is DSL service only! People need to know this before they get suckered into this thing.

Magicjack with DSL works perfect.. and you say it don't?

Works with 1000's and 1000, s of DSL users!

Just because you can't talk your Phone service to use DSL only
..You Blame Magicjack!

Plugin Magicjack.. and it works fine. Amazing how many say Magicjack don't work when it does...

If your PC doesn't work with Magicjack you blame Magicjack..?

It couldn't possibly be your PC ...could it? NO NO!

Update your PC Man! ..Try a 220v outlet! ..Repeat as Necessary!

same thing, won't work, can't return..they won't give you anRMA which they say is necessary, and the form you are susposed to fill out is lacking a box to fill in your email address which is required to get an RMA number. so quess what? you can"t return that sucker no matter what. SCAM? you bet.
