MagicJack unauthorized charges

I ordered the majic jack phone jack, with the assurance from their advertisement that I would not be charged for thirty days, well that was not the case. I was charged approximately two weeks after placing the order, and I had not received the merchandise yet, because it was lost in the mail to me.

I recently had an unauthorized charge for Magicjack appear on my credit card statement.
In previous years I had used Magicjack but haven't used it for more than a year
I tried contacting online help which they say is 24-7 and gave up after an hour.
I looked up Magic Jack complaints and all I could find were denials and rebuttals to complaints.
Not an ethical way of doing business.

I ordered magicjack because of the free trial claims they made on the free trial ads : "your account will not be charged for 30-days..." My account was debited three times : (two magicjacks @46.90--twice and another charge for $23.16.) within MINUTES!
I contacted them at their customer service "chat " line to cancel my order, within two hours of placing my order & had 4 discourses with 4 different customer service people: none of them could find my order in their data base, yet they had it "together enough" to bill me instantly! They did however, advise me to wait for the item to arrive, then " return to sender" & just send it back..." Too simple...I want my credit reflected electronically as quickly as my debit!
One item arrived at my address yesterday... in some one else' name...this is appearing to be a scam...I called my bank the next day & they said that because it was taken from my debit account & NOT my mastercard I could not dispute it ...so I have to deal with them now.
BUYER BEWARE!

I ordered my magic Jack, because I receive assurance that I would not be charge after 30 days. unfortunately, they took the money the same day. Moreover, instead of 1 magic Jack I ordered two. even though I let them know that mistake I didn't receive my refund yet.

MagicJack charges on my att billing

This month when I received my [protected]@t telephone bill I had an extra billing by universal call plan inc. For 19.95 plus loacal and federal charges and tax coming to a total of 21.45.
I called [protected]@t and they told me it coud be a scam. I called the usbi number and I did not get a direct answer as to what this pertains too.
They said it was for long distance calls in the u.S. And canada. I did not sign up for this, and I told them I was not going to pay. I don't know even know what it pertains to.
Can you clarify this this?
Could this be a scam by google? Thank you.

William, Magic Jack isnt even affiliated with At&t. The Phone # s dont even relate to At&t. There is no long distance charges with magicjakc except for over seas calls and they dont even use at&t for communications. Its broadband internet. Someone in your house oe close by has ordered that service on your phone with your acct information. Ill say it clear.. MagicJack has nothing even close to do with AT&T. Ie: Its like buying a car and saying you got a much higher electric bill at your home and asking if buying the car had anything to do with it. No.. Hope this helps

MagicJack magic jack is a scam bad review

Please stay away from this scam! We got magic jack because we wanted to save money. Magic jack will take your money and you will not see it back. Beware of long distance calls. They say they use at&t, but when you cannot connect you still get charged for the calls. There is not magic jack customer service number, so whoever takes care of your business does it behind a computer, you never can talk to anybody live. Magic jack is a total rip off. Please please please I wonder how much all those people giving reviews got paid for them

Please beware of magic jack, is a scam, magic jack will take your money and you will not see it again. The agents all they do is apologize and say "they are sorry but cannot refund". Stay away from magic jack. Go for the sure thing with if more expensive, at least reliable phone company.
I canot give magic jack nothing but a bad review. Please stay away from it.

This company promises phone can be returned within 30 days at no charge. However if you try to get an RMA from their website well within that time, they say they have no record of your order. Also they provide absolutely no way of contacting them directly (except to place an order). My order was placed Sept, 21, 2008. I started trying to get a RMA Oct, 15, 2008. I`ll make a copy of this as proof to use with my Credit Card Co. in case I need proof that I made every effort to abide by their rules (as I guess this is dated as it is received). I have all the other emails of order receipt, tracking number, email address, and Credit card number that I tried to submit per their instructions in order to get a RMA. This is absolutely a scam.

MagicJack does not work lousy customer service

I bought Magicjack at a local Radioshack outlet. When calling, the answering party could not hear me repeatedly to several different callers. I got on line with customer service and, to make a long story short, after 8 customer service agents and nearly 9 hours on line with them, we still had the same problem. These people do not know what they are doing and/or their product simply does not work and they are a scam. I am going to return my magicJack this am and if I cannot get my $$$ back, I am filing a complaint with the state division of consumer fraud in Olympia.

MagicJack joke

I have never had so much trouble getting something to work on my computer as I have had with magic jack. I spent over two hours in live chat with two different women walking me through the "drives" of my computer to enable this and disable that just so it would function. And after all of that, it still doesnt work. It would not toggle between the headset mode and the telephone mode no matter what you did. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING TO SAVE THE MONEY YOU THINK YOU WILL--YOU'LL SPEND THE DIFFERENCE ON TYLENOL. I WASN'T EVEN THIS MAD AT MY EX WIFE!

MagicJack unauthorized billing

This was for a telephone unit that I received on a thirty-day trial period. I could not get it to work on my home computers. I returned it one week before the trial period terminated. I mailed it from Ireland. Further, they billed me twice for shipping. The unit has been returned within the trial-period and the charge is unfair and it should be reversed.

I sent for the Magic Jack because of the price. I was told that they would not take any money from my account for thirty days. In five days Magic Jack took $130.00 from my account. The transaction was pending so my bank left the money in my account. Two days later Magic Jack took $90.00 from my account. The bank is helping and 'looking into the situation'. I had to get a different number for my debt card. I did receive the product from MagicJack and I sent it back with a letter stating what I have typed here and with a return receipt. There is not a person to talk too. I tried but there is no one to talk too. I was told the product from MagicJack would be $39.99.

Yes, you should receive a refund for the double-billed shipping charges. If you paid those charges through a major credit card company, you can get assistance through them for the miss-billed charges. Typically the credit card company will reverse the charges in question while they investigate the issue. Technically, this means you are not billed/ are refunded the charges. The credit card company will communicate with the seller/vendor of the product in question and make their own determination as to the validity of the charges in question. If the credit card company does in fact establish the facts in your favor, you will be off the hook for the double-billed shipping charges. Should the credit card company find in favor of the vendor, the credit card company will provide you with ample proof and verification of why the charges are/were valid and post those charges to your credit card account. All the while the credit card company is investigating your charges and/or discrepancies’, you will not be billed any interest charges on the amount in question, nor will you be required to pay the particular part of your credit card charges that you have placed in question. If the credit card company does find in favor of the vendor, the credit card company may or may not seek interest charges on the questioned amount back to the time of the original date of the charges. You would be responsible to pay these interest charges and the original charges that you placed in question under the terms and conditions existing with the credit card company, that you would have agreed to by acceptance of the account when you opened it/ or as amended since the account inception. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Simply contact your credit card customer service representative and explain your dilemma. They should help you immediately via phone. It’s also wise to follow-up any phone discussion with your credit card company, with a written explanation; just to avoid any confusion or miss-understanding.

same thing happened to me. they promised - in fact they repeatedly STRESSED the point that they would not charge any money for 30 days.

And they did not keep that promise. And this happened on a checking account that is a little extra lean these high gasoline price days. The result is I have 46.90 gone from an account that needed 40 of that for gasoline tomorrow.

The magic jack is a GOOD PRODUCT. I like it. But for some reason the people selling it cant help but be dishonest in thier business dealings. All they had to do was HONOR what they said - 30 days of NO CHARGES - and not only would they have been paid, but I would have been someone putting up testimonials on their product.

Instead I am telling you all - they lie without shame. And according to my bank, without consequences too.

I hope my complaint with the FTC https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
is gonna get somewhere.

MagicJack fraud & scam

The Magic Jack is beyond question the worst consumer electronic product I have ever bought.

I bought this device in April 2009 at a nearby Radio Shack outlet and paid cash. When I got the thing home, it worked very well- it booted right up, and worked mostly very well, for a service that costs $2 a month. Audio quality was fair, what with many clicks and beeps and other noises. But for the cost, who could complain?

The real problems started after six weeks. Since that time, the middle of May, things have gone straight downhill. Calls do not reach me. The device will not boot up, or my computer does not recognize it, or something; and the audio quality has deteriorated to the point where I cannot make outcalls at all, because my voice "breaks up" and I am unintelligible to the person at the other end. Calls are dropped constantly mid-conversation. Callers reach someone in another state, or country, or the call is diverted to my voice message box, and the caller is told that the box is full.

But the worst part is that this device has caused people calling me locally to incur long-distance charges as a result. A friend of mine, who lives 8 blocks from here, called me at my 773-area code Magic Jack number, from her 773 land line, which is AT&T. She was billed $22.00 for these calls, even though they are local calls in the same area code! She called AT&T, and the other service provider, whose number AT&T provided her with, and was told that AT& T has complete discretion to decide what constitutes a long distance call.

Please note that AT&T provides the long distance connection for the Magic Jack, as they proclaim on the user interface that pops up when you plug the device into your computer.

I believe that AT&T is sharing in this fraud and that the FCC ought to sanction both companies, and shut Magic Jack down completely.

I am lodging complaints with every relevant authority, including but not limited to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), my local BBB, my state legislators, my congresswoman, and my senators. I strongly urge all of you posting here to do the same.

That is sad that you had that problem. I have had one for a couple of years and have yet to have a bill or problem. It works fine and boots up when needed, etc. I ordered it and paid for 2 or 3 years so still have time left. I love it. $20 a year, can't beat that. Never had a bill, no one calling me has a bill for it unless it is long distance, of course. Maybe you should get a hold of them and find someone to fix it. I got on the chat line one time and they did help me out. I moved to California and lost my Magic Jack. Called and had to get on the chat line and got another one and still have no problem.

MagicJack discontinued service

I purchased a Magic Jack @ Best Buy about 2 mo ago for $39.95 - This includes one year of service with free calls in the US etc. You can't call other places unless you prepay. Today my MJ wouldn't work. After over an hour "chatting" with Geraldine and then Roy all I know is they say I have an unpaid balance on my account but they cannot tell me why, how much or any other rational information. Finally I just disconnected because they were asking me to explain to them how this occured. They wanted to know if my credit cards were not paid up and if I had unpaid PREPAID international calls and my shipping address(I printed the dialogue for entertainment value) -- it was obvious they could not explain why they had discontinued my service except they claimed I had an unpaid balance-- THEY ADVERTISE THAT EVEN CHILDREN CAN NOT PLACE CALLS THAT WOULD CREATE A BILL so if you want to possibly waste your money with no sane explanation feel free. Also I know of situations where they charge the card immediately despite their promises to the contrary and then after that they tried to bill a second time saying the first charge didn't go through.

Magic Jack should be called Crap Jack as that is what it is. They also stole from me in the same way as explained above. They will NOT answer any questions, their chat is hiding place for them, they have no phone, only the chat, or they are required to give a phone number to credit card company but it does not work, they refer you to another number, after an extensive hold a person comes on line from the Philippians, but speaks too quite to hear what they are saying, they refuse to turn up the volume, they refuse to do anything, they will not let you return the product, do Not give a refund, they do Nothing, but refer you back to the chat where they hide behind, you are better off to go site on a block of ice naked for the rest of your life then t get sucked into their scam & nothing more then 100% frustration with that crap jack. If you are interested in started legal action let me know, we paid for an extra 5 years, total of 6 years, but they refuse to allow the phone number to work, why because they tried to scam me, when I disputed the charge through Bank of America they refused to to allow us to use the number, they try hard at intimidation, they like to tell clients that their account is under review, that is their way of keeping the money that you gave them & them not allowing you to use the magicjack device. It is hard to believe that they would be concerned about their reputation, just check out on google complaints magic jack

If you bought MagicJack from BEST BUY I would wonder if Best buy forwarded the
$39.95 to MagicJack ! ?
If they did not, then MagicJack techs would of course ask the Qs they did of you.
I have used MJ since 5/08 and have seen the tone quality improve, especially after
they joined AT&T . Occassionally I get cut off during a conversation, but I think that
has more to do with my Cable Co., than with anything else.
If the connection is bad, I have asked to call back the person on the other end, after which
we usually end up having a better connection. That has only happened with a caller on
a cellphone and a friend who lives near an airport. More of a signal problem.
This problem is little to put up with, considering the very, very low cost. What is odd is
the fact that I can have worse connections within USA, and always have a great connection to Europe and Canada. I bought the 5 Year plan a year back, and hope they stay in business forever. I must say, my last Customer Service call did irritate me too.
Apparently Customer Service has been outsourced to Asia and complicated Qs were ignored or given inadequate answers. But again, as it is, it has saved me hundereds of $ calling abroad.
I hope your problem of unpaid access will solve, especially if you are stubborn and pursue
this with BEST BUY. OR SHOULD WE RENAME THAT COMPANY ?...considering some
of their selling techniques lately, which border on false advertising ?
If you can't get it solved, I would return the phone to BEST BUY within 30 days, and order one online as I did, and had absolutely no problem with the accounting.
Do watch out for one thing though.
Have no foreign minutes credit left on the MJ when you return it.
You will loose that... I don't think they bother to credit that to a new MJ with a new
phone number. ...Good Luck...!

MagicJack magicjack idiot complaints

I have read a number of the complaints about the MagicJack and and I am in awe of the idiots that could not get them to work. I bought 1 MagicJack a year ago and installed it im my home (Charter Cable not DSL) and it worked immediately. I have subsequently purchased three more and I am using them at my business. All working great. I have one telephone line into my business for the Fax and the DSL (Cost about $89.00/Month). The other three I use to conduct my business. I eliminated three Verizon lines at a cost of about $149 per month. Some people just like to hear themselves complain. I have "chatted" with all three levels of their tech support on-line and they are ok. So shut up already.

MagicJack worked fine at beginning(about one year ago): start up quick and the audio were good if not great. Then recently it become worse and worse: it takes forever to start up and the audio is terrible. Unbearable even to me not to mention my wife.

So MagicJack=MagicJoke?

MagicJack works the first couple of months; after that, you best get other phone service if you want to be heard by the party that you're calling.
By the way, my response to the person who says the magijack works with Charter, it does NOT; I have Charter and have the same problem as most do ...
As far as customer service goes, I was able to get a 'live chat" customer care rep; however, she was no help at all; I would asked a particular question/complaint and she would give me an answer which had nothing to do with my question/complaint!

Truly,

one more taken my magicjack

In response to e1i7e_7w33t:

I own a company call Tech Support Co. specializing in PC Building/Repair and Electronics Support/Installation.

I don't fall under the category of someone with a "low tech IQ", and I think the Magic Jack is great.

Your suggestion that any VOIP software and a modem jack will do the same thing is preposterous.

Even Vonage, another very popular VOIP service, costs $25 a MONTH for unlimited calls within the U.S.

It performs exactly as presented, at a very low cost.

I hate to be that guy, but the problem is anyone who purchased this bought snake oil, as it is completely superfluous. All you need is VOIP software and a modem jack on your pc. The issues described on this page are consistent with cheap, poorly designed hardware, not settings or ISP troubles. I believe that their marketing was intentionally misleading, as it is apparent that they demographically targeted those with a low tech IQ, i.e. their patronizing explanation of what the device did, the assertion that the internet is "the worlds largest telephone network", and the promise of no software to install and maintain. If nothing else, I think them shutting down their customer service is the first step in a plan take the money and run, after filing for bankruptcy protection of course. I would recommend to everyone who sees this to write your local media and file a complaint with your states' Attorney General, as exploitation of technophobes must violate at least one law.

My twitter name is e1i7e_7w33t. If anyone who like to organize something, I'm sure I can reach out to my network and unleash the wrath of the interwebs on these clowns, as it may be possible for a group of people to analyze the hardware and software against their marketing claims and perhaps prove intentional fraud beyond a doubt.

I just hate seeing people targeted for no other reason than a lack of technical knowledge.

MagicJack beware: magicjack will not replace bad units bought through third parties

Beware! Magicjack will not replace a unit that goes bad from Walgreens or any other third party. They state that it is in their terms of service which are not clearly marked on the box when you buy it. Here is the actual chat log I had with the Tech Supervisor, Nikki.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Scott'

Scott: Hello, how may I help you?
Jeff: Hello, my magicjack is dead.
Scott: Since when did the issue started?
Jeff: This morning. I already spoke to an agent earlier today.
Jeff: It's feels like it's over 100 degrees.
Jeff: But no blue light.
Scott: Are you using the USB extension cord for the MJ?
Jeff: Nope.
Jeff: Basically, the agent said to let it cool down and try again an hour later. It is still dead, no blue light, no nothing. It just gets hot. I would like to get a replacement, but I want to keep the same phone number. I think I need an RMA.
Scott: When did you purchased that MJ?
Jeff: I bought it about a month ago at Walgreens.
Jeff: I still have the original package.
Scott: Thank you for your patience. I will transfer you to a higher level of support. Please hold while I transfer you.
Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

You are now chatting with 'Nikki'

Nikki: Hi there this is Nikki one of the supervisors here in Tech Support. Please give me a few moments to review your previous chat. Thank you!
Nikki: Can I have your MJ phone number please?
Jeff: 941-XXX-XXXX
Nikki: May I know where you ordered the MJ? Was it online or by phone?
Jeff: I bought it at a Walgreens drug store here in town.
Nikki: I see. I'm sorry but we can't process a replacement if the product was not bought directly from us. But you can go back at Walgreens and have them replace it. You're still within their 30 day trial right?
Jeff: I believe it's over 30 days. That is really bad customer service. The item was working, now it's defective. That's your problem, not Walgreens. Also, I want to keep the same number because I gave it to all my friends and family, and believe me, that takes quite a bit of my time to do.
Nikki: Please refer to our terms of service. We don't process a replacement if the product was not purchased directly from us..
Jeff: So, I would have to buy another one because your item is defective? I would like to speak to your supervisor.
Nikki: I am one of the supervisors here that's why Scott transferred you to me..
Jeff: Who's your boss? I want to speak to that person.
Jeff: I am beginning to see why your service is 19.99...However I paid 49.99 for it at Walgreens, not 19.99.
Nikki: He's not available right now. Supervisors are your last resort. Trust me Jeff, if you bought the MJ from us, I would be happy to replace it just to settle this problem. But we really don't replace the device if the product was not purchased directly from us. And it is written in the terms of service
Jeff: But it's your product. Are you saying you don't support your product?
Jeff: I will also be publishing this chat log on the internet to let others know about these practices.
Nikki: please click here

I agree with Jeff wholeheartedly. I also bought my unit at Walgreen's, but I paid $34.95. In either case, the product just doesn't work on a consistent basis. It totally wiped my hard drive, which I had to replace. I also had to replace 2 GB of RAM as well. It was literally fried !

MagicJack contact info

This is not a complaint, rather a response to those who have been taken in by magicjack. I have posted a complaint with the bbb of southeast florida. The matter is still under dispute, however, I do have what no one else seems to be able to locate: contact information! According to the first response from the company (given to the bbb so no doubt it is correct) their address is: magicjack 5700 georgie avenue, west palm beach florida 33405. The man that responded to my complaint was peter russo at [protected]. I hope this helps anyone else that was sucked in by this company.

We purchased a magic jack six months ago. Everything was working fine until the device stopped working and we requested a replacement. It has been two weeks and we still do not have a replacment. There is no customer service except for e-mail, one e-mail we received in repsonse to our request was written by who does not speak english or very young.
Thanks to the writer who provided a phone number.
I'm thinking justic department action, attorney gereral or securities and exchange commission.

MagicJack monthly bill

I purchased a magic jack at wal-mart. On the package, it stated that the 39.95 payment was all that I had to pay for one year of service. When hooking up my phone, I had questions about the payment, because I went to the email link and I went to the faq page. I read a question, from a person who asked if there were any other charges. The answer was no, there was no other charges, but when recieving the email, I was told that a 14.95 a month bill would be billed on my regular phone bill each month. Is this not false advertising?

With all due respect, that sounds like nonsense--there is no explanation as to why such would be added to your "regular phone bill" since there is no connection between your regular phone carrier and magic jack. I smell a falsehood.

There must be a government agency that could look into this and force the MagicJack company to provide a product/service, or refund their customer's money.

MagicJack ending service prematurely

On May 20, 2008 I ordered 4units with 2 year service for each. The promotion at that time stated the units were FREE and each year service was $19.95...they cut me off and will only respond via "online chat"that "the units were $39.95 with 1 year free service"...they billed my credit card for $173 for 4 units !T hey claim I did not sign up for extra year. They refuse to acknowledge the second year.! They ran a fraudulent ad campaign! DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR ADS!
The device works mostly ok, sometimes you need to disconnect & reconnect later) BUT ONLY PAY FOR ONE YEAR AT A TIME!

its getw better for the worst case there are many issues of suspened area code many area codes had been suspened for being fake states by magicjack rules and regualtions. I got news for you. thats bull ### and lied about working at all 50 states.
area code for example 808 is hawaii and that to is suspened for not being a state, . IRS says it is. the Federal Goverment Clames it is there are I.D. theft iusses like for peole that cannot get there area codes suspened that is not on the list as magicjack says
have to choose out side state some place else on a list that magicjack clames it is on there rules not by the Federal Goverment and the 50 states that do have there own state Goverment you can practice doing a product activation and choose Hawaii. its not working to work. All I do know is State of Hawaii is being f***ed with. how many other are codes are being f*** with as well?
alao get bank accnount and credit card suspened for paying online at two different locations at the same time. That is black market and I.D theft right there. then they will use your card for any reasions what so ever with out letting you know. Debit cards are not safe to use at magicjack. it will f*** the bank account bleeding it dry and create collection agants to peoples homes to collect over draft fees and other fees with out know what all is this all about

Your and idiot! You said you paid for 5 years of service and you did not. If you paid the $59.95 that is only for the magic jack and the first year of service. The 5 year plan is $99 as stated on the website and on the packaging the device comes in. Magic Jack has never sold a five year plane for $59.95. If you could read maybe you would not have this problem. Any ways for the rest of you [censor]s out there the thing cost you $20 bucks a year and your still complaining. Your all a bunch of stupid pathetic red necks. The service is not that great, but its not that bad. I have been with them two years and the service is OK and they do take care of you. There is also something you pathetic people don't understand. Magic Jacks states and tells you not to use this device for a replacement or for emergency service. And if your Internet Service is slow then the thing wont work well and that is your stupid fault.Dumb [censor]s!

I PURCHASED A MAGIC JACK IN AUGUST 2008, PAID $59.95 FOR A SUPPOSED 5 YEARS OF SERVICE, AND THEY CUT MY SERVICE OFF AFTER THE FIRST YEAR! I WAS TOLD I DID NOT PAY FOR A 5 YR SERVICE PLAN...BUT IT'S FUNNY THAT IT WAS DEDUCTED FROM MY CHECKING ACCOUNT BY MEANS OF MY DEBIT CARD IN JUST 15 DAYS! I SPENT NUMEROUS TIME E-MAILING THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT., BUT I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT BE RE-CONNECTED WITHOUT AN ADDITIONAL FEE OF $39.95 FOR A YEAR OF SERVICE.FORGET THIS PRODUCT. IT'S A BIG RIP-OFF, AND I FELL FOR IT!

Lastly we can see that your Internet connection is working too. This will provide the best Customer care experience and keep you most satified.
Pamela : Ok thats just fine, but what my first question was, what is your business address?

Pamela : I like to keep in my records for personal reasons addresses and phone numbers in relation to the people or businesses I buy stuff from? Is there some type of reson why you cannot provide me with one? Is it a secret location? I dont see what the big deal is?
Zack: No Pamela it is not a secret as you can see our address on the email confirmation when you order
Pamela : So in order for me to get an address from your repuatable company, I need to have a email confirmation first?
Zack: Yes Pamela, you will get when you order
Pamela : I can call Goodyear in Florida and ask for the address and they will give it to me over the phone and I dont even have to have purchased anything from then yet?
Zack: I really apologize on this Pamela but every company has its own confidentiality.
Zack: Only valued customers has the right to know the address since they have transactions with our company
Pamela : Thank you for taking your time out to speak to me and every other american in the USA, I wish you and your company a few more days of success with your SCAM!
Zack: One moment please...
Zack: Thank you for your patience. I will transfer you to a higher level of support. Please hold while I transfer you.
Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

MagicJack no service

When I bought my Magic Jack one Year ago it was sold at our local mall. I paid $55 for the Magic Jack unit plus 2 years service. Now after one year my service expired and Magic Jack refuses to recognise my second year. They tell me that it is not sold that way. I tried over and over again but I can't get them to understand that even with my receipt. Besides that you can't speak to anyone on the phone. You must communicate by internet texting.

I bought into the Magic Jack idea...paid the express shipping...went for the license on install...they have no area codes or prefixes I can use...they say just wait our engineers (?) are working on getting some...I had the feeling I should have just sent them the $100 PLUS shipping both ways counting the immediate return and searched for a truthful operation.

I started with the original MagicJack, but found it had too many problems. Now using MagicJackPlus, and find that this works well. The only complaint I have, is the way the account is managed by them. I wish, they would let you know in advance, if your number is about to expire, instead of suddenly having no phone use. I would not recommend paying for more than one year at a time, just in case.

MagicJack does not work as advertised

Worked fine for the 1st month and a half. Overnight, it stopped working. Their website is as difficult to navigate as Walmarts'. It took me 30 minutes to find a Customer Chat line. I was disconnected from the chatline on 4 different occassions and spoke with 8 agents over a nine hour period. The piece of crap still doesn't work. No one of their end seems to know what their doing and everyone you talk to wants to walk you thru the same nine hundred steps wiping other software off your computer (that they say is incompatible with magicJack - funny thing it worked for over a month with that same software on my machine). The product is great in theory and useless in practice. If you threaten one of their agents by saying you're going to use some other voip service, they'll disconnect you. There is NO actual phone number to call and you can tell by their dialect, their "agents" are not American. Which, in and of itself, is most likely half the problem. Take my advice folks - keep your 39.95 and use it to pay for 3 months of quality Vonage service. The only magic this jack has is the works one minute - broke the next magic!

Yes, I most definitely agree! I have the magicjack plus for one month now and have had to contact an agent 4 times. The agents were not able to help and I had to request for a supervisor that understood my problem. On one occasion, an agent went into my computer, shut down my firewall, installed a driver and I have to have my computer worked on to fix a problem with drivers after that session. I don't know what happened, but I had more problems after that. I have had dropped calls, too many to count, and have had to restart magicjack more times than I can count. Yes, it might be really inexpensive to operate, but this is no excuse for the amount of trouble it has caused. I have already had to have another adapter sent to me and the agent I spoke with about this stated this is a common problem with the adapter and the adapter can be replaced free just one time. I wished I had researched this further before I purchased the magicjack plus. I could have stayed with my cell phone for 4 more months at the purchase price paid which was $70 dollars and time spent on chat which I will never get back. DISCOURAGED!

MagicJack porting of number - delay

When I originally ordered my magic jack, porting of other numbers would be available very shortly. Every time I check the website the date is later and later, as well as, more vague. If you were thinking of porting - you can't. Just think of it as unavailable.

They have claimed porting "coming soon" since 2008 it is now a few days away from 2011. I doubt they will ever do it, they are just lying to the public to get customers... The inventer clains that the other companies don't like to release the numsers, thus "making MagicJack look bad" well I have news for him, hey [censored] - they now look like saints compaired to you.. So far I have yet to her ANY of your competiters say that tey will release a feature on (whatever date) and not do it. Now, so they say, they are in beta testing. I suppose this so called beta testing will string along for 3 years or more then they will announce were sorry but it just wont work riht now with majicjack, but we will continue to try and update our service so that one day it will...
With that said I would like to ask: Is there ANYBODY out there that has even had thier number ported?
