Maggie's Presence What a girl wants
Merrickville, Ontario

When I walked into the store, a large man met me before I had stepped foot inside. I was preceded by my daughter and her friend, both 15. One however is fairly short, but does not have the body of a child if one looks.

I was told by the man to watch out for my 'little one'. I looked around, confused by what he meant, sure that I would see some young child running about the store, and asked, "Little ones?"
He replied, shaking his head, "yes, there are things of adult nature here for women so watch your kid."

Understanding, I laughed, finding it amusing, and replied, "Oh that's ok, they are not children, but 15 year old teenagers and I'm sure they've seen such things before."

We had made the trip to Merrickville and had been looking forward to checking out the store. The girls were excited about seeing the purses and such in that particular store and I had, until this happened, full intention of spending money there.

Well, still not realizing the significance of the situation, and still finding it funny we continued to enter the store (which is very small and very crowded), and next thing you know the woman behind the counter leans over waving her arm in front of my face. "Well fine then, there's a purple vibrator right over there to show them!" her voice raised enough that other customers turned to look.

Rather shocked, I simply moved around her waving hand and said "There is no reason to be rude about it or have attitude."

The man: "I wasn't being rude I was warning you about your kids." Well at that point the man had shut the door and raised his own voice. "She can say any fucking thing she wants because she owns this store."

Once more, in even more shock I then turned back to look at him, my daughter and her friend were standing together both of their eyes popped out of their head and their mouths hanging open, other customers were either trying to look away or staring in shock.

"Excuse me?" I was in shock now, not only had they been rude but he was swearing.
Obviously I wouldn't be spending money in here.

"Now would you like to leave?" Demanded the 'owner' the woman behind the counter who on her website claims
"Our clients and guests are treated with honesty, courtesy and respect.
In turn, we expect the same from our clients.
Our vision is to gain name recognition and a reputation for excellence."

I said, "No, we didn't want to leave." And shook my head. So she said his name, I do not remember what it was, and he lunged at me, I stepped back before he could grab me. "You just swore in front of your customers, and my girls." I was still in disbelief to the treatment we had recieved.

"Call 911." The obviously egotistical 'maggie' said from behind the counter.

Shaking my head I let them know that we were leaving, and the girls followed me out. When my daughter's friend reached the door, the 'man' pushed her physically out.

I do not see any cause or reason for this treatment, nor any of the words or actions spoken. I previously had spoken about the store positively because of some of the (however overpriced) items that she sells there. However, from this point on I will never step foot again in there, and the credit card bills I racked up were all from the OTHER wonderful stores along the street in Merrickville. I find it disgusting that not just a worker, but the actual owner would treat her clients like this.

Had you taken your teenager in there before? Had you noticed things that might be inappropriate for them to see? Why so lax about them seeing stuff that might be considered more mature for their eyes? ESPECIALLY A CHILD WHO IS NOT YOURS.

If someone tells you there is product that is not for the young, it isn't for YOUR protection, it is for the owner's. And when you were asked to leave, you were then trespassing, and your refusal could have landed you in jail. Even if it isn't written, all business owners have the right to refuse service to ANYONE for ANY REASON. Although they probably should have phrased it differently.
