Macy's review: this is highly deceptive! 21

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

Yesterday, I went to Macy's to take advantage of the offer to receive a reduction when using a credit card. I chose a holdable cutting board called "Chop2pot" under a sign saying "Chop to pot--$9.99." When my purchase was rung up, the charge on my Macy's card was $16.00. The explanation was that the heading "Chop to pot" only applied to some knives listed individually below the the heading. My sales receipt said that the reduction for using the credit card did not apply to "gadgets." This may be my last purchase with my Macy's card. I wish to add my complaint to many others who are tired of too many restrictions on special offers. This is highly deceptive.

I contacted r consumer service dept about a bill which was not mine. We called the service department and got t of the company that the bill was from. Found out from the company that I bought nothing and owe nothing, I contacted Macy's Customer department and proceeded to get very little help if any. They would not contacted the business for the information I got from them in fact the so called customer service person said she had no way of calling anyone or she couldn't fax them no fax machine to work worth and refused to help me in any way. So I canceled my account and paid her the $25 dollars I didn't owe Macy's at all but got no help what so ever. I worked for Famous Bar and Macy's for over 20 yrs and there was a fax machine in every dept. You need to redo your customer dept. Because they suck big time. It does nothing and sucks. Ye the people got working there need to revamp this dept. And make it more helpful and fair to customers.. That is what their there for.. So Macy's owe me $25 and a credit account . If not I'll never go there again. your guys suck and are not going there jobs.

thank you for nothing Suzanne Victoria

I've been trying to access my Macy's credit card balance online for two weeks without success. The first few days the automatic response said they were going through changes and the information would be available on August 25th - but it wasn't. I went to the store August 29th to get my balance and it was wrong. They said check online in a few days. This is my second week of trying to get my Macy's credit card balance online to no avail. I called customer service and was put on hold for over 18 minutes. Finally, I got my balance! When I told the customer service rep that I wanted to submit a complaint she put me on hold and now I've been waiting for 26 minutes! She could not give me an email address to submit a complaint and the number she finally gave me was wrong! It sent me to some consumer program to remove my phone number from solicitor lists and asked for my SSN. This is absolutely ridiculous. It makes me want to shop elsewhere!

After not being able to contact Macy's due to their poor customer service connections (each time I called they claimed they couldn't hear even with different cell phones and different locations) to make a payment arrangement I accrued a late fee. After this, I paid each month at least the minimum payment of $25 on the card (balance was only $375 about) I made several payment arrangements to try to pay down the monstrous late fees that they said could not be waived even though they could not be reached to make arrangements (their bills say you can call to make payment arrangements)

On July 26th, I made a payment arrangement for $25 with a representative. I was to make a second payment in August, which I was late on but I did make another $25 payment in August. Macy's called upwards of 4x per day EVERYDAY and would not leave a message and so I did not know who the number was from. They then sent my bill to collections sometime in mid August, claimed that they never received the online payments that I had made for July and August AND then sent it to my credit report as delinquent without ANY warning or notification that this would be done. When I called to ask them when it was sent, they THEN said they couldn't give me an exact date, and that they DID in fact get my payments but that it was my fault for not picking up my phone to find out they were going to put it on my credit report for not paying all of the accrued late fees! If I work 12 hours a day and can't answer my phone, that means that they can't leave a message asking for a call back and saying who they are? And no notice in the mail whatsoever?

Not only that, but the bill that I was sent in August did not show any payments I had made, NOR did it say anything about collections. In fact it states "If we do not receive your minimum payment by the date listed above, you may have to pay a Late Payment fee of up to $35.00" It also says that "Thank you for your recent payment, However your revolving account is still showing a past due amount" NOTHING ABOUT COLLECTIONS. This is the most unethical and deliberately confusing company I have ever seen. They are stealing from consumers by giving misleading and false information, claiming not to have information that they do in fact have-depending on who you speak to, making it impossible to clear up your account with their representatives and finally, ruining people's credit reports without just cause and warning.
I have good credit and pay my bills. I am careful with my credit report and it is unfair and unethical that such a company should be allowed to abuse their clients.
I will be going to the New York State Attorney General's office about this as well.

I was given a $50 Simon gift card for Christmas. I used $21.12 at WalMart and $17.46 at Belk. I returned the merchandise
to Belk and then should have had a balance of $28.88. This return was made 1/11/08. Two weeks later I am still trying to use up the balance of the card with no luck. The people in India who field the calls keep telling me to wait 5 business days. So far, I have waited 14 days, and no money.

I love my Macy's. I buy almost anything there for Christmas and so. I had a 400 dollar limit and i worked hard to keep my good standing paid above the minimum and paid on time. So now I go to Macy's and was paying with my card of 47 dollars and my card is no good. I call customer service and they tell me my credit is down to 220 dollars. Why bring me down from 400 to 220. Thanks alot Macy's, my christmas was ruined this year. Now I'll go see my grandkids 150 miles with no gifts. What the hell, I'm still in good standing. Fix it.

Horrific web service - orders placed online are processed hours later by a third-party named fiftyone. By that time, products are usually unavailable and clients are send a "we apologize for any inconvenience email".

Following up through with a telephone customer service rep doesn't fare any better as one is bounced around different departments and told that "the order was canceled", "the order doesn't exist" and "the order was not processed because the product is no longer available". Then the product reappears online a few days later as a "door buster".

Poor performance all around - not worth the effort... Or the client loyalty.

So Macy's has an ad that says they are hiring in their Southcenter store for a position in Cosmetics dept. A call is made, an interview is set up. Applicant has is a licensed cosmetologist, has finished a program with Gene Juarez Academy, actually worked at Macy's Jewelry counter about two years ago. Applicant is given a 5 min interview and told there was no opened job. The interviewer did not actually ask applicant many questions. Applicant was appropriately dressed and make up impeccable. Applicant was distraught and called up to see if the job was still open...was told there were several openings. Why did the interviewer lie, why didn't she complete the interview, what made her decide almost on site that the applicant wasn't acceptable? Was it because she was African-American? Or young? Or over weight? How does one report this kind of crap?

Obviousy in today's world where finances are a big concern, Macy's has no regard for consumers that are trying to do the right thing and not purchase items on credit unless they can afford them. I have had a Macy's card since 2017. When the economy tanked I chose not to use my credit card and worked to pay my card off. This Christmas I went shopping in Macy's. I had not used my Macy's credit card in 3 months. When I tried to pay with my credit card I was declined. I called the customer service department while in the store and was told my credit limit had been decreased due to lack of activity on my account. So I sent a complaint to the credit department and of course no response. Today I went shopping at Macy's. Again I tried to buy merchandise and again the card was declined. I called the customer service line to see if they had decreased my limit again because I had not used it since I tried to use it in December. I asked the customer service rep to tell me what my credit limit was but she said she wasn't allowed to give that information even though I gave her all necessary information to prove my identity. She told me I could give her an estimate of what I was going to purchase and she could tell me if the purchase would be approved. I ended up purchasing the items on my Visa card. However, after serious consideration I'm going to return the purchase and will no longer shop with Macy's.

I was given a gift card for a birthday present. Called the number on the back of it and placed an order for a women's top. Spoke with an individual by the name of Amy, took my order, told me what my balance would be on the gift card and I would have more order within 7-10 days. My order did not come, called the number today, was told I needed to call the store closest to my zip code. Called the store, they had want I wanted took my information so they could ship it to me and then I was informed they could not do a gift card over the phone, they would need to scan. If I was close to the store I would have gone in and used it. I am not. I am upset because I do not get to Colonie Center NY, maybe once a year, and was told by two or three different Macy employees "no problem". WRONG. Macy's need to make sure employess know what they are talking about. Finally spoke with someone that knew card could not be used over the phone. Riduculous.

I was also charged a "provisional finance charge" on my Macy's bill even though it wasn't due yet. I knew what my balance was and when I looked it up online it was higher and when I contacted them that was when I learned of their provisional finance charge . They said if I paid in full I could subtract it BUT if I pay the minimum or a pymt is received for less than the entire amount the provisional finance charge would remain on my acct. I always thought finance charges were added AFTER the bill was paid IF THERE WAS STILL A BALANCE. I will not use my Macy's card again after catching them trying this little trick.

So I bought a 3 piece sectional before sale prices at $3000. My first micro suede so I also purchased the Worry-no-more coverage just in case. Well this morning to be exact I noticed a rip on the corner of one of the cushions. A ripped-gaping hole! It must have been from when we cleaned the carpets the other day and the cushion go stuck under the couch leg. So I immediately call Worry-No-More. "Sure its covered...no problem...send pictures." 1 hour later I get a refusal letter via email! They said "we don't cover seam separation" Well dumb ###, when you have a ripped-gaping hole in a fabric, you are then going to have seam separation. If there was no hole, then all the fabric would be in place and still together. So I sent more pictures and I will be emailing them on a daily basis, letting them know what ### ### liars they are! Shame on you Macy's! We have bought a ton of furniture from Macy's, but I can tell you this is the last for anything to be bought in their store. I have been a loyal customer for the past 11 years. They just lost my trust. To charge fees for a coverage and you can't even replace a simple slip cover on a couch.

I just found out that in March, 2017, Macys changed their practices for using credit cards. They have a "new business practice" according to the phone representative I contacted to find out my available balance. They now have a "flexible" limit, and whenever you try to use it a "request" is made to see if you can charge this amount. I requested a fairly small amount and was told I couldn't charge that amount. I explained what my limit had been and was told that was not the case anymore, and that she was sorry. I asked what criteria was used to determine this amount and was told they were not making a credit bureau check. I again asked what criteria was used and was told it was based on payment history, etc. So when I explained mine should be good, she again apologized and couldn't really explain what determines this limit. Therefore, I think people should start complaining to higher than the phone reps to see what's going on. I have never heard of this by any other store.

I just had the same exact thing happen----great credit;paid early;paid off early----and suddenly told "you don't have any buying power right now"! WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN? The supervisor couldn't/wouldn't tell me----so I have a real deal for Macys: since my purchases don't mean anything to them, I am canceling my account. :)

It's common sense that when inactivity happens with credit it is often decreased or even closed.

This happened to me today. I have never encountered anything like this and I told them I will not shop at Macy's anymore and I mean it. The quality of their clothes are the same as Kohl's and Kohl's is much cheaper. I am paying their card off and will never shop there again. This is ridiculous!

Yeah, this company finally and truly lost their minds, and then some...what are they thinking? One thing for sure was that they LOVED when customers got their credit card. I thought it was pretty sweet too, you would get coupons, and the sales were great so that when you could, it was worth the drive...Now? I am looking to pay up my card, i would likely still use the store because I love the clothes, and the sales are great but I would not use their card any more.

When you have a credit card, the credit never truly belongs to you.
