In a hurry to check out of the Mission Bay Resort on 6-15-08, I left several items of clothing hanging in the closet of our room number 630. The next day, I realized I had forgot the clothes in the closet and immediately called the hotel. After more than 17 phone calls and a return trip back to the hotel (from Los Angles) specifically to pick up my items from the hotel, I was told nothing was recovered from the room and they were ultimately not responsible for any property left after check out.

I was able to describe what I left; type of hangers (mine, from home) even the brand name of some items.

The front desk told me all "lost" items are turned into security; I was transferred to security and left a message. After several attempts to talk to a live person in security, I finally reached someone on 6/16/08. Security told me the room we stayed in was cleaned by housekeeping and nothing was turned in as "lost/left behind". However, they told me it was possible that housekeeping could have missed items in the closet but because the room was already occupied with a "do not disturb" on the door no one could get into the room to check the closet for my clothes. I was told by security to wait until the room was unoccupied and they would check the closet.

On 6-17-08, I called the hotel again and talked to someone at the front desk about my items and to see if the room was unoccupied. It was suggested by the front desk operator that I return to the hotel to pick up my belongings. When I arrived at the hotel, no one had turned my things into security. Again, I was told the room was still occupied with a "do not disturb" sign, and they could not check the closet. I was told they would contact me after the room was vacated and investigate with housekeeping. I completed an investigation report and left.

Finally, on June 20 I received a call from security, after the room was vacated and they "investigated" housekeeping, no one had seen or turned in anything from room 630. Security manager, "Tom" told me Hilton Hotel would contact their liability insurance carrier and a someone would call me.

On 6-25-08, I received a call from the hotel's insurance company - the hotel was not responsible for any lost of left property after check out, there was nothing they could do, I was not entitled to any type of reimbursement, settlement, etc.

I am more than frustrated, I believe my items were "found" by housekeeping - and were either misplaced after being turned into security (I was told at one time to return to the hotel to pick up my belongings) or the hotels housekeeping department decided to do a little "keeping"; after all most all the items I left in the closet were new or nearly new designer (Anne Klein, Ann Taylor, etc.) clothes, clean and on hangers - why not...

THis has happenend to me too but over 1000$ worth of games was taken from me at a hilton hotel i staye at for a ffa convention i was attending. it happened almost that exact way your items where "missplaced" i was not allowed to take my luggage to the bus do to time problems with the ffa convention so the teacher told us to leave all our stuff packed and next to the door. i wanted to get the stuff myself but the teacher said not to worry. so i went the whole trip worrying about it and out of almost 30 people that went to the hotel, i was the only"lucky" one who did not get their luggage on the bus. i called the people that loaded up the luggage and they said they had know idea where it was. i called the hotel multiple times and i had to go threw the same dallema you did and i eventually got my suit case back with my clothes and game system but 26games, 2memory cards, a controler, and cd case was missing. i called back and they said they had no record on anything being left in the room or found anything but its a lot of bull and i really wish i could just go back in time so i could just get the luggage myself and i hope someone finds my games and brings them to me or something. i think i hade my name in the cd case. and every cd had my initials (mw) on it...it was in the missouri, lake of the ozarks hilton hotel room 401. and i believe it was in 2006 in may between the 20th and the 25th. if anyone can help me or info of any kind i really need help and i have no clue on here my stuff is or where to start. i know its been about 2 years and i been worrying about it ever sense that day i lost my games. im gonna keep worrying myself cause i could of stopped this from happening if the teacher let me get my own stuff instead of someone else i did not trust fully.

I stayed at the Hilton Long Beach in June 2008, and left the room pretty quickly. I thought I had taken everything from the closet but when I got home, realized that new clothes and shoes were missing. I phoned the hotel and left a message for security. Security said they would check it out and call me back. He called back the same day and said that nothing was found in the room or subsequently turned in to lost and found. I kept looking through my things but still couldn't find the new top or new sandals that I had only worn once. I became really upset and called back to talk with the manager, left a message and have received no call back. I went back to the store to see if I could find another top, no luck and went to several other stores and didn't find anything as nice. It's really frustrating to find something you love and then lose it without even getting to wear it. I have no respect for the hotel now and will never stay there or any other Hilton again. I am quite surprised at their attitude toward the items missing from the room, which could have been taken when the room was cleaned for all I know, or left behind at check out. The maid was in a big hurry to clean the room that day, and the room has two phones in it. Couldn't she have called the desk and the desk called us, since they have our phone number in the computer and we could have returned for the items that very day. I get the feeling that the poeple who work at these hotels at all levels look at the guests as "fair game" and they just go through the motions with us. They expect us to arrive on time, leave on time, and pay on time for the room, for parking our vehicle at their hotel, and tip each time we get a service, but they have no duty to call us if we leave an item in the room. They obviously don't consider it important enough to tell their maid service to report lost items right away, when the first thing they do upon entering a vacated room is look around to assess the level of cleaning required. But even if it's the last thing they do, there still would have been plenty of time to notify the guest who checked out within a timely manner. I certainly would have been happy to have gotten that call and went back by the hotel before we left town that day. How nice for the hotel to have such freedom from liability. They have the right to keep our things if we leave them. I will never look at hotel stay the same, and I will be more careful next time, like taking a list of clothing items, so I know if something is missing before I leave AND after I get home.
