This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

On their website they state the following about Canadian currency (banknotes and coins) which are older -
"The banknotes on the images above are no longer a valid means of payment in Canada"
"Local shops in Canada will refuse these outdated banknotes, since they are no longer legal tender."

The above statements are not true. Any old currency notes and coins are valid tender here in Canada. In fact they are More valuable to money collectors due to their rarity and precious metal content. Banks and shops will only accept face value of the note or coin. This website may be intentionally misleading United Kingdom citizens in order to reap huge rewards. The most current Canadian Bank Notes which they depict are Not the latest ones and are in fact also replaced.

Hi there informed Canadian,
My name is Mario, I am the owner of Leftover Currency. Based on your comments I have updated our Canadian Dollars banknote page. I have removed any reference to being legal tender or not, or about shops accepting these notes. The information was based on my own experience: When I tried paying with old notes during my trip in Canada, the shopkeeper refused them, saying they are old notes and don't have the modern security features.

What I am certain of is that these older banknotes are not exchangeable at banks or exchange offices here in the UK or Europe. We travel to Canada to exchange them.

You speak of precious metal content? For banknotes? The Canadian Dollar coins we exchange are the current ones, they don't have any precious metals. As for numismatic value of the notes: We pay out no matter what condition the notes are in. Most of the old notes we receive are in very bad condition. We don't sell them on to collectors, we simply bank them in Canada for full face value. Same with the coins.

You say that our website may be intentionally misleading UK citizens in order to reap huge rewards? That is a big thing to say... I advise you to read what people say about us on ReviewCentre or TrustPilot. We exchange what banks and exchange offices don't accept: Coins and outmoded + obsolete banknotes.

Next time when you have feedback about something on our website: Get in touch. We are a family business, not a mega corporation. Our email address is on the site, or you can use the contact form. I think that's a better way than posting an anonymous complaint, don't you think?

Regards,
Mario
