LA Fitness International scammed on personal training

My wife joined and was given a hard sell billed as an orientation to sign up for personal training. This turned out to be an automatically renewing contract which would cost $ 5000 / yr.

She did not actually read it and stupidly signed!

Once your name is on the dotted line, you are dead! They refuse to let you off except by the contract terms which are for 50 % of the remaining cost. At 50 % of the first 6 months (which I calculated as $ 1250), this is pretty expensive, but LA Fitness figures this at $ 1550 since the first month somehow doesn't count as remaining. This has so far cost me $ 1700 without actually having a personal training session. (The wife tried to schedule one, but the trainers are never available - and if you don't get them in, you also pay.)

Same problem in quitting my membership. Sent written notice by certified mail (as they require) and still they try to charge my credit card for monthly dues.

No toll free number - no customer service. Their marketing philosophy seems to be to offer a low price and "month to month" contract and then scam you for anything they can.

If you join just say NO, NO, NO, and don't bother to take any "orientations". If you quit, cancel whatever credit card you gave them immediately and be sure to send the cancel notice by registered mail as they will be sure to "lose" it. If someone says they will "take care of cancelling" over the phone, tape it because I can assure you they are lying.

Even though you can never contact them by phone without being on hold for an hour, be prepared to get twice daily phone calls from them on your cell.

Wow, I'm sorry you live in WA, and the best we could offer you are a bunch of shady used car salesmen. I'm a WGM in CT and don't have half the issues with my member's that you mentioned. Yes the training is bunk and I recommend all my memebers to take the assesment but not buy a package because those are contracts! I apologize that the GM in your club is concerned with keeping their monthly EFT up that they are willing to screw someone over a cancellation. Is the 30 a month off of a couple hundred thousand really going to hurt their end of month bonus check?! No it isn't, I sincerely apologize on behalf of my company and wish I could offer some help but cannot. Not all clubs are scams though, some of us care and actually have personal relationships with our members. Reading things like this really make me step it up for our members out here. I'm truly sorry for the hardship we may have caused.

LA Fitness International Health conditions

I am a member of LA Fitness located at 35009 Enchanted Parkway South, Federal Way 98003 - telephone number: 253-838-5900. This business closed their pool on 5/1/08 due to unsafe water levels. They reopened the pool on 5/5/08, even though the pool water problem still existed. They allowed lap swimming and over 25 people were in the water for the water aerobics class. The manager was aware of the water's condition prior to opening the pool on 5/5/08. I spoke with Lindsey Argo at the LA Corporation Office. I told her of the health issues surrounding the people who were exposed to their pool. She offered to refund the days the pool was closed under the condition that she froze my account to only pool access. This is unacceptable. One person having a medical reaction to their pool could result in a huge lawsuit. The unclean water of LA Fitness' pool exposed all swimmers to disease. I called LA Fitness the morning of 5/5/08 and was told by their representative that the pool’s water problem had been solved and that the pool was safe to use. It was not and LA Fitness knowingly allowed its members to swim in an unhealthy pool. Additionally, I have a contract with LA Fitness where they take my money and I am suppose to have access to their pool. This is a contract violation.

For many years, I used to swim an hour a day. Thanks to LA Fitness not anymore. Their pool was either too cold or too dirty or too brownish, the manager never checked it. When I complained, they always said that nobody else complains and that they will call the "poolguy". One time, their "poolguy" asked me to leave the water because it was unsave. Eventually they did wear me out. I no longer like to swim.

LA Fitness International they scammed me

An LA Fitness was opening near my workplace, so I decided to sign up and take advantage of early registration rates. I signed the paperwork and paid them an early registration fee.

The club did not open on time. It eventually opened, well over a year late. In that year, my company decided to move. Since I knew it was moving, but did not know where, and the club would no longer be convenient, I attempted to call to cancel my early registration.

I was told I would be able to cancel at any time with no penalty, so why not keep it in case my company moved near another branch? This seemed fair, so I stupidly kept it.

We moved. Not near an LA Fitness. And the last thing on my mind at the time was my fitness membership I had registered for *over a year ago*. Then several months later, I got a call. They were having trouble billing me.

What? Why is LA Fitness *billing me*. I never set foot inside an LA Fitness. My membership was never activated. Oh, they explained, after the club opens, they activate your membership and bill you, whether you've ever been to a club or not. If I want to cancel it, I'd have to write in and pay for what I'd already accrued. I refused. The phone guy told me he'd talk to his manager who would call me back. No one called me.

Several months later, it's now 2008. (I signed up in January 2006!) They call me. They're having trouble billing. I patiently explain what I already told them before. They tell me that I can cancel, but I'll have to pay a 30 day fee. I tell them no. The guy tells me my membership agreement requires me to. I ask to look at a copy and he says it is on the website. (If it is, it is hidden in their member’s only area. Which I don't have access to because I never signed up for any of this.) I call him back and get an answering machine.

A few minutes later another guy calls, this one from the specific branch I had joined. I explain the same thing. He gives me the number of the manager of Membership Services, Tim. Thanks. I call Tim. Tim explains that they *are* charging me already and that I did use the club in November. I have never been there. And the date he gave was when I was on the east coast. I check my credit card. [censored], somehow they found a way to charge me when they couldn't before, and I hadn't caught it.

I'm writing to their headquarters right now, but as it's currently looking, it seems that they will now have taken hundreds of dollars of my money. And I have still never even set foot inside an LA Fitness.

Never sign a contract with LA Fitness

NEVER sign up for personal training sessions at LA Fitness. LA fitness employees mis-represent the agreement, do not show you anything that you are signing, and when you call to inquire about charges to your account and ask that it is discontinued the company continues to charge your credit card until you agree to buy them out for the contract you were tricked into signing.

I sent the membership cancellation form as instructed via certified mail. LA Fitness claimed they never received it. So after ripping their butts and 3 phone numbers later I got membership cancelled over the phone. Here's the number to do so:
[protected]. They make it very difficult so they can keep taking your money.

this facility, unlike others in the general area, is worn out, filthy and disgusting. it needs a complete update. the equipment is always out of order, tired, chipped, frayed, etc. they need to close this for a week and do a complete update.

in fairness to the managers, the members are slobs too (perhaps in part because of the sloppy condition of the place).

I joined the LA Fitness Club and they lured me to join the personal training program by humiliating and scaring me with my body shape and health...

Now they are charging me more while cancelling my membership.

I complied to the letter with instructions in my contract for cancelling membership...but I did not send the letter by certified mail. After about two months, I began receiving collection calls from LA Fitness. They "never received" my letter and want to collect additional months' membership fees that I do not owe. I'm sending another letter...this time to the CEO, but I should not have to go through all of this hassle.

I honestly wish it were possible to give this gym a lower rated review. I signed up with the gym a few months ago and with signing up you receive a free personal training assessment. After the personal training assessment, I was pressured into signing up for additional sessions in order to better learn the machines. I asked multiple times if it would be able to cancel these sessions because I have had multiple knee surgeries and have chronic pain. I was told by the 2 "Master Trainers" that I signed with that I could cancel at anytime without a problem as long as I called in before the first of the month. Well, fast forward 3 months, and I'm calling in to cancel because I am in so much pain after these sessions that I have trouble walking for multiple days after. I'm told that the only way to get out of this contract is to pay $900 or obtain a note from a physician stating that I have a disability from the front desk associate. I called corporate customer service twice. The first time I was hung up on and the second time I spoke with a "supervisor" who was supposed to call me back. I never received a callback and called my local gym to get the hours that the Operations Manager would be in. I go in 3 times within this time frame and not only am I informed that the man who I signed up with is no longer with the company, I am also told each time that he is not at the facility, The only times this manager is there are Monday through Friday 9-5. Because I have a job, I had to take off from work to come to the facility 3 times. Even though I was lied to by the people selling me the personal training, I was still told the only way out of contract was to obtain a doctor's note. I did and took it to them. They said that they would scan it in and get it cancelled next day. I get a call later stating that they are unable to do this and I need to mail this cancellation to the corporate office. I have just now managed to get this training cancelled and it took going all the way up the ranks to their Regional VP. The absolute worst customer service that I've ever experienced.

Although I live in Arizona, we too have facilities that are six years old and less. One property is in complete shambles and mimics the conditions you outline. It is no wonder they (LA Fitness) don't post a corporate customer service address or number.

LA Fitness International Staff

LA Fitness has a very nice gym. However, the staff is completly imcompetent. Three seperate times I notified management regarding saftey issues with their cleaning people. They like to use vacums, that are really used for vacuming corners and cracks, but they are using it to do the whole gym floor. Durning 6-8 am, which most gym goers hit that time frame. And they have no problem vacuming under your bench when lifting extremly heavy weights. The male trainers are outside having private conversations with women next to their cars. All these things are trouble waiting to happen. I found the staff at La Fitness to be the best when it comes to being unprofessional.

LA Fitness International Terrible experience!

Recently my wife learned that la fitness has been withdrawing funds out of one of our accounts since 2005. They have on record of me calling several times complaining yet, they have continued to withdrawal funds. As a result my wife went down for a face to face to get this resolved, jennifer (club mgr, was very respectful & courteous) but doug sanches who does not have a physical address nor his number available to the public stepped in and began to accuse my wife of false identity and became insulting. I have left several messages with la fitness for either doug to meet me at one of the clubs he's in charge of or call me. This has allowed me time to further investigte la's procedures on terminating an account. I plan on filing criminal charges & a complaint with the not only the bbb but consumer affairs as well, I also plan on gathering as many as I can to begin a possible class action suite. If you go to their legal web page, you'll learn that there are no procedures listed for opting out of their membership, only a suspense. By the time I am done with them they will have spent thousands more trying to defend themselves with either legal briefs, representation to the answering of inquires, let alone lost time filing out paperwork, answering phone calls, being court.

LA fitness have horrible training and it is almost impossible to cancel the membership! LETS FIGHT BACK!I WORK IN PR I GOT CONNECTIONS!

I joined LA fitness December 07 and had my free personal training session where that idiot of trainer told me to lose 10-20 pounds...Im 5'8" tall and 125 pounds...WTF!
I yelled at him and told him that I will never come back again, because one of my best friends nearly died because of an eating disorder.

So, the next day they called me to ask if I was alright and I said no and that I wanted to cancel the membership immediately. After trying to convince me to stay they finally agreed to send me the form. I never received anything, so I called them and they said I should go online. I did, but i didn't wanna set up an account so I called them again and the lady told me that the problem will be solved. they will call me back.
because I was graduating I didn't have the time to follow up with them.

when I canceled in MAY(!) my Swiss credit card they started calling me non stop. then I realized that they have been using my card all the time, because I was so stupid to slide my card once over there!Since then I was sent from one place to the other and apparently all their printers are out of order...sure, but they still can print out applications!

I'm working for a PR guy and he discovered in 1989 a major scam with the parking meters in LA where the city had to pay over 15 million dollars back to the people that got parking tickets at manipulated parking meters. He is very well connected and we are going to the media now. If you want to be part of it let me know.I'm trying to collect as many angry people as possible!

I hope you nail L.A. Fitness. I have heard nothing but bad things about the company by word-of-mouth, and I think they officially have the worst customer service of any company I've ever encountered.

I've now been tricked out of hundreds of dollars due to deceptive contracts and slick, pressured salesmanship.

I would like to personally do whatever I can to make sure people know about how unequivocally horrible L.A. Fitness is.

LA Fitness International Member cancellation!

A member of la fitness since 2002 hassel daniel f1601043. I train three times a week at 530 am with three other friends, on wednesday 9th april 2008 we did our routine workout, afterwards william a personal trainer from body of change accuse me of training others I informed him that I have being a member since 2002 have a great time working out with my friends and if the trainers will repack the weights after working out their clients and being around so that when members have a problem to help and maybe pick up a new client, instead of trying antagonize members. This information was pass on to the vp of the personal trainers who herself seems lost. The personal trainers have to stop looking to accuse members who are trying enjoy an environment of out dated equipment. Four other members of my family are members of la fitness and we are strongly considering the other competitive gyms in the area.

LA Fitness International cancelation scam

Read similar complaints on this site about their cancelation scam. They billed me for 6 months after I sent cancelation form, and battled with the credit card company because they continued to pay them each month. Their "headquarters" in Toms River would tell me they never received my cancelation form, and because I could not prove I mailed it, they would not refund me for their continued billing. Then when I personally brought the cancelation form to the gym, they still did not cancel and again the Toms River "headquarters" said I had to mail it to them, not give it to my gym (even though they did receive it in Toms River, but said it was not submitted properly). I was so mad at how they treated me and their smirky customer reps that I contemplated standing in the parking lot giving out fliers about their shady tactics. They did finally refund me for 3 months, but would not refund for the entire time. So warning; MAIL YOUR CANCELATION FORM CERTIFIED MAIL!

LA Fitness International bait and switch!

10 days ago I joined LA fitness. Part of the deal for my family membership was that my 14 year old twin boys would be able to come basketball every other weekend. Sure enough today when I arrive at the gym, with my boys, I was told they would not be able to play ball. I canceled my membership and the start-up fee of $237 I disputed the charges with American Express. American Express is on my side but this company has deceptive trade practices.

I joined La fitness when I was approached by a young man outside of Ross Store at Sugarland Tx. Part of the deal was that my 2 under age children (11 & 13) had part on that membership until they reach the age 18. I went to La fitness with my children for a month until they stopped my children to entering the club. When a asked to speak with a manager they told me it was ridiculous from my side to believe they are going to let anyone to work out for free. It is outrageous that LaFitness walk away with that dirty practices in order to sell their dirty memberships. They did not even provided me a copy from the paper I signed. E.M.

LA Fitness International Worst of all!

If I compare this club to human figure, this place and staffs are all head to toe in serious infection of sickness, call humiliation! Let me just briefly write down about the problem I have encountered here.

1. Male staffs are completely occupied with membership issues, so their main interests is how much human heads are coming into as members, at once you are a member, part of your money is going to their commission, so they don't want to know you after, they act they are not responsible accommodating member's real need in the gym.
2. Male staffs' sexual harassing behavior is so obvious, as soon as I enter a la fitness center I need to get out just to avoid creepy attention of these staffs'. It was the main reason I never consider again going back!
3. After the cancellation of membership (I don't even know how rarely I have visited this place!), they still have charged to my checking account, causing over -500 balance, still trying to attempt to charge for the canceled membership. Their excuses are it takes 2 weeks to cancel the membership even after I canceled, so I still owe them amount. This is so called legal robbery in strict business world.

Every client who sign on the contract have a privilege to cancel and dispute the charge from company when this company fails to deliver what they advertise on the publics eyes.

LA Fitness International Fraud and stealing!

In November of 2008 I was forced to cancel my gym membership due to the fact I was laid off from my job. Both my son and I had memberships which they automatically debited from my bank account every month. We went to the gym and they gave us each cancellation forms to fill out and informed us if we put them in the mail within the next couple of days I would only be debited for December. Of course having been laid off we put both forms in the mail that very same day.

When I checked my bank account for February 2008 I noticed LA Fitness deducted one membership fee. I was a little puzzled and upset. I then checked January and sure enough they debited me for January as well. I quick called the center and when they looked up my account it showed that my son's account had been canceled but not mine. I said this was impossible since both forms were mailed on the same day. If they misplaced the form I don't think I should have to pay for it. I also explained that since the day I canceled the membership I had not stepped foot in the gym and they can look that up. She said unfortunately they don't keep track of that and no way to look it up. Even though every time you go they scan your pass on the computer (hard to believe there is no way to know).

I asked her to credit back my account for January and February and she said she will credit back February but was unable to credit back January since I did not notify them in January. I explained to her the reason I canceled was because I was laid off and could not afford this fee. I pretty much got an 'oh well sorry about your luck'.

I then asked for the number to the corporate office and of course they didn't have a number nor anyone else I could speak with. This all took place this week and I have not received my credit as of yet. Somehow I get the feeling I'm not going to see this credit anytime soon.

In my opinion they were very unprofessional, unorganized and show no compassion for their clients. They are only looking out for themselves. I would never recommend this gym to anyone unless they want to be ripped off.

I definitely agree with you! Not only are they unfair to their paying members, but to their employees. I'm furious of how they run their business! All they care about is making their money. Their motto is to do whatever it takes to make that money! And when employees don't make what is expected of them, you get the boot. On top of all that, they are very unprofessional. They don't care about their employees or their members. Can you imagine working national holidays with out holiday pay? Or, being over-staffed so that everyone works less than full time, so the company doesn't get stuck having to provide benefits. Oh! The managers! They would like to think they possess so much power, that they feel they have the right to treat their employees like dirt! I wish their was someone in their line of authorities who knows what is legal and what's not when running a business so this unfair treatment will stop. If not, maybe making a complaint to the better business bureau will do some justice...

LA Fitness International Charges on credit card!

I"m writing this on behalf of my 21 year old son. Robbie survived a MVA on 1/26/2008, but needed a spleenectomy, had a collapsed lung and three broken ribs. While sitting in his hospital room I was going over my list of who I needed to call. On Jan. 30-08 I called LA Fitness to freeze his membership. I was told he was already being billed for February although it was still January. I balked and was told to call a Wendy to get the charge removed. I tried to reach her several times and finally connected on 2-4-08. What a miserable, cold hearted individual. She told me since we did not notify them 30 days prior there was nothing she could do. If I would have known 30 days prior my son would almost lose his life and spend 5 days in ICU 100 miles away from home he would not have left on the ski trip and Wendy would not be known to me. During this conversation not once did she ever extend any sympathy, wish him a speedy recovery not one single word of compassion. It was all cut and dry business as usual. I can't believe this person is working in a customer service type of business. What a horrible horrible uncaring individual. I have been on hold for 1 1/2 hrs trying to contact the corporate office. Future LA Fitness members beware they could care less about you it's all about the mighty dollar and I guess my son's $24.99 is going to keep the company afloat.

I am so sorry to hear about your son - I do hope he is doing much better!

Do not feel alone. Please know - LA Fitness is the worst gym possible on this planet I have ever experienced in my life. Plug them into a search engine and see what comes up. I've never seen a company so panned. And I literally feel like all the bad reviews I have read - I have totally experienced first hand. I can't even give them an inch here or there. I never even bring much of any real issue to their attention further than trying a little because I am always disappointed - so I just eventually give up. It isn't worth it anymore (AND THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT) You get no where with them. I have watched and experienced others try to get somewhere with real problems in this gym, and still get no where but worn out and annoyed. They could care less about you. And the woman you dealt with is not just a bad individual working for this company. Rest assured, she speaks in a voice for that entire company. She is what the whole company is like, what they're about. They literally could care less about you from the second you leave the sales dept and are a member. The gym sucks - it's dirty - the WOSRT class instructors, most scamming sales department. I've lived in three different cities - this is the worst gym I have ever had a membership to. your gym is supposed to be a healthy experience - I have been a member for four years because I literally have no other option where I live right now, but it has not been a healthy experience most of the time, which again is so interesting since that is what they are supposed to be promoting. I have never ever in my life experienced a company this poor. I can't wait to get to a different gym - there is one in my area finally being built.

The best advise I can offer is to cancel the membership - it will take a few months as they will try and get a few extra months out of you, but it is far more worth it than paying them for a few potential more years to come - shame they cannot see that!

All the Best to your son -

LA Fitness International fee of $1,000!

My father opened a membership with LA. After he came home the same day we decided that the membership was not something we needed at that moment. The sales people at the gym convinced him to sign a 3-year contract. My father went back the next day and canceled the membership. A week later my husband and I decided to try out a gym membership and went to the same gym. When opening an account, I asked if my dads membership was canceled. The sales rep double checked and told us that the membership was canceled and that everything was good.

I few weeks later, we received a bill in the mail for 1,000 dollars for not canceling my fathers membership on time! When I confronted the sales rep the same day about this fee he said that there was nothing he could do. He also told me that my father never canceled the membership and that he doesn't remember talking to me about it. Although he did remember calling my father to ask him if he really wanted the membership closed.

After I found all this out, I tried to call LA to make a complaint. I was getting transfered to one voice mail recording after another and spent hours on the phone. I never got to talk to a person on the phone.

- if you are considering what gym to go to, DO NOT GO TO LA!

LA Fitness International personal training program is the worst!

I have utilized personal trainers for the last 6-7 years. When a new LA Fitness opened in my town with a beautiful facility I switched my membership and signed up for their personal training program. I had a great trainer the first few weeks and then one week I went in and was told she was sick, the next week I was told she stood me up and the third week the receptionist finally whispered to me that she had been fired because she did not know how to run their computer system. I complained to management and they set me up with another trainer. I had a couple of sessions with him but he was disinterested and just going through the motions and I could never get a regular schedule set up. Then I ask for a different trainer and approached one who had just started. Before I could schedule a session she was gone. I tried in vain to cancel but as you know from previous posts, you can never never get a straight answer and the customer service is the worst. I was told to write letters and then was told that was not enough because the letters were not certified. Then I got another session and was stood up. And it happened again. And bottom line is I had to pay for a year of training when they could not provide me with an early morning trainer and did not even care enough to follow up when they knew I was being stood up. ( about 6-7 times) They are the WORST!

I have nearly a year's worth of training sessions built up due to surgeries which prevented me from working out. When I returned to restart with my personal trainer she was no longer there and there was no one to train me early in the morning. So, I agreed to come in the evenings despite the inconveniene to say the least. I was provided with a great trainer. Apparently, he received a raise/promotion and I was told I needed to upgrade to keep him. Mind you I've paid for a year's worth of sessions. It's called extortion and its BS. Oh, sure there's some BS in the contract that they only agree to provide "a trainer." I'm so angry I could spit. This isn't over.

I live in San Diego, CA and had an active membership with Bally's Fitness until LA Fitness brought them out. The good thing was they didn't increase my original membership fee which i had with Bally's Fitness. My monthly fee is $19.99. For a while I had a good relationship with LA Fitness. None of the other staff ever bothered me which was good. I enjoyed pretty much just going to different LA Fitness Centers and having a nice quiet workout. One time, I was approached by a Personal Trainer at one of the centers. he gave me a 1 day complementary workout session. Then he tried to get me to get into one of their personal training program but he never pressured me or tried to con me in anyway to get it. So I left it at that. So for the next 3 months I have been going to 2 different LA Fitness Centers until the date of 7/15/12 when i went to another location here in San Diego. When I went in to that new location, one of their personal trainers had approached me while I was working out in one of the treadmills. We had a good conversation going and he appeared to really give me good advice and suggestions on how to work out properly. Then he gave me a complementary workout sessions with him and after it was over, he escorted me to his desk and offered me one of their Personal Trainers Program. Anyways, to make a long story short, I foolishly signed a contract which i later regretted because of financial situation. I tried to cancel and the other PT tried so hard to get me not to cancel. Then after working out, I returned to his little office and there was the main manger of the Center informing me I was too late to cancel. I had informed them i was not working very much and needed to cancel but she pretty much said there was nothing they could do. So here i am stuck with their PT agreement. They already took out $149 initiation fee plus the 1st months fee of $70. Now I am very angry and upset because i feel that personal trainer singled me out that day because of the color of my skin. I never once saw him approach another member at the center like a fellow Caucasian. Only me, a low-income Hispanic male. So pretty much I feel he conned me and there now nothing i can do. I do not hate LA Fitness, only the one which i was screwed over here in San Diego, CA

I wish I would have seen this sooner... I signed up at LA fitness and for persoanl training, they were very untruthfull and I cancelled both the member ship and personal training after 3 days.. in the last week they have managed to wipe out my checking account and owe me close to $1600 due to debiting my account over and over.. The managers at Akers Mill are very rude and customer service isnt much better, they should be kissing my feet for the amount of money the took from me... it could take up to 15 days to get my money back and thats not right.. this has to be a world record, 1600 dollars for a 4 day membership... I am still waiting for my money and have also contacted a law firm to see if there are any class action lawsuits against them in GA or how I can start one so this does not happen to anyone else... DO NOT JOIN LA FITNESS APRIL 14th 2011...

I am a member in Atlanta, Ga. at the Akers Mill location. I have had nothing but good experiences. The trainers are excellent!

I think that, as in every contract, you need to understand what you are getting. Also, be proactive with potential problems. Communicate with everyone involved and be patient!

LA Fitness International Terrible experience!

Without any prior warning or any issues prior to this, I was thrown out of the la fitness gym at this location on Sunday, December 23, 2007 by Mr Medrano. L.A. Fitness International, LLC 3420 Buford Dr NE Buford, GA 30519. I have contacted the regional manager, Mike Tuzzo for a full refund on the prepaid days I am unable to use. Mr Tuzzo telephone me yesterday on January 2, 2008 and issued a credit of 30 days for the month of January. I have prepaid for until February 15, 2008 and asked for the remaining days. He said he could not issue this and asked why. He said I could come back to the Buford gym to use the remaining days I have prepaid and let Mr Medrano know I will be back to the gym. I told Mr. Tuzzo I have already joined another gym and did not want to return to the gym where I was thrown out unjustifiably.

Lacks any customer service and will adhere to most disgusting way of banning people from the gym without total refund. LAfitness practices are slimy and even the regional manager is pretty back up any serious offenses his staff makes.

LA FITNESS sucks!

I too have had a similar neglecting, lied to experience, heard nothing but about what bad customer service they had, from friends, and now reading the comments on this sight makes me realize im not the only victim to miss treatment from this gym.-----Screw legal action!

I say we stand out side of the clubs and start a riett, holding up signs showing other people that might want to sign-up at this ### hole that they call a gym stir up comotion and maybe we can finally get them to listen to our complaints and do something about it, or maybe it will have such an effective strike against them that the gym will be forced to shut down completely!

I have also had a horrible experience at the Camp Creek location. I approached the manager to discuss my membership which was not what I signed up for (signed up for the multi-gym membership and was given the single gym). I was verbally assualted by the manager who reeked of marijuana and followed by him through the gym while trying to finish my workout. I have been attempting to contact the district or regional manager with no success. Called Corporate but no reasponse yet. If anyone could help with any contact information for the district or regional, i would appreciate it. My next step is to go legal.

i completely agree and more, for this terrible service of lafitness club.staffs are certainly carry no value at all about members and entire staffs mentalities are so low class anymember who enter this place no wonder they get additional stress to deal with all these absurd situation.these peole working in the lafitness centers absolutely need to evaluate their service attitudes toward members and non-members.
their greed toward financial gain by wrongfuly charging to member's even cancelled membershipfee is unexceptable to any one who understand the basic fact of business transaction.because no matter how big the company looks in the end it just their clients who decide that company's future as true or false.
in that sense lafitness club is rushing to downfall, and it will be the hard one.

LA Fitness International - contract impossible to cancel!

I recently attempted to cancel my LA Fitness training membership through Body of Change due to medical reasons. LA Fitness International failure to respond to a huge problem

Since nov 15, 2007, there has been little or no a/c or air circulation in the spin class room. The temperature in the room reaches nearly 100 degrees during the class. The instructor leaves the door open but blasts the music so loud that the other patrons in the main part of the gym cannot even hear their own ipods. Several times i've actually left the gym because I can't even hear the trainer talking to me without him yelling to be heard! I've called customer service 7 times in the past month and corporate 3 times and yet they claim there is nothing wrong & that an a/c company has already come to fix it! (yes, one day a company came to fix it and then the whole gym was like a sauna — so bad that they had to leave the front & side doors open to get air in!) doug sanchez, the supposed district manager, has done nothing to address the problem. Ben, the ops mgr, says that there is nothing wrong with the a/c. All we need is for someone to pass out from the intense heat in that room & then there'll be a lawsuit — then maybe they'll fix it! I hate this gym. However, there is a new gym opening up in the area soon & i'll definitely be transferring. You're right, once they got your money, they keep taking it... And screwing you in the meantime.

dear laura, has it dawned on you that a tiny room filled with 20-25 people undergoing accelerated body temperature/respiration might produce an inordinate amount of heat? in accordance with all of the known laws of the universe this is possible. secondly, you sweat more--big deal--don't you go into the sauna for the same? call it two birds with one stone. thirdly--WOW--7 times in one month eh? if your biggest problem in life is the temperature in your spin class, congratulations on the trophy marriage and your subsequent suburban blight.

-gymrat

p.s. music is supposed to be loud in the gym, perhaps you should join your fellow uber-sensitive overweight housewives at "curves" or "4 women only" and leave the rest of us to deal with life's nearly unberable circumstances.

p.p.s. just for fun, google "darfur" and see what pops up.

LA Fitness International hour of operation!

The gym used to be opened until midnight on the weekends, then 11pm, then 10pm, now 9pm! 10 was justifiable but 9pm is uncalled for. not to mention, they sold people on this gym and signed them up telling them the gym would be opened (with pool used as a selling point) by "next month" offering a small room with a few machines. they continued to do this for 1 full year until the gyms long overdue grand opening finally took place and the facilities were open (which by the way they have advertised "grand opening" for yet another year - without pool). the pool has finally been put in not more than a month ago. it took them 2 years of selling (lying) people on the pool until it was finally installed.

Plus, the trainers are a joke!

Ps - yet I still go...

Yes, I think it is total BS that they've done this... They did this in the Orange, CT location this year too... They started in November calling it "Winter Hours". They went from 11PM to 10PM during the week, and 10PM to 9PM on Friday... I"ve been a member for 4 years and this is the first time they've done this. I work out after I get my kids to bed.

I call once a month to complian, it take forever to get through... They even told me that they were going to restore the hours starting March 21st. Well, that has comen and gone...

LA Fitness International personal training is a sham

After listening to the announcement to come for my free assessment in January this year - I find myself locked into a contract, which if anything has only increased my stress and not my muscle tone.

The freely available trainers are mostly inadequately trained. The well qualified trainers are offered to the customers that pay more (have a higher category membership). The more than $150 per month does not even guarantee an assessment, unless you request it! A complaint about the service will simply prompt a response by the manager, that this is your own doing, and that you are not complaining enough, or not doing anything enough. If you suggest that they cannot meet your needs - well it is still your fault. Customer complaints are simply viewed by them as a means to end their lucrative contract, and that it is still all your fault.

I decided to contact our corporate liason person in Atlanta, whose name I will spare, as he tended to agree with the complaints. However after coming back after 5 days, following a promised 1 day response, his promise that the manager would contact me immediately has never realized. What a surprize. To Todd, who I hear from our gym, simply sits at home answering emails, you need to attend to your customers. But, never fear Todd, they also advise that you will not contact me anyway.

How LA Fitness stays in business - surprizes me. We the public are waking up. It reminds me of another fitness club that went out of business - leaving a lot of people out of pocket and unfit. Where is management? Where is consumer affairs?

I have to tell you that it doesn't matter how much you pay for a personal trainer. Body of Change doesn't care about you once you sign up. I pay $350.00 per month, and there are never any "Certified Trainers" available, but there are plent of Sales people standing around. I would love to cancel my membership, but that would cost quite alot of money as well.

It really is a sham and there should be a way to be able to complain and see a result. Instead the managers basically told me it was too bad.

LA Fitness International Impossible to cancel

La Fitness - www.lafitness.com
2880 N Druid Hills Rd Ne, Atlanta - [protected]

Office of the Attorney General

Attention: Mr. Greg Abbott

300 West 15th Street

Austin , TX 78701

Mr. Abbott,

We are writing you to file a formal complaint against La Fitness. Since August of 2007, we have been trying to pay our final bill and cancel our membership with LA Fitness.

Initially, we tried to pay the balance and cancel over the phone. Unfortunately, we were told we must come into the gym where we signed up. Once we journeyed to the gym, we would be permitted to cancel our membership.

We went to our local gym. The name an address is:

TOCO HILLS

2880 N. DRUID HILL

ATLANTA , GA 30329

[protected]

We told to speak to the “operations manager”. Her name is Ashley. Ashley told us we needed to update our account billing information. Since we were recently married, the old billing information was referring to our old account.

At that moment, we simply offered to pay cash, write a check or use the debit card. No payment option could be received at the club. Ironically, all forms of payments were accepted when opened the account.

Furthermore, we were told to go online to cancel our membership. Ashley asked me if we had an online account. We prompted said no. Ashley advised me that she could simply create an online account. Ashley asked to wait a moment so that she could create two online accounts. Once the two online accounts were created, Ashley assured me that we could login and cancel.

Once the account was created, we respectfully asked her to cancel our memberships. She told me that we had to go online ourselves to cancel the membership. She stated that she could not cancel our membership. However, instead, she would be very happy to go online and update our billing information. Ashley was very persisted with updated our billing information. This is weird anxiety especially if we were extremely desperate to cancel our account. Ashley told us that we had to go home and login to cancel the account.

We went home. We logged in an attempt to finally cancel our accounts. We prompted to download a cancellation form. Per the online instructions, we to complete the form and mail it to the below address:

LA Fitness International, LLC

2810 Trinity Mills #209 - #322

Carrollton, TX 75006

We did this. However, we are receiving calls from them asking us to update our billing information. We have been explained that we have cancelled our account and we followed the instructions to cancel our account by mailing in the form. We were told that they did not received the form. We demanded to be cancel while speaking to the representative on the phone. The representative said that they could not cancel our membership. They again, almost robotically, stated that they could go online and update our billing information.

Please review this web link for more detail as it further explains the ongoing pain of the cult-like activities of the gym.

Under separate cover, I will be mailing LA Fitness another final payment for my wife. We are concerned that this may impact our credit.

We would appreciate if you could address this issue.

This is the LA fitness in California at Valley View and Chapman. Managers are Evelyn Nonez and Matt(won't give me his last name)
To my surprise, a manager (Evelyn) came into the sona where I sit with the rest of the ladies and accused me that I am the one who use too much paper and she had talked to me before, if I continue to do that, my membership will be revoked. I asked her are you sure... it... was... I since I don't recall talking to you before. She insisted and called the cleaning ladies in and pointed at my face. I'm shock, after finish my shower, I came out and ask what is the manager name, and she get angry and ask for my membership card and said, She gonna revoke me right now. I said just give me your name and I will have my lawyer talk to you. She called another male manager (Matt) and they both act the same way. They give me their name and I ask for their phone number, they said I just have to look up them up myself. Oh my God! I don't know what to say to these people. I felt disrespecful, I don't pay LA fitness to get treated this way. I hope they refund my money and stop charging my credit card since Evelyn is the one who revoke my membership and said they would refund my money. Let wait and see if they honor their words. I'm sad by the accusation, I called the head quarter, no one pick up the phone. I wondered is there justice in LA fitness club?...how can they do this in America? I wonder how many got ill treated like I do?

Yes, they lied to me when they told me I could just pay for 3 months (North Brunswick, NJ) since I only needed membership over the winter.

As my membership "ended" in March, I discarded their card, and never went back...

They kept withdrawing from my account for one month after that, well I thought maybe I owe them some. Then another month was charged, at this point they have 6 months of fraudulent charges.

I finally told my bank not to allow more withdrawals. Over the next two weeks I received over 10 calls per week from LA Fitness (texas, Californaia, etc.) . No I do not have time to talk top you clowns and fools at LA fitness!

Finally, I sent a letter to CANCEl, but they still claim I owe them one month!

I did enjoy their facilities, that is the only good thing. I wish they could just take a check for three months and never touch my account.

Yes, it also passed my mind. Close your bank account when you are ready to cancel membership!

Bank of America will not honor my request to deny withdrawal of funds from LA FITNESS unless it is for a specific dollar amount (example $40.00). Now this is about Bank of America. Bank of America will decline withdrawal that month for $40 from LA Fitness, but would otherwise authorize withdrawal of $48.14. Verified with their customer service (BofA).

I thought that was MY bank account.

I have experienced that here in Australia. The gym continued to withdraw from my account for 2 months. I complained to the bank.

In the end I had to change my account number with my bank.

What a hassle, hence why I will never join a gym again.

I'll be happy to join a class action lawsuit. The only way that you can cancel it is to go to the facility, fill out the paper work there, and send it REGISTERED mail. Or else you'll get the "We have no record of receiving a cancellation request".

I just printed off my cancellation form and will mail it in tomorrow...can't wait to see how annoying the next few months will be! woo hoo!
I'll be more than happy to help a class action suit get filed if I run into the many problems I've read on this site and others!
To be continued...

I myself joined lafitness in March of 08. Shortly thereafter, my daughter (9) was diagnosed with Type1 diabetes. My heart and sole felt as if it had been ripped out of my body.

I understood from lafitness that I had a one year membership (no cancellation) and they signed me up (I didn't realize they did so) for three months of training. Which was a joke. 6 visits 5 trainers. HELLO!

I've been trying to cancel for over a year and to date they are still taking money from my account, over $700 and I can't cancel.

Looks as if we are off to court.
