Kohl's - discrimination

Decided to go shopping at this store, which was not my normal location for shopping. However, while I was shopping with my son, I needed to get through a group of customers socializing taking up the whole aisle. Well, I figured that I would wait a few seconds and one of them would notice that I needed to get through. This never happened, even though one of the male customers was slightly turned in my direction so he was aware of me standing and waiting with my stroller so I could get through. I was actually on my cell phone, talking to my husband when I said "excuse us". They proceeded to move, but with a stare like I had done something wrong to them. Then I returned back to my phone conversation, I hear the male blurt out "We weren't in your way, ###." And I repeated exactly what he said back to him. I then decided to leave the department, as the group just stares. By then, one of the associates comes the male said that I cursed him out, during this time the rest of his friends leave and go to another department. The associate says, "I'm going to call security and ask for you to leave the premises." While the male that called me the ### said that he was going to call the police. I told him to call, and that I'll wait, because I knew that I was telling the truth as to what had happened. I explained to the associate that I wouldn't dare curse with my kids in my presence. And that the word that he used wouldn't have been a word of my vocabulary. By this time, I just wanted to drop the clothes that I was buying and just walk out. But I went to check out instead. Then security comes and pretends to be looking at jewelry until I paid for my items. As I look to where the male customer was I had the altercation with, I noticed the same associate talking privately with him.

What bothers me about the situation that encountered on this day is this:
Not one associate came to my defense to see if my son and I were okay. My assumption is this, I'm a African American and the male customer was Caucasian. This automatically triggered to the associate that I was in the wrong which I knew I wasn't. Her statement "I'm going to call security and have you removed from the premises." Not even knowing the story as to what led to the altercation. I'll never EVER shop there again. They need to learn how to correctly deal with situations like this.

For the record, Kohls Department stores and associates, not all African Americans are liars, stealers and/or mouthy as perceived to be. Some of us do have alot of class to ourselves, money and an education. There can be Caucasians in the world that are ignorant and just observe things as one-sided. This situation was one of them.

I WAS HIRED TO BE A CASHIR [protected] AS CASHIER.

THINGS WERE PRETTY GOOD- FOR MOST I WORKED WITH. I HAD A
PROBLEM WITH A PAYROLL CHECK-THAT I ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGED- ON OR ABOUT [protected]
OR SO. THIS CHECK WAS DATED ON OR ABOUT 8-30 2014 OR SO. I AM GUESSING HERE- BECAUSE
I AS DIRECTED RETURNED ON 9-7, 2014 AS

DIRECTED BY A HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICE-TO ONE OF THE CORPORATE
SECRETARY- FOR UPPER MANAGEMENT. HER NAME WAS “MONICA”. I HAD CONTACTED ANYONE
WHO COULD HELP ME GET MY CHECK REPLACED.

MEANWHILE, DUE TO THE MISSING ROUTING NUMBERS- 5 PLACES
WOULD CASH IT. I CALLED JAMIE TO TELL HER THAT, “JAMIE- NOBODY WOULD CASH THIS
DAMAGED CHECK- AND THEY ALL TOLD ME, “TAKE THIS CHECK BACK TO MY MANAGER- AND
TELL THEM TO REPLACE IT”. LATER THE NEXT DAY, MONICA CALLED OUR STORE- BUT
JAMIE WAS NOT WORKING THAT DAY. SO, LUKE- WAS IN CHARGE THAT DAY. MONICA
INSTRUCTED “LUKE” TO REQUEST MONICA TO HAVE JAMIE REQEST A RE-PRINTED CHECK.

LUKE DID. I SAW HIM THE NEXT DAY. LUKE APPERARED TO BE VERY
MAD. I ASKED HIM ABOUT MY CHECK, AND HE REPLIED, “I DID HAVE JAMIE TO REPLACE
THE CHECK.

LATER THE NEXT DAY, I ASKED TO TALK TO JAMIE- BUT SHE
IGNORED ME, AND HAD AN AGRY LOOK IN HER FACE. SO, I GAVE UP. I WAS VERY NICE,
BUT SHE REFUSED ANY COMMUNICATION WITH ME. SO, I GAVE UP.

ON [protected], THE END OF MY SHIFT, JAME CAME TO MY
REGIISTER, AND SAID TO ME “LESLIE COME TO MY OFFICE RIGHT NOW.

HOWEVER, WHEN I GOT TO THE OFFICE AREA, JAMIE DIRECTED ME TO
LOSS PREVENTION’S OFFICE. HIS NAME IS “PARKER”.
JAMIE SHUT THE DOOR. I COULD NOT IMAGINE WHAT WAS GOING.

SO, PARKER SHUT THE DOOR, AND HE =- OR JAMIE SAID TO ME, “SOMEONE
ELSE WAS ON THE SPEAKER TELEPHONE. THE LADY ON THE SPEAKER TELEPHONE WAS THE
NAME OF “VANESSA—FROME VIRGINA **

SO, VANESSA INRODUCED HER SELF AS “VANESSA” . VANESSA ASKED
ME, HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR JOB?

I RESPONDED, “OKAY”. SHE ASKED ME, HOW DID I LIKE MY
TRAINING?” I SAID ABOUT A “SEVEN”.

SHE THANKED ME FOR THAT.

THE NEXT QUESTIONS WERE IN THE CONVERSATION OF. “HOW DID I
LIKE THE TRAINING”? I SAID ABOUT THE
SAME. THE NEXT STATEMENTS ARE IN QUOTES “VANESSA WENT ON TO SAY THAT SHE CAN
SEE ALL OF ME- IN FRONT OF THE REGISTER, SEND SECRTE SHOPPERS TO ME. SHE TOLD
ME SHE COULD SEE ME WITH HER PENCIL ERASER CAMERAS TO WATCH ME. SHE SAID,
EVERYONE CAN SEE ME, ESPECIALLY. SHE TOLD ME THAT PARKER HAS BEEN WATCHING ME
FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND HE SAW EVERY MOVE I MADE. OK. SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE
ALSO HAS BEEN WATCHING ME FOR A VERY LONG TIME. SHE WENT ON TO SAY THAT BOTH HER AND PARKER HAVE SEEN
ME CARYYING LARGE AMOUNTS OF “KHOL’S CASH –TENDERED CUSTOMER’ COUPOND CASH AND
MERCHANSIDE CREDIT CARDS BEING STUFFED IN MY POCKETS EVERY SHIFT THAT I WORKED.
THEY WERE SO FULL OF MONEY.”

VANESSA AND PARKER WENT ON TO THE NEXT VARIETY OF
ACCUSATIONS. VANESSA TOLD PARKER TO TELL ME AND ASKED ME WHY DID I GIVE 30%
DISOUNTS TO CUSTOMERS—THOSE DISCOUNTS? PARKER SAID IT ADDED UP TO BE $300.00
WORTH AND ABOUT $150.00 IN PRICE ADJSTMENTS TO CUSTOMERS- WHEN LUKE- ON ONE
SHEET OF PAPER CALLED ME TO THE SIDE AND TOLD ME TO STOP GIVING 30% AND PRICE
ADJUSTMENTS? YES, YOU KNOW IT LESLIE- YOU KNOW IT LESLIE—LESLIE YOU KNOW THIS LESLIE-YOU KNOW
IT LESLIE-=-YOU KNOW IT LESLIE –WHY LESLIE? WHY LESLIE? WHY LESLIE” YOU KNOW IT
LESLIE.

WELL, IT IS MY TIME TO COMMENT HERE. “TO ANSWER THESE
QUESTIONS- IS THAT I HAD NO COMMENT- WHEN THEY HATEFULLY QUESTIONONG ME-
AND I SAD, I HAD NO COMMENT TO ANY OF
THOSE QUESTIONS TO ADMIT TO THEM BECAUSE I WAS NOT QUILTY.

I SAID TO THEM THAT I WAS TAUGHT TO DO THOSE THINGS. NONE OF
THEM WERE IN EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS THAT ADDED UP AND BESIDES THAT- NEARLY 89% FO
THEM RESULTED OF ME CALLING OVER A SUPERVISOR FOR ASSISTANCE FOR DISGRUNTLED
CUSTOMERS, AND I EXPLAINED MY STATEMENTS WERE OUT OF SUPERVISORS TEACHING ME
THOSE STEPS TO “””HIGHLY SATISFIED CUSTOMERS.”

WELL, I DID NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN TO “HIGHLY
SATISFIED” CUSTOMERS ALWAYS.

I WILL TELL YOU THIS: 100% AND I REPEAT 100%-5 THOUSAND %-
NO SUPERVISOR EVER DENIED ONE SINGLE AND NONE OF THEM EVER DEINIED THE CUSTOMER
ONE SINGLE THING.

I WILL TELL YOU THIS MUCH: KHOL’S DEPARTMENT STORE- GIVES
AWAY THOUSANDS OF MONEY AND KHOL’S CASH, MERCHANDISE CARDS EVERY WEEK, AND A
WHIOLE BUNCH EVERYDAY. AND FOR THEM TO THEM ATTEMPT ACCUSE ME OF STUFFING MY
POCKETS CASH COUPONS AND OTHER UNEARNED OR DISPOSED CASH.

I WILL TELL YOU THIS: NONE OF THE OUTFITS I EVER WORE
CONTAINED POCKETS. IN ANY RETAIL SETTING- I HAVE NEVER CARRIED A PROCKET BOOK,
PURSE, BAG, SACK, BIG POCKETS, LITTLE POCKETS TO ANY EMPLOYER, WHERE CASH WAS
HANDLED. I CARRY A LONG STRING- COLORED, ORANGE AND RED, A LARGE RING, -HOLDING
5 KEYS. I WOULD DRAPE THEM UNDER MY UNDERWARE. YES, I REPEAT DRAPED UNDER MY
PANTIES, AND HANGING OUT.

SO, THAT CLARIFED THAT. SO, I DID NOT NEED ANY POCKETS TO CARRY
OUT MERCHANDISE. I WILL TESTIFY THAT I MY KEYS WERE UNDER MY PANTIES.

SO, WHERE DID PARKER AND VANESSA GET THOSE ACCUSATIONS. I
USUALLY CARRY A PURSE AND MATCHING SHOES TO WEDDINGS, CHURCH, FUNERALS AND SOME
COMMUNITY EVENTS.

NOW, BACK TO THE STORY. REGARDING MY STATEMENT OF A FORM THAT I WAS
FORCED TO SIGN, I ASKED PARKER- FOR A COPY. PARKER ASKED

“JAMIE FOR AUTHORIZATION TO GIVE ME ONE” JAMIE REPLIED, “I DON’T
CARE” THEN PARKER REPLIED, “I DON’T KNOW, BUT MY GUT FEELING DECISION IS “””NO”””.

SO, PARKER AND VANESSA UNDER DUE STRESS AND TRAUMA, HAD ME
TO FILL OUT A FORMAL STATEMENT. I ASKED WHY. THEY DID NOT ELABORATE. SO, I FILLED
IT OUT. PRIOR TO ME FILLING IT OUT, I WAS THREATENED BY VANESSA WAS IT
NECESSARY “LESLIE” TO GET OTHER PARTIES INVOLVED LESLIE?”

I DID NOT ANSWER THAT BECAUSE I HAD OTHER THINGS IN MIND FOR
THEM—TO HAVE THEM FILL OUT “THEIR”
FORMS, FOR THEIR SUPERIORS AND OTHER AGENTS.

THAT STORE IS HATEFUL, UNDER COVER OERATED, GIVES THOUSANDS
OF MONEY AWAY. THE STORE WILL TELL CUSTOMERS TO KEEP THEIR RECEIPTS FOR ITEMS
PURCHASED, KEEP THEM UNTIL THE NEXT SALE AND THEY WILL GIVE THEM THE
DIFFERENCES BACK. [protected]% OF THE TIME.

THEY WANT TO FRAME ME--- TO KEEP PRIVATE THE MILLION DOLLARS
THAT THEY ARE STEALING FROM KHOL’S? ME

THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIDE THAT YOU WILL SOON ENOUGH HAVE “””EVERY”””SINGLE””””MILLION
AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS THAT ALL OF THE UNDERCOVER PERSONAL SIGNON NUMBERS AND
EMERGENCY EMPLOYEES PERSONAL SIGNONS- YOU WILL SOON ENOUGH BE REQUESTED IN
KANSAS CITY AND THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND UNDER COVER AGENCY TO SHUT YOUR
KCK STORE DOWN.

THOUGHT HE WAS GOING INTO CARDIO ARREST. I WAS QUITE CONCERNED. I ASKED THE
CUSTOMER, “WHAT IS THIS THING?” HE SAID, I DON’T KNOW, BUT IT IS A VERY
EXPENSIVE ITEM- TO USE WITH SOME TYPE OF VIDEO CARD- IPOD OR SOMETHING. SOMEONE
TOLD ME TO COME IN- AND TO HURRY UP!~!

THIS TOOK PLACE AROUND 8 OR 9 PM. IT WAS BEFORE 10PM, IF MY
MEMORY SERVES ME RIGHT.

YES, MRS HUDSON, I WAS TAUGHT HOW TO USE DISCOUNTS- EVEN
THOSE TO USE “WITH MY OWN DISCRETION” I AM 51 YEARS OLD, AND ONE MAIN INCOME,
AND I IKNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG. I KNOW HOW TO USE DISCRETION. I HAD A RIGHT TO
WORK FOR AN HONEST COMPANY. BUT I MUST SAY THAT YOUR SURVEYS WILL SPLILL THE
BEANS MRS. HUDSON. DON’T LOOK IN MY CLOSET MRS. HUDSON AND LOOK FOR MY PANTS
WITH POCKETS THAT I WORE TO KCK KHOL’S. YOU WILL NOT FIND THEM. SOME OF THEM

ON ANY FILM DATING BACK TO ANY GIVEN DAY WILL YOU FIND THAT
I NEVER STUFFED ANY POCKETS- AND THOJSE WORN TO A RETAIL STORE IN MANAGEMENT IN
A LARGE RETAIL STORE WILL YOU FIND ME STUFFING CASH INTO MY POCKETS. THIS GOES
FOR FEMINE PRODUCTS. I USE REGULAR TISSUE PAPER FOR THAT POINT. SO, FOR THIS
ISSUE, YOU SEE- I REALLY DON’T NEED POCKETS.

Eh, actually, it doesn't sound like racial discrimination.

It sounds to me like the associate was believing the customer that came to them with an issue.

I'd assume it would have played out the same way if you'd come to the associate and informed them that a customer was cursing at you. They would have taken your side.

Please don't just jump to racial discrimination. That's ugly and disgusting. If we're ever going to move past racism as a world, we need to put these notions behind us. You need to stop automatically assuming that just because your skin color is different than the other person, that that means they're being discriminatory because of it.
