Kaplan University doesn't answer phones

I have been trying to get a copy of my transcripts from kaplan for weeks now. I have sent 3 letters with no response. I have called them and been put on "auto-hold" for over 30 minutes at least 3 times - never does a real person answer the phone - never! I finally used their "24-hour chat online" and got an email for the registrar's office, but they don't answer emails, either, apparently. I'm trying to get into another online school to further my education, but without the transcript from kaplan, the other school won't enroll me. I cannot believe that they don't have live people answering their phones. I've tried different times of the day and even a different number than the toll-free one.

I don't know whether or not kaplan reads these reports or even cares, but I would not recommend them to anyone trying to go to school online.

I have had so much trouble with this school and I do not recommend to anyone, even my own worst enemy, to enroll in this school. They ONLY care about money, that is it. My mom received a Bachelors from there and not one place that she has interviewed at will accept this degree. I was one semester away from obtaining my associates, but then I magically owed them $2400. So the kicked me out mid semester because I couldn't pay them on top of their ridiculous $10000 a year cost.

Now I have paid them off and I am trying to get my transcripts and no one will answer the phone. I have literally been on auto hold for 30 minutes, 3 times. I am enraged by this and I am thinking of gathering as many of their victims as I can and for a class action suit against them. Please send me an email at someboss1@gmail.com so we can see what we can do legally. I really want them to pay for what they have been doing to people.

Kaplan University financial aid

Ok, I enrolled at Kaplan university last year, and they had me submit documents, you know the usual stuff. But I sent in the documents, then they said that I had to resubmit them, again, and again, and again. This went for a couple months, then around Christmas, I got a message that because I didn't submit the documents in time (I had them in Around July), I had to pay a late submission fee of $6, 000. They called me 3 or more times of day, I finally got them to stop. I wish to fight them on the $6000 fee, if nothing else.

All I am trying to say is, DO NOT DEAL WITH KAPLAN. I am serious about this, they are frauds.

kaplan university is the worst school i have ever attended. the financial aid dept. is ridiculously slow. i have been attending kaplan since march 25 and it is june 5 and now i have been blocked from signing in. and i am not able to start my june classes because kaplan is saying that i have missing documents. but i don't have missing documents, i have filled out the form that they are saying i am missing 5 times and i have 5 confirmations from me faxing it to them. when i call them they dont respond to me until weeks later. the customer service people are very very rude. choosing kaplan was the biggest mistake i ever made.

I withdrew from Kaplan University in May. I had to withdraw because they never received my transcripts from University of Phoenix. I talked to my Academic advisor about withdrawing because they never got my transcripts. She stated that she will send an email to my financial aid officers (who is useless, never return calls and never return emails). I took two classes from Kaplan University and had to withdraw. The totalled student loans for this school was $6400.00. When I withdrew form Kaplan, I went back to University of Phoenix to pursue my Bachelor degree. My FAO from University stated that I could not received the full amount of FAid because I have an overlapping from Kaplan University. I tried to call this school for 5 days, I always be on hold for about 30 to 45 minutes. You never get a chance to talk to anyone, but the sometimes the academic advisor. To make the story short...they are trying to say that I owe the full amount because I attended the two classes and the lender is not eligible for an refunded back. I talked to this FA officers named Whitney and she stated that they made a mistake about taking the full amount for $6400.00 and my lender would be refunded half of the money back so that I will get funding for University of Phoenix. This should have been taking care of last week, but guess what! it was not done. I called and talked to a guy name Shawn (FA counselor) and he stated that the amount was correct and I need to talk to the FAid Officer about cancelling my funds. I thought they did this already when I talk to my academic advisor and that sorry useless FAid Officer about withdrawing and they support to have cancel my loans. I'm disappointed in this school, because they are not on top of their GAMES when it comes down to their students that are trying to pursue a good education in this world. So, I think that I will probably have to pay money out of my pocket for University of Phoenix to received my Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. I would not suggest this school to anyone. Please make sure that you check out the schools for and their complaints. Because I thought this school was a good school to attended. It was HORRIBLY!.

Kaplan University Financial Office sucks, it makes you frustrated and you think its you but its them, I have had 4 FAO this term of obtaining my BA in Managment. They have told me that I have exhausted my funds for and that I owe them 6500.00 and the bad thing about it is that I am suppose to graduate June 2010. Until I can come up with 13, 898.00 I will not obtain my BA. I obtained my AS in Criminal Justice emphasis Corrections from them and had no problems but this time I am frustrated and going to the Dept of Ed and do whatever I have to do to obtain my degree.

MY name is kenisa slaughter I started kaplan april 21st I think, which was suposed to be the first day of classes. I was in Intro classes and in order to NOT be in intro classes i had to take a test before hand, I dont remeber what it was called I passed it once and i think i got a 15. They told me if i took it again and made a 20 I believe it was then i wouldnt have to be in intro classes so i took it again and made a score that would qualify me to NOT be in intro classes. They school told me I couldnt start my classes till my financial aid was approved and I got the last paper faxed in on the first day of classes and they had blocked me that morning from my classes but then reopend them in the same day so i could begin my class work, they told me my fianancial aid had been approved. In one week I faxed in 3-4 different papers atleast 4 times each and each time i filled out a paper i was on the phone with someone from kaplan that went over the paper work with me and told me what to fill out. So if i did exactly what they told me to do why did i still have to keep filling out the same papers over and over again and sometimes making corrections to the same papers that they themselves helped me fill out. I ended up doing three weeks worth of into classes, Two of them. They crap with kaplan and the paper work kept on and on and i got so tired of talking to different people, Never getting phone calls returned, Being on hold for hours on end. I did everything they told me to do and got it done on time and they still kept asking for the same papers, It was like no one at kaplan knew what they were doing. I always talked to someone different it was hardly ever the same person. I made corrections to my FASFA atleast 3 times because one employee at kaplan told me to put yes on something that i actually needed to put No on. I got so fed up that I called my advisor, His name was bill. I told them i wanted to un enroll at kaplan and no longer wanted to attend their school. It has been impossible to un enroll. I tried to un enroll about 2 months ago and i am still not un enrolled and I found out I did three weeks worth of classes and my financial aid had never been approved in the first place. Now they are wanting me to pay them $3, 772.50 for THREE WEEKS! My financial aid was suposed to be approved and it wasnt, they lied to me! They tried talking me out of un enrolling, I almost thought they werent going to let me then they downed me from dropping out and telling me that i just needed to finish my classes. After I talked to two people about un enrolling they told me i had to be transferd to fianancial aid to get that set up and find out how much i would owe but i shouldnt have to owe anything. You cant tell me financial aid wont pay for three weeks worth of two classes!? I havent heard from them since i tried un enrolling until the end of may 2010 and now they are asking me to send in the same papers i have sent in 6 times or more! Im so tired of this and i dont feel i should have to pay them anything! I told them from the start I cant affor anything, I cant pay for anything! I dont have any proof of anything other then family witness's and the calls that are suposed to be recorded at kaplan.
Im 19yrs old and I have my own house and I do not live with my father. Kaplan has claimed me as a dependant because i am not married, I dont have kids and Im not 25yrs. Old. I have never heard of such crap! They wanted my father to take out a parent loan... FOR WHAT? Hes not going to school I am. Which im not now. I dont know what to do, Kaplan has really screwed me over

Greetings,

I (like many others) am currently experiencing difficulty with the financial aid department at Kaplan University. My documents never appear when they are sent and no one seems to know where they are going. I have completed some of them for the current semester close to a dozen times with no luck at all. Also I have recently received an email which states that the majority of documents that I have submitted since begining are either incorrect or missing. Several of these documents were done according to the person on the other end of the phone who happened to be my appointed financial aid officer. I have concluded that if I must leave this university before I am finished in order to avoid being cheated any further financially I will fail the required 2 courses so that I am officially kicked out. Afterward I will simply take my college transcripts to a real university. Although I will have incurred debt, at this point this has already happened and I will simply do what I must to avoid further costs.
To those people who are being harrassed I advise that you always document the date, time, and person who called you on the phone. Most states have laws against harrassement and generally require you to tell the other person to cease contacting you on the phone and do so only through the United States Postal Service. This next step only works if you use something like AT&T because you will need to contact them about the harassment and they will then place a trace on your phone line, (they do not listen to your calls but merely record who is calling you) and then send a cease and desist letter to those offending. You will receive documentation from the phone company once the investigation is complete and then if you are still being bothered you will have some of the documentation to take with you when seeking legal counsel. Always gather any and all documents that you have sent and received from the offending party for the lawyer before going otherwise it is a waisted trip.
Although Kaplan is a wealthy institution a class action suit will certainly cause them discomfort in a major way so keep all of this in mind when seeking counsel.

Hello, I enrolled in Kaplan University online for an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. I was approved for PELL GRANT and Loans. For the several years I attended Kaplan, my loans covered my tuition, but Kaplan University never gave me a check for my grant money. I never recieved a dime from them. I had to withdraw from the school due to an illness and when I withdrew, I had a credit on my account. Then I recieved a call saying I owed them $700.00 now they are saying I owe $1700.00. This school is preventing me from starting Law School because they refuse to send my transcripts until I pay them what I dont owe. I really need help finding out where I go from here. They have turned me into collections, but no one at Kaplan can tell me what collection agency and who to contact. If anything, Kaplan owes me money for keeping all my excess financial aid.

I have attended Kaplan University online since march of 2010. I have had no problems with financial aid until just recently. I understand that they cannot release any kind of excess amount to the student until the loans have been processed. My loans have been processed last week on the 12/29/2011. Just wanted to mention that I have a credit on my account right now. when we start our new term, it takes up to four weeks to release the amount. today marks the fourth week mark, and still no check from the school. I called the school to figure out when I will be due a check and they told me that they have no record about me getting a check. Then after about a thirty minute hold, they tell me that it may take another three days to process the ticket that they put on my account and then after that may take another seven days to send me the check. I am almost done with the school to get my degree. I should not have to wait this long when it has not taken that long to send me a check before. Whats the point in going to school?

I was packaged my financial award in June. My classes were paid for on June 27, 2012 and I was to receive a stipend. The people in the financial aid office failed to submit the request for all my loans to be disbursed and I am currently waiting on them to be processed. I had to call every department just to see what was going on and I finally got an answer from one person named Ken. It seems like he is the only person in the school that actually knows what he is talking about and he should be promoted for it. These people gave me a runaround for a two minute answer, someone was not doing their job correctly. So far my experience at this school has been great up until today. Everyone seems like they are just there for the check. If they are not going to do their job properly then maybe they should hire people that really need the job and the money. I should not have had to call and make sure my schooling is paid for, that is what they are there for. Then for everyone to have the answer of "i don't know" tells me no one really reviewed my account when I was sitting there reading the paper to the lady. How can I see it, but they can't and it is entered by them? The laziness of these people are ridiculous and everyone should be reviewed on their job performance except for Ken, he is really great. I hope to not have these problems in the future because if so, I willl have no problem attending another school where I know the people will do their job accurately...just pitiful

As I was reading the complaints by other Kaplan students, I realize I have gone through some of the same experiences. I have been locked out of my classes twice since I have started in February of 2011. I receive calls continuously about sending documents I have already sent several times. I have financial aide to pay for my full tuition and I keep getting told I will be locked out of my classes again, if I do not pay $11.000.00. Which somehow my financial status went from full FAFSA to self-pay. I agree with the comments about Kaplan. I feel they should be accountable for their envolvement in defrauding the government and their students.

I am under the same situation, I am in my forth year and they are telling that I owe them over #3750.000 of which I don't have. No one can tell me why I owe this money I have never had to pay this amount before. I was caught right out of left field with it.

Who do we go to, to complaint about the messed up system.

Kaplan University student loan fraud

I attended school at Hamilton College starting fall quarter of 2009 and graduating in April 2000. All my education funding went directly to the school and was never in my hands. During the course of my education I did question the financial aid officer a few times over what appeared to be discrepancies. Upon graduating in April 2000. I applied for deferments. I notice that deferments is plural, this is because they kept losing my paperwork. Now this college promises Job placement services... I want to state at this time I have never had any job placement services, nor have I ever worked in this field. My education is nothing more than an expensive piece of paper that keeps kicking me in the butt. So let me go on. Supposedly my deferment was received. I say supposedly because at this point and time I honestly am questioning everything. Around 2004 the IRS garnishes my wages for the Department of Education. Now remember I am supposed to be under a deferment still. Than the IRS offsets my income tax for these loans. Now the company I was working for at the time of these garnishments and offsets was trying to find a legal way to fire me because I have a hearing disability. This company had a practice of hiring people with disabilities but making sure they were out the door within 90 days. I had slipped through the cracks. So by the time they had found out I had a disability it was "war" at work. Every day was a battle to keep my job. So during this time I was trusting the company to keep garnishing my wages. I just recently found out that apparently during the last 6 months of my employment they were not garnishing my wages, they had flagrantly disregarded that order. So after my termination from this company, I was in a civil rights case for 3 years. During that 3 years I had a hard time finding steady work. And quite honestly the last thing I was thinking about was student loans. Finally in 2009 I began working for a company that hires people with disabilities. Great company. Prior to starting work with this company I and my DARS representative had begun looking back into my student loans. My wife had called the Hamilton College, now called Kaplan University and asked for a copy of all my Promissory Notes. We did this because I had explained how there had been discrepancies while I was attending school. According to the Department of Education I have five (5) Promissory Notes. So my wife requested a copy of those and all payments made, and any other information they had on file. I began work. As soon as I began work all those Promissory notes went into Default status. I guess I am confused how it was not default status until they realized I had a job. Anyway we waited for the paperwork. It arrived and there was a copy of three (3) Promissory notes only, and a paper stating I had Pell Grants totaling over $5000. Now the total of my education was a little over $9000. Like I said earlier, all my loans and grants went straight into the financial aids hands. I did not use any of this money for living expenses, it all was paid directly to the college. I worked full time as well as attending college full time to pay for myself. Of the (3) Promissory Notes, my wife noticed immediately that one Promissory note was scratched out in a couple of places and that the initials placed next to the money amount that was scratched out was not how I initial documents. She also questioned my signature because it was slanted to the left and the copy appears like someone had whited out underneath this signature and the top of it is somewhat cut off, almost like it was traced or copied and pasted. Right away my wife was suspicious. So she called the college again and explained that two of the Promissory notes were not included. They explained that they requested this information from the Department of Education. So my wife contacted the Department of Education requesting the other two Promissory Notes. Now in the mean time because I am in "default status" now, I began getting collection calls over my student loans. So my wife asked them also for a copy of everything. Everything being: All promissory notes, all monies paid into this account and any and all paperwork available. Now the collection agency also requests this from the Department of Education. So all in all we ended up requesting this information (5) times. And to date, no one has ever been able to produce those missing (2) promissory notes. So now after months of threats from the Collection Companies and us awaiting paperwork, my wife calls the Department of Education, documenting each call, and eventually recording all calls between them, us and even the collection agencies. And we find out that we can contest the loan with what I call "a fraudalent signature" but we have to submit handwriting examples from one year prior to that loan being taken out, and one year after that loan being taken out. So we think okay we can do that... what we did not know until later is they only accept certain documents. So we are still working on that. Now by now we are talking about fighting all of this for approximately (9) months now. Each time we would talk to someone from the Department of Education we would get another story. Each time we talked to the Collection Agency we would get another story. So between stories and threats we honestly did not know what was the truth. So let's go back to the missing Promissory notes. In the course of all this my wife was told by the Department of Education that if we did not receive the Promissory notes in the next (6) weeks to call them back and they would ask the Lender to than supply copies and if the Lender did not have a copy than the loans would be removed. So we waited for the 6 weeks. We received no Promissory notes, so my wife calls back and explains to the next operator at the Department of Education that we have not received them and she would like them to now go to the Lender. At this point they tell her that it doesn't work that way.. surprise surprise. They explain that we can apply for a discharge and explain our reasons. Now in the course of waiting for this paperwork to apply for this discharge it comes to our attention via a very helpful operator at the Department of Education that these two loans that we are missing the paperwork on, were taken out AFTER I had already graduated from college. Now I have certified copies of my transcripts. However also in the course of this whole investigation, Hamilton College has "attendance records" of me barely attending classes for which these loans were taken out. Now the interesting thing about these classes is 1. They look like they are first year classes 2. They were not classes required for my degree 3. One was a class I would never have taken. 4. I barely attended these classes according to their attendance records and I received no credits for these classes. 5. I was working elsewhere at the time and after feeling that Hamilton College had been a waste of my time I had had no desire to continue my education. I needed to get ahead not behind. Anyway the paperwork for discharge did come in the mail. I did fill it out and re-submit it. Now according to the Department of Education the minute they receive that paperwork, all my loans were to be pulled from the Collection Company and put into an investigation process. All collection calls were to stop. I get called by this Collection Company numerous times a day while I am at work. They are threatening to garnish my wages. They have already offset my income tax. At this point you may ask about what has been paid in prior to this. Well the Department of Education sent me out a letter stating that they had no such records. So I have spent the last month fighting with the company I worked for (mentioned above) to get a copy of the garnishment and all wages garnished from my paycheck back than. This is how I found out that they did not completely comply with the garnishment. Maybe. I say maybe because I have my paycheck stubs in storage somewhere I do not remember a time when I was not garnished, so I am currently looking for those to see if my stubs match their records. In the mean time I have submitted all proof of payments made on these loans to the Department of Education. I have also asked that the loan with the scratch outs and contested signature be discharged based on evidence I presented showing how I initial official documents and based upon paperwork that says if the paper is unreadable or has too many scratch outs or no initials it be discharged. Now at this point my loan is up to over 13, 000. Each time it is given to a Collection Agency more fee's are tacked on. So basically everything that I have paid until this point have been tossed away. We have tried to consult a lawyer about all of this but have not found a Lawyer that handles these kind of problems, so my wife has spent her free time studying and trying to find out what to do. Last week she got an email from change.org, this is a petition site where another individual had brought for a petition against Kaplan University. Same practices, same fraudulent loans and this individual had uncovered how the company that owns the University has been covering these practices up for years. They have literally targeted low income individuals, un-wed mothers, and minorities knowing that statistically the odds of them finishing college or paying off their debt was slim. Apparently these companies will get their money one way or another. So anyone out there that has been burned by a financial aid, the College, Kaplan, Hamilton or any of these small Universities, or maybe even the Government, please respond back... We would love to hear from you. And will be glad to share anything we have learned and hope someone can help us also.

Kaplan University rip off!

The following is what I am going through now for Kaplan University…and Ideas of help…They need to be blown out the water!
You stated that my EFC (expected family contribution) increased in [protected]…but…I was not even working at the time…the year after that I was on unemployment…it’s all in my taxes…I do not understand how you are even getting these numbers. I looked back at the documents and I also have them dated correctly.…I was not the one who submitted them in late back then. My question as well is why did fafsa and you approve that pell grant if there wasn’t an issue then?…Meaning…IT WAS APPROVED…NO ISSUE WAS BROUGHT UP BACK THEN AS WELL! Plus in the documents is still shows approved, with the dates! Why with my taxes this year while I am working am I eligible for pell grants…but back then when I was not working you claim my EFC went up…what are you talking about…they did more than 1 audit through the time I have been here with you. I also had a finance judgment done last year because they raised my EFC and found it a mistake and they yet rewarded me with a pell grant….Look I am sorry I may pay this balance off…but I am still contacting a litigation firm and in the process with dealing with a business lawyer now…I am sure you will get the details here soon enough…I disagree with you…I had never heard of getting approved for a pell grant 3 years ago and then this year it gets taken away from me. I am sorry as well…whatever happens…happens…I am going to fight this. I will pay for a lawyer either way…I still have all my documents and with the proper dates…whatever your people did is your issue to solve…
Please check the attachments for the proper dates…like I said the document was on time and approved!…QUIT WITH THE GAMES! I have 2 of these documents in the attachments… the document 2 was dated on 4/17/09 and the document 1 was dated on 6/11/2009 The document 1 was approved on 6/12/2009… I am not paying until I speak to a litigation firm and I’ll wait to see what they say about the matter. I was approved back then and that is what matters the most!…You do not sell someone a house and 3 years later say “oh I am sorry you are denied credit to live here”.

Kaplan University alledged non-disclosure/fraud?

Early in my as degree I won a 1k scholarship "voucher" on account of my gpa, that I was told by my admissions adviser, would drop off my loan at the end of my degree program. I have never seen, read or signed the voucher. I graduated 12/21/10 with my as, 4.0 gpa summa cum laude. Kaplan is now telling me that my voucher has been void because I took off one term due to illness. My 10 week absence was discussed with my academic advise who never mentioned this would invalidate my 1k scholarship voucher. I have appealed this and sent kaplan all the documents they requested, along with a signed physician's note advising them I was under her care at the time of my absence. Kaplan has now agreed to re-instate my voucher, but guess what? Now they cannot find it.
I have been waiting two months to start my bachelor's program. I am now requesting my transcrips so I may attend another school. Kaplan does not practice what they teach! Ethics! Why would you hold up a 4.0 summa student who was willing to give you another 32k for another degree?

Kaplan University stipend disbursement

Kaplan university is not making refunds in a timely manner to students for excess financial aid. Financial aid representives refuse to give out the number for kaplans business office so students can enquire about why their funds have been delayed. I have worked for kaplan in the past and know with certainity that this number exists. There has been some allegations that kaplan retains the money as long as possible in an effort to gain interest for their organization. I know alot of students have this issue as well. Here are some steps that you can take. Hopefully if more of us are proactive in dealing with this matter then kaplan can be held accountable.

Kaplan university takes their time to send you your money all of the time. they post a date on your account then when that date comes they change it. most of the time they wait a week after the date to even update your account. then it takes another week before they actually mail it to you. Kaplan university needs to give you the option to set up direct deposit with them so it does not take forever to get YOUR money. they also need to be more professional and do things on time. if you owed them they would not wait 3 weeks after the due date to receive it so why should we.

Kaplan University Stipends, Instructor compentency and employee ethics

Hi
My name is connie. I still to this day can't believe the reviews/complaints on kaplan fa dept. That say the same thing. Had I known then what I do now I would have gone else where.
Everytime I ask to talk to the fa dept manager or dean I get hung up on or a excuse given. I have been told by numerous employess kaplans holds funds especially my eel. I had to get it because kaplan burned up all my grant money. Both sallie mae and fafsa have said they can't do this and kaplan knows they will get paid so no need to hold it. But they do. And I have even told them they can't. Also, like this stipend for january came in 1/5... Spoke with a employee the 12 and she like the others told me there are 2 type of accounts-one is handled quicker cause it is hassle free, the other, like mine for example has to be manually done/entered and they have up to 14 days to post it. She didn't deny many wait to post it the 14th. She said she would put a work order in to get it going (My internet was shut off... Printer down etc... And I have no other money thus missing classes). The other schools I went to believed it isn't their money-I have to pay it back... Once they get it it is posted then and sent to me. Last one (October) took 30 days to get to me. Found out that kaplan had it on the scheduled day (Oct 13). Also, kaplan employees have told me it isn't just for school use it help with daycare, etc. Whereas others say don't rely on it it is for school... Well duh... How can u go to classes, pay for a sitter etc when the school sits on the funds. And as for the teachers... Bbbbuuuuuwwwwaaahhhh... I have yet to get any help from the 4 I had already. Thus, I did poorly on assignments. Kaplan especially the fa dept deliberately does what they are doing... It is wrong and unfair and someone should legally intervene. Asking for help or a specific someone... Top line is no one available... Or call u back... Never does. (I can keep going)

Here is my response from the Dept of Education/Direct Loans-COD Support. They verify they send funds WHEN Kaplan requests them-other words Kaplan sits on it and does their job when they feel like it:

Dear Connie,

This message is in response to your e-mail regarding your William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan, which may include Direct
Unsubsidized/Direct Subsidized Loans, and/or PLUS Loans.

With the Direct Loan program, the schools create and disburse the loans. They send to us the anticipated loan information (dollar amounts and disbursement dates) and we use that information to create your Disclosure Statement to give you an idea of what and when your school plans to give you as far as loans. When that anticipated disbursement date comes, it is still up to your school to request the funds, and then those funds are made available to your school within a few business days. So if the request isn't made on that day, or a few days before it the funds will not be available around the time of your anticipated disbursement. It only takes a few business days for the funds to become available to the school, so you should verify with your Financial Aid Office that they have made that request already.

If you have any further questions, please call [protected] to speak with a Representative, Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M.-8:00 P.M. (ET).

Dear Ms. Goff

Thank you for contacting the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid Research and Customer Care Center; we appreciate you taking the time to write us.

The Federal Student Aid funds received by a school are held in trust by the school for students and the Department of Education. Your school establishes the anticipated dates of the disbursement to the borrowers, based on the payment periods in the student’s program, it is your schools responsibility to specify to the lender the dates on which students need to receive the loan funds. Have you contacted your school to find out why they are requesting loan funds so late?Your school is also required to disburse a Federal Student Aid credit balance to you within 14 days of the date it was created or within 14 days of the first day of class, and they must notify a you of a loan disbursement within a time frame related to the date of that disbursement.

In terms of early disbursements, the earliest that a school may disburse FSA funds by crediting the student’s account or by paying directly to the student or parent is 10 days before the first day of classes for that payment period. For credit-hour nonterm and clock-hour programs, the earliest a school may disburse FSA funds (other than FWS wages) is the later of 10 days before the first day of classes for that payment period or the date the student completed the previous payment period for which he or she received FSA funds. This limitation is also applicable to Stafford and PLUS disbursements in credit-hour programs with non-standard terms that are not substantially equal in length.

Thank you for contacting the U.S. Department of Education – Research and Customer Care Center. We hope you find this information helpful. If you require any additional information, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to further assist you.

Best,

Kaplan University kaplan university financial aid/business office out of compliance while commiting fraud and misappropriation of funds

Kaplan University a subsidiary of the Washington Post Financial Aid/Business Office out of compliance while commiting fraud and misappropriation of funds

The majority of State Universiies release refunds to their students 2 weeks before classes starts or 2 weeks after school starts. State Universities also disbursement dates on their website validating the dates that refunds will be disbursed to their students. Many private online/community colleges universities are under the assumption that they are not required to follow the state and federal guidelines. I am a graduate student in my 6th term with a 4.0 GPA at Kaplan University. Each term is 10 weeks long; however, Kaplan feels that they do not have to issue stipend checks from Direct Loans until the 8th-10th week of the term. Expense Loans are designed to assist students with living expenses during a designated term. However, at Kaplan loans taken out by students is assisting the university or the Washington Post with their expenses which is fraud and misappropriation of funds.

I agree they keep changing the dates of the checks pushing them further and further out. The checks are to help us with electric, internet and other student needs. It really stinks when they electric company says no we are turning it off, it is not our fault that the checks did not come. Kaplan University is very expensive and the funds we receive after classes are paid for are small and rarely arrive before the 10 week or after.

Kaplan University misleading

I am enrolled at Kaplan University in August of 2010, this was probably one of the biggest mistakes i have ever made! Academically it has met all of my expectations, but When it comes to Finacial Aid, well thats another story. I applied for finacial Aid and to my suprise i qualified but not enough to pay my whole tuition. Well i ended up taking out to loans and I have a remainder left from those loans each term. once i was enrolled i turned in a education expense loan form and was told it would be processed in no more than 72 hours well 2 months went by and i had heard nothting so i called and found out my application had not yet be processed. Well i took it as a oops we missed one and thought nothing of it and teh following day recieved an email stateing the expence check amounts for each term than i recieved a email stating that my check was mailed out on 11-16-10 and that i should expect it in the email normally. patiently i have have waited and still i have yet to receive the check i have been told taht nothing can be done for 30days well guess what my 2nd term check was mailed out on 11-30-10 and you guessed it i have yet to recieve this one as well. As I am writing this complaint i have been on hold for exactly 1 hour and 27min and still have not gotten thourgh to any one. I have left message for the supervisors and sent emails to any one i could think of and still no response from ANYONE! I am not goign to say dont attend Kaplan Univeristy becuase the educational part its self is AWESOME i just advise you not to trust or depend on the finacial Aid department on anything they have lost documents not turn things in and now i have not recieved my education expense when in reality this is my money i am the one that is goignt o have to pay it back why do they have a say in when i will be able to track it!

signed a pissed student!

Hello All, like so many others Kaplan's Universities FA department experience has been a complete frustrating one to say the least. I finished my last class 10-26-10 and have been in dispute with the FA dept since 11-2-10 in trying to get funds owed to me from there Acclerated Scholarship fund that I earned in my 1003B term. However, whenever I call to follow up I am told a variety of misleading or false information such as "a ticket hasn't been posted in order for the funds to get applied to your account". I have spoken with supervisors of the FA dept who have failed to follow through on their commitments of making sure the issue gets resolved. After consulting with two local attorney's I find out that a lot of Kaplan's practices in their FA and Student accounts departments are very illegal. A school is to notify you BEFORE a completion of a term on how much the student owes out of pocket expense. Several terms I was notified after completing a term that I owed money that was not covered by my loans and was locked out of the next term until I paid the full balance. Well that only allows a student 2 weeks to come up with whatever the amount is prior to the next term (as if an adult student doesn't have enough going on in their lives to add the additional last minute stress). Honestly I could write a book on the discrepancies I have been told by admissions, academics, student accounts, and the FA department at Kaplan University. I am currently unable to apply for a job or my masters because I can not get my transcripts or degree.

The edu part is bad to, cause the credit are not right with other school with the same programs, What u would need here for Ba degree, u can get at other school in ### degree and that is not right to charge students for something that the can get in less time and less money. Also some of the teachers are not that great at their jobs.

Kaplan University advisors

I have been going to Kaplan Univerity for a while know and they have added another $864 extra to my college charges. They cant figure out where these charges come from and I had an internal audit done on my account and the next thing I seen was an email kicking me out of school with a 2.9 average. I was placed on academic probation. What a way to screw people over.

Kaplan University money scam

I got screwed over! How come kaplan can charge me for 15 credit hours when in fact I attend less then I would have using a non-accelerated university. A full time student at kaplan attends three classes per week, they are each four hours long and you attend for 10 weeks. When you attend a college at Dmacc you have four class per week, each is three hours long, you attend for a semester so you spend more time in class. Do the math, Kaplan is a BOLE[censored] University. Dmacc Charges 12 credit hours to you at about $110 per credit hours. Total estimated cost for a semester at DMACC: $1, 320
Kaplan Charges you for 15 credit hours at 389 per credit hours
Estamated cost for ten week term at Kaplan: $5, 835
WHAT THE HELL HUH? Kaplan is there for money. plain and simple! They are taking advantage of sudents and taking from the Department of Education. A waste of tax money. and a waste of effort for those who must pay back outragous students loans. $20, 000 for an associates degree, yep thats worth what you gonna be making in the end. Not Really! good luck paying it back. Please do not spend that much money on an associates degree it is not worth it!

Kaplan University financial aid and business office call center representatives

After overpaying for a session 6 months ago, I assumed my money would be available for me to use for a new session. When more promissory notes that didn't make sense started coming my way and the billing screens online started making less and less sense, I contacted student accounts and spoke with James with no last name. James saw that my account was incorrect but couldn't correct it. He couldn't give me to anyone who could. When I asked for his supervisor, he told me they would have to call me in up to 72 hours. The next day, Cecilia called me. She was no more useful than James but she's the supervisor. There is a man behind the curtain called the "business office" who now holds my money but they can't be called. They just process everything. They don't take calls according to Cecilia. This student accounts group as well as the supposed education counselors are a pure call center with no skills or ability to help and won't let you talk to anyone who can help. I would warn everyone that Kaplan University is nothing but a business, you will be educating yourself online and paying them obnoxious amounts of money to do so. They manage the process of education poorly and their business practices are shady at best.

Kaplan University not providing job placement assistance

I am VERY disappointed with the career services department at Kaplan College Vista Campus. I started working with career services in June even before I finished my externship. I graduated with a 4.0 in August. I have deligently called my rep and went in to the office at the campus. I have done mock interviews and updated my resume as I was instructed to do. The problem is that I have been on 4 interviews since June. Kaplan has not provided the assistance that they promised. The entire reason for my enrolling in their school was because they would help me to find a career job. I have repeatedly called my rep just to hear that he doesn't have anything this week and call back on Monday morning. In the middle of October I started working with the Director of The Career Services Department. She has been worse then the rep. I don't get call backs and I asked if she got my message the past 2 days and she said she didn't check her messages yet. She says she will follow-up with the few places she sent my resume to and call me back. She never does. I have to call her just to be told she hasn't heard anything from anybody. The entire process that I have been going through is ridiculous. It makes no sense how they still have commercials on T.V. telling people to enroll when 75% of my graduating class are unemployed. I believe that they lied about their percentage of students who they have assisted and who have actually been hired in their field of study. The network of my classmates that I keep in touch with are all unemployed. I will be contacting their Corporate Office, The Better Business Bureau, and The District Attorney in San Diego. I cannot begin to pay my student loans back next month if I am unemployed. I cannot feel good about my accomplishments since without a job, I basically have nothing to show for my 9 months of schooling.

If you you are one of the fortunate few to have externed at a hiring site, congratulations, you're in the minority. The rest of us are stuck with a costly education that is useless. Places that are hiring in the medical field are not impressed with a Kaplan education and want 1-2 years experience. I wish I had checked on that prior to their empty promises.

New instructors they hired for the pharmacy tech program are not certified. They both have not been to formal tech school. They were only "grandfethered in." And the instructor teaching the pharmacy technician certification course is not even certified herself! What a joke!

The reason I enrolled in the pharmacy tech program was because I met the pharmtech director and he was very knowledgeable and seems to be very enthusiastic. Not only that, based on the students' feedback, the director is actually the reason why the program is thriving. We all love him and his students are really raving about how he inspires and teaches in the classroom. But he left for some reason(s) that Kaplan seems to be flip-flopping. Now, the instructor they replaced him is a big joke. She does not know anything about pahrmacology, pharmacy math, or have no basic teaching skills! We found out that didn't even go to pharmacy school herself. They got another instructor teaching pharmtech certification program and she is not even certified or also did not go to tech school! Since our director left, this program is already a big mess. Most of the students now wants to drop out bec we are not learning anything at all. I am paying $15, 000 to sit in a classroom where my instructor is very sarcastic, and acts like a total gestapo. A totally stark contrast over my former instructor! Now all the students in the white module do not want to take pharmacy anymore. Oh, also, the new extern coordinator does not know where to place the externs! What a joke! When the former director was here, he always places the students and get them hired too! That's why I enrolled in the program! And I hear a lot of complaints about the Career services, they don't do anything to help place graduates. What I know AS A FACT is that ou former program director was the one placing the tech grads to work, not career services. The best thing that ever happened to Kaplan Vista was our former director and now that he's gone, this school has gone down the dumps. Now, everyone here is really stupid! I am now going to be stuck with a $15, 000 studen loan for nothing and I am now more scared than ever to go into my externship coz I don't know anything. All I know about pharmacy was from when I had our director as the instrucor. When he left, all classroom learning stopped. I know it is hard to replace the likes of him, but why replace him with someone so totally way out of his league?! This only shows what Kaplan really is like! 5 negative stars!

The Career Services Department have all been replaced in the last few months, with the exception of the Director. First off, they don't do jack for students. They do all these "menial" tasks of mock interviews, resumes, etc., to make it look like they are doing something for the student graduates. Inr eality, they have no idea who to contact. Also, in football, if the whole team sucks, they don't replace the players. They replace the coach! But why is the career dept. still have their director who is obviously incompetent? Word has it is that she has connections wth the powers that be at Kaplan. Anyways, overall, Kaplan College Visa has really nothing to offer. There was one porgram/course in there that I wanted to transfer to but I wasn't allowed. I wanted to transfer to the pharmacy tech department bec. the director of that program was seriously placing his graduates to work and that was noe even his job. But the registrar wouldn't let me transfer! I know for a fact that almost everyone who enrolls at Kaplan Vista pharmacy tech was bec they know tech graduates who are now working due to the direct intervention of their director. Everybody knows that the director was doing more to place his/her students to work than the Career Services. The state should investigate kaplan Vista. What is the real percentage of graduates are actually DIRECTLY placed by the career services? I know too that of those who may be working after their graduation either found a job themselves without help from Career services or due to their externship coordinators, which I betcha the career services dept. and their incomptent director takes credit for. Shame on you, Kaplan Vista for feeding on student's fear of the bad economy and you promise them placement "assistance" and everything under the sun just so you can enroll them! Schools like this should be investigated.

Kaplan University lack of good education

This school claims that 90% of their students are in their career field within 6 months of graduation. Truth is 90% or more students are not in their chosen career field after spending thousands of dollars and hours of time at this school. The education stinks-you barely learn anything and most instructors will give you an A for a grade if you do your homework and come to class. If this school contacts you-run the other direction! This school guarantees job placement assistance but if you try to utilize it-you're given a run-a-round dance before someone tries to help you. They also do not give you accurate information about the current job markets for the career fields they offer-I did cybercrime but was not told until 6 months after graduation that the only way to get into that field is to be a police officer or in some form of law enforcement-I'm disabled so how can I pass their physicals and do their training programs? If I was told this-I would have chosen another field. Plus-all the jobs require the candidate to have various certificates which the school withholds. Then I find out that because I went there-most companies are over looking my resume because of the poor standing this school has in the professional world.

they DO discriminate against students with disabilities, and when you try to wage a complaint to forge an amicable resolution thats lawful, they manipulate the law to their advantage. the harrisburg pa campus is a joke. they demean students, and provoke those students with mental health disabilities. a teacher told my daughter she couldnt tend to her acute onset diabetic issue in class. and chastised her for it. when i directed this to the president of kaplan, (the director is sherry rosenberg) she became vile and hostile when i asked to speak to here in private - (unreasonable? all personal and medical are protected under privacy laws) and assaulted me this afternoon (simple assault by definition) by slapping a business card to my body. i have NEVER seen such a pathetic circus du jour in my life.

Kaplan University discrination

I am a full-time student at Kaplan University and I have just began to work on my Bacehelors Degree in Criminal Justice. I am a A-B student.I have not worked in 20 years due to being severely Bipolar etc.. I worked really hard to get better, I did what the doctor told me to, took my meds as perscribed, attended counseling for a few years, never missed a session. I took a huge leap and decided to return to school and return to work. I wanted to have a life and take care of myself and my mother. I never denied any of it, in a manner of speaking I felt proud of myself, it has been a very long time since I felt that good.

The school is making every attempt to push me out. They are messing around with my financial aid and denying me money from one of my loans that is rightfully mine. I need that money in order to survive. I have scratched my way through my first two years and that money was a god send and they are denying me the money and have come up with everything in the book not to give me that money. I have been checking everywhere possible looking for that loans and it is like it vanished. The only way I can prove it, the money is on my fasfa and they can not make that go away. I am so discouraged with this they keep lieing to me after they know I verified the information. I feel like I lost everything. Iam 46 years old I took a huge chance and I feel like I had it taken away from me. That extra money would of went for school supplies, paid my gas bill, water bill etc... I am now looking at shut off notices. My last option is to find an attorney and start pusing back. It just really bothers me to work this hard and to loose it all for something I have no control over.

Kaplan University fraud, deception, coercion

The following has been pasted on my Facebook Notes, and myspace blogs. http://www.facebook.com/notes.php?id=100000576063202¬es_tab=app_2347471856#!/note.php?note_id=145049068870499
It is also on myspace, and you can find me there by searching Bobby Seay with the same avatar pic, me standing next to Rodin's The Shade sculpture at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta where I am from. This is a true story with snail and email evidence in plenty to back it up and witnesses also. I need a lawyer or to hook up with a class action suit against Kaplan U. for fraud, deception and coercion.

This is the way this entire debacle went down:

Grand Canyon U. was/is a good school, but right wing evangelicals and a class in Old Testament history got on my nerves, so I decided to call Kaplan U. I was still in my Old Testament history class at the time.

I spoke with a Sr. Academic adivisor at Kaplan. I told him that before I withdrew from GCU I had to make sure I had the same loans to pay for school with Pell Grant money left over or I could not do this. I explained my lack of a job, my lack of sales with my leather work and told him where to view my art gallerys on artbistro.com. I explained how bad the job situation in Dalton was, and told him about my resume and refs and tie and shirt and still could not get a job. I told him I thought Kaplan had a better program.

I was assured that they did, and that my transfer would be no problem.

Things got delayed as transfering from GCU took time.

I finally start classes at Kaplan. I had received an award for 9500 in Fed loans and a 5, 500 Pell Grant. I figured 6, 000 or more would still be available. I was in my third class, second quarter at GCU. Over one-third of that money should be available, and no one told me different.

After a few days of a Communications class, I talked to a financial aide advisor who sent me a financial aide plan to sign. It showed that I only had enough Fed money so that I ended up owing Kaplan $50 for the quarter. I was assured that there was more aide available. I asked why I was not receiving my max loans and Pell grant money, as this was half what I figured I should have left. I got no reply, really. To make it clear, two classes at Kaplan were costing me about 3300, more than GCU but with books included. I should have had around 1200 or more left over in a stipend check. So I thought.

I still do not understand why when you transfer from one school to another the loans are "overlapping", and what happened to the other half of my FEd money I was eligible for?

Kaplan U. offered me a Promissory Note to sign, faxed it to me. It was a zero per cent loan for 1800 dollars or so payable in monthly payments of 350 plus dollars over six months. Miss one payment you get kicked out of school and they keep all your Fed money. I thought about taking it and trying to start some leather/art business with it. REfused it, though, as too risky, and asked over and over and over why I was not getting max FED LOANS and Pell Grant?

I was told by my financial aide officer via email, and I have over a dozen long threads between me and Kaplan saved, that since I was taking 16 credits this term and 10 credits next term there was no more fed money available and I would have to seek alternative (private)

lenders. This got me very confused as I was only taking ten credits, and there were no alternative lenders for me being jobless. Also this person who sent me the mail saying this said he had talked to my father, that I was not available. DAd died in '97.

I continued to ask about max fed loans and why I was not getting what I was eligible for while Kaplan kept sending me monthly bills for 350 dollars or so for the Prommissory Note loan money I never signed for and NEVER HAVE received.

Finally, three weeks or so into class, I am sent a copy of the Promissory Note again, told to print, sign it, fax it back or be blocked from classes. Amy Dinsmore on my Facebook friend's list printed it, I signed it, and she faxed it.

The next day, having thought about this entire thing, I took the copy of the note to David Blackburn, an attorney here in Dalton. He allowed me to pull up the mail threatening to block me from classes if I did not sign this note on his office computer. It looks like coercion to me is what he said, and suggested I go to Legal Aide. I have by now, and they do not take cases like this they say.

I emailed Kaplan later the day after the Note got faxed to them, and demanded they withdraw me from classes, keep not one penny of my Federal money and leave me owing them nothing or face consequences. I demanded they cancel that Note, send me none of the money, which they never have, and withdraw me from classes immediately.

INstead they are trying to bill me for one-third of one class 1675. I still do not have a clear idea of why I was not eligible for max loans, what overlapping loans means, or any of it. One-third of one class is not 1600. They also kept 200 of my Fed money, but canceled and returned the rest.

Kaplan called Greater Works ministry one day while I was there and Jeff Puckett was still running the day shelter. They called Greater Works phone. The only way they knew I was there is because I commented so on myspace and they are/do read it and this I am sure of.

I need a lawyer and will get one as I can. I am going to sue them for not telling me about overlapping loans, that once you are enrolled in a school you are so for a year or three quarters, and all the rest including coercion. YOu cannot threaten someone with blocking them from class if they do not sign and agree to a loan they have no way of repaying. I suppose they thought the homeless bum would take the 1800 and run, leaving them with all my Fed money. NO, not this homeless crazy street character, and I have character, indeed, which is one reason I am so well disliked by so many

Commentary:

Briefly put.

When Sachs-Goldman testified before Congress about all the people they had ruined and scammed they had no apologies, but simply said empathy had no place in business. Neither does honesty and ethics, not with Kaplan, .not with most American corporations. A vote for the radical right this November will mean that such blatant fraud and deception as was done to me and has been done to so many in America by out of control coporates will simply continue.

Regulatory agencys to protect consumers, even under Obama and the dems, are weak and almost powerless, and the right wing has made them so for years now. Kaplan knows well there is almost nothing I can do about any of this. Every email between me and them was forwarded, long threads, to the FSA, FAFSA, and FED Direct loans and some were to the Justice Dept. No one has said one thing back to me about any of it.

The question may be asked, what was their point to any of this? They will never collect a penny from me, for if and when I get a job and could be paying them, I will be hiring a lawyer and suing the hell out of them instead. What is the point of harassing a homeless crazy street character and scamming him so? Am I to pay them in food stamps as I asked them?

The answer is there is no point. NO point to any of it other than insane greed and lack of honesty and ethics to a point that it is absolutely destroying AMerica, the world, and the wicked doing so in the name of "caveat emptor" or any other excuse are absolutely committing suicide for themselves as well. Not just their children but themselves unless they are very much older, say in their late 60s or more. When the crops fail and the fresh water gets critically short, by the end of this decade as things begin to get grim, indeed, what good is 900, 000 dollars of worthless paper you cannot eat or drink going to do anyone. That, as Huffington Post reports today, is what some of the whining Wall Streeters make an hour as they accuse Obama of being a Nazi for trying to put regulations back in place on them to protect consumers, the country, and the world from thier insane greed.

The Huffington Post article I posted is great. The statistics and facts not arguable, as are many statistics and facts by now not arguable, that never were anyway. From global warming to pot laws, to gay rights and many other issues we have been, as a society, stupid beyond belief to the point of blind insanity for a long, long time. We will pay, are paying, and this is just the beginning of the dire consequences, this first, hottest year in history of the decade of disaster.

Kaplan University embezzlement

I'm writing this email as a disappointed and dissatisfied student of Kaplan University. They are holding my funds from me for no reason what so ever. They've also caused a great deal of hardship and distress on me, my unborn child, and family which is affecting me physically and sending me to the ER and Doctor constantly. All the hardship they're causing me is putting me at high risk once again. I've already had 1 miscarriage due to stress and anxiety while attending Kaplan University. I refuse to go through that again because of the burdens that the school is placing upon me. If anything happens to my unborn baby due to all this stress and anxiety that is stemming from Kaplan, I will definitely take some kind of legal action. I also have a child that's 2 year old and he's suffering also because of Kaplan. He needs things and I can't provide for him like I want to because Kaplan is putting me in debt. I've been threatened for an eviction. My power can be turned off any time now, and my phone is suspended. I can be homeless at any time. These are not things you should have to go through or worry about while being pregnant.

I am a non working mother, but whenever I'm enrolled into school I get a check every month from the VA which allows me to pay up necessary bills that are needed to be paid. This is because I am the daughter of a Disabled Veteran. Kaplan has done a terrible job notifying the VA of my enrollments each semester I was enrolled with them. Each time they failed to notify the VA, they caused a delay for me to receive my check and bills to lapse. This causes late fees from every angel and my bank accounts to go in the negative. As of right now, Kaplan owes me money for loans and I have not received anything from them. These are loans that I applied for and was approved for that I have to pay back, I've never received the funds. Kaplan lied to me and said they sent the money back to the lender when in fact they are still holding on to it.

I joined the school thinking I would be treated fairly and sincerely by all staff employees and employers. This was not the case. Just recently my file had been tampered with by an Employee that works in the Orlando Campus Center named Cateria Powell and she works within the Financial Aid Department. This woman put false notes into the system under my account and canceled all my payments that were approved to me and that were suppose to be dispersed to me. I had 3 payment that were suppose to be mailed out to me. One was suppose to be mailed out Aug. 17th, another Aug 20th and another shortly after that. I received a letter in the mail stating that these payments have been mailed out to me which is untrue. Today is Sept. 13th and I've received nothing. For some unknown reason, Cateria Powell canceled my transactions which has stopped me from receiving the funds I was approved for and suppose to receive within that promised time frame. This caused a great amount of debt. I've come to find out that Kaplan isn't truthful about the time frame of when they say they're going to send your funds. What this employee has done with her bad judgment and poor decision making is cause hardship on me and my family and created an even bigger financial struggle then they put us in at first. I blame Kaplan because they hired her. It's obvious that Kaplan isn't good at selecting and training they're employees.

Calling the school is impossible because each employee has there own answer and will never truly help you because the problem never gets solved. They will have you going back and forth, calling from here and there. It's a run around and the job is never done right. There's always excuses and its discouraging. When I keep calling for a status on my case for the corrections that are suppose to be made to my account, the business office tells me that the money had been sent back to the lender when it most certainly has not! This is embezzlement! They lied about the where abouts of the funds and they're keeping the money that is entitled to another person which is me. I hope no one else falls at the hands of Kaplan like i have.

They are holding the money that's due to me within Kaplan and I don't appreciate it because its an uncalled for financial burden I have to carry and its causing hardship and pressure on me, my unborn child and family. Close ones around me have seen the results of how Kaplan has neglected and mistreated me in this matter. No pregnant woman should have to bare un-necessary burdens. It is a fragile time. I just want the funds that are due to me that they are holding on to dispersed out to me. This would be a great relief to me and my family. We've suffered enough, especially the loss I had with my other baby while attending Kaplan and all the problems that came along with this school. Something needs to be done about Kaplan.

I do not have a GED, High School diploma nor an Ability to benefit testing with this school or any other and when I enrolled I told them I did not have a Ged . they told me to go and get it and they'll keep me enrolled. Well I failed the test and they pulled me out of classes but charged me $7, 000.00 for the semester even though I don't have a GED, high School diploma nor an ABT they still charged me through EdFund which has been FIRED from the U.S Dept of Education for trying to sell their company to a higher bidder without permission because they were plummeted in debt. Now, here is the thing in order for me to Say I don't have three of the mentioned above I have to fill out a form (loan forgiveness) in which I did three times and mailed it off three times just in case they say they didn't receive it I am even mailing one this week Certified so someone has to sign for it. Now EdFund is out of business and has to mail all of my file/paperwork to their boss, (U.S dept of education) and that can take up to three months. So when I called EdFund to let them know they have been scammed by Kaplan University they decided to grit their teeth and file an offset with the IRS even though I wasn't even in classes or with the school! It even says on the paperwork of me I was there for no more than two weeks! But they still charged me for something that should never have happened! It was terrible! So now I have to wait for the Dept of education to make a decision and get my paperwork. Does anyone know that it is against Feder law for any school to claim financial aid for any students who do not meet the requirements mentioned above? This school is a scam it needs to be shut down.

Kaplan University poor service, lies and questionable financial aid practices

I have attended Kaplan for almost two years. The first term went great, I guess because I was a new student. After the first term however, things began to go down hill. To this date I have never been able to actually speak with 'my' Financial Aid advisor, instead I have to wait on hold for close to an hour (52 minutes 13 seconds the last time I called) just to speak with a drone who can't answer any questions, has to send an email to someone else, and who will never follow up with you as they promise they will. It took two and a half months to get an answer about a $1000 charge that I supposedly owe the school. Ironically one of the things taught in most of my classes is inter-departmental communication, but when I asked for a conference call between Financial Aid and Student Accounts I was informed that the two departments 'are not allowed' to talk to each other.

All this school is interested in is collecting money and increasing enrollment. They have no real concerns for the student and once you have enrolled the positive, helpful staff you are promised simply disappears.

Kaplan University finacial aid dept

I have had many problems dealing with their finacial aid dept. Every time I turn around they say I am missing docments and get blocked out of my classes after sending documents. I am in my 2010 school year and recently was e-mailed that I was missing 2008 tax documents that I had sent . I had been attending and they should have had that already. They replied to me that" they did not know why it did not show in their files and that these things happen". No, it is just bad business and really unprofessional. I recently was locked out during finals for a paper they said they need that they previously never sent or told me I needed. I would not recommend this school or online courses due solely on their incompetant finacial aid department and services. I am really tired of dealing with their department.

I too have had issues with their financial department missing docs. First let me start by saying that I enrolled because they so much advertised about their portfolio development class and the students being able to use lifetime experience as credits... huge rip off there.
Now, the real complaint I have is in regards to financial aid not processing my documents, (TWICE), and after I decided to withdraw for Kaplan, I had a huge balance due, since my paper work sat on somebody's desk without being processed.
Kaplan University needs to have some type of discipline done, or even a class action law suit. It is not ok for them to keep on misleading people this way. My credit is now showing a unpaid loan from Kaplan, and the finacial aid will not do anything about it.

There's a Kaplan support group on Yahoo http://groups.yahoo.com/group/takenumdown2010 where people are filling out affidavits against the Kaplan for stuff just like what happened to you. You should check it out.
