They are still at it. My Chase Visa unemployment debit card was charged a fee of $19.95 for ID and credit monitoring service that I never ordered. I only authorized a very small amount to try to find someone who turned out to be deceased. This was the last of my small weekly allowance and left me in a bad situation. When I found out it was Intelius that took my money I entered the name in a search engine. I found endless complaints and victims. I called Chase to dispute the charges. The gentleman was very rude and sceptical. He then accused me of not paying attention to what I was purchasing. I then asked the Chase rep why would I pay to protect my identity when I have horrible credit, no money and a criminal record? He then gave a very poor performance pretending he could not hear me and then hung up. I had to again start the process all over only to be told I could not dispute the charges until it is out of the pending state. They said the only way I could stop future withdrawls from Intelius was to cancel my card and get a new one. They stole the last of my money so they could monitor my debit card and invade my privacy. Now I won't be able to get my next payment for a week until my new card arrives. Why can't they be stopped? Corporate greed is destroying this country. They say they comunicate online about billing questions, but you must pick a subject before contacting them. There is no relevant subject to chose and it says if you respond to the wrong topic your email will get no response. I spent a long time on the site and I could not find any way to cancel the false membership only suspend it. There was no email notification of my purchase or confirmation of any such charge. I would never knowingly accept paying for something that is so apparently useless to me. It is like paying an alarm company to protect my cats used liter.

I'm having the exact same problem with Chase. MC-IDPTROTEC8778737157PA PANAMA showed up on my statement. I called Chase and they said they would check out the claim. I got a letter from Chase saying that my claim had been refunded to me and the money deposited back into my account. I assumed everything was okay. Then less than a month later the SAME frikin' charge appears. I go to the branch in person and talk to a person. She tells me to open a new account and file a fraud charge. When I go to do that the person on the phone basically tells me that it was my fault and I probably agreeed to something without reading the terms and conditions, and that I probably would not be refunded anything (including the OVERDRAFT charge of 33.00) She said that I should have closed the account immediatly after the first claim was refunded. How was I supposed to know that Chase would let the SAME CHARGE occur again when nobody bothered to mention it to me the first time!

If you select a promotional price on the Intelius website, you will also receive a free 7 day trial of Identity Protect. After the 7 day trial, it will convert to a regular subscription and bill out at $19.95 monthly.

However, there’s no obligation. If you determine within the 7 day trial that you no longer want Identity Protect, you can cancel your service anytime, online or over the phone with a customer support representative.

Please call 888-445-2727 Monday – Friday 4:30am – 9:00pm PST. We will be more than happy to assist you with your account.

I'm sorry, Intelius Customer Support. You may claim legitimacy on the promotion price, but it's not obvious to users of your website. My husband fell for this scam just basically because he wasn't paying attention as he clicked through your website trying to do a person search for a friend.

Who would pay for $10.85 promotional price for locating a friend (vs. $14 regular price), in exchange for a $19.95 per month charge for ID protection? This is a scam and a rip-off.
