I paid somewhere around $4.95 for a reverse look up on one occasion. I immediately cancelled the service after and was charged $21.67 on my last credit card statement. When I called Intelius to look into this, they said their hours started at 5:00 A.M., but no one responded. I am very frustrated.

I was charged $19.95 by Intelius SB on my credit card. I have never authorized this charge. The phone number [protected] WA is disconnected. These people are crooks. Always verify your statement carefully.

The company charged my credit card without any service required by me. It is commercial crime, some US authority should take action against this company as it does affect the reputation of USA business trading

those looks like you selected a promotional price that got you subscribed to a membership. most likely you also have a .99 cents. even better, read the emails you've been getting from them.

I looked up an address & phone # on behalf of a friend to locate his grandson in Alaska. I was charged for that and now I am getting charged every month $19.95 for nothing. I did not sign up for life. I only asked for one address/tel#. How do I get this to stop?

I requested that Intelius do a (1)one time only search for a relative, for whatever the service charge was at the time, and now they keep billing twice a month for a service I'm not even utilizing, I would like for these surcharge fees to cease, and for the funds that were/are being taken after that formal initial request to be immediately reimbursed to my account.

I thought I got scammed to but whenI called my bank they told me there was nothing they can do about cuz it does tell you that once you do the one time fee they automaticlly sign you up for the 7 day free trail and to cancel before then or they will charge you the 19.95 a month. SO ALWAYS READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU GIVE OUT YOUR CREDIT/DEBIT INFORMATION! This is what it says before you hit the continue button. Read Below!

Offer and Continuous Renewal Details:
By clicking the "Continue" button you will activate your trial membership and get access to the great benefits that Identity Protect has to offer. The membership fee of $19.95 plus tax where applicable per month, will be charged/debited by Intelius.com to the credit/debit card you enter today after your 7-day trial and then automatically charged/debited each month at the then-current monthly membership fee so long as you remain a member. If you wish to cancel during your 7-day trial, you can either cancel by calling us at [protected] or visiting the “MyIntelius” section of the Intelius.com website. Within the first 7 days - you will have paid nothing and owe nothing. After the 7-day trial you may also cancel your membership at any time by calling us or by visiting the website. Either way, if you cancel you will not be charged for future monthly fees. If you use a debit card today and you do not cancel within 7 days, beginning on or after 7 days from now, your monthly membership fee for Identity Protect will be automatically debited each month on or about the same date from the checking account associated with your debit card so long as you remain a member. If you use a credit card, it will be charged similarly each month. Identity monitoring begins the Sunday following your enrollment. Therefore, in some cases, identity monitoring will not be a part of your free trial. Intelius and its benefit providers are not credit repair service providers and do not receive fees for such services, nor are they credit clinics, credit repair or credit services organizations or businesses, as defined by federal and state law.

Check to also make sure they didn't give your bank card number and information to other websites that will start charging monthly fees and even follow your account if you cancel the card and get a new one. They will say you clicked on and signed up for these during the payment process and gave permission for them to have access to your account in this way but when you ask them to send evidence that you did this you get NOTHING from them! Check you statements for unknown or familiar charges from websites. Make sure you contact your bank right away!

Intelius be aware

I searched a phone number on google and saw a link to this company. I received a guarantee that I would be given the contact information of a person who called me. I would pay 95 cents for a trial and then I would get the information. after paying for the trial I was given information that was not at all helpful. I wasn't even given a name even though I was promised to be given a correct name.
They said satisfaction was guaranteed so I contacted them to try to cancel my order and my membership. iwas told that I could get intelius credit but not a refund which annoyed me but it was just 95 cents so oh well. however 7 days later I was charged $19.95 for a membership even though I had already contacted intelius trying to cancel my order before the 7 days were up. I ended up paying $21 for nothing...

The fact that your office closed out my complaint is tantamount to the police telling a stop sign violator that they dropped charges since driver eventually did stop later that week.

Can't the state of Washington realize that due to the sheer numbers of consumer complaints against Intelius that hundreds of victims can't all be accused of not being bright enough to click the proper button for the .95 one time special look-up and not "a club membership" for $19.95?

I now consider the office of the Attorney Generals office complicit in the fraudulent practices commonplace to Intelius day to day business. I am also copy and pasteing this correspondence to the many blogs Googled as "Intelius Scam"

Your State legislative branch is corrupt due to non-enforcement of Internet trade practices.

RE: Larry Ross
File #: 408470 Complaint
Hello KELLY OSHIRO:
Intelius customers are presented with a two tier pricing structure when purchasing reports on the Intelius website. They have the option of paying the full price, or a discounted promotional price which includes a 7 day trial in the Identity Protect subscription offered through Intelius. When a customer selects the promotional price, they are redirected to a full page display that describes in detail the benefits of the subscription and the terms and conditions of the offer. By choosing to proceed with the purchase at the promotional price, the customer agrees to the terms and conditions of the promotional offer.
In this case, Mr. Ross accepted the promotional offer and signed up for the Intelius Identity Protect membership.
As requested, Mr. Ross’ Identity Protect membership was canceled on 05/08/2012 within the 7 day trial. The pending transaction of $19.95 was canceled and should be available within 3-5 business days.
We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience.
Regards,
Shane Stendell

I have had the same thing happen to me. I have life-lock! Why would i even sign up for a 7 day trial? Since i didn't know i was getting this service (which i have been paying for for almost a year), I can't cancel it online (because I don't know where to go). I have been on hold for 20 minutes so far. OK, they canceled it. But it's still horrible that they don't refund you your money, considering that I NEVER wanted this service in the first place! This company has to scam people to make money, so don't trust them to protect your identity. LifeLock rocks!

I recently saw a monthly charge from this company for $19.95. I went through my credit card statements and found they've been charging me for 7 months for a single person search I did in December 2010. I contacted [protected] (option 1). I expressed my complaint and told them I wanted it stopped and I would be pursuing them for a full refund via my credit card company. A supervisor was contacted and I was told I would receive A FULL REFUND. We'll see if this comes to pass. I see there are thousands of complaints on this. I suggest you ring this number, be calm and they might do for you what they've said they'll do for me.

I have had to close me account as the only way to stop the charges...this company is a rip off.

I used it once to look up an address for my security clearance in May and have been charged $19.95 for every two weeks...By the time I contacted to company I had already given them (Because I didn't read the fine print) over $200! I thought it was over after they said me account had be canceled, but no I still got charged. I eventually closed my bank account because the bank refused to stop the payments or dispute the charges. The sad thing is it is all legal I bet. Because when you “Agree to the Terms and conditions” you have made a contract and unless you read the entire thing you could be agreeing to anything, like being charged fir a service that equals over $500 a year.

I have been billed $19.95 per month by this company since June 2011. I called and canceled this morning and was told that I should have seen the small type under the one time phone number search for $0.99. Does anyone know where I can file an official complaint? I'd like to see them modify their website and at the very least increase the size of the font that indicates a membership. Who on earth would pay $19.95 per month for a telephone directory? They got me for 6 months and will not refund the money!

Intelius fraud

Intelius has charged a $19.95 and $49.95 transaction fee to my Credit Card without my authorization. Intelius is a scam and fraud. Intelius is tricking Consumers with a .99 cent special sales promotions to get consumers Credit Card information and then charges the Credit Card with a $19.95 and $49.95 service fee that the consumer did not request or authorize. Just like all other people here, they sneak a disclaimer by somewhere, that says you agree to a re-occuring charge. They hide it somewhere after you submit your card information. The fact that they send you a confirmation that you signed up for a service well after they have taken another another payment from your card only adds to the scammishness of it all. AVOID! SCAM!

I did a search for my own information using ussearch.com, because I wanted to see what people could find out about me. I agreed to pay approximately $1.99 (or less that $3). I never received any information from ussearch. Today, I found two charges on my debit card for $19.95 from INO*USSEARCH.COM/SB [protected] WA . I did not sign up for any membership from ussearch. The site uses deceptive practices, and is a fraudlent business. I will be contacting intellius tomorrow, request a total refund, and considering taking action by reporting to the FBI, the Better Business Bereau, the Conumer protection agency, adding myself to the class action lawsuit against intellius. Theives and liars need to be dealt with using force.

Intelius false/innacurate information

Intelius and US Search are one in the same company. Do not be fooled by either as their research on people's background and other provided information is bogus. Their research reports are very inaccurate and their data base provides false reports on people. How they received an A+ from the BBB I will never know. They do not Guarentee their product, they do not provide accurate information and they charge your credit card with unauthorized charges. No not use either one of these sites for your research.

Intelius inaccurate / old information

Paid over $100 in Sept. 2011 for what they advertised as current information for a background check on an individual & her husband. What I got was at least 2-year old or more information that was very outdated and did not even show the individual's criminal past that was in 2006/2007. I found more current information as well as her criminal history by researching online myself - for free! I then called Intellius to inquire about getting some if not all of my money back, but they refused. I do not recommend paying this company for any people search or background information, especially when you can use Google and just find it yourself. They will not do refunds - so be wary and do not be tempted by their advertising of providing 'current' information. It is simply not true.

Intelius refusal to remove information

I entered my personal information including credit card number and address on the Intelius website thinking I was getting a year's subscription. I quickly realized this was not the case. I tried to remove my information but the site would not let me do that. I called the company and was told "it is our policy to retain all information entered on our site indefinitely". I made no purchases and the whole time elapsed was only an hour. I asked for a supervisor and was given a representative with a very adolescent presentation who hung up on me when I kept asking for her supervisor. Then I was blocked from going back to the site to try again to remove my personal information. It is very unnerving to know that this company which deals in providing personal information for a fee to anyone who asks, has collected and intends to distribute this personal information and intends to keep on file my credit information without my agreement and in spite of my repeated requests not to do this. I changed my credit card number immediately but there remains the feeling that I have been the victim of a virtual mugging.
I will make formal complaints to the BBB and any other relevant agency.

Intelius confidential information

I noticed on the web that age and places of residence was freely publicly displayed. I would would like it removed from the web as it is confidential information with a privacy act. I have been stalked and harassed and do not appreciate this. I have consulted with my cousin who is part of the police force and he mentioned that this type of information is confidential and should not be freely publicly displayed and it normally is accessible on the web for a nominal fee. Please remove age and places of residence from the web.

Intelius has been under suspicion for fraudulent practices for several years, and continues to be. If you need to remove your personal information from the Intelius website, do NOT submit a copy of your driver's license to Intelius, even if your picture is blocked out. They will use your driver's license information and to either post it on another of their internet sites or sell it to another internet marketing company. Contact the State of Washington Attorney General and file a complaint: 206.464.6684. Additionally, at this link, you will find CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT information posted by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General against Intelius. http://atg.wa.gov/searchresults.aspx?qs=intelius

Their claim that your information is public record is misleading. Although information concerning addresses, and nearest relatives is public record, under normal circumstances it would take a trip to a local county clerk office to pull the records. Thus, the identity of the person inquiring would be disclosed to the city clerk or employee. Intelius, on the other hand, is making records easily accessible without accountability from inquirers. This has led to the endangerment of the safety of numerous individuals. File a complaint with the Attorney General of Washington State suggesting a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.

Intelius rip off

I wasa looking for a relative and paid for one month. the report had five-yearold records, which was no help. thewn Intellus billed me four month in a row for services i did not use or want. It's a rip off!when I tried to contact them they were not responsive and it took two more months to try and get the billing stopped. I was tricked into a membership when their advertisement stated I could pay for just one report. The information was not compleat and to get more info I was asked to pay $49.00 more.

Intellius would not write a letter to my bank in order for me to get reverse bank charges a total of 8 removed which zapped my payroll check. I tried to explain that the customer service rep said that she would remove a request but then did not. This is when the domino effect started at my bank. They are a fraudulent company. They are a web scam and have many umbrellas companies under them.

Intelius unauthorized charge

I have been receiving charges of $19.95 from this company every month. I do not know who or what this company is other than it is listed in my credit card statement as computer related. I have contacted my credit card company to try and block these charges going forward. I have been researching this charge online and it appears that many people have been scammed by this company.

What a nice and friendly response jbfirbird!
I did google this information but it does not tell me exactly what the charge is for. I have never purchased any kind of ID protection or tried to lookup information on anyone else which is supposedly what this company offers. I have read some other complaints on google regarding this company and it appears that other people have not used their service. Some people said they have used one or more of their services but never authorized ongoing monthly payments. I have tried to contact the company via their phone number and went through circular voice prompt hell and then was put on hold forever without ever reaching a representative. So for the time being, I have entered a dispute with my bank and all future charges will be blocked.

I called Customer service to cancel then subscription and the immediately refunded me me money without me even having to ask. I would not agree that this is fraudulent. I think it is more so people don't read what they sign up for. In this case it only cost .99 but it also subscribes you for a monthly service. Just call Customer Service and cancel just like the rep said and they will be more than willing to cancel the service and refund you your money.

every product on that page is discounted if you want to try their Identity protections. You do need to cancel within 7 days. correct me if i'm wrong:
* It says $.99 with IDP when you are adding it to the cart
* You go through a second page confirming that you want the IDP with watever you are purchasing
* You get an email confirming your subscription
* You get 7 days free to cancel before you see a charge

Seriously?

I just figured out where they got me. I did a reverse caller ID through them, for $.99 (which incidentally was a waste of $.99 because it game me no information). Then a month later I noticed the $19.95 a month charge. After 2 months of seeing this charge I finally looked it up and apparently they provided me with their free membership for looking up that number. That free membership wore out 7 days later and that is when they started charging me. A total scam. I am calling Visa in the morning to see about reversing the charges.

I noticed that an Intelius Customer Support responded to this blog. If you are reading this Mr. Support man. I would really like all my money back that was stolen from me. If your position is that you did not steal the money than respond to this post. If you do not respond to this posting I can go on the presume that you agree with me and that you are happy stealing money from people.

To others needing to cancel their subscription, you will need to know your user name and password and their cancel subscription button is almost cryptically located on their web site to make it as difficult as possible to cancel your service, but if you look at their FAQ you will find a question regarding cancelling your service and following their unclear instructions you may find the right page after 15 minutes of trying to follow their instructions.

I used the service once and they began charging $19.95 to my account. I called and they claim that I authorized the charge to my account with multiple screens, which I NEVER DID. The initial support person was a joke, and the supervisor was not much better. This is a fraudulent practice if I have ever seen one. I love how Intelius customer support is making comments on this thread...they must be worried about something.

Intelius cancellation of free trial

I have been trying to cancel with intelius since last friday 4/22/11 and have been unable to do so. They are telling me in order to cancel I need to pay a fee of $49.95 which is absurd! You should not have to pay to have a trial period cancelled. they are refusing to to put my funds back on my debit card. I want them to return my money back on my greendot mastercard immediately without me having to pay a uncalled for cancellation fee. I will be calling the better business bureau on this company if my funds are not returned to me by thursday 4/28/11. I need someone to help me retrieve my funds asap. Thank you for any help anyone can give me.

Intelius has told me that even though I had a 7 day trial period I am not entitled to any monies back. I feel that this company is very deceiving to anyone that tries their trial period and I would not recommend anyone to subscribe to their services. I feel very strongley to this.

I have not seen anything recent about Intelius..i.e...2012. But It is not likely that such a scam artist would change their spots. I signed up for a 95 cent 7 day trial, and then thought better of it. It was only when I tried to cancel that I ran across all of the horrific accounts of people being railroaded and robbed! If they do not cancel my account, I will devote the rest of my life harassing them to do so any way I can...Look out Public Media!

Intelius unauthorized charges

I authorized a one-time fee for services I requested from this company on April 11, 2011. That same day my bank statement showed additional charges that I did not authorize. I called this company and was told that the unauthorized amount would be taken off my statement within 24 hours. Today, April 20, 2011, 7 days later, the unauthorized amount had been posted to my bank acount. I contacted my bank who stopped payment on this unauthorized change. I have the conversation between the Int Intelius representative and myself recorded with him giving me the confirmation numbers. This company is one of the biggest SCAMS I have ever known. This company SUCKS!

Intelius they got my money, but I will tell everybody about the ripoff

I went to yellow pages to lookup my brother. It said to go to YP.com and I did so. I filled out this form and it said it would cost me a total of $6.90 so I found my brother and his familly but they would not give me the phone number and they had it. If I pay more money I could get the phone number and I got so mad I said forget it. I will try to find another way to call my brother. I found out that one of my brothers had cancer and I wanted to tell my other brother which I have not seen in some time, but I hit the wall. Well, they got my money, but I will tell everybody about the ripoff.

Someone has tampered with my personal information and Intellius has me related to the wrong people, living in the wrong city, and I even have a new alias complete with new middle and last name - that I did not create. Nothing I can do about it, but whomever is tampering with my personal information sure can have fun.

I tried numerous times to submit my credit information for an e-mail address search
at the discounted price of $1.95. Each time, I tried to submit the form
my attempt was unsuccessful. The form reappeared with a box highlighted in red, either
my credit card number or my password. So, I changed to a different credit card and to
a different password. Again, either the password or the credit card number was unacceptable.

Not only is there billing a scam but the information they provide is out-of-date and incorrect. I had a run in with them over listing outdated and incorrect information concerning my address and telephone number. I notified them of their errors and they rudely replied back and in not so many words told me that I was the one who was wrong. To me, they seem only to care about selling their service and have no concern over the accuracy or quality of the information they sell. They need shut down.

Sorry to hear about your rip off with Intelius. I had a similar situation a few years ago with them. It's like so many other sites that require credit/debit card info in order to register. In the end, it's all about money, not service. Since then, I use payment methods like Western Union that can't be traced to my credit card or bank accounts. A bit pricey but saves me money in the end because I wont get unauthorized charges. If a site does not accept that payment method, I move on.
