On or about the 8th day of April 2009 I contracted with Facilities Services of Grafton Ontario to replace the shingles on the south side of my barn roof with IKO Marathon Dual Black shingles - 25 year warranty. Early in the summer of 2013 I noticed that the shingles had deteriorated to the point of being useless. On or about the 13th of June 2013 I filed a claim with IKO [protected]) and provided them with pictures of the roof, samples of the deteriorated shingles and invoices for the work and materials as requested. I also provided them with the invoice of my contractor and the invoice of their supplier Castle Building Centre in Cobourg Ontario clearly stating the details of the shingles supplied. I also obtained letters from both the contractor and the said Castle Building Centre verifying the details of the product and the fact that the sample deteriorated shingles provided to IKO were removed from the roof in question. IKO denied the claim stating that although they acknowledge that the shingles were manufactured by them, the sample deteriorated shingles provided to them were not the shingles indicated on the Castle invoice provided. It appears to me that IKO has used this pretense to avoid fulfilling their obligations under their 'Iron Clad' 5 year labour and materials warranty.
Both Facility Services and Castle Building Centre have submitted letters to me (which are available for viewing) which clearly indicate that the shingles supplied were installed over the entire area as specified on their respective invoices. If the shingles presented as samples to IKO were not the shingles specified on the invoices, then it was the fault of IKO for mislabeling the packages which were all clearly labeled as per the invoice of Castle Building Centre previously submitted. It is clear that IKO has no intention of honouring its so called 'Iron Clad Warranty' and has used this as a pretext for failing to honour that warranty. In any case, IKO has acknowledged that the product presented to them was manufactured by IKO but still refuses to provide any relief under their warranty. I am deeply disappointed with their attitude - as a Senior Citizen on a fixed income this has left me with the burden of replacing the roof after only four years. I expected more from IKO. I complained to the Better Business Bureau to no avail.
