Hughes service is a joke!

I have been with HughesNet when it was called direcpc and all you got was the download side, no upload. Since then the service has went down hill fast. FAP use to last only a few hours and now it last for 24hrs. (what a joke) I live in a rural area and my only isp other than phoneline is Hughes. I am thinking about going back to phoneline and just rent DVD's and buy music CDs If anyone knows of a better isp please email me. Good luck everyone.

Yes, Hughes is a joke. I have the pro package, which is supposed to be 2-3MB / sec. But I get about 80kbps during the day, and 1200kbps late at night. They told me there was nothing they could do, it's just too many users on each satellite. Slower than dial-up 95% of the time. Upload is never higher than 30kbps. Do not believe the ads, they are outright lying about the "fast" speed. IT IS NOT BROADBAND.

Hughes not worth the money!

I pay $60 a month for SLOW internet service. Also not ALLOWED to do downloads or Hughes Net WILL shut your internet service OFF for 24 hrs. I can pay $25 a month 4 cable internet which is 100 TIMES FASTER. We paid $600 for the equipment that IS faulty. The CUSTOMER SERVICE hardly speaks English & does not give HELP at all! If you sign up with Hughes Net your are waisting thousands of dollars and SLOW internet service with very limited capabilities! Don't buy into Hughes Net. Its a waist of TIME & MONEY!

Hughes service, speed, reliability

I have had Hughes (Direcway) for several years. I also am tired of calling for service and having to hang up on the average of 4 times before and IF I get a person I can understand (yea for out sourcing). I call for service someone comes out my signal strenght is 80 again for a few months then it drops to 55-60. They never support the antenna securely or a part goes bad. This was ok until my warranty ran out. GOD I HATE THIS BUSINESS...

Phone companies won't run DSL into remote areas because god forbide they would lose a little money and the CEO could not buy another toy. Our politicans could care less, hell they stopped caring about Americans years ago.

This can all be stopped...simply STOP STOP STOP STOP VOTING FOR THESE CROOKS WHO LIE TO US ALL THE TIME. Want to stop outsourcing, amnesty, absurb profits by oil companies, get out of Iraq, stop these rip offs by big business...THEN DO NOT VOTE FOR EITHER A REPUBLICAN OR A DEMOCRAT...SENT A MESSAGE AND VOTE THIRD PARTY...WE CAN DO BETTER NO MATTER WHO WE ELECT. If either current party gets in then it serves us right and all this will just continue on...Personally I beleive all big business that affects the populaton as a whole such as the mail, gas, cable, tv, internet especially , etc should be regulated by an honest government...Remember when gas was cheap - regulated, Remember when phone was cheap - regulated, etc, etc, etc...Good Luck to Us All

New hughes.net customer; they are the same same same as all the other wireless radio tower I've had. There profiteering desires aim for the useer to call them always and often at technical support for prices that are deficient paying Hughes because of a chronic long term to be economic failure in our country. They have not planned on the CUSTOMER service, at all.Wouldn't recommend them over any other ignorant masked wireless service, they offer no more.Satellite has been not a 'trigger word', neither for along time and won't be for a longer time.

No matter what, you will never be able to play Xbox Live or PSN with Hughes.Net or any other kind of satelite internet. It doesnt matter if you have the platinum package or what ever the high grade package is because that just adds to your total number of packets(the total amount of data you can use). It still has to travel to that satelite up in space at the same speed as it would the low end package deal. But yes, I have Hughes.Net, and I'm satisfied by their service. You can download at a pretty fast rate( I live on a 1000 cow dairy in the middle of nowhere so that is my reason for saying its fast)

For the love of God people, if you need internet service go with any other company than Hughes net. They price rape you from the start, charge hidden fees in installation, such as a post when you want it mounted on the ground ($125.00!) Expect the bill to be twice as expensive as cable; it's just a joke. Every single person you talk to gives you different information if you can understand them at all. I have yet to get a person that can speak fluent english let alone understand it! Expect to repeat yourself at least ten times. Also expect to find out three months in that you are locked into a two year contract, and that the "unlimited access" really means that you have a daily cap on just how much info you're allowed to download! If you go over your so-called fair access limit for the day, which is a fun filled lagging 200 megs, just shut the computer off because it's worse than dial up. This company needs to be reported by every person that has this service to the Better Business Bureau for false advertisment, and all around poor service. This is not high-speed internet! I would not recomend this service to my worst enemy.

THEY SUCK! I average about 30 minutes of usage per week. I pay 59.99 each month. I paid $900.00 for the installation in 2006. And they say it is because I have extended my usage? Sorry but what usage? I cannot even access the internet with Hughes 99 percent of the time. They told me by leaving my computer on and if it does automatic updates that that applies for usage. WTF? WORSE YET, I call customers service and get people who cannot speak English and they end up hanging up on me!

HORRIBLE SERVICE is an UNDERSTATEMENT!

thats satellite for you (which only exists for people who dont have proper infastructure in their area and and stuck with dialup)

better than wildblue though- they fap you for a month once you go over. not a single sat internet provider that doesnt pull this stuff-they launch a satellite able to handle so much and only so much and then over sell it by 10-20 times..that is when this crap goes into effect. satellite will lag naturally (given the distance not a company rip off) so even if you didnthave the limit it sucks for real time apps like online gaming/voice/cams/etc..

Now I understand all that and make due best I can with the limit by using a download manager timed to start at 3-6 in the morning (2-5 central) as that time is unlimited.

These are the things they do that gives me a stab stab complex though

-When you repeatedly use a source or get about 2/3 your daily limit they cut the speed BIG TIME (non fapped but you still can- which means lots of broken/interupted downloads)

-They do not honestly mention a recovery rate or provide you with any information about how much you have left/how long before back at full speed.

-They short you on usage.

I am stuck with them and wish they would offer an unlimited usage package or something because paying this amount to be unlimited I would rather pay double and not have to do all this crap.

hughesnet does suck real bad, i mean you lag so bad on every game its not even funny. I have an xbox360 and i live in the country and i love playing videogames. Its sad when i have to drive 30mins into town to go play online at my brother house who has roadrunner. Hughesnet sucks and ther damn commericals are straight ###. "Highspeed Internet Unbounded" ###. For everybody considering to get hughesnet dont trust me. Just wait tell dsl is availbe or move closer to town or in it so u kan get dsl. Cause the internet sucks. and ###ing first of the bat they shouldnt be giving us a bandwith limit like where a damn child or something. We should be able to download as much as we wont wen eva i mean we are already paying you an as of money just to keep u runing ###ing $60 a month for ###. So everybody if you love fast internet like i do or love playing games online wid out lag so u can get the full experince wait or move into town. TRUST ME YOU DONT WANT THAT ###!

Finally I find people who share my pain. I live in an area where nothing but Hughes Net works and I love Xbox 360 and playing online. It sucks so bad, there is an automatic 5 second lag on all of my games when I play online. Hughes Net needs to figure something out to help out the online gaming community, whether you play MMOs on your computer or play Xbox live like me or any other online gaming. So keep fighting and I hope there is a change soon.

Hughes better business bureau should investigate them

Hughesnet sucks, there is no other way to put it. Their FAP program was news to me and my family. Never was told about it during all of the phone calls prior to sign up. 200mb a day, after that dial up looks fast. It was in the disclaimer. If anyone ever asks me about it I tell them to run and run fast as far away as possible. If you ever have to call customer service I hope you can understand foreign languages. Always ask for advanced tech support. At least they are located in the USA and speak english. I am done ASAP. In 11 months of service I have never reached to promised speeds, not even close. The Better Business Bureau should investigate them. A class action lawsuit would be better, false claims made on TV.

Hughes not giving service promised

I'm no longer receiving high speed service or e-mail, they still expect me to keep up my end of the contract of $59 a month even though I no longer receive service. Is this a scam? It seems to be ocurring to many users in my area.

They are scamming so many people with false advertisement, and misleading you into signing a contract with them after they have you installed. The service does not work right, and they want to charge more if you cancel. Very bad service

I have Hughes Net at a business. My installer came and installed my modem. He didn't even attach enough wire to set it down table height and my wire is in the middle of my wall instead of by a door or somewhere less noticeable. My internet is used maybe an hour a month-anyway the modem didn't work within a short period of time. I had to return it. Last week I had a rental in my building whom I had assured that I had internet. When he tried to use it, it wasn't working. He knows a lot about computers so he and his friends thought they could make it work. WRONG! I might mention this was the groom on his wedding day setting up for his reception. We call Hughes! His friend was on the phone maybe being put on hold 40 out of 45 minutes---no help! So then they tell him that that there is a problem with the billing and he gives the phone to me. They had just taken a payment from me on May the 29th by their records. They had terminated my service? I'm in a quandry about what has happened, and they charged me $365.00. The people couldn't speak English or understand it well at all. I paid the money though I didn't want to because I had promised that I had internet and had to deliver. I have NEVER had such bad service or as an un pleasent experience. I have been on the phone with them over one hour and 40 minutes today still haven't resolved it. I have been put on hold, transferred, and the call dropped all this time . I have also given the same information at least six times to people in India and the Phillipenes. I now have someone working on it and have left a message on the internet to their company and they are suppose to be working on it. At this time they have been taking my payments and also terminated my service without my permission. THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!

I am going thru the same situations as all the other unfortunate people are. Got Hughes Net because of where I live. Was not informed that you were under Fair Access Policy and when you have used your little bit of download time, your service comes to a halt and you can't access e-mail or even do any searches. Of course when I called, talking to someone from India was fun. Do I even understand what he is saying? NO..I'm no computer geek and certainly do not understand computer lingo. BUT, I do know that Hughes Net is not cheap by any means and when I called to find out how to cancel my service, I was told I had 6 more months on my contract and would be charged $400.00 for early termination fee. What a rip-off! Would not by any means recommend their services to anyone. This has truly been a nightmare from which I don't see awakening from..

I have just received an 'unsubscription success notice' from Hughes, as I got truly fed up with hours spent getting service trough taking to people in India who seem to believe they are speaking English. However, through the mail I received a notice from a collection agency RE HUGHES NETWORK SYSTEMS INC claiming that I owe them $278.71.I Emailed Hughes, point out that they had never sent me such a bill and that my unsubscribe date was just beyond the 24 months of the modem upgrade contract. So far no reply from Hughes and I do not look forward to more dealings with their telephone roulette systems. Concerning my internet connection I'm fortunate that I now have a line of sight connection to a tower through "Unwired West" a local provider near Eugene, OR. Tom Sharples, tdess@aol.com

I signed up for hughes service after they promised me thar it would work with voip, which it does not run fast enough to susport.this discussion wsa recorded by thier sales dept, who later told me that it would not support voip, after i complained about
they or charging me for the install fee, and i have to ship back the hard ware to them .
I am turning the complaint over to the Attormey General Of Ms., and am going to start a class action suit against Huges for false advertizing over the tele phone.if you want to join in email me at frankwp 33@aol.com .wish me luck there is a rumor that huges is boycotting Glen Beck !

I also was a victim of Hughes Net. I have never in my life been subjected to a more Mickey Mouse outfit than they are. You are charged $75.00 a month for nothing. You can not download a program as you will exceed your Fair Policy Act, which they do not inform you of. I wish I had been able to see these complaints before they suckered me in. Is there anyway to get out of the contract without going bankrupt?

We were one of the first idiots to sign up with Hughesnet paying $1500 over two years, back when you had to pay for the dish and an extra $125 for installation! Compared to dial up we thought it was great and had no problems, I even worked with a VPN on it. Slow albeit but it worked. Then last year we upgraded the moden and since then we have been unable to download any files as all are being truncated and therefore come across as 'corrupt'. We got a new computer and have not been able to do any downloads including updates since we got it. We have just found out that it is Hughesnet that is causing this.
If you desparately need to get away from dial up and have not other options, then you do not have much choice but to get satellite, which i still can't believe in a country where technology is king! This is an expensive option, but one we decided was worth it at the time as i wanted to have the ability to work from home a little. Now we would do anything to find another service. You cannot watch movies, consider using VOIP or any other services that would make communications cheaper and easier to use. Satellite is very limiting and it is as fast as the ads make it out. We were unaware the so called Fair Access Policy, which is really ridiculous. Customer services is not a known feature at Hughesnet and you do for the most end up talking to India or Pakistan, not that up on the accents. They also are not very knowlegable.
So, do not buy unless you really have no other choice!

When I first got Hughesnet as they advertise being the best service better than DSL - I did not know that my son was not going to be able to play with his X-BOX LIVE - me as a mother of course its extremely important to make my son happy - Hughesnet NEVER advised of this before signing the contract - I am in the professional plan which is $69.99 plus I was just aware that they also charge an additional $30.00 a month just to have the modem - $100.00 to have this horrible internet service which slows down every other day because someone gets online often - this is not counting that you can't play any online game - PLEASE DO NOT GET HUGHESNET IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE LIED TO LIKE I WAS...I DON'T RECOMMEND THEIR SERVICE AND THEY ARE NOT BETTER THAN DSL

I am not happy with Hughes. Every time I call, I can't get anyone I can understand. I have slow days more than fast days. In the beginning, we had trouble. The first call to find out if I wanted it, the girl give me a quote as low as twelve dollars. I hung up and called again within the next minute, and got another guy who said he would give me a deal and take off a hundred dollars installation fee. Then I hung up again just to see what the next quote was and this guy said ninety-nine dollars. That's it and asked for my social and credit card number, I told him I didn't want to give out over phone. But I wanted the internet. So I did anyways and ask how much I was going to be charged, and he said just ninety-nine dollars. The next day, I check my bank account, and they had charged me $181.32 and they never told me that quote. I never give them permisson to deduct that amount out of my account. I called and was sent to, (I am NOT exagerating)8 different telephone numbers before I got to the last one, they sent me to the person I talk to first! This is the worst service I have ever received, and not honest about much of anything. I also was told that If I send it back, I would not be refunded the $99 dollars, and that the installer was suppose to tell me that! On top of that, the installer was late and in a hurry to go referee a ballgame! I keep asking myself, WHY?WHY?WHY? didn't I see the signs and why didn't I know about this page?! GOODLUCK ON THE RIGHT DECISION!

Hughes bad service and money issues!

We signed up with Hughes Net because we had no other choice for internet besides dial up. It advertises to be very fast and they had a promotion of paying the $400 up front charges monthly with a 2 year contract. We had it two days and it was slower than dial up and they took $496.97 out of my checking account since they had my debit card number causing numerous NSF fees on my bank account. So I was out over $600 to which I couldn't spare. I called and also my husband. We talked to 6 different departments for over 3 hours total and only got the run around. We told them we wanted to cancel that we were very unhappy. They are letting us ship back the unit but only are willing to refund us $299. That $199 is installation charges are not refundable (we are not happy with the way the dish was installed also) and they can't do anything about the NSF charges because it's not their policy. I think the whole company is a big rip off. They only allow very minimum time on the computer and then they slow your connection down to a crawl for 24 hours, refuse to credit back our account when we chose to do the zero down option, and will only refund half our money for canceling before the allowed 30 day cancellation period. They say satisfaction guaranteed, HA! That's a joke! I wish I had done a search on this company before I signed up with them, then I would have seen the millions of complaints. I don't see how they stay in business. I HATE THIS COMPANY!

I have now been on the phone with HughesNet for one hour and 3 minutes. going to post on any site that I can how horrible Hughes Net internet is and good luck getting and service. The last time I called in it took 4 calls (disconnected during transfer 3 of those times) with a combined time of 1 hour. They have actually said today that if response time to pull up an internet site is UNDER A MINUTE then it is acceptable. When I disagreed the young lady put me on hold and I have been that way for 17 minutes. She does not understand english really well and doesnt read her script well either but is better than the last time I called. They will not let me out of the contract even though to pull up Yahoo takes an average of 40 seconds, dont try to open an email. They just came back on the line to transfer me to advanced tech support and if am not disconnected it only took one hour and 8 minutes to do that!

We have had a horrible experience with HughesNet! We were told that this service was just like high speed internet and that we could cancel at anytime if the service wasnt right for us... that was NOT the case AT ALL! They lied about everything! We could not get the service to work at all after the 1st month.. i called and spoke to them about it i bet 100 times (none of the people i ever spoke to could speak good english) they constantly gave me the run around! They then told me that you only had so many mb or gb per month and that there was a fair access policy (which i never heard anything about when they signed us on) they said i was using my minutes but it was using my minutes tryin to get anything to load at all.. i couldnt even get the main home page to load.. then after a storm one time (i believe it was hit by lightning) the box stopped working at all, the lights wouldnt even come on... they said it couldnt have been lightning but when they installed it they put the satellite on the roof and DRILLED A WHOLE THROUGH THE SIDE OF OUR HOUSE (SIDING AND ALL) for the chords, it wasnt grounded at all... The only way they would send somebody to my house to look at the box was if I paid a very large fee for them to come out... after being sooo aggravated paying 80 bucks a month and not being able to use the internet at all I told them to just cancel it! They told me that if I canceled i had to pay $350 fee for breaking my contract... then i had to mail the equipment back or they were going to charge me another 300 bucks... I had to get on top of my house to disconnect a piece from the satellite and mail all the parts back, they wouldnt send anybody out to get the part off the satellite unless I paid yet another fee for them to come out and do it! It was a horrible horrible awful service that I wish I would have looked into a little further before I got it... It is the BIGGEST MISTAKE I've ever made to get their service and I WOULD ADVISE ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY TO STAY AWAY FROM HUGHES NET! AVOID ANY SERVICES WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE NOTHING BUT MONEY HUNGRY ###S AND THEIR SERVICE IS A COMPLETE JOKE! EVERYBODY: PLEASE, IF YOU ARE CONCIDERING HUGHES NET DO YOUR RESEARCH BECAUSE IT IS A HORRIBLE SERVICE THAT SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN! THEY LIE ABOUT EVERYTHING TO GET YOU TO SIGN ON AND THEN ONCE YOU ARE SIGNED ON THEY TAKE YOU FOR EVERY PENNY THEY CAN GET OUT OF YOU! I REALLY THINK THAT IT IS UNFAIR WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO PEOPLE AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT! THEY REALLY NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED!

I am so glad I read this first Hughesnet was very evasive with my questions so I did a quick internet search actually while I was talking to the rep on the phone.

He offered me lease equipment or buy so I said lease he then said ok we guarantee parts on all leased equipment I said so you send me the parts he said no we send a service tech that is local to you I said who pays for that he said we pay for all the parts so do not worry about it...Talk about evasive I then said who pays the service tech again he said with the lease we will pay for all the parts that go wrong again I had to repeat myself who pays the L-A-B-O-U-R? I was told that is not covered by us you pay that so I said well how do I know your units are good everytime I have a problem I am going to be charged by the hour by a service tech that could go into hundreds every month...

He said Sir when you buy a car its as is right it works the same when you get the equipment... I said WHAT! Its leased equipment not owned... He said ok its like when you rent a car you need insurance right? I said it has nothing to do with renting a car if it was a car I would pay for insurance but I am leasing ok if I lease a car and it goes wrong its FREE To fix...

I ended up saying forget it

Hughesnet is a disaster and I'm shocked that they are still in business. I moved from Oregon to New Mexico. I didn't yet know about Windstream (which is relatively great). Hughesnet hires out...subcontracts out...private installation people. On 3...THREE separate occassions, these private contractors never showed up. I waited each time on my porch for about 5 hrs or so. Subsequently, for the first 10 days I was in New Mexico, I had to stay in a motel. I teach online and would have invariably lost my job, had I not stayed in a motel. So all told, Hughestnet cost me about 600 between motel and general expenses. ctually, it was more...probably around 850. On three different days, these imbeciles didn't show. The individual contractors that Hughes hires out are incredibly unreliable and incompetent. The [censor]s are TERRIBLE. DO NOT USE HUGHESNET. GO WITH WINDSTREAM. YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU USE HUGHESNET.

Hughes fair access and termination

I have been a stupid customer of first direcway and now hughesnet when I moved in february 07. I was hoping I didn't need it, but since i'm rural, I still did. It is the worst possible service in the history of the internet - they never tell you about their "fair access policy" until you go over your limit and your connection speed degrades to below dial-up. I go over the limit because my computer sometimes downloads system software - which exceeds their max. If you complain, you get told its your fault, and their is nothing you can do for 24 hours. I did just get told that there is now no limit if you download between 3and6am est!

Hughesnet is a rip-off. 4-6 times the price of dsl or dial-up. They have us without other options at their own will, they make up rules as they go along, without any notice and without any option to their customers to back out because of their service. If you are unhappy with their service - tough - you were stupid enough to get sucked into their false advertising and high-speed promises!

I can not wait for dsl to make it to me, my hughesnet dish will be on the curb as soon as possible. If you are thinking about getting hughesnet - don't unless you are like me and need it for your job, because dial-up just won't work. Its not worth the expense!

I've had hughesnet for about 6 months now and I would NOT recommend it to anyone. I keep hoping DSL will eventually be available to me and I'm going to dump Hughesnet like a bad habit. I know I'll probably have to pay a termination fee, but it'll be worth it to get away from Hughesnet!

I have always been happy with DirecWay / Hughesnet. Their service and equipment worked as I expected for many years. Anytime a service issue would arise they handled it within 5 days max. at my house.
My problem is with the new fair access policy. There is nothing fair nor unbound about this. If you go over some obscure limit within 24 hours, you loose service for 24 additional hours.
I use my service heavily 2 days a week. The first day all is well. The second day, snail service. God forbid, I need to take a university test online, the second day. Three times last semester I had to retake a test because of Hughe$Pot. The professor said that it is my responsibility to provide a reliable internet connection. I pay for Hughe$Crap and I have to go 20 miles to take a test at the library. The library uses cable.
All in all for me, HughesNet was GOOD until they became FAIR. Now they are just plain FAIR

I just had the exact same issues (and it's 2011) so i guess the network engineers at hughesnet/dway need fired because their service is still the same quality as it was 3 years ago. haha I even talked to a pouty lame [censor] named mike in level 3 support who tried to tell me that packet loss was normal (45%) for satellite. So .. when your service simply doesn't work 45% of the time -- that's normal. He insisted that I just needed to get used to [censor] service because satellite is only for people who can't get anything else. What kind of sales line is that? Speaking of sales pitches .. hughesnet says that they have some latency issues but in their advertising it is supposed to be like 1/2 second because the signal has to travel 45, 000 miles (at the speed of light) and by my calculations that's more like 1/4 second (45k/186k) but (I think out loud to myself) isn't low earth orbit more like 1200 miles maximum? How far away are these satellites anyways. Ironically, my super salesman in the tech department at hughesnet informed me that packet latency is acceptable anywhere from 2-3 seconds. So let me get this straight .. normally internet communications will have a latency of 25-100ms so after a three way handshake and a GET request and then a response from the server, we have between 125ms and 500ms (1/2 a second) to receive a completed response. However, it should be noted, that mike from hughesnet thinks that it is normal to have 15 second response times and we are assuming here that our requests are simple ones and didn't need to be fragmented into multiple parts adding several seconds (up to 6 with packet verification). How can service be so crappy that technical support says that unless we have a specific error then we can't resolve your problems and significant packet loss and latency issues aside (because we can't fix those) we need something real that we can blame on your browser or your router or on other parts of the ever so mysterious internet that are obviously completely out of our control.

I am on the phone right now with level 2 tech support. After 3hours of asking why my telnet and ssh session to my office server(s) ( with 4 different internet server providers on 4 different gateways ) are being dropped after 15 seconds from when i login to them. I am told that they do not support telnet or ssh. I am like WTF are you talking about. So I ask Robert the tech to speak to a supervisor because that is not the answer you give someone like me who has 15 years working as a Network Engineer.

So I said to the supervisor "What a bull#&*$ answer I just got from your tech, let me ask you a question do you support ping? I am getting a 42% packet loss right now Your own diag software in YOUR #$&*(%^% Receiver OS has ping are you going to tell me that you don't support ping?" "Please don't tell me that... because the people in Maryland are gonna look dumb when they get notice that a lawsuit has been filled against them for what you have said.."

So the super took a look and he is like damn you got a 40% packet loss here.. Guess we will have to look at seeing if there is a bigger problem that is going on.

So mike at level 2 HN tech support. You piece of lying buck passing crap. Realize now that not every call can BS'd through. Get out of the business.. You don't know what your doing. Your just a little punk answering the phone like a front desk cutie at a office.

Hughes having to pay the monthly fee after a death

My husband, David Moorman, passed away July 15 after a heart attack on July 14. He was a Hughes.net subsriber. Even after I submitted the death certificate which stated he died on July 15, 2007, I had to pay another month to Hughes in order to close Dave's VISA acct. I find it appalling, unethical, and every other unprintable word to charge for a service to someone who is dead. On top of grieving, managing our children, taking care of business, I got this from Hughes.net. They said I had to pay another month because it took me 4 weeks to FAX the death certificate. I did make the call 2 weeks after Dave died. Even though they got the certificate, they still charged me because it is their policy. I will tell everyone I know to never use Highes.net for anyhting. You make money off of poeple who are unable to use the Internet because they are already dead and gone. This is morally wrong, and frankly, they owe me money. Sincerely, Christine Ferrero

Hey dude above me ^, I understand(but find irritating) the need of the FAP, but the whole speed thing is outrageous. I have the 1mbps plan, and most of the time I'm getting 500kbps... Maybe! If the limitations are that bad, then they shouldn't claim the high speeds in the first place! "You get 2mbps download. Haha, just kidding, you only get 750kbps. Deal with it or fork over $400 to cancel." I bet that's what the tech support is saying if they spoke English. -_-

FYI...I have read through some of the complaints against the HughesNet high-speed internet service via satellite and have come to the conclusion that most folks don't really understand how the system works.
First of all, it is not able to compete with the speeds or usage that the cable or dsl services offer. A satellite based system has restrictions that simply must be dealt with. As far as the restricted usage is concerned, if everyone was allowed to download as much as they wished anytime they wanted, it would bog the entire system down and interfere with everyone elses abillity to use it. But did you know that you can download as much as you want from 2am until 7am? That is because most folks are not using the system at that time so you cannot interfere with their usage. Did you also know the only 5% of the cable users use over half of its bandwidth? Hughes is simply trying to be fair to everyone. If you want to download more...then purchase a higher package. If you go over your usage, then you are slowed down for 24 hours only, then it picks back up again to its regular speeds. Hughes has improved the system as technology has improved over the years. The HN9000 has none of the issues the 6 and 7000 had. If you have had the system for a few years, it is worth the upgrade. If you upgrade, then cancel your old account so you don't get a double bill. If you do get a double bill, then they will correct it. Hughes has NEVER raised their package rates...NEVER, yet they have raised the speeds several times! I really cannot believe the silly complaints I have read on here. Sometimes the customer has to take some responsibility for their actions, computer operations...and deal with the fact that if you live in the country, then you have to deal with certain things. The satellite dishes allow us to access tv and internet sites that everyone in the cities have.
I agree that dealing with the folks in India can be difficult, but use some patience and realize that no money is made on the Customer Service Dept. Hughes is simply trying to kep costs down so they can keep the rates down.
Finally, I would like to state a simple fact...order from your Local Dealer and be aware of what you are ordering. The most important factor in your satisfaction is the Tech that installs the system for you. He/She is the only person you will see face to face. If the install is good and solid, then chances are you will be very happy with the service. But ifyou have a million Customers, you are bound to have a few that are not happy.

I am a HughesNet Tech, and I have seen the satellite industry grow and change and improve over the last 15 years. It is only getting better.

I agree with you 100 percent, no download limit when I signed on with them and then all of a sudden they have a Fair Act Policy limiting your usage, I think there is enough of us that have been screwed by this same BS that a good attorney could file a class action lawsuit against Hughes Net and get some of our money refunded and the attorney could make enough to retire.

Hughes - slow and unreliable internet connection

Ever since Hughes.Net offered to upgrade my system for a commitment of an additional 15 months on the service contract, the internet connection is very poor and very slow. The so called "Technical Support" consists of people who can barely speak ENGLISH and are of no help whatsoever, and give inconsistent advice. I have always had trouble with Hughes.Net, but now it's even worse. Lawrence Mayhew

Hughes theft, illegally resticting usage!

We have had hughes.net since directway as well as direcway TV. The TV service has been dropped but as for the ISP its was all that was available for us. (A all to exploitable situation of a mjority of its customers) Well thats no longer the case amen.

The weather interruptions, the iced up dish and the year round garden hose fix are gone. But the service never provided anything near what was advertised. It is not even twice as fast as dial up and uploads... That it is advertised as high speed alone is proof enough of theft.

The technical support has a uncanny way of securing its own, and the customer suffers the consequences of this. They nuke your browser and let you find your way back to the servers or call tech support most all other isp leave a notice that such has accorded.

This off shore corporation "American INC." IS VERY DEFENSIVE. This complaint is being type up on a computer that is not currently connected to hughes.net. Last year about this time if I were to try and type or surf to any kind of consumer sites the page would not load or the browser would crash. It took several system recovery's and weeks to finally get to the Federal Communication site and form which upon being half completed the browser crashed that is how well they track their customers as they keep an identical copy of your machine on their servers. Unfortunately for Hughes.net the next day. The first thing on the Feds site that loaded was my uncompleted form and miraculously I was able to finish and send it with notice of reception. The first of which I was able to do well being a disgruntled customer! A little over a year and a half!

Immediately after this form was filled out the service went from being deviant to some what usable. They harass and sabotage their disgruntled customers like no other using allowing groups of their "loyal customers" and technical support to do it. They obviously make quite a bit of money out of dropped services with their 15 months "free sabotage" plan. I can not even keep track of the software that they figure is not secure enough for their service as you would never be notified it just would not load or work correctly.

The installer loaded a "pocket" disk into all the involved computers on the network which the ADMIN comp ran 45 minutes! Come to find out there was no need to install any software and resulting keylogging and root kits were dealt with for over 3 years, these programs had Dell stumped for over a year and the computer is pretty much useless today. If you were to have to log in for any reason , account info, e-mail you eventually lost control of the computer and the techs would nuke your machine with no notice or the hack would do it to.

If its all you got . You have my sympathy. If not the only people they really answer to they will keep you from communicating with their that bad, their illegal.

Ditto to all other complaints here. Want to know how to change it? Dump them, as I plan to do soon as I get my ducks in a row! Thats how you get things done wherever you live. When it costs them money, things will change. I got by without internet for 40 years. I think I can still. I cant hurt this company, but, damned if I'm gonna help them anymore!

Hughes hughes net stinks!!!

Hughes Net stinks - their customer service is terrible. I have had to fax a copy of my checks 3 times to prove that they received my payment and cashed the check. I upgraded to the DW7000 over a year ago and have not seen very much difference from the old DW6000. If there was DSL where I live I would tell them to kiss where the sun don't shine!

My e-mail has been down 3 days now and all they can tell me is it is going to be fixed in about one hour - BULL! I work from home and am losing business, because I have to accept orders within 24 hours or they get sent to someone else. I asked if they were going to give discounts on the lose of service and the tech's comment was that there were too many people without the e-mail service, and that they would no be giving any discounts on the bill.

AT&T IS NOW OFFERING SATELLITE SERVICE! - I think it is just a little bit more on the month, but it will probably be worth it to get rid of THE STINKING HUGHESNET.

Hughes everything is bad about hughesnet!

Accept some wisdom. This service is horrible. I live in a remote area where there is no other internet service. I have the pro service after I found out about limited daily downloads. Hughesnet is about half again as fast as dialup. I can't even watch a news video clip without the video buffering every ten seconds. Don't waste you time calling pakistan for tech support. I did, and could only comprehend about every third word "rick" was saying. I finally became so frustrated I hung up on him. When the bimbo on the tv ad says "all you need is a clear view of the southern sky" believe her. Cloudy=24kbs, rain=24kbs, fog=24kbs snow=no service. If you make the mistake of subscribing to hughesnet don't get the home version of service. If you're online a lot you'll run out of the alloted download ration in no time. I have to upgrade to receive a higher level of download ration.

In conclusion, one has to know without a shadow of a doubt that a company is providing a poor service when there is no place on their website to email them and register complaints. Nowhere!

If anybody reading this knows of a better internet provider for people living away from dsl or cable, please let me know at [protected]@yahoo.com. I would appreciate it. I'll just instruct my credit card company not to accept any more charges from hughesnet. Let them sue me!

Absolutely correct, worst service I ever had! Service restores on bill pay, then exceeds limit by end of day. Computer crashed and I had to use my free restore token and purchase 2 additional tokens @ $5 each just to reinstall my Microsoft office and this was just in a 10 minute period! Now I'm back to where my pages will not even load! Ridiculous, I wish I had service as fast as dial-up! Haven't had a land line in over 15 years but I have no choice, I just cannot take this crap anymore, tired of fighting with it...

I'm not getting the service of HughesNet they had promised. HughesNet sucks. Actually that's how I learned never to trust advertisements. I was encouraged to have their service... until I found out how terrible their internet was. It was incredibly slow. For the first sattelite internet provider, it's the worst internet provider ever. I'm glad there are many more internet providers to choose from other than HughesNet in my area. I can't put up with their awful service anymore. The internet would speed up at times but most of the time, I don't know what they do but my internet speeds are decreased like 1/3 of the speed I'm supposed to be getting with a NORMAL internet service. Yea! HughesNet is not a normal internet provider! In fact, I've never even HEARD of HughesNet until I saw that commercial. Not many people even have HughesNet anymore!
I kinda even knew this would happen because HughesNet is not popular. I never even see the commercial anymore!

HughesNet is a bad choice. If you are using HughesNet it's recommended to switch to another provider (if there is one). If you don't have problems with HughesNet, you are most likely to in the future as I've found millions of complaints about HughesNet on the internet.

Customers who are close to exceeding their assigned bandwidth usage for a rolling period of seven days will be sent a warning message via a web message and via their StarBand email account. Customers who exceed their assigned bandwidth usage for a rolling period of seven days will again be notified via a web message and via their StarBand email account. The web message will specify that the customers’ speeds will be temporarily reduced until the customers’ seven day rolling average drops below the ‘exit limit’. The customer's normal high-speed access (as specified in the customer’s contract) will be restored after that time period. Because there is a seven-day monitoring period, customers are not penalized for one-time or occasional bandwidth bumps unless the total for the entire seven days is very high. In addition, customers get one free pass to remove the restriction by calling StarBand customer service and requesting a restriction removal. Customers who repeatedly use excessive bandwidth and have received multiple warnings may be suspended from using StarBand services for a specified period of time.

Hughes fap's "fair access policy" is a fraud!

I am so fed up with Hughes.net. First of all I am constantly needing to reboot my modem after a few hours of inactivity. Hughes Net can not fix the problem and told me I would have to live with it. Today I find out that after downloading over 200MB of data in a 24 hour period the fair access policy kicks in and Hughes Net reduces your internet speed to 22k for 24 hours as a penalty for using the system too much. Of course if you agree to pay an additional $20 a month for the PRO connection, they will give you unlimited downloads.

So Fair Access Policy is simply a way for Hughes Net to get you to pay more $$$. It has nothing to do with "Fair Access". Its more like "unfair access" where Hughes Net hooks you into a contract then informs you of new rules limiting your access. Run if you can from Hughes Net, the service SUCKS!

I was with DirecWay before it became Hughes. I went from unlimited to FAP. After constant FAP and every other day of being punished, they told me I could buy a higher plan. I tossed them and went to a wireless provider via radio signal. The base station still makes a satellite connection ultimately BUT no FAP FAP is a bait and switch ploy. The advertised price is always the bottom plan. They never advertise the "normal" plan. Their base plan offers less data than a cellphone. FAP i should be illegal.

I got hughesnet in march 2012. Within a week I was charged by hughesnet and the installer. I talked to hughesnet and they said they
had no control over the company that installed the equipment. That's were the problem started. I knew then that hughesnet was no good when they won't take responsability for a company that work's for them. So I cancelled right there and then. A few days later the
installer came back and remove the equipment. I got most of my money refunded. Since then I have recieved numerous letter's saying
that I still owe them money for the equipment that the installer took back. After numerous phone calls and letter's they finally realize
that I did not have the equipment, the installer has it. Now they want the installer to return the equipment to me so I can mail it to them.
The kicker is they want me to pay for everything and after they recieve it I will get remburst. (Yes I was born yesterday) So I told them
instead of putting me in the middle, why not have the installer return the equipment and they can remburst them. That's to easy. And
this is were the problem is. I guess I am going to have to get a lawyer and take them to court. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I am paying about $130.00+ a month for the Pro Plus plan because even at the $80.00+ plan my speed was so slow we couldn't even watch NetFlix! I work from home running my online store and just trying to work on it each day, I exceed my FAP limit. Well you know what...paying almost $140.00 a month, customers should have an unlimited download plan! How the hell am I supposed to make a living and help my customers online? HughesNet is a complete RIP OFF and if you ask me they COMPLETELY take advantage of customers in rural areas that have no other choice for internet. Their pricing is outrageous! I only have 6 months on my contract and believe me, I am canceling and going with another provider in my area that only charges $60.00 a month for an equivalent plan and NO FAP POLICY! Good riddance!

For about a year now, I thought it was my computer. I bought 3 new computers and am constantly cleaning the disk but it did not help. Hughnet is a ripoff. My sister has dsl and it is faster with no problems. Seems like we are all screwed and were lied to at signup and it is like everything else in America, a scam. Cell phones are a scam, hard line phones, a scam, satelite tv and even satelite radio, all scams. All companies want you to pay something and get nothing.

HUGHES NET INTERNET IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY THAT I PAY EACH MONTH, SERVICE SOMETIME AND MAYBE A DAY WITH NO SERVICE AND JUST BACK AND FORTH, NO SERVICE THEN SERVICE AND NO SERVICE. I HAVE CALLED THEM SEVERAL TIMES AND COMPLAINED AND TRIED TO TALK TO SOMEONE THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND, BUT YOU EITHER GET A RECORDING OR SOMEONE THAT BARELY SPEAKS ENGLISH, THIS IS AMERICA!

Hughes charged $5.00 a month for invoice i'm not allowed to receive

The company I work for has been using Hughes Net for a few years (unfortunately for us). They recently started charging us $5.00 a month for an invoice. They shut off our service due to non payment. The funny part is we never received an invoice. When I called Hughes Net they stated we can no longer receive invoices by mail we have to register with Hughes Net online and download our bill that way. But we still have to pay the $5.00 invoice charge. Explain that one. If they are even only choice for service don't use the internet. It's not worth it.

Hughes customer beware!

I've read up on all the complaints posted by consumers on hughesnet, direcway and so forth and I just want to put my two cents in.

First off, I live in the armpit of Arkansas, down in a valley, next to a lake. DSL comes within five miles of our house but they won't extend it into our subdivision. Having been made to feel like a hobbit living under the grassy knoll, I tried dial-up. Unfortunately, the phone lines in my area were supplied within six months of the invention of the telephone, hence they are only slightly less useful than Morse code when it comes to telecommunication.

I lost my $65K job in January of 2005, one month after buying the house, so as you can imagine we were pretty much in deep doo-doo. I had to find work fast and I had worked as a medical transcriptionist at home in the past so I looked into that. Everything was gravy except no dial-up. You had to have broadband.

So my fun began at direct way. The installation cost $650, which I had to borrow from my mother, plus another $150 for something, I can't remember now, and it ended up being a sum total of over $700 charged to her credit card (which of course I paid back). The service was $59.99 a month but I was promised better than dial-up speeds.

Okay, first things first, they had to move the dish within six months because the ### who installed it didn't realize it will not broadcast through a mass of pine trees. They did not caulk the holes in the roof of my house so now the roof leaks, something of which we were not aware until after a heavy rain in 2006 and the ceiling caved in. They won't take responsibility for it, so we're just out of luck there.

So now they've made more holes in the roof of a two-story house, angled the dish appropriately so that there are no trees in the immediate range, and we're good to go, right?

Wrong. If a flock of birds flies between the dish and the selected satellite we're out of service for at least ten minutes. One cloud, one lousy cloud and we might as well hang it up. God forbid that it should rain, snow, mist, hail, sleet or the humidity increases.

Alrighty, so I lived with that crap, not being able to connect to my $59.99 per month internet at least 35% of the time, for a year. I was frustrated but at least I was working.

Then the 7000 upgrade came out and I could get the equipment for nothing. Woo hoo. I could live with that. So I called, asked for the upgrade, got it, installed it (using the power cord from the 6000) and voila - my service turned to crap within two weeks.

I unfortunately sold the 6000 on ebay so I don't have it anymore or I'd hook that back up.

All this time I really thought the equipment was bad, or I was an idiot, but come to find out it hasn't been the equipment or me all this time. It's been the FAP! Fair Access Policy, which limits daily downloads to 200 mb. Just saying that out loud gives me a wave of nausea. 200 mb a day for $59.99 a month.

We are also wedding photographers. I require a bit of bandwidth to upload web albums and the like, they aren't huge mind you, really very reasonable flash files, but I do require that from time to time.

I went for two days without internet in the last week just to "cycle" the system and allow me to have faster speeds for the weekend. Technical support told me a week ago that between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. EST that I could download anything I wanted. He said "that'd be 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. your time. I didn't pay any attention but before I could blink again had my windows automatic updates set to 5 a.m. so I could avoid using my pittance of 200 mb a day.

So I'm thinking yay me, hughesnet is actually trying to help.

I live in CST. He was mistaken. He should have said 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. for me. I used up all my 200 mb allowance and was shut down again for OVER 24 hours this time. The next day, oddly enough, same thing.

I've already reported them to the BBB of Arkansas, the Attorney General's office of Arkansas and am thinking of finding some other regulatory agency to gripe at. I understand their frustration but they need to sell monthly GB packages. If you overuse, you pay packages. Something like that.

Everyone on hughesnet, give me a holler. I think we need to get up a gang and lynch them!

p.s. I'm using NetZero to post this as my hughesnet is down AGAIN.

Hughes is the most inept entity on the planet. I had their DirecWay satellite system as DSL was unavailable to me for a number of years. It was barely better than dial-up. I ended up paying thousands of dollars to them for their ineptitude for upgrades due to their mismatch of equipment four times.
My business was dependent on them. I went away on vacation and had all my computers in the shop for upgrades and servicing. When I got back from vacation I hooked up my equipment ready to begin work. But guess what... NO internet. I contacted Hughes and was told that I had exceeded my band width allowance and would be locked out for 48 hours. I asked how it was possible since none of my equipment was online that I could possibly have exceeded my bandwidth and was told that that wasn't THEIR problem. I spent EIGHT hours on the phone fighting with them. They were completely UNRESPONSIVE, UNSYMPATHETIC, told me that I was lying and were outright hostile. This after having had put up with their sorry service for FOUR long years. Thank goodness DSL had just been made available in my area. I was so angered I yanked every piece of their equipment out and took it to the dump. Hughes cost me THOUSANDS of dollars in lost income as well. I will not have ANYTHING to do with HUGHES ever again.

Any FAP will do this, , , I was wanting to get usage of TV. But as soon as I started to stream, everything went slow.
I am at fault to not know nothing about the FAP, and the computer I had wanted to use was in the shop that took almost a month to get fixed.
So I am only a couple of weeks away from my contract. And will have to deal with a moble phone modem. Hey for $60.00 a month to have text, long distance and web browsing and even connect for a 15kb modem oh well.
Yes just started to build my house too. And work fell out from under me too.
Read everything about what you are wanting to buy. EVEN THE SMALL PRINT!

you will be lucky if you get the help your looking for from hughes i have the same system and i was told i would be able to download a certin amount of mb a day i can but i have to wait till 3 am and use it till 6 am and it still is not in the mb per second more like a phone line i also have a sprint wifi card witch is the same price per month and even on cloudy days with poor signals i get 100% better download speeds and im not limited to how many megabytes im alowed to download so i gave up the hughes.net and will never use them again, i think it is a type of scam to get people to order the product then if you want a faster service you will have to pay a larger amount 59.99 for 200 mb a day speed will definately be in the kb's slower than phone service after your hooked they will try to get more out of you the 79.99 package will give you 400 mb's a day but you still have to wait for the alowed time frames to get your speedy downloads but you can always move to the unlimedted dowload's BUT you speed is still the same untill the your time frame hits the proper time usually in the early hours there are certon time frames for every time zone...and if you dont pay for insurance for your system or the problem was caused by lightning, bugs, floods, etc and not from an internal malfunction be prepared to pay for the repare work i had to.

I moved to the Appalchian mountains so I have a similar problem. I called Direct TV and asked for bundled services for internet--I talked to some clearing house in India but they never told me I wasn't talking to Direct TV. They promised free installation, equipment etc for both TV and internet. They needed a partial payment for the first month so I stupidly gave them my visa for a $30 approved charge. They then turned around and sold my contract to Wild Blue. Wild Blue charged my visa $400 for the "free" equipment. I still haven't gotten that reversed--been fighting it since August. They also started charging my visa for the monthly bill and refused to give me a statement. I canx my visa and told them I would only send them a check--no more charges to the visa. They cut me off internet. Direct TV, inspite of setting the installation up, refuses to acknowlege responsibility for giving away my visa # without authorization. Satalite internet is a huge ripoff and we should ban together to fight it. I just retired for medical reasons and had to give up my home in Florida (foreclosure)--I sure as !@#$ couldn't afford that $400 and would NEVER have authorized it. And the "service", when I had it was terrible! When you put a bull in with a cow you say the bull is servicing the cow--Wild Blue definitely serviced me!

Hughes hostile customer service and embezzlement

For nearly 6 yrs I've had HughesNet (HN). Upload speed usually worse than dialup. Made upgrades HN suggested several times at additional cost, w / out improvement. Last upgrade, on 10/09/07 no improvement. Their install tech diagnosed the dish, not the modem, as needing to be upgraded to 2 Watt. On 10/15/2007 their tech installed the new dish. Charged 2X for the modem plus additional for the dish. Total charge about $1,1000. No refund given for duplicate modem, HN would not take return. On 05/23/2007, HN locked out service for overuse of band with previous evening, but no equipment was online. Argued with HN for 3.5 hrs. Contacted HN via online chat. Canceled HN service. went with Frontier DSL. Assured by HN that no further charges would be made. HN has continued to bill me. Charging my credit card $99.99 on 05/31/07. Spent 1 hr arguing with CS on the phone. Told that I had 2 accounts with HN. That they deactivated my inactive acct. They said shame on me, and that I would be charged another $300.00 for early deactivation of my "new" account, as they set new account when they sent me the upgraded dish. Asked for supervisor, another 1/2 hr later still on hold, no supervisor. I've contacting Credit Card company for dispute and am filing a formal complaint with TN Department of Consumer Affairs.

customer service? Laughable! Ivan the "manager" did NOTHING but repeat himself over and over. Stole out of my account and opened up the account in my name even though I never even spoke to them. Someone else called in to open the account and advised the person to open up account in another name to reduce deposit. Also took out of my account MORE than automated service advised was the amount due earlier than automated service addvised, overdrafting my account and causing huge amounts of fees!

Hughes poor service and default of contract to provide adequate bandwidth

HughesNet client for 1 year now. I am a WISP Operator (Wireless Internet Service Provider).

When I first elected to utilize HughesNet at our NOC (Network Operations Center) HNS's service was not pitted against SkyBlue SISP (Satellite Internet Service Provider) in a competitive selling frenzy of a very finite resource which Hughes refuses to supplement.

In the last 6 months since HughesNet began going toe-to-toe with SkyBlue- and from then on HNS service to it's customers began to degrade on a daily basis.

At our NOC we have three .98meter commercial based systems from HughesNet, each site was originally contracted to provide 2MB/512Kbps Upstream/Downstream bandwidth. As of the last 3 weeks two of my VSAT's can barely provide a downstream speed of 700Kbps, a far cry from 2MB!

Since HNS began its competition against SkyBlue the FAP (Fair Access Policy) has undergone extensive hacking- not at all what I originally contracted for in the beginning. Not to mention that the network is extremely oversold in it's present condition. NOW according to HNS's FAP that has been radically re-authored states that HNS only has to provide UP TO 2MB downstream and UP TO 500Kbps upstream. YES, HNS changed their bandwidth provision in between FAP re-writes from 2MB/512 to 2MB/500. I don't recall receiving an addendum to my HNS contract which I had to sign agreeing to the new conditions! How on earth can I be held accountable when HNS refuses to be held accountable itself?

Last week while on the phone with HNS customer support I asked the valid question of how little did HNS have to provide? The rep informed me that the downstream speed could drop to as low as 500Kbps and the upstream speed would likely see 38Kbps.

Rather than throw a few OC3 connections onto an already overburdened system HNS elected to punish its clients with a newly revised FAP. In the days of DirecWay the FAP would throttle a user to a 1/3 of dialup (18Kbps) for 6-12 hours once he/she reached the allotted bandwidth transfer of 200MB.

Now that HughesNet has stepped in over DirecWay the FAP is really ugly! Now once a user reaches his/her bandwidth allotment of 200MB your account is throttled to 0Kbps for up to 24 hours, not a lick of bandwidth will come through your pipeline under this condition. This is not fitting into the scheme of things for my business as I am in the business of providing reliable connections wirelessly to my clients, except when HNS decides to FAP my system that is!

With 3 "Small Business" packages including 3 public IP blocks my company pays HNS roughly $750 for services monthly.

Just this morning I canceled service from 2 of the three HNS systems as I am going to deploy a fiber connected back-haul from Temecula to Anza where our NOC is.

When asked why I am cancelling, my replies to the HNS rep were:

* The two earthstations I ordered decommissioned this morning failed to be externally ping-able over 70% of the time therefore making access to my portals for wireless clients to log onto the Internet impossible most times.

* Extremely poor downstream speed, lately when I run bandwidth tests I am lucky to see 720.4Kbps.

* By depending on HughesNet as my primary bandwidth provider is hurting my business in a very bad way!

As I was informed by the rep at HNS that I would be penalized $300 early service termination fees for each of the two HNS systems I had decommissioned totaling $600! I informed the rep that I would not pay that fee as I am being punished for jumping ship from a provider that can't provide a dependable connection and it was hurting my business.

My question is how can I defete HNS and their $600 charge they claim they will send to HARD COLLECTIONS!

This is literally insane!

I mean come on folks, if I can't provide a usable service to you- how do I justify monetarily penalizing my client when he/she cancels service due to my failure to provide said services?

Also might I suggest what an un-named HNS billing department employee strongly suggested to forum users at www.broadbandreports.com to do... Get your credit card off of the payment system at HNS IMMEDIATELY! Call in and tell them you want to be placed onto Invoice Billing, it will cost you $5 a month more for this service, but is a far cry better than trying to get HNS to refund money to your credit card after and erroneous charge has been placed on it as this regularly does happen. Just call once a month and ask to pay by check to ensure service continuance.

One client mentioned by the HNS billing rep was steaming mad when he saw a $500 charge for service from HNS, not so bad you say huh? This person didn't even know who HNS was let alone own a HughesNet system to attain SISP from!

Regards
Pat Taylor

I was a customer for 3 years because I had no other option. I finally have DSL available to me and the $24.99/month service is FAR more reliable connection (I received an error message on 40% of all my attempts to load web pages) and 3x the speed as the Pro Plus plan from Hughesnet, costing $80/month. Now, after 3 years of use and fully paying all the expensive equipment costs, I am being charged $248 for 'EARLY' termination. I don't feel I should pay it, and would like to know if anyone else has defaulted on this payment. I believe there should be a class action suit against this company. They rip off people in rural areas that have no option but to pay their exorbitant prices and deal with their substandard service.

I intend to sign the petition at the address above, and hope for a proper resolution.

You are accurate however if you get your money back they will just turn you over to collections and ruin your credit report if you don't pay... Extortion! Pay me for a service you didn't get or I'll ruin you.

There needs to be a class action law suit to get these guys in line. Right now my situation is similar, fraction of the bandwidth they charged me for, they claim speeds aren't guarenteed. Well they guarentee themselves income for these non-guarenteed speeds. I got my $ back from my credit card company that's when the above happened so it's either repay or be ruined. I paid again under duress and filed a complaint with the Attorney General I hope they get what's coming, we'll see.

Hughes Net is a fraud and a scam. Anyone sucked into it should. Demand refund from your credit card company. They don't want to do it but insist that it was a fraudulent transaction and they are forced by law to comply. Cancel the card and get a different account. They know they can not win in any court.

Hughes Customer Reviews Overview

HughesNet is a satellite internet service provider that offers broadband connectivity to customers across the United States, particularly in rural and remote areas where traditional high-speed internet options are limited or unavailable. Their services include various internet plans with different data allowances to suit individual usage needs. HughesNet emphasizes its availability nationwide, leveraging satellite technology to provide internet access. Additionally, they offer built-in features such as data-saving modes to help manage bandwidth usage.

Hughes In-depth Review

In Summary: HughesNet offers satellite internet services primarily targeting rural and remote areas where traditional broadband is not available. While it provides widespread coverage and a variety of plans, customers should be aware of its speed limitations, data caps, and contract terms. The installation process is straightforward, but there may be initial costs involved. Performance can vary, especially during peak times, and customer service experiences are mixed. HughesNet includes features like built-in Wi-Fi and a Bonus Zone, but users must weigh these against the overall cost and value for money. The company also shows a commitment to sustainability and community involvement.

Company Overview: HughesNet is a long-standing provider of satellite internet services, known for connecting users in rural and remote areas. Their core offerings revolve around internet connectivity with a focus on areas underserved by traditional broadband.

Internet Service Options: HughesNet offers a range of plans that vary in price and data allowances, with speeds up to 25 Mbps. All plans come with data caps, and exceeding these limits can result in reduced speeds. Contract terms typically require a 24-month commitment.

Installation and Setup: Installation is generally handled by professional technicians and is often praised for its simplicity. Customers receive a satellite dish and modem, but there may be initial setup fees or equipment costs to consider.

Performance and Reliability: Users report that actual speeds can sometimes fall short of advertised speeds, particularly during peak hours. However, the network is known for its reliability in areas where other internet services are unavailable.

Customer Service: Customer service experiences with HughesNet are varied, with some users reporting quick and helpful responses, while others have faced challenges. Support is available through phone, email, and chat.

Coverage and Availability: HughesNet's primary advantage is its extensive geographic coverage, especially in rural and remote areas where other internet options are limited or nonexistent.

User Experience: Customer reviews are mixed, with some praising the service for its availability and others critiquing it for speed and data limitations. The user interface for account management is functional, and the mobile app offers additional convenience for managing services.

Additional Features and Services: HughesNet includes built-in Wi-Fi with its modems and offers a Bonus Zone, where customers can use additional data during off-peak hours. Other value-added services may be available depending on the plan.

Pricing and Value for Money: When compared to other satellite internet providers, HughesNet's pricing is competitive, but it may seem high compared to traditional broadband. The company occasionally offers promotions, but customers should be mindful of termination fees and refund policies.

Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility: HughesNet demonstrates a commitment to reducing its environmental impact and engages in various sustainability initiatives. The company also participates in community programs and strives for social responsibility.

Pros and Cons: HughesNet's key advantages include its availability in remote areas and the inclusion of features like the Bonus Zone. However, the disadvantages of speed limitations and data caps are significant. The service is best suited for users with limited internet options.

Final Verdict: HughesNet is a viable option for users in rural and remote locations who have limited access to other types of internet services. While it offers reliable coverage and some unique features, potential customers should carefully consider the speed and data limitations, as well as the overall cost, before committing. For light internet users and those without other options, HughesNet can be a suitable choice, but heavy streamers and those used to high-speed broadband may find it lacking.
