It seems that Credit card companies are ripping the user of their cards. I constantly have to watch for their little tricks.

I have a Best Buy credit card handled through HSBC Retail Services, City of Industry, CA and Wilmington, DE. I made a purchase on March 15, 2007 and decided to take advantage of the 90 days same as cash feature. Their records show that I paid the full amount on May 11th, so I was well within the 90 days. It now appears that I will have to pay an additional $10. Why? Because I did not make a payment between March and May. Dana in Customer Services stated that I am required to make a payment, even though I fulfilled all of the other requirements. The ten dollars is a penalty fee for not making a timely payment. OUTRAGEOUS, SHOCKING, SHAMEFUL, UNPLEASANT, DESPICABLE, OFFENSIVE, AND CONTEMPTIBLE! If I pay in full before the 90 days is elapsed I should not have to pay any additional amount.

I fully intend to contact everyone I can think of to vociferously protest and inform them of this action. Their customer retention will drop by at least one due to this action.

This is the first time ever for me at 46 looking for an answer as to why a local kawaski dealership would even allow HSBC to finance anyone who is 16 years old with no credit history. Not only that, this acccounts protection plan that was paid for over 32 months did nothing to assist when the creditor was unemployed for 8 months after paying the required TAP insurance. HSBC card services is a scam as well as the Kawasaki dealership in Tyngsboro Ma. Shame on them for allowing this to happen. And even more remorseful, shame on HSBC for acquiring a collection agency as shady as Corporate Receiveables, they are they most shameful, shady, unethical, lying group of individuals I have ever dealt with. What a shame this is what we have come to

I, too, have had nothing but problems with this freaking company! I bought 2 computeres from them --Gateway--they neglected to tell me that it was a revolving account and that after a certain amount of time, the interest rate would go up! UP meaning sky high---my interest rate is almost half of my payment amount due. I tried on more than one occasion talking to these people and they all say that that is the way it is with a revolving account...talk about shady dealings. What ever happened to Obama's law that was supposed to help consumers that are getting ripped off by companies such as this? By now, all these companies have already raised their rates on the consumers and have charged us out the butt!

I have a Best Buy credit card through HSBC Retail Services and first let me tell you not only do they charge you a $39.00 late fee if your ONE day late but they charge all their customers TWICE for the month of March because February only has 28 days. So not only do you make a payment in February but you make TWO for the month of March. I am so fed up with this company along with their customer service. None of the agents want to help, they keep interupting and always say they are right. I have numerous credit cards and they are the ONLY company I have problems with EVERY MONTH. I will NEVER use HSBC Retail Services again!

As for overseas jobs, Hsbc is NOT AN AMERICAN Company, so next time you decide to choose an auto finance company, you might want to research it first.

has anyone out there had any success in getting fees reveresed? does anyone have any advice?
like so many others on here i have been hit with a $39 late fee and £25 returned check as when i was making my first online payment (for the full amount to pay off the card) i entered a wrong digit on the bank routing number. i received no notification that the payment had been rejected. a week later i got an email saying my payment was late. the CSR refused to reverse the fee and was quite rude.
in contrast, the very same day i made the payment to hsbc retail, i also made a payment to citigroup and washington mutual (chase) where i made the same error on the routing number. citi informed me immediately that there was an error and gave me no extra charges. wamu did charge me but once i called them they immediately reversed the fee.
i am so angry about the hsbc service that i am willing to leave the fees on the card and deal with the bad credit rating. it is a matter of principle. they clearly do not value their customers and in today's economy banks should be 1) doing everything they can to encourage and reward those who are actually trying to pay off their debt and 2) scrambling to differentiate themselves from the competition and build loyalty with their customers.
i will NEVER shop at COMPUSA again (it is through them that i have ended up with these muppets at hsbc) or anything to do with hsbc retail and i intend to tell all my friends and family about this HORRIBLE experience.
i know how important word of mouth is to these marketers, so i would encourage everyone to get on as many blogs, facebook, twitter, etc as they can and pose about their bad experiences. these companies have people who mine these blogs as they reach so many people in such a quick time.

The problem with this company, HSBC, is that they must be taking their "ill-gotten-gains" (the money they unethically, and probably illegally, obtain from all these extra fees) and using them to make political contributions to an enormous amount of our senators and congressmen. No other scenario makes any sense. With all the investigations being conducted in Washington, DC, you would think this is something that shouldn't fall below their radar. So many people are affected by this company. So, why isn't something being done about HSBC? Call your senators and congressmen and ask them why nothing is being done. Surely this company is just as dishonest as Enron, Tyco, Global Crossing, Imclone, or WorldCom. Where's the outrage from our elected officials? Another way to get the country's attention is to persuade a major television network to conduct some type of investigation. I believe if that happens, the politicians would be forced to address the issues with this horrendous company.

HSBC is a bunch of lying ### thats putting it nicely i have had 3 accounts with HSBC which are all paid off now but i will never finance anything with anyone one who uses HSBC.HSBC will always find a way to give you a late fee and theres nothing you can do about it and if they tell you they will wave the late fee then watch out for the 2dollar charge which will turn into another late fee.I paid these accounts with automatic withdrawl and somehow they could still find a way to charge me late fees.DONT FINANCE WITH HSBC ITS NOT WORTH THE HASSLE!

I'm running into a similar problem it seems many of the other users are with HSBC. I purchased through furniture row and was advised no payment/no interest...I decided how much to pay monthly to get it paid off in time. Then all of the sudden they begin to hit me with late fees and services fees and anything else they could pull out of their A$$. I spoke to one customer service person, paid the additional amount that was "required" to get me back on track then a month later I'm running into the same problem...more "fees" and the supervisor just said well the first person you spoke to "misinformed" you. I confirmed I would not be hit for paying it off early so I can be done with them. HSBC is a rip off and should be addressed!

I bought a motorcycle through them. The dealership quoted us 130.00 would be our payment. So we paid 150.00 through our bank each month. We NEVER received a bill. We moved, updated our address TWICE and they never sent a bill, now claiming that we didnt update our address. Now, a year later, we find out through the one and only bill sent to our old address, that we werent even paying the min. payment! They hiked the apr up, damaged our credit, and say I woe them 900.00! 400 of which are late fees! They will not work with me at all. They claim they sent emails and they never did. They wont resend past bills. They are running a scam operation! Anyone interested in a class action law suit, post here. Im willing!

My husband and I both have household bank cards. I have never been late on either one and have always paid more that the minimum. Last month they went up 8 percent on my card and this month went up 6 percent on my husbands because of a change in our credit report that was only about 10 points. Our minimum payment went up a great deal. They are definitely trying to make money through any means possible.

I went to best buy and they offered me 18 months no interest with the card of HSBC of Nevada. I made my purchase, and a few days later placed my payment online to start paying it off and avoid the fees. 2 weeks later i went to check my account and found that there was a charge of $25.00 for a return fee and a $39.00 for a late payment. I was very intrigued and called online customer service. i was told my payment was rejected because i put an extra number on the account number and the bank did not pay it. They had my email and telephone number, and never bothered to let me know about this. When I explained that I had attempted to make the payment EARLY, they told me that the payment had never been applied, and that I had to pay the late fees. After many calls, I decided to return the merchandise. I later received a letter from them responding to the topic of cancellation of the said credit card, as well as threatening that if i did not make a payment, it did not matter that the merchandise was returned because it takes fifteen days to credit my account, and other charges would be added. This is another type of scam. I have PERFECT credit and I refuse to allow them to taint my credit. This is why I comment on this forum; to help inform others as well as ask for assistance.
Thank you very much,
Alina Gonzalez

all of your problems are right, i wish i had read this before. I have all of my records of when my deposits were electronically submnitted and they insist I owe them 6 months of late fees. This is the first I've heard of late fees, there was never a problem before this and now I find out its six months of problems. When I called them they were the rudest most unprofessional peaple I've ever spoken with. I am going to forward this website ot our congressman and maybe they will look at this for all the handouts

We have had very similar problems. We paid online with my wifes account and when we check the bank account to be sure it has gone through; it has not. We are set up to get our HSBC statement online as well as reminders and alerts...NOTHING. We call to find out the issue and have been told the check bounced; knowing the money is there we contact the bank to be sure and are told the transaction never even took place. HSBC then charging a late fee, other charges and now refusing to take a check. I spoke with a supervisor reduntly resolving the problem. This is the second time this has happened!

HSBC is in busines to make money. The laws and EULA are written to take advantage of the buying public. My advice is to cancel the card, pay it off as soon as you can by scrimping and saving then never ever ever ever finance a thing with them again.

The bad thing is that they will give credit cards to anyone, and then they nickle and dime them into extreme debt.

I dug myself out, I went super lean for a year, no fast food, no movies, no purchases for anything other than basic needs, food, hygeine, etc. It worked, and now I am on my way to a credit score of 750. We just have to decide that we dont really need that bowflex, new computer, digital camera, flat screen tv, etc.

Look at what you have, take stock of where you are in life, and if you think things validate your existence, then you will never understand what I just wrote about.

I got on this web site and see that I'm not alone. They can double your payment and charge late fees. I hope some day some one will take a look that their company I have cannot talk to(HSBC) these people without getting angry.

I financed a Bowflex through HSBC. I have never missed a payment, sent double payments every month, but because my payment for August got mailed out before the August bill came, they did not count it as a August payment and tacked on late charges and jacked up my interest rate moving my minimum payment from $23 per month to $125 per month! I called and sat on hold for 3 hours just for them to agree with me that I have always paid on time or early, but they refuse to change my interest rate back or remove the late fees. What can I do? I am probably going to transfer the balance to my 0% interest credit card. Do I have any other recourse?

I BOUGHT A RANGER UTILITY VEHICLE FROM POLARIS USING THE STAR CARD. I WAS THREE DAYS LATE ON A PAYMENT AND THEY JUMPED MY PAYMENT UP TO DOUBLE WHAT THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE. THE SAID WE HAD A PAYMENT OF 99.00 AMONTH. I PAID ALL MY MONTHS ON TIME AND MORE THAN THE AGREED PAYMENT. TODAY THE ARE TRYING TO SUE ME FOR THE WHOLE AMOUNT OF THE RANGER WHICH IS 10000.00 DOLLARS AND I HAVE BEEN PAYING ON THIS ACCOUNT SINCE 2005. THEY HAVE SEREVAL DIFFERENT INTEREST RATES ON THE BILL. THEY
CALLED ME AT WORK. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE THE SHERRIFF COME OUT AND ARREST ME. THEY SENT A PERSON TO MY HOME TOWN AND HE CALLED ME AND TOLD ME HE WAS HERE TO TAKE THE RANGER. I WOULD NOT LET HIM HAVE IT. I HAVE BEEN PAYING 240.00 EVERY MONTH FOR OVER A YEAR. I HAVE HAD SERVERAL REPO PEOPLE TO CALL ME AND THREATEN ME. WHAT CAN I DO. THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE ME TO COURT FOR THIS AND I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY CAN DO THIS WHEN I HAVE BEEN PAYING EVERY MONTH AND THEY HAVE EXCEPTED MY PAYMENT. I HAVE BEEN HARRESED FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. THANKS

Legal? No.

I have two accounts with HSBC, both in the UK, both in Sterling, one an investment account and one a current account.

Why does it take three working days to transfer money betwixt them, even when instructed on-line? My current account is debited instantly when the instruction is made, but the money is credited to the HSBC 'overnight' account. Why? No exchange or third party outside transfer is necessary.

As an ex banker (client liaison officer ) this contravenes all previous agreements made by the banking associations and federations that I am aware of, both internal and external. I believe it is also quite illegal in the sense that, fundamentally, it is 'an intentionally fraudulent use' of client's assets.

Hasn't anyone else noticed?

It must be really easy to see and excuse a rip off when you work for the company... or any company that screws hard working americans out of the money that they made from the sweat of their brow. Those terms are written up to be confusing and you know it as well as we do, "Lordy".
Anyway, I've been screwed by them too. I FINALLY got them paid off and now they found a way to charge another 11 dollars that I didn't know about. So I haven't received any kind of bill, I just happened to call to check on my account to make sure that it was showing I'd paid it off, now it says that I owe some 13 dollars for an 11 dollar charge that has been accruing interest.
What BULL. These people must not want repeat customers. And they sure dont have to worry about getting my business again.

I transfered a credit card balance to HSBC early this year so I could get the 0% APR on balance transfers that they were offering. In June 2008 I paid my HSBC bill thru my online banking. I set it so it would be sent out by my bank on June 13th which would give it plenty of to get to HSBC by the due date June 19th. Sometime later I noticed that the check had not gone thru. I checked the submitted payments and it listed HSBC as paid. I contacted my online banking support and asked them why it hadn't gone thru and they said that it was submitted on June 13th as I had asked. Finally on July 4th, 3 weeks after I sent the payment, it was posted to my checking. However, now they said it was late and they charged me a $39 late fee and raised my interest rate from 0% to 14.99%. I called HSBC and talked to a manager who verified that the check was sent to the proper address and that it was indeed dated June 13, 2008. She agreed that it was strange that it took 3 weeks to go thru so she waived my late fee and that months finance charge. Then she submitted a request to reinstate my 0% interest according to the original agreement. On July 29th I recieved a letter from HSBC stating that "we are unable to compy to your request as the terms you have requested are not available for this account." I then contacted HSBC and talked to a different manager who said that they've reviewed my case and said that my payment was late and therefor I would be stuck with the 14.99% APR.

I wasn't late and I hadn't previously been late either. I've been using my online banking for years without problems. My banks support staff agreed that my payment was sent out on June 13, but HSBC still insists that I was late. From what I've read online this has happened to many many people. HSBC is purposely holding payments until they are late so they can charge late fees and increase interest rates.

I PAID OFF, CLOSED MY DIRECT MERCHANTS ACCOUNT BACK IN 2/2001. BUT OF COURSE THEY NEVER FOLLOWED THROUGH. NEITHER DID THE OTHER 4 CARDS I CLOSED AT THE TIME.
AND MY LATEST CREDIT REPORT SAYS THE DIRECT MERCHANTS ACCOUNT IS STILL OPEN, "PAID AS AGREED". WHICH NONE OF IT IS TRUE. IT IS CLOSED. BUT IT IS SHOWING UP ALSO AS AN OPEN ACCOUNT WITH A $2, 000 CREDIT LIMIT. WHICH SHUTS ME OUT FOR ANYTHING I WANT TO APPLY FOR.
THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN AND SOMEHOW NOT ALLOWED OF OPERATE IN ANY WAY. NEW NAME OR NOT.
ANY ONE KNOW HOW TO GET THIS OFF MY CREDIT REPORT? EQUIFAX SAYS I HAVE TO CONTACT DM MYSELF. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO. IT HAS BEEN 7 YRS. AND IT SHOULD BE GONE ANYWAY.
ANY IDEAS?

I can't believe this company. Bought a 4wheeler from them with the great interest rate of 6.9%. I would give anything to reverse that terrible decision that I made to go through them. They always find a way to say they never rec'd my payment on time, or they lose it completey! So, instead of mailing I used the internet to make the payment and they still rip you off! Stating the payment takes two or more days to process, etc. Absolutely ridiculous. Its ruining my credit and its very shamefull we have a company like this in the US...please, please, don't use these people. You'll regret it!

On 1/10/08 I called to cancel a recurring charge on my HSBC credit card from an HSBC life insurance policy. (They are located in California and Nevada in my particular case... seems they have location everywhere except in states where credit practices are tight). The life insurance policy doesn't have me on file (I'm glad I didn't die!).

I call HSBC card services (presumably in California), tell them my dilemma and they claim they will stop all future charges as of 1/10/08. I pay off the balance 1/11/08. I think it's resolved... They said all future charges will not be accepted!

Another charge from the "life insurance" that doesn't know I'm alive on 1/22/08 and again on 2/22/08. I called HSBC card services on 3/10/08 and speak to the same manager. She sees that I called before, and what the problem was and that all charges will be reversed. She says I can disregard all future bills "it is taken care of". She goes through the normal routine when I ask to cancel the card...

I get a confirmation of the cancellation dated 4/11/08 that my card is closed BUT "all recurring charges" is my responsibility to cancel (I thought it was resolved!). I get a bill that says a LATE FEE is charged on this life insurance that doesn't know I'm ALIVE and on charges that were NOT supposed to be accepted on 4/16/08.

I call HSBC card services on 4/28/08, and get a different "manager"... seems the customer service rep doesn't see that I've called before!... and try to get my balance of $88.76 reversed and RESOLVED... but instead I get Holly telling me that she can reverse $70... not $88.76.

I'm trying to close off this card and everything associated but CAN'T. This card wants more money!

I have filed this card with BBB in Cal (will be on every BBB in every state they are located in), I am contacting every Attorney General in every state they are located in, plus the FTC.

If I hear of any other government agency that deals with this sort of issue, I will contact them. HSBC cannot stop itself from charging itself even when it doesn't acknowledge what it is charging!

I will be contacting a lawyer through prepaid legal (never thought I'd really need it, but now I'm glad I have it).

If HSBC card services ever tells you they will STOP ANY CHARGES... Don't believe them.

P.S. I not only have a date that I called these people but I have time as well. So if any entity wants TIME as well as DATE I have it.

I SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE DISGRUNTLED BY THIS COMPANY. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. NOONE HAS THE AUTHORITY TO MAKE DECISIONS OR OFFER HELP, NOT ONLY IS THERE A LACK OF COMMUNICATION BECAUSE FOR ONE I CAN ONLY SPEAK ONE LANGUAGE AND THAT IS ENGLISH, WHICH IF YOU DO GET AN ENGLISH SPEAKING OPERATOR DO NOT LET THEM HANG UP. THEY CAN'T HELP YOU BUT AT LEAST YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THEM WHEN THEY SAY SORRY YOU NEED TO WRITE A LETTER EVEN THOUGH YOU ALREADY HAVE WRITTEN TWO.
THIS HAS JUST BEEN A CONSUMER NIGHT MARE FOR ME AND I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN, THEY HAVE FIGURED OUT A LOOP HOLE TO ENTICE PEOPLE W/ THERE SO CALLED SAME AS CASH DEAL, WHICH I GUESS ALL BEDS COST OVER 3200.00 DOLLARS RIGHT, YOU GOT YOUR CHEESY INTEREST FROM ME ALREADY.
