H&R Block / HRB Digital price

I have been going to H&R Block for my tax preparations for 5 years now and have to say this will be my last year. I cannot justify your company charging me $600+ for 1 1/2 hours of work. I do realize that my taxes are more involved than some peoples but the amount of money I was charged this year is inexcusable. We have to itemize a lot on our taxes due to my husband working and living out of town for 5 out of 7 days of the week but how is it possible that I itemized a whole year on our 2011 taxes and only 5 months of the year on our 2012 taxes yet it cost me $100 more to do my taxes this year. This is inexcusable to be charged this much to do anyone's taxes and it will be the last year that that your company will be getting our business. There are cheaper places and also some tax places that offer my husband a veterans discount that your company won't do. This is one loyal customer that you all have lost and I tell all my friends and family not to go either because the price you charge is outrageous.

The connection you try to make between the cost and the length of time it took to
prepare your taxes is invalid. I have watched new preparers take 2.5 hours to do what
I consider 30 minute returns. The fact that your husband worked only 5 months is
also irrelevant. If you had the same types of expenses from 2011 to 2012 then your return required the same forms. The amount that was entered was not relevant. On the other hand, the fact that you paid $100 more from 2011 to 2012 for the preparation is of some concern. I would want to verify that the exact same forms were used and if that turned out to be the case, then you have a legit complaint. Maybe you should try a CPA firm next year, then get back to us on how much they charged or go for a mom and pop shop and pray you do not get audited. Good Luck!

H&R Block / HRB Digital rip off

We went to the local H & R Block to do our taxes, after being charged 350 last year, I sold a house and decided to use them this year. It cost us over 600 dollars this year. They couldn't finish our taxes because they messed up on the form and the computer wouldn't let them send it. I was told to come back in a few hours, that they would get a hold of someone to get it fixed. The one in charge in another office was gone to a ballgame and couldn't be reached. I was told it would be Monday before she could come down and fix my taxes. I think it is a rip off to cost so much to do your taxes, they don't tell you up front what it will cost. I will Never Use them again, nor will I ever recommend them to anyone.

H&R Block / HRB Digital - not doing their job correctly

My grandmother went into H and R block to do her taxes for 2011 and the man there didn't let us know the payment options knowing she is on a fixed income, then I called and ask how we can go about having it taken out and then give he the rest of the money, well we go to the office and it was to late, they didn't let me know on the phone the deadline. she...

H&R Block / HRB Digital insane fees

I have done my taxes for years. No issues. My boyfriend wanted me to start taking my taxes to who he uses for his so I agreed. Prior to going I ran my taxes through Turbo Tax without actually filing in order to make sure H&R Block was giving me a correct amount. We got the same amount to the dollar for both state and federal taxes except turbo tax cost me $90 and H & R Block cost me $445! I was blown away. My return is so simple and yet they charged me more than 4x what Turbo tax would charge for the EXACT same Refund. You got me this year H &R but NEVER AGAIN! Talk about highway robbery!

Turbo Tax is a great program, if you know what you are doing. Sadly, most Turbo Tax returns I see are post IRS audit, and the taxpayer is owing hundreds if not thousands
of dollars. I am curious why you did not gather up your documents and leave once you saw the price H&R Block was going to charge you. Did they tell you that you had to pay it. or else?

H&R Block / HRB Digital up front price guarantee

An ad on the TV and radio stated H&R Block had an upfront price guarantee. I never used them before, so I thought, well, if it's too high, I'll just walk out. I guess I should have checked for the fine print. I'm thinking not all offices participate in this guarantee. I met with a person @ H&R block. I asked her the pricing. She pointed to a paper on the corner of her desk that said it could range from $100 to $400. Now, that's not a guarantee. I pushed the issue and said can't you narrow that down to a more exact #. She said, well lets just put your information in an see. I'm not sure how they determine how much to charge. At the end of the 1 1/2 hours I spent there, then she said it will be $310. Wow. had I known that I would have walked out immediately. Then, when I went to leave, (because I needed to get more info to complete them) they held my W-2s as ransom to be sure I came back. I will NEVER NEVER EVER use there services again. Who has $300 to just throw away. I think this is false advertising and someone needs to fix this.

H&R Block / HRB Digital no usb ports??

I worked really hard on typing up my taxes and my printer wasn't working at the time, so I saved it on a usb. I arrived and was informed that h & r block has blocked all their usb ports. Then I was told I can drive a few miles and print it out at a printer shop. What an inconvenience! I understand the threat of viruses but they can easily download a virus scanner for almost no cost and still be safe and more customer friendly.
They just lost a client!

It's a bit extreme to say you'll never use them again, don't you think? Sure, they could buy a virus scanner and I'm sure they already have one (perhaps more than one), but new viruses and malware come out all the time; how do they know you don't have a virus or some other malicious software (such as a keylogger, which records every single keystroke made on the computer) on your USB? I'm sure they also do it to keep unscrupulous employees from downloading and saving private financial data of their customers to flash drives of their own.

All I'm saying is, think reasonably. Sure, it's a hassle to have to go out of your way to print out your files and then drive back, but do you really want to give your private, confidential information to a company that's lackadaisical about the security of the computers they use to process said info? Didn't think so.

H&R Block / HRB Digital investigating class action concerning form 8863 education tax credit errors and ommissions

The law firm of Berger & Montague, P.C., located in Philadelphia PA, is currently investigating a possible class action suit against H&R Block Inc. in connection with H&R Block’s announcement of the delay of refunds for tax returns that included a Form 8863, which allows a taxpayer to reclaim 100% of the first $2, 000 in eligible student expenses and 25% of each dollar of eligible student expenses thereafter.

Previously the eligibility line of Form 8863 could be left blank and still indicate to the IRS that the taxpayer qualified for the student tax credit. Starting with the 2012 tax year, the IRS began to require that an “n” be entered in the eligibility line to indicate qualification. However, Form 8863 in H&R Block’s tax software continued to permit the line to be left blank, which has resulted in the delay of thousands of refunds.

H&R Block / HRB Digital fees, and more

My adult son had me do his federal tax as I do it every year for him using a online tax service. I couldn't do his state taxes since he had lived in several different states the past year. He went to H & R Block to have his out of state taxes filed. The person there only filed for 2 different states and told him either he didn't live in the other states long enough or some other nonsense. My ire came up when they charged him a total of $150.00 to do 2 different state taxes and then tell him he will be getting only $89.00 back. If I had been there I would have told them to shove it and walked out. They have a sign in the front of the store saying "State Taxes $39.00" Even assuming they charged him for both returns the doesn't come near the fee they charged. I called the 800 number and 4 days later they called back, bottom line they don't care and will not do anything. He should have spoken to the local manager at the time of the incident I was told. One thing for sure they will NEVER get a recommendation from me

You said you son is an adult, yet you seem to want to treat him like he is still a child.
Instead of doing his taxes for him, maybe you could teach him how to do them himself.
Every state that has individual income taxes has a website where you can download the
directions. Good Luck!

H&R Block / HRB Digital education credit

H&R Block messed up the education credit section of the tax forms. I paid to have electronic deposit, it's not supposed to take longer than 21 days. I just found out it could be 6 weeks! I don't think I should have to pay electronis filing fees due to their error. I called and they have no plans to reimburse customers their money. I could have mailed it for free if I wanted to wait 6 wks! If nothing is done about my out of pocket fees, I will be moving to another tax preparer. I feel like I have been robbed! They need to make this right.

You paid H&R Block for the preparation. They did not charge you extra to file electronically.
The 21 day number that people keep throwing around is an estimate from the IRS.
The IRS does not guarantee you will get a refund at all, much less within 21 days.
On the other hand, H&R Block did have a problem with their software this year. Lawsuits
will undoubtedly be filed and rightly so. I suspect the TPTB are not real worried about you running to the competition, although they should be worried. Good Luck!

H&R Block / HRB Digital mistake made consultant

H&r block is the worse ever! I am a 21 year old college student i come out of pocket for most of my school items i work a crapy part time job, so doing taxes comes in handy when money is needed. This was the first and last time i will ever conduct anything with this company. I filed my taxes on feb. 4 2013 i went to 1023 southern blvd apt. 2 bronx, ny 10459, my rep heidy feliz was smy tax consultant, biggest mistake ever! Not only dealing with her but being around a whole bunch of those dumb ### who were as clueless as she was! She messed up 3 times while preping my paper work. As she went to file for my school credit she had the nerve to say i was only getting $31. 00 back, that was including all my recipts i had for my books which i paid almost $500. 00 for. A few days later a classmate of mine informed me that the school credits was not released until feb. 14 2013! So how the hell did she give me any credit if nothing was even avaible!? I went to a different location and explained to them my situation, and come to find out she messed up big time! If i would have never went to double check i would of missed out on a 1, 000 difference for the federal and an extra 200 for the state. I had to have my whole education section amended and now i have to wait 2 months just to recive that money, all because of that ladys hudge lack of knowlegde. How is it that all other tax consultants knew about the credit release date, and no one in the location knew about it? She even aked a manager for help and she replied " ooh your not getting anything back for school". The first half of the money that was processed was excepted on the 15th and i was told i had to wait 21 days for it to go on that expensive ### card they charged me 35$ for ! But yet my best friend went to an h&r block on the 15th to file and she got her money paid in full on feb. 26. 2013 ! And i am still waiting, but ooh today march 4. 2013 i reviced an email saying my state return in on the h&r block debit card when i check they said my full refund was $ 125. 02 when yet on my paper work it says my state return is suppose to be $280. 00 so where the hell is the rest of my money?! There are many of us out there whole are full times students working hard to better our life, full time workers bussing our ### to make sure we have at the end of the day, and full time parents to go hard to provide for our children and then there is a big ### up like this! That puts everything on hold! So yes never again ! This location should be ### the hell down! And all its consultants should be fired because they deff do not know ### about tax polices and wtf their job titles are! Now i have to go back and see what the problem is now! Meaning now i have to wait even longer for my money !

H&R Block / HRB Digital won't give me my money

My husband and I went to HR & Block on January 30th (the first day you could file). We completed our return that same day with Diana Howard-Gaines and received an email on January 31st saying that our return had been accepted by the IRS. The preparer (Diana Howard-Gaines) said she put the card in our envelope but when we got home it wasn't there. When we called the store they said the card would come in the mail. We then started to get emails that our refund was on its way, that a card was sent out, that a check was sent out. This was confusing and annoying. I called HR Block and asked them what happened. They told me I should have the card already. I told them I didn't. I called back the next day after I got another email saying my card would be mailed in 7-10 days. Followed by another email saying my money was on my card (Feb 9). So we went to the local store and told them we don't have a card, they said we do. They told us we needed to cancel the card but they couldn't do that for us. Instead they handed us a phone and dialed for us. They cancelled our card and told us one had already been mailed, on January 31st and that it should take 7-10 days to get there. I said it has already been that long. So we went home and waited, checked the mail, again and again. I got a series of conflicting emails from February 13th to the 14th that made me absolutely crazy. Again the emails would come within minutes of each other saying that "your card is on its way", "your card will be mailed shortly", "a check has been mailed". So, I called the 800# again. This time I was told that the issuing of cards had been delayed but that I could go into my local store and get an instant issue card. We did. While the man who was clearly new was trying to issue the card he told the woman who had prepared our taxes, Diana Howard-Gaines that he didn't know how to do it. She waved him on and continued her person call about boiling meat. Eventually he told her he didn't have access. She looked very annoyed put her personal call on hold and walked over to look at his screen. She then said, your logged on as you, thats why. Shen then logged him on as her. My husband said to her if he doesn't have access shouldn't you issue our card? She said he will take care of you and then went back to giving someone a recipe on the phone. When it was all done we were told it would work in 2 to 24 hours to access our money. It didn't. We went back into the store. They said they couldn't help us. We called the 800# on the card. It said our refund had been received from the IRS processed and ready but that the balance on our card was $0.00. I asked the the customer service person (800#) where are money was, she said it was on the card. When I pressed and said it wasn't she put me on hold for 40 minutes to come back on and do the whole who are you drill again. She then told us that when our card was issued, it was done incorrectly that when it was issued at the store it was not "put into the emerald persks side". When I said "this information does not help me, how will you fix this", the answer was "I, umm". Four people in a row the answer was "I'm going to escalate this to a higher level". Some people told me a check had been mailed but after more escalations it was decided that the check was for my state return and that the federal return should be on the card. Each time I asked to talk to a manger. Specifically I wanted to talk to some kind of regional or district manager for the branch that messed everything up in the first place. This never happened. At the end of my call on Saturday I was told the money would be ready and available for withdraw from my card some time in the next 2 to 48 hours. When I pressed for a more specific deadline the woman became very aggressive and said I can't tell you exactly it doesn't work like that. I then said I want you to tell me will it be Monday or Wednesday. Do weekends count? She said "Lady you will get it MONDAY!, but I can't say when on Monday. Monday at 11pm, it hadn't come so I called again. Again 90 minutes of the run around. At some point they parked me on hold so my husband called from another line and he got someone faster. This time he told them not to put us on hold again. Both calls resulted in the same nonsense. We were told the money was not on the card because a check was cut. They don't know why were told the money would be available on the card. We don't know why the local branch issued a card when a check was cut. They didn't know who asked for a check to be cut. They said someone would have more answers if I called back in the morning. I called back at 9am on 9/19, I waited on hold for twenty minutes - no more answers. Same exact thing and still I was not able to talk to a manager. The man I spoke with did consult with his "leader" who did not, would not talk to me. I told him I wanted to know exactly how and when I would get my money. He said you will get it by mail in 7-10 days. I said excuse me, another 7-10 days. Are you kidding me. He said well there was a holiday and you know they don't deliver mail on Sundays. I told him again, I just want to talk to a manger someone with some kind of authority to do something. I asked him who I could call or write to in order to express my dissatisfaction with the entire process. He didn't know, he put me on hold. He then came back after more than ten minutes and said he would open another case for me. Since he spoke the most English of everyone I had encountered I asked him why can't I speak with a manager? Why do I get different information from people at the 800#? Why couldn't the local branch help me? He said "I'm sorry your frustrated". Great, where both sorry but how does that help? He simply replied. The notes in your account are pretty vague. I'm going to open a new case and make more notes for you. Are you kidding me? I'm not sure how he thought this was going to help. I now had four "open cases" that they were "working on". I 'm not sure what that even means. I told him all I wanted the entire time was the name of a specific person with some kind of authority and their direct number so that I could get things resolved. He said I understand and then told me I would receive a survey by email so that I could review his service.

Do not go to HR Block
Do not get an Emerald Card
Do not let Diana Howard-Gaines prepare your taxes!

1 st. Why do people go to places like H&R Block...when you could get your taxes done for a fraction of the cost at a local CPA and get your refund in a couple weeks with e-file. If you do not understand how to fill out tax forms...leave it to some one who does this for a living...not a part-time data entry kid. 2nd...why would someone put a refund on a card. How about a savings account?

H&R Block / HRB Digital software bug caused tax audit

I used HR Block online software to file my 2009 tax return and I got tax audit in 2012 and was charged $100 interest penalty. Although the HR Block accountant who reviewed the situation agreed that this was a software issue, I was told since the problem was discovered more than 60 days after tax filing, HR Block won't be responsible. The worry free guarantee is such a lie.

We used their emerald advance line of credit and when our refund came in we paid it off before 2/15/10 and was charged another finance charge. I tried to dispute this but they said it took 4days to post to our acct but cleared the bank before the due date. They would not help us and refused to take the charge off, so i will not use them again they are rip offs.

HR Block charged 195.00 for tax preparation and 32.95 for bank fees. This wasn't even a rapid refund charge. Last year for a rapid refund it was 167.00 and this year for an eZ 1040 is was 195.00. I have been going to HR Block for years but will not go back and will tell family and friends to go to Hewlett Jackson who only charges 58.00 for a ez 1040. What a rip off! Your company should be ashamed.

HR Block made a mistake with my Alabama state taxes. I was advised that i wouldn't owe any money to that state in fact, I would be receiving a refund. I received a letter from the department of revenue-Alabama stating otherwise. I paid HR Block 170.00 bucks for their substandard work. If I am successful or not in tat endeavor, I will never return to HR Block again.

Never ever use these people, what a joke. Got a letter from the irs the day I was supposed to receive my refund. The *** who did my taxes and charged me (low-income) over $400, did not file some of my paper work. When I stopped in the office, I found it was the ***'s first year and he really wasn't qualified to do my taxes. Could I come back in one hour. I did that, and the agent was busy and told me to come back in another hour, (guess they can't use a phone) at 9 p.m.! I wonder do they pay for mileage! Would have been nice to know the first time that the guy was a newbie. The prices these people charge are unreal and the agents are not very knowledgeable, don't waste your money or time.

either way I find this interesting...lol...h&r and jackson hewett are charging all their customers too much. i worked there and quit because the big dogs got pissed when customers decided not to file with the company. and most all the service is people off the streets that they train for 3 days to use the computer, and the computer does all the work...just saying. i go to a real cpa and pay less than that for our complicated returns every year. and the added bonus is, that if the irs finds a mistake or questions anything, at least i got someone who knows what they are doing taking care of it for me. google complaints on both. you will be surprised.
like i said really either way, i dont care what yall do...just some useful info.

H&R Block / HRB Digital their gurarantee is not fulfilled

we had our taxes filled out by h&r block in Winnfield Louisiana, and they said we owed over 1200 dollars in federal tax and over 300 dollars in state, so we went and borrowed the monies, then last year which is 2011 taxes we had a lot more taxes held out of our taxes so when we went back to have h&r block fill out our taxes again they said it was over 1500 dollars we owed so we told them no we were not going with that and we went somewhere else and got our taxes filled out, come to find out we were refunded over 650 dollars in federal and 250 dollars and in state, so they then checked the last year taxes we paid in and we found out we were due a refund about 2000 dollars worth in federal and state, so when I called the winnfield office back about the guarantee, for the monies in interested we borrowed and try to get the monies we paid them we were told that the guarantee wasn't for that, so were are out of all that money to, needless to say I WILL NEVER USE HR BLOCK EVER AGAIN AND WILL ADVISE ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY NOT TO USE THEM ALSO

FYI Brenda, "Maximum Refund Guarantee: Get the maximum refund you're entitled to, or your tax preparation is free." I see this on the website, but in TPS they dropped the "or your tax preparation is free." part.

H&R Block / HRB Digital employee interaction

I went by H&R block to inquiry about a possible tax deduction, I drove by the first time it was early. No signs about hours. So since we were in town, I decided to come back a little later. I opened the door, walked in the lights were off, and I called out, no answer. I called on the telephone only to get a message that we were open the 3rd of January for tax season. Again no hours. I was concerned, disturbed about me able to open the door, and walk right in and nobody being there and everybody's information was at risk. I called the police as it was unsecure. When I inquired about it on Monday, as this incident happened Saturday, I talked to an employee who works there. She informed me that the police had notified them, the cabinets were locked. Individual keys. Even though door was unlocked, the cabinets were locked. I felt she had become defensive, and when I mentioned this, she told me that I was, and that I could see the keys if I wanted to. It was esculating. Instead of just saying I apolize and that we try and make sure all the doors are locked when we leave and that the cabinets are secure. She stated about those keys and me seeing them and that she worked there 35 years. I understand that mistakes happen, I felt she was very inappropriate. Then when she asked me about what she could help me with, I had just started asking about the possible deduction, she then popped off that obviously I wasn't happy, and that I could go to Hopkinsville, Murray or somewhere else. I stated you are not listening to me. Again about the door, it finally ended with I just happen to go there at that time, how to I know this is the first time the door was left unlocked. So at this point I will not do any more business with H&R block, and will seek to find another tax individual. TOTAL LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PROFESSIONALISM.

H&R Block / HRB Digital used back round cks to discriminate againt older emplyoees

On October 2012 a 55 year old friend of mind started H&R’s Certified Tax Course of which she paid $150.00 to take. She has an Associate Degree in Accounting, 25 years of running a business and payroll that her and her Ex-husband had started. that was Building Houses before the housing Market collapsed. So she has experience. All went well with the course and she passed. She was offered a position and scheduled to start early December 2012 with paid training. She only needed to pass a urine test and background check. She passed the urine test but a problem occurred. She did not pass the background check. She was then e-mailed do not report for the job. Also she never got her Certification. It took threats in order to get a letter that indicated she passed her course and three weeks after continuous calling to get her paid Certification document.
That background Check was done by a contractor LexisNexis, the contractor who does background checks for employers and is located in Georgia. LexisNexis indicated she had Misdemeanors 4 years ago for; disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and bail jumping. These charges where related to one incident. That incident was a fight with her then boyfriend, getting drunk, and breaking a door. She paid for the door; the boyfriend never persuaded the case. The complaint was dismissed but read into the record. That was Four years ago and never happened before and never since.
A little problem is, the contractor, did not indicate the complaint was dismissed but read into the record to the Employer H&R Block. Her Friend had then notified H&R Block that this was a Dismissed and the action was 4 years ago and has nothing to do with doing taxes. They have not bothered to contact this woman nor apologize nor resin their rejected offer of Employment.
I would like to know what getting drunk and breaking a door 4 years ago has to do with doing taxes. I personally would not even consider dealing with this company, and would tell them to get a new contractor. Thank you

It's not her age that is the problem. It's her criminal record.
Maybe she can hire a lawyer and see if she can have her record expunged.

H&R Block / HRB Digital incorrect tax return filed

A tax return for a partnership was improperly filed as a corporation and when the franchise tax board informed me that a new return was needed to correct the improper filing I immediately contacted a preparer, Terry Moore, at the Wilshire Blvd and Highland office in Los Angeles, first with an appointment then a phone call where he said he would call back, never did then email and text messages with no response.
. I also left a message for his boss, Ilene Brown and again no response.
I am very disappointed with this company and now have to hire another tax preparer to correct the mistakes made by H&R Block
I will not recommend this company
Jerry

Jerry, unfortunately most employees at Block are ill prepared to prep partnership
returns. I suggest you seek out a local Enrolled Agent or CPA. Good Luck!

H&R Block / HRB Digital i have had three different stories about when I am getting back my money

I signed up for a course in income tax on August 6 2012 with H & R Block class was scheduled to begin August 28, 2012. On August 27, 2012 I received a call from H & R Block saying that as of Saturday August 25, 2012 they canceled the class due to lack of students. I sent them a deposit of $25. on August 6, 2012. I have since been trying to receive my money back. I have had three different stories about when I am getting back my money.

First time I was told it would be 7 to 10 days. Next time I was told that there was no request for refund and it would take another 7 to 10 days. Now today they are talking about 30 days. This is unacceptable to me, I gave them my money in good faith, I am on a fixed income and $25. is a lot of money to me. I want my money.

Did you pay by credit or debit card?
If so, contact the card issuer and get a refund.
If you paid by cash or check, contact the District Manager directly and
explain the situation to him/her.

H&R Block / HRB Digital too much in fees

I cannot believe my stupidity for going to H&R Block. I ran out of time to file my taxes and went to them. Issues: Guy acted like he did not know what he was doing. Claims he has 600 hours in accounting but, no CPA degree, fired from the post office, ect. I could not believe w/ Itemized Deductions which were only 4 -- simple straight return, no Captiol Gains nor anything Special the fee was $317.00! I have always filed my taxes myself and will not be stupid enough to do this again next year. Don't know about anyone else but $317.00 is alot of money, there goes my overtime I worked this year. I am dreading whether anything w/ IRS or STATE was correct at this point, I just pray they filed correctly. Concerns me as well -- guy kept my check for the $317.00 altho said I would get it back -- something about electronic into my account -- something else I will have to check on. IRS IS NO LONGER USER FRIENDLY -- I DO NOT HAVE HOURS TO READ ALL THEIR CRAP AND NOW THIS W/ H&R Block -- $317.00 for a simple itemized return -- geesh I thought doctors were expensive but the just takes the cake!

I filed my taxes today at H&R Block and they charged me $280 just to put information in on the computer and they prices are outrageous what they charge customers just to do income taxes you can get your taxes done cheaper somewhere else then H&R Block this will be the last year that I get my taxes done at H&R Block because they're doing nothing but ripping customers off.

If you thought 2012 was bad, wait till you see what is coming.
The U.S. tax code exceeds 5.6 million words.
My advice is start reading, take the IRS exam and then get back to me on
whether $317 is too much to charge.
Don't be mislead into thinking that all CPAs are tax experts, they most certainly
are not. CPAs are experts in preparing corporate financial statements.
Some CPAs become competent in taxation, but rather than roll the dice and hope you get one that knows what is going on, save yourself some time and get an Enrolled Agent. Enrolled Agents pass an IRS test (CPAs do not) and they are allowed to represent you in front of the IRS. Good Luck!
