repeat charges
My friend and I visited italy in march 2012 and had a wonderful time. We rented a car from hertz italiana sparomaita in rome with no difficulty. We traveled from rome to tuscany and throughout the countryside for the week to follow.in sienna, we parked in what we thought was a public parking area but returned to find a parking ticket. It was actually a pay to park area. We tried to find a police station to resolve with no success. Policemen are not to be found; I suppose they are plain-clothed. I assumed it would catch up to my credit card. Well, it did!... Four times. I finally changed my credit card account to get no more charges, which totaled $184.87 by the way. My credit card company investigated and found that an administration fee of 36.30 euros is billed each time the local authorities contact hertz to obtain driver's information. By italian law, this is permissible I am told. Please note that two of these charges occurred on two consecutive days! What a racket! My advice: do not rent a car from hertz in italy under any circumstances. Hertz should be more informative if what I have stated about the law is accurate. Hertz should protect it customers.
e-zpass
Hello. This is fusako aliquo at msa international.
I have received a bill for $60.90 from platepass hertz toll: american traffic solution.
I didn’t have any idea what is for. Then I found out that it was for a e-zpass fee for a hertz rental car.
I never requested any e-zpass and I guess that it was left in the car.
We frequently have visitors and I need to rent cars often.
I think that one of our visitors just used it without notifying me.
So, I don’t mind to pay for toll fees since my visitor use it.
However, I am not sure whether I will have a responsibility to pay for daily fee since I didn’t request it.
Please look into this issue as soon as possible.
• rental record #: m3951915 2
• return date: september 15. 2012
I would really appreciate it if you could help me out by reducing the bill.
Setting up a large volume of rental cars is one of my routine jobs and I have become comfortable using hertz because I am always treated well and get a good deal.
I was using enterprise before but, I switched to hertz because I think that you guys have better service. I hope to continue giving hertz a lot of business as usual.
Please let me know what you can do.
Thank you,

wrong charge to my debit card
I have just received a charge to my debit card of US$ 45.60 plus a second charge for the same amount the same day (September 4, 2012). The two charges have the same entry number: GM30L33357. There is no explanation for this charges. As it is a debit card issued in the US, I could not reject them. The car was returned in Venice, Italy on June 6, 2012. I have a feeling this a scam and feel unprotected. My name is Alfredo Richard and the car was rented through Hertz Chile.
Please help me to find out the reason for this charges and obtain the corresponding credit if they were mistaken.
Thank you.
bad tires on the car.
Car had bad tires on the car and they wouldn't trade the car in. Should have been given a refund of my money.
promised coverage not included
I rented a car from Hertz through the Aer Lingus website. The price said that it included all insurance, taxes, etc. After I made the reservation, I called Hertz in the US (foreign rentals) to verify that CDW was included. "You'll have NO liability, " I was told by the agent with whom I spoke.
When we arrived in Dublin the agent there said we'd be liable to up to 1200 euro unless we purchased CDW from the local office. I told him CDW was included in the price and he replied that it did not appear on the reservation. He indicated I'd have to take the matter up with Hertz in the U.S. The cost to me was 14 euro a day for 10 days.
When I returned, I repeatedly tried to contact someone at Hertz, following directions (but then told later those directions were wrong). Of course, I cannot prove that the agent told me that CDW was included, though I suggested they might have the recorded transaction on file, and that the charges were of course "legal."
Finally, that's all I got from Hertz. The charges are valid. No apology. Nothing. Big disappointment. I rented with Hertz precisely to avoid this sort of thing. I've learned my lesson.

bogus charges
I have been a Gold Member with Hertz for years, and have never experienced the issue of being overcharged excessively, until now. Getting to a Customer Service Rep. for probelem resolution is SO difficult. Hold times in excess of 30 minutes, yet to make a reservation takes less than 5 seconds, once you get past the annoying automated system that goes on and on. Nevertheless, always had NO issues with my rentals, fees, etc. I recently rented a vehicle for under one day, pre paid for fuel charges, was quoted a rate of approimately $216 for one day, unlimited miles, AAA discount, etc. I returned the vehicle to the 24 hour Hertz Location, and usually greeted by someone who will print and issue a receipt. This time, there was no one around, four others were returning their vehicles as well. There was a Hertz representative that waved over to all of us, but never came over to provide receipts. Long story short, I was charged an additional $237 to my credit card, with NO explanation as to why, until I called Hertz the next day. I was told that I would be credited back $118 however, this would STILL not explain why I was still being overcharged by over $200. It has been HELL getting in touch with ANY live person at this location, to discuss resolution, despite my leaving v/m after v/m. This not only put a bad taste in my mouth, but taught me a lesson as well. If anyone reading this can learn anything from this, NEVER leave without a receipt in hand. Totally my fault, however, I just had no idea that such a reputable company would gauge with excessive prices because they saw the clear to do so (no receipt). There's nothing that can explain their rationale with charging me well over the charges quoted. What's worse, is that it's taking FOREVER to hear back from anyone to explain any of this to me. Renting from Hertz is easy, they've always provided me with nice, clean vehicles to rent. I would suggest never having any issue of any kind, as it is apparent that their Customer Service and ability to reach someone for probelem resolution is non existent. VERY disappointed!
misrepresented charge
I booked on hotwire & paid the rental fee to hotwire. When I picked the car up at the pittsburgh airport they asked for my credit card as a deposit. Later I realized I was billed for $ 28/ day of extra insurance (Which coincidentally matched the rental fee). I had specifically said I did not want any supplemental insurance. I think the hertz rep had asked twice. Trying to connect with their billing dept & customer service has exposed me to more rude people & waits. I'm frustrated!

Hertz - lost and found
For the second time in 3 years I've left something in my Hertz Rental Car at dropoff. I've called Hertz and every time have found it extremely difficult to reach the outlet to tell them what I've left in the car. Nevertheless, once I've reached the proper people, they claim that "nothing was found" in the rental car. On both occasions I knew that I left the...

I had rented a car from hertz for 4 days that I paid for thru hot wire.com. I was in nc and had to stay a extra day. I called hertz to inform them I was not able to get back to wpb, I was informed by terry that there was a charge of a $1000.00 and they could not change it and told to call hot wire. I spoke to migal at hot wire and he said there was nothing he could do. I requested to speak to his supervisor and when angela came on line she said the same thing and that it was hertz. I called hertz back and spoke to allen and explained the problem he said to call the pbi location. I spoke to agent he advised me to take the car back to ashville, nc and return it and re-rent it back to return to west palm beach. When I got to that location he still charged me $888.88 plus tax as well as a 150.00 to re-rent the car. I was told by rental agent that there was nothing he could do and again I should got back to hot wire,, I rented a car for 250.00 play in advance. When I went in to p/u the car bought the upgrade and the tank of gas
In all it cost me $1712.86 for 5 days and it seem no one knows why and the two parties keep pointing the finger at each other.
Good news ! After 4 months Hertz Customer Relation has agreed to refund me $848.00 for the time I rented their car through HOT WIRE ! They apologized for the confusion and misunderstanding.
The lesson I learned for this mess was
1.Check on line for the best price. ( Even companies like Hot Wires, Orbit & Priceline etc )
2.Call the car rental 800 number and get a rate.
3. If they give a higher quote tell them you have a cheaper rate on the same car at the same location by Orbit can you do better.
4. Always book with the rental companies they won't charge you up-front .
5. If you have a change of plans you wont get screwed like I did with HOT WIRE .
Since this happen I have rented a car from Hertz in August before they refunded my money, ( Was the best price I found) and had no problems. It was a good car.
beware of hertz rental scams in california
I have been a gold member for many years and over these years have rented many many vehicles from Hertz. After my last experience I will not rent from Hertz again but I will share my experience on every web site, blog, travel site and everywhere else I can. Our vehicle broke down and we were left stranded on the side of the road. The emergency help line was very rude and not very helpful and when I complained to the customer service person (named April) at the Santa Rosa rental facility I was promised she would make things right. Of course I have never heard back from her.
I understand how Hertz feels about their customers and I will share this with as many people and in as many ways as I possible can. You may have screwed me over but I will do everything possible to make sure that it is known to as many people as possible so that they do not suffer the same faith as I did. Beware of Hertz and their #1 club gold scam, it’s not worth going through the pain and terrible problems that I did with their car rental facility in Santa Rose CA.
damage claim scam
We recently rented an SUV from the Hertz in Richmond, VA for a week. During the pre-rental inspection, my wife noticed several scratches and a dent on the rear passenger door, which we asked that the rental agent mark on the damage report. When we returned the vehicle, the same rental agent claimed that the very same damage was new, and that we were liable for the repair. When he showed us the pre-rental damage check, he had only marked the scratches and not the dent. When my wife tried to explain that he had been shown the damage prior to the rental, he denied it and refused to admit that he may have made a mistake before the rental occurred.
Furthermore, he accused us of causing the damage and when pressed on the matter, backtracked by saying that "you may not have caused the damage, but it happened while you had the vehicle" (as though they were two separate concepts). My wife, who was not there for the return, asked the rental agent if she could come in and look at the damage, since the car was in her name. But, the rental agent said that the car had already been taken to their claim department at a different location. When she asked if she could go to the other location and check it out, he told her that he had already marked that she didn't want to see the damage (something she had never said). During the conversation, she tried to speak to the manager several times, but was denied each time.
We are going to check out the damage again tomorrow, but I'm certain our insurance will be charged for the damage. The moral of the story: Make sure that you document everything (write it down, take pictures, double and triple check). Otherwise Hertz will try and scam you out of your money. Furthermore, they will treat you rudely and like a criminal. Please use other companies if at all possible.

fraudulant charges
On March 24th, 2012 I picked up a rental car reserved and paid for online through Auto Europe, in Aix en Provence, France. The rental fee paid in advance online was $67.08 . This covered the rental only. No extra charges or services were requested by us; including additional insurance. The sub-contracting rental company turned out to be HERTZ.
Imagine my surprise when I received my VISA statement recently to discover an additional charge by HERTZ of $183 dollars !
Following my conversation with a Auto Europe customer service representative, I filed a formal complaint requesting dismissal of all extra charges over and above the rail station location surcharge, and the road fee requested an immediate reimbursement of the extra insurance charges of $125.
The HERTZ representative in Aix made NO mention of insurance, did not point out on the rental agreement that he had, without authorization, checked the boxes to include insurance, and never notified us that I had signed off on extra insurance.
The deliberate omission of information by the vendor resulted in a fraudulent act tricking me into signing a form that may have included extra insurance ( and I have no copy of the form ) but that I did not want and did not verbally consent to ( as no mention was ever made by the agent).

Silly/frivolous in nature, Hertz should have called a pest control operator to fumigate the car along roadside and let her drive the car breathing the insecticide fumes.
made a billing mistake-refuse to fix in a timely manner.
Decided to rent from Hertz after years of renting with Enterprise. It took one cocky dishonest employee from Enterprise to turn me off but now that I look back being lied to for $12 (at least Enterprise paid us back immediately) was not worth the decision to rent from Hertz. HUGE MISTAKE!
Picked up our rental...bill was supposed to be just over $300. Paid with a debit card. Drove for 15 hours and found out over the weekend there was a hold placed at our bank for just over $590. WOW that's a $290 difference.
Of course we don't travel with a lot of cash nor our credit cards in case we get robbed...I know it's crazy but it's happened. Nor do we keep money in the bank attached to the debit card for more than what we think we will need for the same reason, if someone takes our debit card at least they wont get all of our money. So we know that the car rental place should be taking $300 so we THINK we have an additional $400 for gas and whatever else we might need on this quick 3 day trip. In case of emergencies we know we can call our credit card companies for advances on our credit cards. Now little did we know that our emergency cash advance would be because Hertz put a hold for $590 as indicated above.
Of course contacted the 800# for Hertz because it is the weekend and the store we rented from was closed. They helped us out in no way...ignored our request to let the bank know they have the incorrect hold amount...actually ignored everything we said. They thought they were being cute when my husband asked them to fax the letter the bank requested by responding "nobody can do that...it's not our policy". My husband responds, "You mean the president of Hertz who makes all the decisions doesn't have the authority to release a hold?" Hertz replied "Nope". Wow talk about some professional customer service and sorry to the Hertz President for your employees saying you have no right to perform any duties within your company...you're worth nothing.
So we wait to come on Monday and talk to the person who rented the car to find out why the hold was so much. He responds, well I noticed I made a mistake and overcharged you and then there's the deposit for $200. Of course I respond "Deposit, what do you mean deposit" Now it's just a matter of he said she said but I know damn well if he told us there would be a $200 deposit...we would walk out the door because we don't get charged that at Enterprise.
So they overcharged us...then tacked on a $200.00 deposit to make that grand HOLD of almost $600.00. Let me just put it our there that I'm looking at my final receipt $273.33. That's over $300 that you put the original hold on for but that's beside the point.
NOW, they pulled the money from our bank for $273.33, posted on our account 1/24. Then I notice there is another hold for $273.00 placed on 1/24. I contact my bank...guess who it's Hertz. My bank wants a letter from Hertz to release the hold.
Contact customer service..."it's not our policy"...again with the nobody is capable of sending a fax to correct their mistake. "You'll have to wait 72 hours to see what happens and then you can call us back."
It has to be illegal to hold somebody's money from them after you have verified you were paid in full. So for now...I'm out $273 that Hertz gets to hold onto until they are ready to let it go. Maybe that's why they aren't leading the rental car industry!
Luckily I have a friend that is about to leave town...guess who she won't be renting from either...Enterprise you have a new renter stopping by the office tomorrow.

no cars available-after reservation
I made the reservation on Jan 10th in Effingham Illinois. When i went to pick the car, i was told they do not have any cars and do not expect anytime soon. After wastign 2-3 hours trying to call corporate office and the manager i gave up. The corporate office never responded. Local manager could not help me becuase there were no cars available. Why would Hertz accept the reservation when they know that there won't be any cars available. BAD BUSINESS POLICY- WORST CUSTOMERR SERVICE- WEBSITE- USELESS. 800 NUMBER IS WORTHLESS. THE COMPANY IS A LOOSER
most expensive ever
I rented a car for three days in Myrtle Beach, it was the most expensive car I’ve ever rented as I usually rent my cars through Zipcar. Zip car pays for gas, 180 miles per rental and covers you for anything that happens to he car while you are driving for a one time fee of 75.00/year the most I’ve paid to rent a car for three days is 242.00. When I got my car at Myrtle Beach airport Hertz, I had to pay almost 50.00 per day for insurance because I don’t have a car at home so therefore no car insurance.
What a ripoff also had to pay 12.00/per day for the GPS which was well worth it. By the time I brought the car back I had paid another 40 bucks for more gas so the rental cost me 425.00, ridiculous!
money withdrawal from my credit card
The problem is that I rented a car at siena the 22/07/2011 and I left it in firenze airport the 22/07/2011
In november : 36, 30 euro x2 have been withdrawn from my credit card, four month after!
I do not know why but the number of my credit card have been probably robbed at the office
terrible experience
My company rented me a car for work. I picked it up in another city and worked my way to duluth.. When I went to drop it off, the hertz wasnt on the airport property. I couldnt find it and had to call twice. They are in an old crappy office in an industrial park with no street visible signs. Had I not finally saw a hertz truck on a parking lot I never would have found them. The office is an unorganized mess, very unprofessional.
They have no airport shuttle, even though they are the "airport" location, and they refused to call a taxi for me.
I spent $1600.00 total for a 11 day rental with all taxes/insurance, and they couldnt drive me a lousy mile to the airport or even call a taxi.
I had to call a taxi, wait 20 minutes, and pay another $10.
This place is a joke.

hertz-rent-2-buy program
I purchased a vehicle from Hertz through their rent-2-buy program. The worst experience ever in purchasing a vehicle. Purchased my son's vehicle from Enterprise in 2003 and the experiences are different as night and day. Paid cash for the vehicle purchased from Hertz on 8/17/11 it is now 10/5/11 and I still don' t have my registration. Customer service was extremely rude, hostile and inefficient. I received an email from Hertz, two days after I got confirmation that they received my cashier's check, asking me when I was going to send payment for the vehicle. It was a comedy of errors from there on. To say that I would never purchase another vehicle from Hertz is an under statement. I will NEVER do any business with Hertz and I try not to say what I will NEVER do, but this is an exception.

I agree with you. The customer service from the Hertz call-site is terrible. I ended up buying the car because it was a 60 mile trip to bring it back and my husband had to have emergency open heart surgery during the three day trial period.
Hertz sends e-mails to you and then the call-site people act "put out" if you call them to respond. I spoke to one or two polite employees, but most acted annoyed and could care less if you bought the car.
I'm sure Hertz pays by the hour. My suggestion would be to change to a commission based pay system. Perhaps money would motivate these employees to show some manners!
my best friend's mom makes $77 an hour on the computer. She has been out of job for 9 months but last month her check was $7487 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read about it here CalmCash. com
extremely poor service
My daughter rented a car from Hertz to drive to Texas for her husband's grandmother's funeral. On the way back, they had a flat tire on the interstate and bent the rim. Hertz at the Waco airport refused to trade them cars because the one they got it from was not a franchise store. They were told they could go get a new tire and rim and Hertz would reimburse them. Well, on Sunday, in Waco, TX, there is nothing open that would have both. They had to spend a night in Waco, pay for a hotel, loose a day of work each and a day of school for my grandson. They were also told that night that they could turn in their rental car and rent one from that facility. It would only cost $253 plus $200 deposit because it was 1 way back to Arkansas. WTF Roadside Assistance finally got involved. As of Sunday night late, they were told that their rate of $49 would be honored but they would still have to have a $200 deposit. Upon arrival Monday morning at the Hertz in the Airport, they kids were told that their credit score was not high enough to rent a car from them. Again...WTF! OH, and by the way, , this facility will not take a parents credit card over the phone so that I can get my kids out of that God Forsaken facility in Waco TX airport.

Rented a car thru
AAA for the week we were in Maui, when we got there the rental place told us we owed anouther 476.00 we were not planning on said we had to take out the insurance of course we didnt have an accident but felt like our own car insurance would of covered any damage if we did not sure if AAA is to blame or HertZ
Hertz's website is currently advertising a 50% off weekend rental. However they hide the fact that coupons are limited for major cities depending on demand. What's the point? Might as well be fraudulent
