Almost 4 years ago, I made a big mistake by signing up with harbortouch for credit card processing. I went through one of their sales offices called paymentouch. Harbortouch used to be called united bank card; they recently changed the name, apparently due to all the bad press they have received for defrauding their clients.

David cho (Aka david morgan) at paymentouch quoted me exceptionally low rates. I told david that I wanted to know every penny that I would be charged, which he went over with me. I kept asking, "is there anything else?" when I was satisfied, I signed a 1-year contract. I am also the kind of person that reads all the fine print, which I did before signing.

When I got my first bill, the rate was substantially higher than what I was quoted in writing. There were also many fees that were not disclosed. I was very angry and called david. When I asked why he lied to me, he told me he does not disclose all the fees, that he can quote anything he wants, and that the processor they go through can charge whatever they want, regardless of what is in my written contract. I wanted out of my fraudulent contract, and was denied by david. I then contacted harbortouch (United bank card), and they refused to release me from my contract, even though I explained I was scammed, and signed under fraudulent means. The only way out I was told was to pay them a big early termination fee (I can't remember the exact number, I believe it was well over $1, 000).

Even though I signed a 1-year contract, they locked me into a 3-year contract without my permission. I painfully waited 3 years, and called harbortouch (United bank card), so happy that I could finally cancel. Guess what? My contract was automatically renewed for another year, without my knowledge. Again, the only way out was to pay a huge early termination fee.

In the 4 years since I have been with harbortouch & paymentouch, big fees have been added to my statement, without my consent. I have been defrauded well over $1, 000 in bogus fees over that time. I run a small business, and this is a lot to me.

My advice is to stay far away from these scammers. If you want further evidence, check the better business bureau, which rates them an f.

Our products and services are offered by independent sales offices, such as Paymentouch, who are not directly connected to Harbortouch’s corporate operations. Any claims made regarding pricing or contractual terms should be taken up with the independent sales office who made the claim. All rates and fees charged by Harbortouch as well as any additional terms such as the length of the agreement are clearly disclosed on our contracts. Also, we are actually rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. I correct my review, in that Harbortouch is not rated F by the BBB, though they should be. Paymentouch is rated F.

If you need more proof on Harbourtouch, do a google search for "united bank card complaints" and "harbor touch complaints". These people are professional scammers. It is too much trouble for me to pursue legal action, though I would love to see a class action lawsuit against them, as I would like to get back the money that was stolen from me. I reported them to my bank, and had them removed from having access to my account, after reading many comments like Daniel's (above). When I tried to close my account, I had to wait for a form to be emailed, to sign and return. The form never came. They also sent me bogus bills for equipment after closing my account.

To those concerned about Harbortouch:

I can't help but think how many of these posts are from competitors that are unhappy with our free POS business model. For decades now, the POS industry has existed by selling or leasing touch-screen POS Systems for tens of thousands of dollars. This resulted in absolutely enormous commissions to the sales people and merchants stuck in a VERY expensive investment.

In January 2011, I announced the free POS initiative. Since that time period we have deployed over 11, 000 free POS systems. Those merchants, prior to that initiative, presumably would have paid tens of thousands of dollars to the traditional POS resellers and vendors. The reason those deals came to Harbortouch is because we are substantially less expensive. We give the hardware, software, support, onsite installation, onsite training free of charge. Yes, there is a service agreement of $59/month. It is really no different than the free cell phone you get when you sign a Verizon or AT&T service agreement. The difference is, you would have had to pay for service with any traditional POS reseller in ADDITION to the very expensive cost for the hardware and software. There is no denying the dramatic economic savings a business owner will realize when they sign-up with our program compared to the more traditional options. That is the driver behind our growth.

When you realize that we have signed over 20, 000 free POS merchants in the last 24 months, you must consider that is 20, 000 lost opportunities to our traditional competitors. It is not surprising that many of them are upset about that loss of business. Especially considering the enormous commissions that are associated with the traditional lease/ purchase method of selling POS Systems. It is not surprising that many of them would come on this complaints board and write these anonymous and frankly false representations of our service. None of the complaints have any real contact information or e-mail addresses.

Harbortouch is not a new phenomenon. I am the founder and CEO of the company and we have been in business for 13 years. We handle the credit card processing services for over 140, 000 merchants nationwide and processing in excess of 10 billion dollars a year annually. We have been named to the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing companies in America for five consecutive years. We have over 300 employees, 24x7 technical support and nationwide onsite service. Since we have launched our free POS initiative in the beginning of 2011, we have deployed over 11, 000 touch-screen POS systems. We have numerous business, media and professional accolades. We are not a start-up that just threw together this crazy idea of free POS systems and then failed to stand behind it. The program is a tremendous success and it appears our competition is not very happy about that.

I am constantly working and always available to field e-mails personally from interested merchants. Similarly, any merchant that is not fully satisfied with our service is welcome to contact our 24x7 technical support department or e-mail me directly.

Sincerely,

Jared Isaacman

Wish I saw this article a year ago, so regretting to go with this company, from holding my funds, and not fixing my debits to read the chip, so they have to be swiped or keyed and then I get charged more. They do not call back about issues, they do not e-mail, I have had the same problem for 4 months, no resolution. I have called and e-mailed over 2 dozen times, no one cares.

Come on people! Read your contacts before you sign them!
Really? I can't believe anyone would put that on the poor business owners who put trust into any damn system should EVER have to worry about a contract. That is terrible business to not take care of clients who put trust in a company to help their own business succeed.
I have witnessed my family using this system as well and told me numerous times about them breaking and losing connection. In fact, I was looking for a solution for a replacement that was shipped out and out of the box doesn't work. The family member called me to assist them. My company is a IT MSP company which we don't have a contract with the family members work. We won't touch equipment with contract or permission. That is a huge liability.
Oh and we don't lock our clients in. If they aren't happy with the service we provide then we WILL NOT force them to stay.

I would like to start a class action law suit against Harbortouch. Everything about them is a scam, my "ELITE" system breaks down at least three times a week, just two weeks ago I was told I would have to wait two weeks for an upgraded system, and be without any kind of POS, All I want after three and 1/2 years is to quietly go away but they tell me I owe another three years, strange how one part of my contract was for 5 years, and another is three. As a small business owner taking care of a million details a day, spending hours on the phone with technical support has taken away from me actually being able to conduct and grow my business as I need to. I could go on and on with the craziness, Harbortouch by far is my biggest mistake in starting my business. I put my trust in their rep, Scott Spitzberg and have been sorry every since. Jared Isaacman is a con man. He should be ashamed of himself, becoming a billionaire does not buy you class nor integrity.

Harbortouch is a Big Fraudulent and Scam!
I am under circumstances dealing with Harbortouch. Like every other small business: #1 I assign a transfer contract for 2pos terminal and they charging me 3 terminal, multiples call and messages. Issues was never resolved for over 3years. #2 BAD CUSTOMER services. Everytime I call in, stay on phone with them Ova hours and all they say (I already summit your request for the investigation ). We will get back with u. Which is never heard back from them. From time to times calling, I ended up with different Rep and start from square one again. #3-Equipment are crappy and Terribles. Within the last 3weeks back and forth RMA and still not properly working. Didn't get anywhere. I write To Harbortouch and request to speak with someone Higher to discuss my situation and contract. It's took them more than 5days to have someone get back with me. During the mean time I ask them to sent me a copy of my contract. I reviewed it, guess what happening? I find out they fraudulent my Signature. Because I am taking over a contract as (Transfer) I keep all the documents and original sign paper. End up they sending me a copy contract of the pages I sign plus extra, BUT I DO NOT SIGN that documents. Now I am talking with an attorney. I am kindly asking all and every business owner a (victims) from Harbortouch collectively (get together) and get with me. Any helped and advise are appreciated. Please contact me via email: cn1979@live.com

Here is a letter that I sent to the CEO and others in HT team. It says the whole picture. FYI We process over 2 million in CC receipts annually.

Why was I billed twice this month $8911.80. If you had your statements out on time it would not have taken me 4 days to uncover this. This is no small mistake. The fact that you were able to bill me on the 2nd of September for merchant fees but could not get me my statement until the 13th is extraordinary. But that was not enough for you. You had to whack my account on 9/8 again for $8, 911.80. Now we are at the 19th of September and you didn’t even notice. We are a small business and this is no small matter.

Further comments.
I have been complaining to Bill for months about my high processing fees. Last month 3%, ex Amex and still 2.9%. I have offers all the time from other legitimate companies always promising me the moon. Most are bogus, but some very legitimate. My fees when I was with Mercury where between 2.6 and 2.7%, which Bill assured me HT would beat. As soon as those fees were not beat, I was given the excuse that we have no control over rising cost at the Visa Mastcard interchange, OK I get that. I also know that Amex is its own deal. I also get that you have to make money and Jared, I think your business model is outstanding. My issues come with what you deliver over what is promised. I like the Dinnerware back bone. This was one of the main reasons we went with you. I really did not care about the free POS. I was interested more in HT Lighthouse and some of the other services you promised to provide including FREE PAPER along with a savings in my processing fee. HT Lighthouse is absolutely not an enterprise program. Huge lag times, inaccurate reports that don’t match POS data (some of the time). Multiple complaints and possible fixes with IT guys that don’t fix anything. You have no idea what kind of burden this has created with my bookkeepers and accountants that rely on HT Lighthouse for reports. Ok, Bill says order the reports to be delivered to your email. That is fine when they arrive, sometimes they just don’t. And what about payroll reports that are not week specific and can’t be automated. My $75 an hour accountant is trying for 2 hours to get the payroll report but can’t because HT keeps timing out. I then have to try to get in through Logmein and get the reports, move them over to my hard drive, Oh that’s right I was supposed to be able to remote print them but it doesn’t work. At least 3 time with your tech guys for that one.
Jared, I could go on and on. Bill has said he has shared my frustrations with your team over the last 2 years, but nothing changes. Some of my processing fees have been increased over the last year with no notification. I brought this to Bills attention last year. He told me it should have been in my billing statement. Some were and some were not. I am coming to the end of my rope. You have a large account with me. I am getting ready to open a new restaurant and we are going with Cake, .05 over interchange and .05 per transaction. I know your business model cannot match that. Not everything is about saving every penny you can. Shame on you for not honoring your deal for free paper. Small change in the big picture with our volume, but come on guys. How many times do you want to piss your good customers off. It just adds up over and over.

Sincerely,

PS please return the $8, 911.80 immediately

This is my rep standing up for me
I see that my merchant has sent this onto POS support and Jared; I have taken the opportunity to forward this to Brian Fitzgerald, Brian Jones and Robert Loftin. I believe this merchant has valid complaints and concerns that need to be addressed; I have shared many of these with one, some or all of you in the past. By involving the full team I am in hopes that this can be resolved. I certainly would assume that the double billing that took place this month would be remedied IMMEDIATELY. Kokopelli is a large, valuable merchant that I am sure Harbortouch doesn’t want to lose anymore than I do.

I appreciate all the help I can get in resolving all of Michael’s concerns

Now magically they got a A+ rating! How can that be? I am calling the BBB tomorrow for a explanation. Fortunately I printed it off so I can prove it. Just a scam. Stay away!

This business is pure garbage! Their sales rep sexually harassed me verbally and through email! He then tried to sell me on his side business crap, and then disappeared after I signed the contract! I've called numerous 1800 numbers for them and they will not help me! They said they can't transfer me to another rep, they don't know his manager, and all they can do is email him to call me. Wtf? I sat on hold for 32 minutes and told them to cancel everything and they said "ok"! NIGHTMARE! Wasted a month of my time. Please please please learn from me. It sound too good to be true? It is. Trust me.

This is ridiculous. First Harbortouch has never had a one year contract only 5 and now 3. So to the person who "read his contract" you obviously did not.

Here is the deal folks. The $89 is charged once a year. Every other credit card company charges a security fee monthly. Harbortouch does not. Most companies market it up anywhere from $6.75 to as high as $40 monthly..not annually...monthly. $89 once a year is a bargain.

The cost of the POS is $69 plus $20 per month to cover tech support and paper and ink supplies. If you have even a weak business you will pay more than $20 at staples. Compare that to other service packages from Micros and Positouch $100 and up per month.

Harbortouch fronts you a $2400 system and because of your reasons why you might go out of business you decide out of the blue to not want to pay for it. Ask toyota or lexus or nissan if you can return the car after 1 year because you got laid off. The service charge is the rest of the car payments.

The same is true with Harbortouch. You have to pay for your equipment. Harbortouch Fronts the system so you can use your money to pay your bills. all we ask is that you pay us back.

Also go finance a system through Posi touch. First it will be $99 or more a month and you pay finance charges. With Harbortouch you do not. Saving $30 per month. Then see whats happens when you don't want it anymore (lets say you close your business) Guess what. The finance company wants their money. Why you Say. Because they bought it for you...Da!

I see alot of pissed off people that take no responsibility for your actions. If you had a rep that was dishonest...suit the rep or the reseller. Harbortouch provides an opportunity for small businesses to compete with bigger players. They are fair and they are honest.

So here is a great Idea...live up to your commitments...read everything before you sign it and take some damn personal responsibility for your choice and your decisions.

You are adults and business owners. If you think one god damn thing in this world is given to you then shame on you.

And for those who want to paint everyone at Harbortouch with the same brush...yeah we are honest. I have two hundred clients that I also consider friends. I am honest, I work hard and I work harder for my customers. Every one of them has my personal sell phone. I am a reseller, I do not work for Harbortouch and Yes i am proud of that relationship. Proud of the people at Harbortouch I work with and Proud to represent a good product.

And before anyone decides to jump down my throat as a pawn of Harbortouch, I am not only a Harbortouch Reseller, I am a client as well. I own a pizza restaurant in Norton Massachusetts. No issues with my system, not one. It works. It does its job, it gives me my reports. Lastly in the last year I have gotten 3 calls from Harbortouch customer service from people who do not know me as a reseller, just to check in and see if everything is all right.

My father taught me a couple of very important things. He said Dave, never make an excuse, stand up and admit your mistake and be proud of your desire to correct it. Second thing, try not to be two disappointed when no one else does.

Harbortouch is an absolute disaster, it is RUINING our small business and damaging our own customer service. Lies, huge fees, the worst support, outdated equipment we're still stuck leasing.

Please...is there anyone who knows if there's an agency we can complain to? Anything? We are much too small to have this company ripping us off!

My husband and I opened a restaurant in August 2014. We decided to go with Harbortouch since they were already in the restaurant that we purchased. BIG MISTAKE!
We were advised that we would be charged 186$ per month for our 3 systems and monthly maintenance, this was a LIE! So far they have charged us right at $500 and we have only had the system since the middle of August due to the fact that they took so long to activate our account. Customer Service with them is a complete joke! Each person tells you something completely different just to get you off the phone. I would NEVER Recommend this company and regret doing business with them. Looking to get out and away from them ASAP! I have read through all the comments and read what the CEO, Mr. Jared Isaacman had to say. Well, Mr. Isaacman your may need to take a closer look at your company and how it is working, because I have worked in Customer Service for over 25 years and HarborTouch has the worst I have ever dealt with. We have been deceived and lied too! They not only charge a monthly fee but a quartly fee! We are a new small business and HarborTouch is bleeding us dry!
Mr. Isaacman, please feel free to contact me if you would like to disput any of this, however please be advised that I have every print out showing every charged, every lie, and everyone we have talked too with your company.

I have had the same problems discussed here. Multiple "annual" fees, there is never a supervisor at customer service, not being able to terminate my service, the letter in the mail threatening collections and the reply e-mail from Mr. Isaacman saying he will take care of it only to have nothing happen. Dishonesty seems to be rampant in this industry as a similar thing happened to my grandparents with another company. Do your research carefully before you get into bed with one of these companies!

There is no such free POS system, They send out their dishonest salesman
to convince you that there is 69.99 a month only fee, But God wen you
are in, you get all the surprise sooory fees, my first month I got a
surprise fee on top of my 69.99 in the amount of $54.00, they said its
quarterly charges, my second month with them I get $89.00 deducted from
my account, no explanation no previous billing, they just deduct. I ask
what is the 89.00 for? they said some God knows security fee. I wonder
what will the third additional month fee surprise will be. I ask the
salesman for the early termination fee, he said $500.00.. harbor touch
accounting said must pay 69.00*60 month 4150.00. beware business people
dont do same mistake.

I just got a new charge today also in the amount of $12.00 from
harbortouch, they just keep on dipping into my account with no previous
notice as to for what and why .
They have not send me any notice about this additional fees or a bill .

Hey Jared, I have a friend in NJ who has your equipment, and he likes it. He hates the fees, but he hated the fees with first data too lol. He did the math and is basically doing fine with you guys, they matched his statement and he just pays for tech and computer support. I was thinking of putting your POS in my small chain but I don't think there's multistore functionality and no option to use hysiacal inventory devices to upload inventory unless I'm at the register, If this changes I'd surely install 5 systems ASAP.

I am a mess emotionally from this scamming company. Daily we make calls to them with no resolution to the problems. Hardware and software are complete junk. The pos had ruined my inventory, display pole doesn't work, time clock doesn't work, double charging my credit card customers! My customers are coming to me with bank statements almost daily showing they have been double charged and now being charged for transactions they never made! I am having to pay them back money I never received just to keep them happy. Also paying for bank charges to to their accounts being over drawn because of this. I call and cAll. Email and email. No one fixed a thing. They just keep transferring me to someone else that can't fix the problem. What can I do?! They are going to drive me out of business! I have begged for a tech to help, nothing! This place does need a class action suit and I would love to be part of it! Someone give me some advice to how to deal with this! Please Natalie, a small business owner

To: SteveB456, first of all, Paymentouch is a company out of Ca, and is an independent sales office that uses Harbortouch out of Pa, as their credit card processing. Sadly, they are the ones hiring their sales force and Paymentouch are the ones that signed you up using the Harbortouch's paperwork. Best thing now is to hunt down Paymentouch, and the rep. David Morgan in Ca. For misleding you. call me at [protected], I can help.

My business too has been damaged by these scammers! They are liars, and have no regard to how to conduct business properly. I did receive the email from Jared when I attempted to cancel my "service agreement". He stated how sorry he was to loose my business. What he failed to say was that they would take well over $3500.00 from our bank account! Then after our bank filed the fraud charges, I get anothe bill from Harbortouch with threats of collections. We are now having to hire a lawyer. Stay away from this company at all cost!

HI, did anything come of this? I would like to file a class action law suit against them. I am a small business owner who was scammed, and the system breaks down at least three times a week. I have spent hours with them trying to get them to remove fees I never agreed to, etc. etc. I would get my own lawyer however, we all know the ones with the deepest pocket win that game.
