H&R Block / HRB Digital worst company on earth

I am filing this complaint on behalf of my father, who is very sick with a terminal disease. H&R Block gave my father inaccurate information, and filed his taxes incorrectly for him. Now the IRS wants money from my father that he doesn't have, money that H&R Block told him he wouldn't have to pay. H&R has abandoned my father after 35 years as a customer, and refuse to take care of the situation. The District Manage of a Utah branch flat out lied about my father, warped truths, and exaggerated stories to try to make him look bad and give H&R reasons to drop him.

He did not do or say the things this women is accusing, H&R is just snaking out of the horrible mess they got my father into. It began when he went into H&R Block in 2001 to file his taxes as usual. Rick said he didn't need to file or even come in anymore, as he had been on disability pay for 10 years at that point, which made him exempt. My dad paid Rick $35 for the visit and it was done. He did not file in 2002 or 2003. In 2003 he received a letter from the IRS that he owed for 2001.

He took it to Rick at H&R who told him not to worry about it, he would take care of it- and he did. Again he did not file in 2004 or 2005 either. Late August of 2005 the IRS send him a letter about 2002 taxes, he called them, a lady waved it. Received a letter for 2003 taxes, called them and they were working on that one too. To end this long story, at present time the IRS and H&R Block are telling my father that he owes for 2002 to current on taxes, and all the insurance and penalties that have accrued. Although the problems started with this local H&R branch location, and the manager listed above, the issue is really with H&R as a whole- as in WORLD HEADQUARTERS. They refuse to help him anywhere, even world headquarters.

My father has had MS for 20 years now. It is a 100% stress related disease, and H&R has received Dr. notes on this. Before these problems started with H&R in 2006 (that's when they started denying things, refusing help, and the IRS was really after him) he was able to walk and hike with a pack that weighed more than he does. Now he can't walk, his lower intestines are dead, and he has many MANY other serious problems I can't even list. They are killing him, absolutely. Although nothing can fix the permanent damage that this has caused him, they could at least stop the fast downward spiral he's on, if they would only take responsibility for the bad advise and misfiling- and take away all charges and money owed to the IRS. They are wrong, and now they ignore him and refuse help. After 35 years as a customer.

I am very sorry to hear of your father's difficulties.
Your best bet at this point would probably be to seek the advice of a competent attorney.

H&R Block / HRB Digital stay away

In 2001 my father went to his local HR Block location to file his taxes, as usual. They gave my father incorrect advice on his taxes and filed incorrectly for him. They continued to file incorrectly for him in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005.

The IRS is now telling my dad that he owes money for all those years, money that has spend the last 6 years accruing interest and penalties. My father has had Multiple Sclerosis for 20 years. This terminal disease is very stress related, so my dad leads a very simple life. He can't work, and hasn't been able to for a very long time. The stress of this horrible situation caused his large intestine to fail permanently, adding an additional $100, 000 in hospital bills to his now existing financial stress.

The stress of H&R Block completely dropping him after 35 years of being a loyal customer, and refusing to help or correct the problem that THEY CAUSED has also made him lose the use of his legs. I have tried going to the Better Business Bureau, the media, and H&R Block WORLD HEADQUARTERS.

H&R Block / HRB Digital rip off - negligent - horrible!

We trusted the H&R Block staff to handle this for us, only to find that we NOW owe nearly $8000 in taxes for last year's return, as a result of the gross negligence of their employee who entered in mortgage property interest figure of $11k not ONCE but 3 times and real estate taxes of $2k not ONCE but 2 times for Adjustment total $25k. We rec'd the Peace of Mind refund of $5000 and $400 prep fee refund immediately, as the readily admitted their mistake. We are entitled to receive the remaining $3k we will MAKE H&R Block pay -this is covered under E&O insurance. We will NOT leave this alone -otherwise we are filing a lawsuit against H&R Block

you should have noticed something "off" when you should have received an enormous refund as compared to prior years...true they may have been neglegent, but you should have asked a question and reviewed your return before you filed your return.

H&R Block / HRB Digital - tax course

Don't waste your money on this tax course for what they pay to start is it worth it, no! I took the course passed and got my certification which I was told was good forever. Wrong! I couldnt work for them last year and when I tried to apply this year I was told I had to either pass the assesment or take the course again! What! Are you kidding me! I thought...

H&R Block / HRB Digital customer service

I was wondering if the whole H&R Block company was off during the weekend. I used the wrong pin number at an atm machine and now my card is locked. I tried the toll free numbers and the help desk, but to no avail. So now i'm wondering if I had most of my banking & company tax services done with this company, and there was an emergency, there would be no way to access the money or talk to a person until Monday. I thought this was a rather large company & we all had "people". Or is that just during the tax season. It's going to be a long weekend without access to my funds, but it'll give me time to ponder why I need services from a financial company that's only available to me 8am to 8pm monday thru friday, with no emergency services after hours.

WOW! I think you may have popped a blood vessel in that forehead of yours! To be honest, primary cardholder is the only one that can authorize to be put into that account. Seems crazy, but the major difference between primary cardholder and a authorized user is the legal obligation to pay the credit card balance.

As far as broken english, think how hard that must be to learn a second language, become fluent in that language and then be able to remove the accent so that you would not be able to be detected as a foreignor, then have someone from another country tell you that you should speak better english. Oh, by the way, I am an expate and have lived all over the world and trust me the world is getting smaller and we are all human beings and want to be respected. Just a thought to ponder.

My husband and I went to the Lenoir City, TN, H&R Block office this past week and received our Emerald Advance that we have gotten for the past couple of years. We have filed with H&R Block for many years now and have always been very pleased with our Agent Lanette. Lanette has worked for H&R for 24 years, she is a level 5 Senior Tax Advisor and the LC Office Development Leader. Lanette has always been very helpful, she is excellent at her job and will go to every length possible to assist her clients in preparing their taxes correctly, accurately and quickly. Yes, it does cost a little more to have this service, but, we are self employed and the paperwork that Lanette must go through would give a Saint a migraine and she never complains when she see's us walk through the door. I know that there wouldn't be another Tax Prep Agent that would do this type of work for us and have a smile on her/his face while they were doing it. Plus, we have asked other companies about their prices and when they find out what they have to deal with it's usually a whole lot more expensive.
I read another comment about the cost of H&R Block and can understand the high cost if it is just a simple W-2 for the same job, for many years. However, I can't understand why some people DON'T DO their own taxes online if it's just a simple return. Each to their own though and I don't judge anyone for doing what they wish (as long as it's legal and/or doesn't hurt someone! :-)

My complaint isn't with the local office it's with Customer Service. Lanette told us to call the 866 # and request the additional $30+ that needed to be added to our Emerald Advance Card. I will not go into detail as to why just WHAT HAPPENED when I called today at the above listed time.

A girl answered the phone (in broken English and heavy accent) and informed me (after a few repeats at my request) that her name is Jennifer. The number that I called on the back of the card is [protected]. I gave her the required information that she asked me for: Card Number - Pin Number - Primary Card Holders Full Name (my husband) - Date of Birth - Social Security Number. Ok, all that given, she then asked me my name: Full Name given (joint account) - my social - date of birth - relationship to primary card holder (wife of 21 years to be specific).

Jennifer told me that she didn't have any problem adding the additional funds to the card for use, however SHE SAID, "I need to speak with the primary card holder and receive his permission to verify this information and continue with your request". I laughed and said in reply "I'm sorry but, he's at work and can't give permission for something that I have all legal access towards".

Jennifer then said "I'm sorry, but, I need to speak with the primary card holder to receive permission from him to verify his information and to proceed with this request"!

WHAT THE HELL?

I'm not laughing now. I am trying to desperately NOT lose my temper. I firmly remind Jennifer that "I just gave you all of the information and I don't need his permission to USE MY CARD! I AM THE JOINT CARD HOLDER AND GAVE YOU ENOUGH INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE TO OPEN UP ENOUGH CREDIT CARDS IN OUR NAMES TO BUY HALF OF WAL-MART! Jennifer had the nerve to repeat in her broken English the same exact phrase.

Since I am just about ready to lose it, I told Jennifer that I wanted to speak with her supervisor, at which time she said that "she was sorry and understood my frustration, but, she couldn't give out any private information and unless I gave her the card number again and the primary card holders social she couldn't transfer me to her supervisor".

Ok, I did lose it! I did ask her to give me her service number, an extension number, some type of number where I could contact her again. I asked for the NAME of her supervisor, the name of the county and state that I called and where she was located in. I asked her numerous questions so that I might be able to identify her again (I will remember her voice for a long time). But, I knew all along that she wouldn't give me any of that type of info. After all "she wasn't doing anything wrong" - just being difficult.

H&R Block Clients BeWare! Ask for the full name of the customer service reps when you speak with them. Ask for the state and county or COUNTRY they are working out of before you give them ANY INFO! If they won't give you the information don't give them any of your information.

Good Luck! And JENNIFER, I hope and pray to God that you had your recorder going. If I had a way to record the conversation I would have. You are not someone that needs to work in customer service. However, it seems that you are specially suited for your job. Another tip, clean up your accent and practice your English, you would make a good recruit for some company on their voice mail recordings. You have absolutely NO problem with repeating the same thing over and over and over and over. Plus, you have no idea how FRUSTRATED that you made me, I don't even think you know what the word means. FRUSTRATED didn't begin to explain what I was feeling, you have given customer service reps a whole new meaning in my book. It's a new cut down that I can call anyone that really irritates and angers me.

I can see it now, telling my friends when they really make me mad! "Grow up and Get A Brain, You Are Acting Like the H&R Block Customer Service Agent - Jennifer"! No, I couln't do that to a friend, that's really a low blow and hitting below the belt. My friends couldn't ever be on the same level as you, I really should call back and ask for Richard Cranium, the whole office would put me through to your extension!

H&R Block / HRB Digital improper filing

H&R Block has bunch of jokers preparing the taxes. Mine was done by one and I'm still waiting for my refund (> 10weeks). I could go on and on about the horrific incident and time I spent dealing with H&R but I wont. Take my advice like the rest in here, DONT go to H&R Block, and to state the fact H&R process highest number of errors (4 :10) while preparing returns.

H&R Block / HRB Digital i want my money

I cancelled my emerald card back in February and I have been waiting for two months to get my money. I have been calliing in and have gotten no where with the customer representatives. I was told on Monday by Lewis a rep that you can not speak with supervisors over the phone, this is part of the problem. During the two months that I have been calling I have not spoken with the same person twice. The entire department knows about this matter but no one is taking care of it. I also had a problem with the Emerald Card. I made 2 purchases with my card at 2 different restaurants on 2 different days. When I looked at my statement, it showed the 1st purchase that was pending still deducted (bill without tip) and then a second purcahse (bill with tip) also deducted. I called customer service immediately, and I was told that I personally had to contact each restaurant and get in writing that the funds for the first 2 charges could get released back to my card. I have NEVER heard of this before. I got all of the information sent to H&R Block, and it took them 3 weeks to put the money on my card.

I, too, asked to speak with a supervisor, and all they did was take my number and hang up on me to have a supervisor call me back, which of course never happened.

I've been an H&R Block customer for almost 10 years. Due to this horrible experience, not only do I NOT recommend the Emerald Card, but I will not be a customer of H&R Block anymore.

H&R Block / HRB Digital treatment

On March 3rd, 2009 I presented, upon request, a tax claim application with an amount of $35.00 to Mr. Bruce Bulla, tax consultant. He said "I will e-mail that today & you should receive your $ in about 2 weeks. On March 20, because I had received no return funds I phoned H&R Block. The desk clerk told me it was because I had not paid the $98.00 service charge! This was the FIRST & ONLY request that I had heard. I was immediately confused & frustrated to think that I had waited all this time for my refund & it hadn't even been dealt with because of this $98.oo! I told the clerk that I would like to talk with Mr. Bulla ASAP. Rather than wait for his call I immediatley went up to his office. Unfortunately our conversation was most uncomfortable. Mr. Bulla, of course told me he had informed me of this service fee. I told him that he certainly had not because if he had, he would have had the $98.00 and I would have my $! He insisted that he had told me..which I very defensively construed as him calling me A LIAR! He told me that it was his job to inform me of this and quickly responded to him that it was my job to pay him $98.oo! Furthermore I could not understand why I had not received any further communication regarding this matter. The answer to that was that he had written a memo on my file to say that I would be in with the $ on Mar. 3. I did take his $ in on Mar. 3..the $35.00 adjustment fee..the ONLY $ he requested! Mr. Bulla commenced at our meeting to say "What do u want..do u want me to apologise?" I replied "I don't care what u have to say, I just want u to know I will never set foot in this door again! It is my complaint that as a customer I should not have been spoken to in this very rude manner & certainly do not appreciate being called a LIAR! I had dealt with H&R Block in Hlfx, N.S. for 5-6 yrs & never had a problem, but now they have lost my business as I WILL NOT TOLERATE BEING TREATED IN THIS MANNER! I believe that he may have thought he relayed this message to me but a mistake was made..I do not have a problem with anyone making a mistake, but will not understand his treatment to a business client! Thank-you for your time. Shirley J. Finnie

H&R Block / HRB Digital phony & refund check

I had my taxes done at H & R Block and was told I will be getting a refund check in the mail. I waited for 7 days and told I had to wait another 7 to 14 days. Finally, my check was ready to pick up, but when I went into the office, I was told there is a problem with the check, but the employee still signed the check and gave it to me. I took the check to my bank and cashed it. Now, when my bank tried to collect their payment on the check, they were told there is "no account on file." The refund check was drawn from HSBC bank. Now I am in the "red" with my checking account at my bank. I went to H&R Block, but the employee keeps telling me that he will check on it, but in the meantime I am "overdrawn" at the bank and I am being charged overdrawn fees. My bank says that it is not my fault, but I am being charged fees in the meantime. My bank tried to research on this "phony" refund check, but they were told it is none of their business. I am in the middle of this situation and what am I supposed to do. I feel like I am being "ignored" and discriminated against due to my race. Will I ever get another refund check to cover for their "phony" check, since it is my refund check.

mrshlsbabe1: Your credit score is fine, but in the current environment many lenders have
tightened up on lending. HSBC is not obligated to lend to you based on your FICO score.
As with any consumer loan, the bank can and will deny people at their discretion. H&R Block
can do nothing to change their decision. It is not odd that they didn't give you the reason for the denial. That is standard industry practice for banks. They will as you indicated send you a
written reason for denial. HSBC can not give you "the option of letting the IRS send us our money" as it has already been received by IRS and is out of their hands. The only thing that you can do is wait and see if the IRS forwards your refund to HSBC, at which point they will forward it to you less the tax prep fee and refund accounting fee. HSBC didn't make a loan in your case, so there will not be a finance charge. If you had paid for preparation up front as I encourage everyone to do you could have cut HSBC out of the loop. HSBC by offering the Refund Anticipation Check and the Refund Anticipation Loan enables millions of people to file their returns without having to pay up front for tax preparation. Now I understand you think that is "nothing" but for millions of people it is invaluable.

i am having a problem right now with H&R Block, my husband and i filed our 2009 taxes, we were asked if we wanted the RAL, with HSBC bank loan, we signed the papers, said we would receive our money in 1 to 2 days, then we were told that HSBC denied us, we ask why? our preparer said that it was kinda odd, they gave no reason, i then went on line to find out why HSBC denied us, we found out online this bank said that we dont meet their credit criteria, i was very angry, my credit score is 828, my husband is 798 we have excellant credit, we then went back down to H&R Block and told them exactly that, and were told there is nothing they can do, all i know is this HSBC will not release our check till they receive it from the IRS, so we are paying all this money to H&R Block, and another amount to HSBC, and we are only getting back 1330.00, HSBC also told us we would have to wait to receive a letter from them that will be in about 7 to 10 days to give us the reasons that they denied us, this is outrageous, they should have just giving us the option of letting the IRS send us our money then, instead they are going to be the middleman, we could have avoided this whole mess and just received our money the electronited way, but HSBC wants to make money for doing nothing, and H&R Block is making their money, next year i will know better

I had the same problem and also I paid to get the check overnight ( the loan that you pay extra for to get your cash quick) but low and behold it took them 8 days to get it to me plus I still paid over $150 to get it quick. Then to top it off it was a bogus check that took 6 weeks to get the right check. They still will not refund my "quick" fees but they had to pay all the fees at the bank!
Also this happens with people of all races ...so don't try to play the race card...with a black president, race is no longer an issue. time to live in the present.

Your bank is right that their hands are tied on the situation. What you need to do is go higher up the corporate ladder at H&R Block. If you make a big enough stink about the situation they'll be forced to right the wrong.

You'd mentioned living in Kansas for about 3 years, so I am assuming from your wording this is the third time you've had your taxes prepared by this particular H&R Block. If they messed up *my* taxes the first two times, common sense would've kicked in and I sure as hell wouldn't have gone back for a third time - but hey, that's just me.

While it is partially "Becky's" fault for entering the wrong SSN, it is also partially your fault as well for not checking over the paperwork before signing.

I agree! We had a appointment in the Clinton Iowa office when we got there the office was full and told us that they were 2 hours behind. They sent us to the walmart kiosk to have them done. We get out there and the 2 girls that worked had no clue what to do. They changed in the middle of preparing our taxes and then preceded to tell us that the Internet was down. After wasting 2 hours of our time they told us to come back tomorrow...WTH! They are a joke!

H&R Block / HRB Digital emerald green card

I went to h & r block in january to get an early refund as my heat had gone out in sub-teen temps and I had to get my heater fixed. I was told about the emerald green card and thought this would be a good idea to get my money so I could get my heat back on. This was the biggest and most costly mistake I have ever made! I was charged everytime I ever called the emerald green card phone line. You call to question their mistakes and they charge you. I went to my h & r block agent that filed my taxes for me and she has done all she can to help me out. I paid alot of money to get my taxes done early and now I am still paying back money for some bogus explanation that makes no sense to me! I hate to call because they will keep taking on charges to my card. Whatever you do, if you are in a bind money wise, do not use the emerald green card that h & r block suggest. You will end up in more trouble than you were in when you started. I will continue to use h & r block, as they have tried to help me, but I will never go with the emerald green card plan again, and I beg you to not use them either!

Ten Year Tax Pro...you are wrong, efiled online with H&R block website and chose the emerald green card to receive my refund on. At the end it stated that I did not qualify and made me choose another option. You can be denied the card!

sounds like that corrupt attorney William (Dollar Bill) Brenner and William Brent Healey that operate in Grahamsvill NY as they charge crazy fees and always get their clients audited. Then when the clients come in with the IRS notice Brenner and Healey tell them to hire an attorney. So if you want your taxes done in Sullivan, Orange and Ulster County NY don't use Brenner Income Tax unless you want to get audited .But if you do go consider what you pay as tickets to the circus to see the world's fatest two slobs in the world as these two are real fat..I mean if you hosed them down and rolled them in flour you still could not find their pee pee..

You cannot be denied an Emerald Card. You *CAN* be denied the RAL by HSBC Bank if you have issues on your credit. Recall, a credit check is just part of the process and the one clients focus on should they be rejected. You can also pay late on your bills, but not have it show up on your credit history, and be rejected. For more on that, see Citigroup and what they do to you should you miss by 1 day a payment.

Plus, if your return is held for processing, then you can be out the fees for the RAL/RAC, the $29.95 bank product charge, and tax prep if that "processing" consumes your entire refund.

H & R Block Bank issues the Emerald Cards. HSBC Banks issues the RAL/RAC products. Any questions?

I wanted to clear confusion on the refund process. What people don't understand is that HR Block is only to prepare and send returns to taxing authorities. They are the middle man for LOANS. Yes LOANS is capitalized because note: THE IRS DOES NOT SEND ANYBODY MONEY IN 24HOURS OR IN 1-2 DAYS. CHECK THE IRS WEBSITE - NORMAL PROCESSING TIME IS 8-15 DAYS. Ok, so you goto HR block, have your return prepared and then you are told a fee. YOU CAN ALWAYS PAY YOUR FEES UPFRONT AND OUT OF POCKET (CASH, CHECK, OR CHARGE) OR you can decide to pay additional fees to have the cost deducted from your ANTICIPATED refund. Now I say anticipated since just because the IRS says 8-15 days, that's normal processing time and ITS NOT A GUARANTEE! The tax preparer doesn't know if you owe back taxes, child support, student loans, are being sued by a credit card company (state refunds only) or if you are selected for an audit or review of credits/deductions that you are claiming. NO TAX PREPARER CAN GUARANTEE YOU A REFUND, they go by the information that they are given. GARBAGE IN IS GARBAGE OUT. Ok, so you apply for a loan, you get charged a loan fee. Now because you are applying for a loan you sign a boat load of documents, have your identity verified and so and so. I wonder DO YOU TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE DOCUMENTS THAT YOU ARE SIGNING. You can't honestly say that you couldn't read them because even if someone was rushing you to sign that should be your que to STOP. But still you continue on cause we all got a sad story on why we need our money, even though we waited 364 days to get it. This is getting long so to wrap up my original point: If you have a problem with TAX PREPARATION AND FEES, complain to HR Block. If you have a problem with why you couldn't get INSTANT MONEY OR ANY KIND OF LOAN, complain to HSBC. If you have complaints about EMERALD CARD FEES, NOT ABLE TO GET MONEY OFF OF CARD, RETURN CREDIT DELAYS, complain to HR BLOCK BANK. Note HR Block & HR Block Bank are 2 different entities. One prepares taxes and one is well it's a virtual bank. THE END. I WOULD LOVE ANY AND ALL COMMENTS.

I was denied an Emerald Card with a credit score of above 730 which is rated as excellent. My other 2 scores were well above 700. This summer one of the Bureau scores was above 800 based on 30 years of good credit and a 57 page credit report. HR Block has no answers. HSBC is not listed on the Emerald Card-- but that is the company that HR BLock tells you to call. The buck should stop at the name of the company on the card-HR BLOCK. It is the classic round around "shell game" scheme-"U need to call HR Block"--"no you need to call HSBC"--"no you need to call the IRS." HR Block was surprised that I was denied with such a high score--which I faxed to them. There have been numerous class action lawsuits against HR BLOCK RAL's--California, Chicargo, and West Virginia. According a Harvard Business School Report --up to 12 class action suits--for high usuary interest fees-- but that may be the least of the customer's problems--according to online complaints of charges for calling "toll free" line to find out about your refund. According to online complaints-- HSBC checks that bounce. Lost refunds--have to have the IRS trace the refund which seems to take weeks or months. Endless attempts at trying to verify your idenity--some customer's said they went back to their local office with 3 picture ID"s and HSBC still refused to verify identity even after an HR BLock worker called verifying the customer's idenity. Of course one can't believe everything written on-line but one site has 45 pages of complaints and another site has a high volume of complaints as well as negative newspaper and magazine articles.

As a 10 year tax pro that works for the company, I can say that the smartest things customers can do is to set up a checking or savings account and utilize THAT account as the destination for whatever refund (federal or state(s)) they are due to receive once their taxes are calculated. Oh, and if it were a savings account, I'd also suggest they treat it as a Christmas Club account and set aside a little each pay period so as to be able to withdraw that $$$ and pay the H & R Block fees up front.

The Emerald Card does not have an upfront charge, but it has a whole host of potential charges, depending on how the customer wants to use the card.

I would also like to strongly advise against the Emerald Green Card. We were told we would save money by taking the card versus a rapid refund check. We were told it could be used as a debit card. What a farce! We were charged a $3 fee for each transaction plus $1.95 service charge. We had also used the card to reserve a hotel room. We decided to pay cash for the hotel room so they said they would run a credit immediately. The Green Card would not apply the credit for three to four weeks. Try to call their customer service number and talk to a real person - impossible! And, when you do talk to a real person, of course, they don't have any answers! Also, approximately 8 weeks after we filed with H&R Block we received a notice from the IRS stating that not all our W-2's were enclosed with our return and our signatures were not on the return. We returned to the H&R office where we had our return done and showed them the IRS notice. We did not receive any kind of apology. They did not even offer to mail the needed items back to the IRS. H&R Block - never again

I live in Houston, Tx and have had my taxes done by hrblock for years; I always get about the same amount of money back every year. So this yr when I was approached about the "Emerald" card advance I excepted the $500.00 bucks because the "estimated" amount that I was to get was based on my last check stub; the same amount on my W-2. The prepairer said I'd get around $2400.00 back But when my W-2 came in he claims that not only was I not getting back the $2400.00 but the $500.00 advance I had to pay back plus the interest that it had accured and now he say's by the way you also owe the IRS $49.00? I was pissed! I will pay the IRS; but not only will I NEVER have my taxes done by hrblock again, I will also NEVER pay them back!

H&R Block / HRB Digital emerald card

No matter how badly you may need the money never use the hr block tax refund advance-the emerald card. You will not be advised of all the charges you could incur and the charges they do tel you will not reflect the correct amounts. You will not be advised of the payoff procedures.
Facing a financial jam, I obtained an refund advance from hr block-the emeral card. I spent an hour at the initial visit as the procedure was "new" to the reps. I should have known then. I had to return to the office and at that visit was given "corrected" info about fees etc. I made the comment at that point " I wish I had never done this and am going to regret it. " regret it, I have... Many times over.
When time came to payoff, I called in for the $amount. I made that initial call on 2/23, mailed in a money order for the amount given. As of this date, I have yet to pay it off due to an error on the hr block employee part. After 5 calls I am still recieving a bill for $14.56. Although in dispute I am told it will continue to accrue interest at 36% and although a hr block error it will not be waived.
My advice: never even consider this. It was not worth the $300 I received from them to ever do this again. The only comfort I take is that I did not pay them $100 to do my taxes and withhold the advance. I can only imagine how that would have turned out.

My wife and I have used H&R Block for 21 years. I have always sent people to
HR Block warn them that it would be unwise to trust anyone else with tax preparation. Now the very foundation of the trust I have in H&R Block has been compromised. I heard a radio commercial, "why wait for your W2s, bring in your last paycheck stub and H&R Block will get you a loan that you can payoff when we do your taxes. It was trust the H&R Block name that led me to go for the Emerald. I brought in my W-2, told the lady that I always file jointly and that my wife made $19K. Your rep asked me the usual questions and enter the data into your impressive software. After your rep had completed her computations, she told me that my wife and I would have a $5800+ refund and that I could get $1000 right away, through the Emerald deal. I am always surprised at the size of refunds H&R Block computes. So I went for the Emerald and agreed to its term, all based on the premise that I had a $5800 refund coming. When we got our W2s, we went to H&R Block to file, only this time we were told our refund would be only $600. I was dumbfounded. We elected to not to use H&R Block. No one loathes the term "predatory lending" as much as I. What is it when a bank lends money when they know know the borrower cannot pay it back. What is it a bank lends money based on false anticipated income. Well I owe Emerald $1000 and I want to pay it, but I can't pay it as agreed, for obvious reasons. PLEASE modify my loan and have your collections people cease and desist, I simply cannot afford their payment plan nor can have this ordeal affect my credit.
The family attorney thinks that I should let various government and regulatory agencies vet this matter. H&R Block has been very good to me for a long time and I trust.

H&R Block / HRB Digital errors on taxes and fees too high!

Me and my fiance both had our taxes done at h&r block this year. They weren't too terribly complicated but our filing fees turned out to be $249 and $285! We are single and make under $60K per year! Also, they both had errors on them. We received letters from the IRS that they were adjusting our refunds due to miscalculations on the part of our preparer! In addition to that, I filed mine electronically which was an additional $30, my fiance mailed his. He received his check in exactly 15 days and I am still waiting! We will NEVER use H&R Block again and urge others not to either. Next year we will use turbo tax and do it ourselves!

Why were your returns adjusted? Were you subject to a refund offset? That would explain the delay in your receiving your refund. H&R Block has no control over that.

Your fees are not based on your filing status or on your income level.

They are based on the complexity of your return.

You were not charged an additional $30 for e-filing. The extra $30 was because your boyfriend paid H&R Block up front, while you elected to have your preparation fee withheld.
HSBC charges you for that service. I always encourage people to pay upfront. It is cheaper and there is one entity less between the client and his/her refund, but roughly half of H&R Block's clients can't manage their money, and frankly would not be able to file were it not for HSBC.

Turbo Tax is a great program, but it assumes a certain level of knowledge especially when you have more than a simple 1040EZ return. My best clients are the ones that "do it ourselves", then a couple years latter get an IRS letter audit demanding back taxes, penalty and interest.

Good Luck!

H&R Block / HRB Digital horrible business & service

I went to H & R Block last night 3/26/09 to have my taxes done. There was a mistake on the tax return that could have easily caused me to be audited. The tax preparer, William Conklin couldn't find the page the mistake was on even when I kept saying page 2. I was charged over $300.00 for this service and I only made $15, 000 in 2008. The tax fees were not stated up front. Mr. Conklin said that the company never tells people the cost up front unless they ask. I told him it was obscene to pay this much money when the work was so poorly done. I told him I did not want to go with his service within 24 hours and he said it was to late and the tax return had already been filed. I asked for a complaint/costumer service number and he gave me a wrong number. I'm sure there are some state laws that could help me and others against such a fraudulent business practices. Don't go to H & R Block!

My husband filed our 2008 taxes with H and R Block. In April of this year we received a tax due letter from the IRS stating that we owed $6000.00 dollars for 2008, because we did not report earnings and interest. We knew this was wrong. He went back to H & R Block to inform this of this omission. We they all of our interest and earnings, the tax person did not include this with our info (filed electronically). He was informed that person had already been fired (not fast enough for us). However, we were instructed that we should take a letter from their company, but pay the taxes to avoid penalties. The representative said that she would help us get all or some of the $6000. back. Needless to say the company did not agree with her and we received $1400.00 a drop in the bucket for their mistake. They really do not honor what they advertise. If in fact their company trains all of their contracted employees as they claim, it must be a hit and a miss. We have not heard from the IRS as of yet, but they did receive our letter and check.
We are both retired and have always paid our taxes, city, state, and federal without any issues. This is also a personal affront to have a letter from the IRS, after a year of filing, to say that you owe so much money. I feel personally violated by H&R Block.

I went to have my taxes done today and am VERY disappointed with the service. I am not sure if my taxes were prepared by a tax specialist or the receptionist, as every time the phone rang, or someone walked into the office, she stopped helping me and answered the phone, took messages for other preparers that were with clients, or greeted incoming customers. The really disappointing fact was that I had multiple withdrawals from an IRA, for housing and medical, which involved penalties, and I was told that "the program will only allow me to enter one or the other penalty deduction", and I had to show the preparer how to enter them both, as the program was similar to the Tax Act program I usually use. For the money that they charge (in my case $480.00) the client should get full attention from a preparer, that is familiar with the program they are using.‎

H&R Block / HRB Digital terrible company

TaxCut Premium Federal + State + e-file 2008 software advertising and packaging implies that e-filing is included for both federal and state returns.

TaxCut Premium Federal + State + e-file 2007 software DID include free e-filing for both federal and state returns.

The name is the same for 2008 but no state e-filing is included. Apparently it says this on the fine print on the box, but many people including myself download it from various retailers. This is also the fault of TaxCut retailers who don't point out the fact that state e-file is no longer included.

I discussed this with their live chat support and they said they have NO product that includes state e-filing. It is rather deceptive to call it the same thing, charge the same price, say 'free e-file' on their site, but not include state e-filing.

H&R Block / HRB Digital the emerald card

The Emerald Card has had my money in pending limbo for over 9 days now I canceled my order with the apple company 9 days ago I called with a customer service representative to the emerald card customer service they were rude and snippy with both of us telling us that the apple company had to fax over a stop form of some sort to them which my apple customer service person said they never ever had to do for any other card ever. They said if nothing was faxed then I wouldn't be getting my pending transaction money back for over 20 days! I will never use H&R Block again. My customer service representative from apple had something faxed over to them for me. My customer service representative from the emerald card charged me a 2.00 fee and didn't help me at all. Apparently I'm now supposed to have my money back on the card in 2 days but I'm not holding my breath. Don't use H&R Block and if you do for god's sake don't use the Emerald Card...

H&R Block / HRB Digital unprofessional and bad experience

I went to get my taxes done at H&R Block for first time on my birthday January 23, 2009 I will never do it again. They would not let me claim my rent, Union dues, And some other things. So therefore they were only getting me about 1700 dollars for my return. I told them to cancel my return and I will get my taxes done elsewhere, They said that I can't cancel my return it has already been filed. I called the IRS and they told me I had 72 hours to cancel, I called Back and told Mel Oswald what the IRS had told me and he stated he didn't give a ### about the IRS, Then Mel Oswald stated that before he would cancel my return I had to pay them 40 dollars for there time. I had to go back and forth to this office 6 times, What about my time going back and forth and making phone calls to them and the IRS. I filed a complaint with the corporate office, They stated that a district manager will contact me within a few days. While waiting for DM to contact me, The H&R Block Office I filed complaint about called my cell phone numerous times screaming at me asking me what my problem was and what am I trying to do get a free return. I followed up on my complaint several times to see why District manager hasn't called me yet. I got my taxes done elsewhere and I got 3200 Dollars back. Almost 2 months later the District Manager finally contacted me.

H&R Block / HRB Digital defective software

The Iowa Download form if you choose Federa Married Filing Seperately, and itemize your deductions, the return will be in error - in my case it told me to pay $1000 more for each of my return and my spouses return...

They insist their software is not defective as it contains a hidden workaround - (only if you know enough to ask... and spend hours on the phone)

I could not efile for my new york state return because I had my new baby last year and number of exemption changed. system could not detect any errors when you run error checks. After you sent data to IRS they gave you errors and now HR Block is saying I need to file manually. How awful that software is. I will never use HR Tax Cut Software again. May be I should join the group to sue HR block. There was a horrifble experience with their customer service.

They also make it very difficult to use the free efile feature. You need to find a code they supposedly send you via email. I could not find it after wasting an hour searching. I've been using TaxCut since 2005. Between the $50 for the Fed return, $30 for the New York form and 1 hour wasted looking for the code for the "free" efile, I will just go to a local accountant next year. It will be worth the $150. I wound up having to print out and mail.

Also I am growing concerned that answering any question wrong can wind up in owing more taxes. And the explanations for alot of the questions are no more clear than on the Fed forms.

The way they try to nickel and dime their customers really has crossed the line. Never again. Another case of greed ruining what could have been a good product.

H&R Block / HRB Digital ripped off by emerald card

On feb the 15 of 2017, I used my emerald card to get my first withdrawl out a atm located in williamstown ky, on hwy 36. So when I pushed in a large amount of 200.00 I got no money but it was takin off of balance. A tech. Was there workin on the atm the time and promised me it would work then says oh it will be back on there by midnight. So at that time I got the number off of atm and made a immediate phone call to the bank. The bank was closed. So I left a few messages. No response after that, I called and spoke with the women who takes care of this and she begins to tell me how it was already put back on h&r block s bank. So it should be on my card and to contact the irs. Which I did and they told me a few days turned into almost a month later. I am really upset bc that money is mine. I worked hard for it and I know need that money. So next year and from now out I will not go through h&r block ever again. The card also has hidden fees and charges to use it. I was very dissapointed with this run around and im still waiting on. I think im writing obama about this.

My husband is in construction and one of his friends recommended us to a tax preparer that works for H and R block on durango at the rhodes ranch shoping center. My husband's friend told him that you give the prepare all your receipts and they do all the calculations and advise you on what you should do to prepare yourself for next years tax. Well, we went there with all our information. I mean everything because I kept every single receipt we had. I just didn't know what was tax deductible so I kept everything in order, we always used a friend to do our taxes before and we depended on that friend so much that we never really new much about taxes. This year we decided to use H and R block to see if they could help us more by letting us know what is really deductible and what we should do to maximize our returns. My husband also worked in another state and had information there too so I wasn't sure how to do our taxes, so we decided to give H and R block a try.

Well, let me tell you that H and R block is a total scam, first that lady really didn't do anything for us, she told us to calculate everything ourselves and then give her the numbers, and the worst part is she didn't tell us anything about taxes. We had some medical expenses that we wanted to know if it was deductible and she couldn't tell us if it was or not. We had so many questions and all she could tell us was that we had to do our own calculations and all she does is enter it in. Huh, she charged us $340.00 and then told me to learn from her and become a tax preparer. FOr $140.00 I could learn from her, wow the nerve of her. She told me that maybe next year I wouldn't have to pay and that I could do it all on my own. So I went home and went on to turbo tax for the federal tax and entered in all the numbers I calculated myelf, and guess what? Yah, I got the same return for FREE! Yes, H and R block is a scam. DOn't go to them. Seriously turbo tax is free! Let just say that I may have lost some money in this but I learned a very valuable lesson, NEVER go to that H and R block AGAIN!

I got our taxes done at H and R Block in 2017 for the 2017 tax year...I went to pick up my envelope as usual after my taxes were done paid over 100.00 to have them done...
I am filing my taxes now and need my information from 2017 and go and pull out our tax return and I HAVE ANOTHER PERSON RETURN IN OUR ENVELOPE. Now I have this persons SS#..bank account number and everything about him...And I am wondering who has mine...THIS IS OUTRAGOUS. Now that I reported it I have to wait another 5 days for a district manager to call me back and then they want to charge me 20.00 for a copy of my damn return...I have not told my husband yet due to he is in Iraq and is going to flip when he hears this and that someone could be out there using our information...I want to report this to someone because now I am sure my husband is going to want to close banks and so forth..but we can't just change our SS#'s...and this poor guy I have his information and I am going to try and contact him and assure him it is safe but he should know we have his return as well don't you think...If anyone knows who I should report this too please email me happy98329@yahoo.com...I am pissed off beyond belief right now...needless to say I WILL NEVER EVER USE THEM AGAIN...LOST OUR BUSINESS FOREVER.

I have dealt with these ppl, b/c like most of us, I was desperate! For 4 yrs they have raised their fees, but b/c I need the xmas money, I go thru with it. I did it again, so now I owe them the $900 I borrowed, but now, after many yrs as a LOYAL customer, I'm hearing that there is no RAL! And it is now close to $400 to FINISH the process, and it STILL takes 14 days! The same as if I did it myself, for $40!If these ppl think I'm doing my taxes there, they are CRAZY, they claim they arent making enough PROFIT to continue w. the RAL, HA what a joke! I know I owe the $ but I will not be stupid again, I am going elsewhere to file my taxes, they are not getting the $900 back! I am sure they will come after me next yr, but I cant see myself going there, even if in the long run I will have to pay.I didnt mind being screwed if I got my $ in a few minutes, but to wait 2-3 weeks, at THAT price, they are immoral, and they deserve for NONE of us to return! We must all go elsewhere, and put their ### out of business, but then I'm sure they will get a bail-out from the gov't! I'm SICK of big businesses screwing over us little people! We must stand up for ourselves!

Well first why would you call the IRS? That has nothing to do with the bank that owns the atm? Did you speak th HRB's disputes dept. If you read the terms and agreement of the card ( just like any card) there are no hidden fee's. You just were simply a irresponsible adult who didn't read before you used. AND If you saw a person that was there fixing the ATM why would you use it? Duh common sense! When you dispute a transaction of course it will take time for the any bank to put it back to your account. They of course are going to do their research to figure out if in fact the funds are yours band belong back in your account. There is such thing in this world that is called FRAUD!

Evelyn F:Did you get this resolved with your District Manager? What you described is outrageous and should never have happened. I am shocked that someone tried to charge you another $20 for a copy of your return. If I were you, I would demand that the District Manager pay your expenses for credit bureau monitoring for the next 12 months. Obviously he/she should refund this year's tax prep fee. Do not surrender the other person's return that you received until H&R Block has done at least this much for you. They owe you at least that much. If your District Manager is less than cooperative, report back here and I will try to get you the names and numbers of the next couple of guys up the corporate ladder. Everyone makes mistakes. It's how a company responds after the mistake that makes the difference. I hope this gets resolved to your satisfaction.

Integrity123: Are you saying you want to sue because the folder was in spanish? Hang on a second...ok I have stopped laughing now. One of these days, maybe after health care is passed we can get tort reform. When people like you start paying attorney fees to the other side when you lose these frivolous cases, maybe you will quit wasting the court's time.

Put in a complaint to the Attorney General of your State and also report it to the IRS compliance division.

I would also go to your local news channel and report it to the "SHAME ON YOU" team! and your local newspapers.

I went once and never again. At H&R Block, employees are not trained, and this is due to lack of madetory UNPAID training. They don't care...I'm very surprised the number of people that go to H&R Block...it's as sitting down on your computer at home and do your own taxes on Turbo tax.

Note I live in the United States of America and when I walked in to H&R Block the tax person that did my tax return said sorry because they only had "spanish" written folder for all clients. They ran out...Note it's tax season and you run out of english written folders?

This would be a nice lawsuit...I'm thinking about it and have 180 days.
