Recieved check in the mail and said I had been selected for a 5k grant, first payment of 928 was sent all I had to do was buy a greendot visa card and send linda spaulding a commission of 1.5 or 75 dollars but not to activate the card.

We received a check today, basically all the same stuff as everyone else. Mine says Key Services Corp, but the address is 9090 Carousel Dr Syracuse, NY 13290. Funny how the address is different from some of the others people have received! I could use that money, too! Really sad how these people can smell out the ones that really need it, too! Mine has the correct date though, but all else seems pretty consitent. I did also notice on the information for receiving the reminder of the "grant" that there were several misspelled words! That was a pretty big red flag to me! I think a corporation would have spell check on their computers! Especially one that is offering grants! Thanks to everyone for making me see that this wasn't real. I had a little idea, but one can always hope, ya know?! Thanks again! Hope these guys are stopped soon! It is definately too tempting!

Well it looks like these poeople are at it agin, I received a letter today from a Kate Hennessey, First Red flag name sounds crazy, the date on the check is 01-19-2010 2nd red flag, it's [protected]), No watermark on the check 3rd red Flag. And it looks as if the whole letter in off center. This kind of stuff has to stop and we need to find these people and shut them Down. Also I don't know where they mailed this from there was no postmark on the outside of this letter. Also I will contact greendot since they are using their name this is just sad to me. People get taken every day and to try and get away with this kind of stuff is just sad. I own a business and this came in the name of my business and trust me I could have used $10, 000 but I will not be a sucker for nobody! And by any chance that you [censor] holes will read this you will get caught and I hope that when you go to jail that some tall man name killer [censor]s you in the [censor], you [censor]ing [censor]s!

Green Dot linda spaulding

I recieved a check from linda spaulding in the amount of $4869.00 and it said to cash or deposit it and to send her 10% using the green dot money pak. It actually looked pretty good. So I took it to cash it but they said that they don't cash official checks. So I decided to come home and do a little research and it's a good thing I did. Turns out it is most likely fake. Thanks to all who posted complaints. I also contacted the bank that was on thfront of the check to let them know what she was doing. We will see what they say...

I bought a Green Dot prepaid card this morning on my way to work and loaded 470.00 so I could call and make my car payment as I wouldn't be able to go physically because I work 16 hour shifts. I called to activate it and I was told they couldn't activate the card and corporate office was closed until Monday. After speaking to someone for 40 minutes I was told to call back in 2 hours and get a confirmation number of the funds loaded and that if it couldn't be done they would expedite my funds to me and I would have a check in 3-5 business days. So when I called back the woman was VERY rude and told me something completely different than the first lady and that it would take 9-12 business days and then she HUNG UP on me. I called back and was then told that they would issue me a refund and I would receive it in 3-5 business days. Thanks Green dot...I now have to hide my car until I receive my money and can make my car payment!

Green Dot Visa, I wanted to purchase a prepaid card for my use to apply cash to so that I don't have let my wife know what's in the wallet, so that it doesn't walk off (husbands you know what I am talking about). I purchased the card from a large chain store and went through the process of activation, with my SSN (didn't like that, should have know), then they tell me this a temporary card, WHAT? No store wanted to touch it, don't use it on-line, it took a few days to get the store to verify the card and it never did. So I canceled the order and was told if the VERY LARGE company faxed them something they would not accept it. And even if the money came back to the account (MY CASH) they could not release the funds for 11 DAYS. So now I don't have the equipment I need and I don't have access to my three hundred dollars as well. They said they will send me a check with a full refund once the eleven days has pasted and I call back to cancel the card. This is not a BANK card, this is a way of holding money so people forget about it so that they can charge there 6 dollars a month. Give a friend cash and order that way or just apply at a bank. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. I felt this other company I ordered products from was messing around, not the case, IT WAS THE GREEN DOT CARD THROWING UP RED FLAGS. I am contacting the major stores that carry this product and letting them know of the troubles I am having, I doubt anything will come of it, but at least you know, DON'T DO IT, TAKE IT BACK.

these ppl need to be reported. Write the Better Business Bureau in Georgia. Or file a proper complaint with the Ghost Company in California. Someone asked how to reach a real person on this card. when they come on and ask english or spanish do not press anything. When it asks the nature of your account press 1, then press 2, enter card # then enter zip code. listen to automation and press 3. This company will not cooperate with you to return your money in an orderly fashion. They are not an american company tho the main office is out of California. There is no one in California to talk to. I have had several supervisors hang up on me. To file a proper complaint, write Green Dot Visa, PO Box 1187, Monrovia, Ca, 91017.

its messed up that the problem occured in the first place. Next, forever to get your money back. i cant do business with this kinda co. Clay in Brooklyn

Indeed, GREEN DOT SUCKS ! Anyone that tries to do business with this company, you better hope you don't have any issues that require fixing by them or you may as well drop the soap now and get it over with ! The people that use these prepaid Visas are poor enough, never mind being raped by fees at every possible turn. What gets me is they actually have the gall to make you pay $4.95 every time you DEPOSIT money to your card with their so called, "Money Pac" ! Then there are the monthly usage fees, but wait, you could instead opt to pay a $1.00 fee for EVERY purchase you make. FU#@ ME !, They should be paying YOU $1.00 per purchase which is not too unlike what some REAL credit cards do. The completely automated customer service system is not what you'd ever expect from a firm that's handling peoples money. Not one option to speak to Customer Service on that list, let's try another sub-menu ... and another. Let's get real folks, how many questions that you actually have are answerable by these systems ? Maybe 1 in 20. It took me 30 minutes of Internet searches to finally find a real live, "talk to a person", phone number. I'm sure they routinely put customers on hold for 45 minutes like I was privileged to. I got bombarded with recorded ads for their latest schemes get more money into their greedy little interest bearing hands, (accounts). Finally, I got a real person after a seemingly ceaseless struggle to decipher a little bit of English from the Hindi dialect. I thought I had my problem solved. No dice ... I had to call back again! The good news is I found another prepaid called Serve.com American Express. They have a start up fee of $5 and that's it. So far they seem OK.

This company is a load of CRAP. I didn't even get past go with them. I gave them a LEGITIMATE address, which they said that they couldn't find. I was arguing with them as to what address to use and they INSISTED that they could not use my address. I was told that I would be transferred to another "specialist" whereby I was on hold for over 40 minutes! When I tried calling back and I entered my account number, I was told that the account was closed...ummmm...HELLO, YOU STILL HAVE MY MONEY...WHAT THE **@**? DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, IF THERE IS ANOTHER WAY, PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND RECONSIDER. I am absolutely disgusted!

BY THE WAY...you don't need to file a lawsuit first. I am also a paralegal. The bank that funds these cards (actually has all the money) is
Synovus Bank of Florida
[protected]
12450 Roosevelt Blvd N
St Petersburg FL 33716

I believe it to be the sister bank of Synovus Bank of Georgia
P.O. Box 120
Columbus, GA 31902
706.649.2311

There are many locations, but these are the primaries.

Now here is the deal, you have the option to file a complaint with the State Attorney Generals Office. The complaint will be forwarded to the bank. They are urged to come to a resolution with you. If they do not resolve the matter, the Attorney Generals office can do pretty much whatever they want to penalize the bank.

Banks and Mortgage Brokers

The Georgia Department of Banking and Finance regulates state-chartered banks and credit unions, residential mortgage brokers and lenders, check cashers and sellers, and money transmitters in Georgia . You can contact them on the web at http://dbf.georgia.gov, by phone at 770.986.1633 (tollfree 888.986.1633), or by mail to:

Georgia Department of Banking and Finance
Legal and Consumer Affairs
2990 Brandywine Road
Suite 200
Atlanta, Georgia [protected]

You can also try
Federal Trade Commission

The FTC is the federal agency charged with enforcing federal consumer protection laws that regulate the credit industry, and prevent fraud, deception and unfair business practices, including telemarketing fraud, Internet scams or price-fixing schemes. The FTC also enforces federal antitrust laws. For more information, click on http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/consumer.shtm.

Filing a complaint with these two entities will definitely get you results. The best part is, it wont cost you a dime. No attorney needed.

Good luck to you!

I bought a green dot credit card in August. I have used it with no problems since then consistently, until today. I tried to reload the card online and I guess the web site was down and it said to call it in to Customer Service. I called Customer Service number on back of card, and got a lady who spoke very bad English. I am not racist, being Latina myself, I can understand a thick accent. She was, I believe, not in the US. When I gave her the PIN number for my card, she told me it failed and that I have a bad PIN number! I said WHAT? She said sorry I cant give you any information, we are going to have to open a ticket to "investigate" it. So I asked her "Why buy these things then if they aren't going to work?" ...She then started to yell at me saying that they cannot help me and I have to wait and see what they find out, and it is most likely the Store's fault. I bought the damn thing at CVS and always have. Never until today did I have a problem. CVS even checks the cards to make sure they haven't been tampered with, so Kudo's to them. Green Dot however, hmmphh. So I tell this lady, wow, you work in customer service?!? You are very rude...(keep in mind she's yelling at me repeating whatever script she was told to read, and I am not easily intimidated), I was about to inform her that I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and the Attorney General's Office, when the lady says "I won't be able to help you, you are just going to have to call back, CLICK". She [censor]ing HUNG UP on me. I was not rude, nor did I swear, I didn't even use a tone, I asked a simple question, "Why purchase these cards if they won't work?". Simple. I am still asking myself this. She didn't even bother checking the card number again, which, it turns out, she got wrong! I called back and keyed the damn thing in myself and MAGICALLY *POOF* it worked! I don't know I got a customer service rep in the first place, their voicemail and website must have been down. LUCKY me.

I would not advise anyone who is in a BIND to use these cards from GreenDot. They just aren't worth it. You may not get your money back, because there is a terms of use and service, and they don't guarantee that you will get reimbursed anything.

Go to Walmart. They sell the same thing, only Walmart brand. Costs $5 to buy and $3 to reload. And Walmart isn't going anywhere. I would rather spend my money at Walmart and stimulate our local economy than spend it with a Company like Green Dot that is going to outsource their call centers to some third world country that does not like us, nor has an inkling what customer service is. Meanwhile Green Dot is probably paying THOSE poor angry [censor] $2 a day. No wonder they give such [censor] customer service. Chew on that. Good luck to you.

I tried to pay my Uncle back some money that I owed him and I used the Greendot load and gave it to him and he never got it. It gave him messages and from what the messages said it appeared as if it was unsuccessfull and it was unsuccessfull because he never got it but it was no longer on my card either and all they did was brush me off and said I could write a letter of complaint. I am waiting on a Supervisor to call me back now and its been 2 days and I was told to allow up to 72 hours for a call. We need to ban together and file in a U.S. Supreme Court against them. This is a horrible financial institution.

I Purchased a prepaid card, at the local Wallgreens In Sept 2009. I put 250 dollars on the card. I was able to spend approximately 75 dollars using the temporary card, issued, to pay a bill over the phone.
After that I never recieved the card,
and was unable to spend any more money using the temporary card. Green dot never mailed me the real card. And after finally getting ahold of them, two weeks later, they stated they had to report the card lost or stolen. Because I never recieved it. This went on for six weeks after the date I was suppose to recive the card. I finally asked for the remaining ballance back, in November 2009.
They said they would send a check call back in another two weeks if you don't recieve it. 3 weeks went by I never recieved the check. They said they would send me a check via Federal Express, but they would have to take the charges out of my remaining ballance which was down to 155.00 this was because I never put any money back on the card. But they would kindly wave the last $5.00 charge and put it towards the fed exp shipping. So I would be recieving a check for $150.00.
Needless to say I never recieved a tracking number, or a package from federal express. I have about given up. And will never use the Green dot service again. My story is not alone, I have talked to several people that have tried Greendot they all state the same thing. Money put on 1-2 charges allowed, after that nothing. The card never recieved, money never refunded.
I don't know how this company is still getting away with it.
I have been to the website recently, they do have an address up that is in Monrovia California,
So why is it everyone I talked to had a Canadian accent?

I want to complaint too.my name is simba eduardo.I am a student and found this greendot card for student at foodfor less and buy it for 5 dollars then put 60 dollars.when I try to register the card, I found up it you need to provide a social security number, and I do not understand why? because this card is a prepaye card.so they refuse to send me a personallized card but that my card was register.contracdition .what difference he make to have my card with a valued customer or my own name on it when both will be register.so I try then to use my card at walgreens for 20 box and they ask me a pin that I never receive from them.I call the customer services ! oh1 jesus I fail in answer robot machine, over and over but the problem is that just to put my card information, they say the zipcode that I am providing do not match with the one that they have on their record.i was mad.it was the simple zipcode 90017.so I put myself as I lost my card in option and refuse to enter any information ...so finally get transfer to a specialist on recorder. and he just inform me that my card can only buy item or pay online.what?
I ask a refund but he refuse to make it in process and inform me that they will send me a new card with my name and a pin with it.7 day pass already! nothing like you are waiting jesus and can not use your money.so I decide to pay my phone bill online.guest! what? decline.. decline..
try to buy item in walmart decline... decline... they I go online and guest ! what? all the 60 dollars done in 2 day.and no information avout how much they charge you the fee.
i have another visa card from all access, inter national bank when an item are decline they do not charge you because is a prepaye card.and sometime may be 1 dollars.so what difference of the regulation this colombus bank are follow.STEALER. yes, steal money to people.but me I am an business administration student for long time and field this in my family from my grand-father to my father then me.I will have my money pay in full.if you are in the same case... let be together and stop this STEALER to stop their business, so other can fail where we fail. 60 dollars plus 5 dollars to buy the card, plus taxe and I did not use my moneys so a total of 69 dollars who are a pay day of 3/4 working in a day.gone! like this!hummmm! Unfortunately, I have allowed myself to become a victim of Greendot Financial Svcs. I think they should change their Logo to "Meandot.con" . I have found it virtually impossible to reach anyone to resolve my problem. I activated my card as per the telephone instructions; however, online I am constantly informed that my card is not activated and/or that it needs to bee reactivated. Of course, I follow these instructions to find out that the activation code was activate in May 2007. Next I follow the emergency procedures and viedw my account; this also entails creating a new password. I follow this by trying to login with this recently submitted information only to find that once again my card has not been activated. The problems is that I have made purchases online on food deliveries that have cleared. What gives? Is there no one who actually protects American consumers? No wonder the economy is in the Crapper

My money disappeared and when I asked them for the Authorization Code to send it to the rightful company, the guy asked what is an authorization code. even the gas pump gives u an AC. Green Dot scams/fake checks

I signed up at GreenDotMail.com for an at home mailing job. The deal is they senmd you a paycheck right away to cover the shipping expenses. You send them a commission from it and the rest of the money, is yours to keep. I did all that was asked of me. I cashed the check at my bank and went right away to get envelopes, stamps, and the greendot moneyPAK. I sent the commission in and mailed everything out right away. A week and one day later, I look at my bank account and the damn company took back the check. Well, as my bank sayd: "the bank the check was written from, did not have the funds." So basically, I am losing money because they didn't have the funds. If they did not have the funds, then why was my check cashed by my bank and cleared. My bank- Bank Of America- did not seem to care too much. They basically told me that I can't do anything. I contacted the check fraud department of my bank and they told me that they would not let me file a claim and they could not help me to get my money back. They told me to contact the company. Here is the issue, the company only has an email address and mailing address. I sent a message to the email address, asking why they would do this to me and why the money that I worked hard for was taken back from me. You guessed it- no response. This is all a big SCAM! I will file a police report today, but our sheriffs' office or police department wont do anything. They will say that they will investigate the problem, but they wont. I am basically writting this to get the word out. I am now in debt $959.00, because of these people. It saddens me that the bank that I have been with for over 3 years did not care about one of there customers losing an amount of money like this because of a scam. I am not the only one that has been scammed by these people. My roommate was also scammed and some other people that I know in Arcadia have been scammed as well. Please get the word out, tell your story. THIS SITE IS SCAMMING PEOPLE AND TAKING THEIR MONEY. DO NOT TRUST THE SITE. THEY CHECKS ARE FAKE-FRAUDS!

how could you be upset at the bank because you were scammed? hmmm last time i was given a check before i worked was, well, never. clue number two should have been when your employer ask you to send THEM money, hmmm last time my employer ask me to give them money was, well, never. I understand being frustrated about the situation but i cant stand sob stories when its everones fault but your own.

I woke up this morning to find a charge on my account from Easy Saver for $14.95. Not knowing what it was about I called my bank they gave me an 800 number. Before I called I googled Easy Saver and this website came up. One of the other complaints had this #[protected]. I called it and they lady was nice explained that when I used my card for an Oriental Trading online purchase I used a coupon from the that activated the membership. I told I had no idea and had not agreed to it she said my money would be refunded in 5-7days.

When ever you use a coupon read the whole thing because they get all your information. Your address, phone number, and worse of all your credit card number!

This really makes me mad

Green Dot funds taken out, never received card

Purchased a Green Dot Mastercard/Visa for $109.95 April 2, 2009 and never received the card. I called today to report and was told my balance was $70.10. Asked for a refund and was given more hype.
How are these people getting away with this? After reading all of the complaints against them, why are they still in business?

Nelliesha,

I had the exact same experience and attitude about Green Dot as you expressed until I personally, and unexpectedly, experienced the same poor customer service and confiscatory freezing of funds that has been complained about by others on this website. For three years I used Green Dot regularly without any problems until one day I tried to reset my password and was frozen out of my account. I was told that the information I provided didn't match the information they had on file, but wouldn't explain what information was incorrect. I then experienced the same bait and switch delay that has caused many who have filed complaints here to just give up and abandon their funds to Green Dot's unjust enrichment. I have sent them copies of identification documents twice and, after more than two months, am still trying to get the security hold lifted on a balance of $350. Meanwhile, they earn interest on their deposits that are subject to their security holds and undoubtedly earn millions in revenues from funds that have been abandoned due to a customer service policy that seems designed to achieve exactly that result.

I have been using Green Dot Money Card since 2007. Since 2007 I have never once had a complaint nor have I had any issues with this company or my card. I have used it online to pay all my bills and shopping at local stores and malls. I have kept a perfect balance with them, never any overdrafts, no money missing, no false charges or theft. I must say I am very pleased with having used their card and service for 3 years now.
Thanks,

Green Dot the card company stole my social security number and refuses to finalize my attempt to obtain the service (to give me a card number)

this pre-paid credit card was to contain $50
it had to be paid in cash
when tried to register over the phone, i unwittingly provided my social security number
was forwarded to the activation clerk who told me their computer system was slow and to hang up and call back in 5 minutes
when i called back i was told there was a "bad french error, goodbye"
tried again and it happened again
i realized it was a scam
i would like my $50 back and my $9 activation fee refunded.

Green Dot alternative advice

Sorry for your regrets regarding purchasing Green Dot Cards or Money Pak but there is alternative way of loading funds into your accounts without purchasing the reloadable cards thru Drug Stores.
Visit Radio Shack to have the transaction completed electronically. No Money Pak Cards Are Necessary! Simply inform a radio shack rep of what you would like to do, give them your Green Dot Visa/MC & the monies, they will input the information into their computer system, issue you a receipt & viola it is done. You have to wait 20 mins for the process to finalize itself before making purchases but it's worth it. And yes this still cost $4.95 but it's very convienent compared to purchasing a Money Pak card from Grocery Stores & Drug Stores where in most cases the Money Pak cards are expired anyways.
Try that guys before giving up on Green Dot.

I am a very strong weightlifter. However, I am not stupid. I did use the side of a quarter, . Result? a pretty hole in the middle of the card.
I tried scratching very gently at first, but the covering felt like a one piece strip, not like a typical lottery card. I never had a problem with those. This is my first and LAST time with Green Dot Money Pak. Btw, I charged $290.00 US to it...

I am now in the process of looking for an alternative prepaid that can be used for int'l purchases, as well as domestic.
Greendot recently locked me out of accessing my funds for a few days, and it cost me. I was not given a reason. Customer service is a joke.
Not only that, but after paying $4.95 for the MoneyPak, you are still charged $5.95/mo service charge, and when you purchase internationally, you are charged a percentage by them. For me, it was $10 and change for a $379 purchase. THEY get that $$, not the merchant. I am searching for a replacement before they 'create' another fee. Any suggestions?

I hate Green Dot Money card! I try to place funds in my PayPal account, they wouldn't go through after several tries the Green Dot system indicated it would issue my a refund to my PayPal account. I just didn't get it if I wanted it to go to my PayPal account in the first place why refund it to the same account. I wait for it to show up it didn't! So I called Green Dot they said they sent it in a check and that it would take 7 to 10 days to receive. After waiting a full week I called Green Dot again and they said it was sent to the wrong address under the wrong name, now they expect me to fax them a copy my drivers license and SS number so they can send out another check which will take and additional 7 to 10 day. I'm PISSED Off, VERY PISSED OFF and never use this service again.

I bought a greendot money card and my money went into someone else's paypay. I was told there wasn't any money on my card. I finally got a costumer rep and they gave me a Id # and an 800 number to call. It was a phone sex number. I'm really upset at Wal-Mart for selling cards that are notsafe. It is fraud.

You're not suppose to "pull off" the strip... Its a scratch off area.
Take the side of a coin and gently rub off the metallic area, revealing the numbers.
You can and often do ruin the card if you pull off this scratch off area.

Green Dot shady business practices

Green Dot online seems like a good deal on the outside but once you sign up with them they say that it takes around 7 to 10 days to receive the card you can receive your card faster with rush service. I elected the rush service I was told it would be ship to me in two days, it actually took longer then the standard shipping rate for me actually to receive the card in hand. This is after I had to call back about and hassle the company on the fact they total screwed up the order and the fact that I ordered rush service. The person I talk to was a manager who said that he would re-send the card out and actually had the nerve to try and recharge me for the rush fee, I told him that he should refund the price of the shipping since they completely blew the shipping in-the first place, we had to compromises and I did not get a refund and he paid for the rush reshipping charge.

A host of smaller problems later I thought everything was ok I had made some deposits with a money pack and everything went good. I needed to move some money from one of my accounts and I noticed that Green Dot offered a ACH Transfer service so I thought this would be a straight forward process so I gathered all the important information and I sent my bank the information (Green Dot is extremely cryptic about how this process works). My bank processed the wire transfer and then I checked my Green Dot account and nothing I called Green Dot they said there had been no activity on my account and showed no income deposits. Then a Green Dot Supervisor named Michelle (Batch ID #4370) got on the phone and she and I called my bank and spoke with the branch manager who in turn told her, that the the wire has been completed and the money had been taking out of our customers account . Michelle verified with my banks branch manager the routing and account numbers used for the transfer after the verification see didn't know what was going on and asked me to wait until the next day to see if it clears. I told her that I needed to speak with another manager higher than her and then I asked for a area manager I was put on hold (It took them 30 to 40 minutes to find someone) once they they got back to me a Green Dot Customer Service Area Manager named Ann picked up the phone and proceeded to inform me that she was research the problem while I was on hold. She told me that all incoming wires needed to be received by (9) nine am and that mine was going into my account the following day I was not to happy about this considering it only takes (2) two hours to complete a wire transfer but anyway I knew where my money was.

The following day I went to the ATM to check my Green Dot Account and low and behold it was empty I promptly called Green Dot Customer Service and asked for Ann (this after I battle the phone system for 30 minutes). Ann was not available but an Green Dot Area Manager ( of what area I don't know he would not specify) a man named Edward proceed to tell me that he did not see any income transfers and that he was stuck and did not have any data to work with. I explained to him the situation and asked him where are my funds he could not give an answer when, I explained to him that a national bank, two sets of managers from two different banking intuitions acknowledge the fact that money has been moved from on place to another and, A Green Dot Customer Service Area Manager actually admitted that the funds were present at the Green Dot facilities the only thing he could say is don't want to give you wrong information but could you call back tomorrow and see if it has posted but I don't think it will I told him I would be making a complaint against there company with the U.S. Government.

Needless to say it is not worth it to purchase one of this cards for any reason your going to get screwed some how and it's just going to be a GIANT waste of time I don't even know if I am going to get my money back. SCREW GREEN DOT

Green Dot fake checks!

When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. This is even more proof of that saying. About 1 month & 1 week ago my cousin called me all excited about getting a check for $950 from GDE. She cashed her check, no problem, oddly enough she even checked with her Bank, which she was told it's a REAL check. My Fiance and I, who have a baby on the way, figured hey, let's try it! So we filled out the form, too. Yesterday he got his check for the amount of $2, 007.93. We figured hey, cool, we can catch up on some bills and put the rest to our wedding! That is until our Bank told us that the check is not only fake, BUT, US Bank (Which, if you've gotten checks from the "company" you know it's drawn on US bank!) and MoneyGram (Also listed on the check) no longer do business together. AND that the check number was cashed in 2003 BUT for a much smaller amount. Needless to say, we were very upset. I have never read any complaints about GreenDotMail.Com, guess I should have been searching for GDE all along. But, the bank also informed us that if we attempt to cash it that he would go to jail for a bad check, which we both find odd cause it's not really his fault, but, it's FL law, I suppose. We turned everything over to the police, since, thats what we asked to do. HOPEFULLY something gets figured out here. We'll see. But, I guess if you get a check less than 1, 000 it will be cashed? By WalMart or your bank! If it's over 1, 000, then forget even trying, you'll go to jail and the "company" GDE will just use your Social for whatever they'd like!

Green Dot fake check

On 04/24/09 I received a fake check for 2017.48. My bank verified it was a fake and went on the website and start pulling up all the complaints on this business. They said in the letter that it was a cash grant and to send green dot back 200.10 on a greendot card and fax it to them. I have reported it to the credit agencies but it would really be lovely if the authorities would catch up with these dishonest people. (Man can't see it all but GOD does and he knows you and you will be punished and most of the time your families too!)

Green Dot non manageable accounting

This stupid greendot crap is unbelievable. After purchasing a reloadable greendot visa and faxing all my personal info I never received my card. Then purchased a moneypak and went to load it an error pops up and tells me I will be getting a refund. Called the 1 800 number and they were extremely rude! I better get my refund within the 7-10 business days as they promised or I will make sure they lose a lot of customers. Warning! Do not purchase a greendot card! They will just screw up your money and your account not to mention half the merchants dont accept them! Thanks for reading my complaint.

I have had my greendot visa three years now and have never had a problem with it. I have never been refused by a merchant except to rent a car but that was because the rental car company did not except which they explained but I pay for hotels and gas and other merchants never a problem. I found that usually the way you approach people is the way they return attitude if you do have a problem and also read the terms of the agreement. Some times its the person loading the car or company. I always use Walmart .

Update.
I just got my refund check in the amount promised, $109.95. I logged in to check the card I already have. The amount of fees incurred is $7.21. So I don't think they would have declined to let me activate another card because I had a huge fee outstanding.

The supervisor told me on the phone last time that my SS# did not pass validation. So I'm inclined to believe they do some sort of secret credit check.
What I'm going to do now is reload the card I have and hoping it takes so I can place my online orders I wanted to do last week. What A pain in the dick. I could have had my orders delivered and in use by now.

Idaho, I've had Greendot visa AND mastercards for three years now and have NEVER had a merchant decline to take them!

Magicman, I have no idea why they would be claiming you have too many cards issued to you if you only have the one mastercard but if you never cancelled the mastercard and just stopped using it, you probably have accrued fees. It states is the TOS that there will be a $4.95 per month service fee. If you owe fees, that's probably where the problem lies.

As to Greendot using a 3rd party verifier, yeah they do. So do banks, anyone issueing credit of any kind (credit card, store shopping card, even your check-cashing card at the local grocery store) as well as many utilities companies.

Just makes your day knowing that, doesn't it?

Green Dot can't access money/use card/get a live cust. service rep

I just purchased a Walmart MoneyCard/Visa Prepaid Card last month as a gift, not realizing that the activation code is on the receipt. After reading the instructions on the outside of the prepaid card's packaging, I was under the impression that the card was ready to be used. However, when it was time to use the card for purchases, detailed activation instructions were found on the *inside* of the packaging, where you find that you need your receipt, which lists the activation code. If the instructions were on the outside, so many people wouldn't be in this run-around situation. ..or maybe that is that the point--letting people put money on a card that they'll never be able to use...eventually, the monthly finance charges will go to the company, so they'll have your money anyway.

The company is rather unreachable, even though they provide two customer service phone numbers and a mailing address. Live people do not man the customer service lines, nor is there a section to contact the customer service department on their site. If you do not have an activation code, the automated phone service is a bust (you can't get past the first step without the code). Pressing zero does not connect you to a live representative. Although Walmart can assist you in reprinting your receipt (with activation code), you need to provide the exact date of purchase, or the register number, or cashier, etc.

When your money is concerned, keeping customers at this distance is unacceptable.

Because thats what we are. my best friend stay at my house when I was on vacation. UNBENOST TO SHE and her son have a criminal past. He has been previously arrested for ID theft, she was a herion addict. They went into my personal files and stoled my information. Also, at this time they made a copy of my mailbox key. I know this is how they gained my account information. IN ADDITION, THEY ALLOWED SOMEONE OTHER THAN ME, (BUT NOT REALLY ME) TO GIVE WIRE INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS TRANSFER. MY SON IS 7). Per your corporate office this NEVER should have happened. Only the account holder is allowed to give instructions on money transfers. I sent a cc of my sons Birth cert. The police report stating the history of ID that..guess what they still dont want to give me my money...

This has got to be the most worthless thing purchased! You really can not do anything with this card. What it is I believe is extortion!. I bought a gift for my boyfriend, easnt correct scope for gun. Took back ...wouldn't give cash back with receipt mind you. They said they put back on my card. This was 141.00. Still not on my card! It will take 10 days! Why u automatically took it when I purchased you should automatically put back. Why should I have to wait for a multibillion dollar corporation to return my money?

I bought this card in December and it is now April 2016 I keep calling them and they keep saying they're sending me a card and they keep taking money off my card and never sending the card so when I call and ask them about receiving my card only thing they tell me is that they going to send me another one... the first time I called and complained about my card not coming they told me that somebody sent it back which I have a p.o.box and nobody sent it back so the next day there is my card but it already cancelled so I had to wait again but if they say that the card was sent back why was it in my mailbox I do not know what's going on but I'm getting frustrated and I think I've been patient long enough if there's anything I can do please let me know... it's been 5 months since I bought the card and still haven't been able to use the money that I put on the card

I bought one of these cards to pay for my school books. I registered it, and recieved my permanent card in the mail. When I tried to go online to check my balance and add more it wouldnt grant me access. Thank God I figured that out, I was going to have my social security direct deposited to the account! This card is a scam! there is no way of access it and there is no way of talking to a person about it! My card is now worthless, I am losing the money that I put on it, and there is no way to get it back! Another way that Walmart likes to screw with people because it can! And I thought that monopolies were illegal! I am now possibly going to have to drop out of school after recieving a grant to go, because I cant cover my books! I will never shop at Wal Mart again! That was the straw that broke the camels back!. We bought a set of dishes there once and they were all broke. The store took them back without a problem and gave the money back, but then put the broken set of dishes back on the shelf to sell again!

###ing thing sucks, as Bill O Reilly would say. OK for the temp card to make online purchases, but they require a social security number to send you the real, re-loadable card, how ###ing stupid, who would trust a retailer that hires bums and vends cheap Chinese products with their SS number? Not me. There are times when certain businesses deserve a fat, Size 14 steel-toed hiking boot up their ###. A word of warning, often i have had them charge my "monthly" maintenance fee more than 3 times over 10 days. Epic scam, I hope the lawsuit yall have going brings them to their knees.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER ! I tried to pay my storage fee on the storage co. website this morning .It told me the first time it did not go through. So I waited a while and went back to the storage's website and tried it a second time and it went through and gave me a confirnmation number. I check my balance on my Wal-mart money card and it told me that the transaction went through twice. I called customer service and the rep, Jackie, told me that it would take ten days to credit one of the transactions back to my card. I ended up being on the phone with the rep 30 min with her telling me that it will take 10 days to credit back to my card 3 more times. In this 30 min she put me on mute several times. I said " hello" several times and tot no response. ( I guess she thought I was going to hang up. But I have worked in customer service for over 30 years and I was ready to play her game.) The rep also put me on the music hold twice without asking me to hold. After the first thirty min with no progress I requested her supervisor. I had to wait another 30 min on hold for the supervisor, again with no proper updates from the rep. I had to ask her what we were waiting for. When the supervisor Cory finally came on the line she came me the same lines the rep did until I drilled her for more specific info. Then I was finally told that I should keep track with the storage company to when they collect the funds from my card to call them back and advise them, then it would take 2 bus days to credit back to my card. Then when I asked to be transferred to the customer service survey that they tell you in the beginning while being trasferred to cust. serv. rep, that she could not transfer to it. So I am posting this . Worst customer service ever . I will not being loading anymore money on this card !

Green Dot unauthorized billing

First, I know this is really long. OK, it's a novel, but my ordeal with this company has been ongoing for over a month now with no resolution.

On the night of March 6th 2009 my Green Dot Visa Debit card was stolen from my home. It was in my wallet, in a closed desk drawer in my Mother's bedroom in MY HOME at the time. The person who took it did not have direct access to my card but she was someone that I knew. I followed all of the rules on the following day when I realized my card had been taken. I contacted Green Dot first and had them cancel and flag the card as stolen. After the card was closed I wrote everything down and wrote out a statement for the Police as well as Green Dot.

The next morning I immediately contacted the police who came to my home and took my statement, gave me a police report number and then amazingly found and arrested one of the suspects and were able to find most of the merchandise that was purchased with my card. After all of this I wrote and mailed my statement for Green Dot. In the letter I explained exactly what had happened ending with the transactions and a total amount of money that was in dispute.

The now suspects (we found out the thief went and picked up two of her friends the day she went shopping with my card) had managed to spend well over $2, 200 before I was able to stop the card. Knowing I had to give them at least ten days legally for research I waited impatiently for nearly two weeks before I called Green Dot Customer Service. When I finally did call it had been 11 agonizing days and was told they had tried calling me (I never received ONE phone call from them) and the rep on the line said she could not tell me what the out come was because their Loss Management department had already left for the day. She went on to say that since they didn't reach me by phone they had mailed their response to me and I needed to wait for the mail to arrive and wouldn't give me any further information nor would they get a manager for me to speak with.

Angry I hung up the phone since this was the first time I had actually experienced any problems with them. I figured I was just upset and was trying to calm myself down.

The next day I did in fact receive their response to my transaction dispute. They said that they were rejecting my claim on the basis that my card was not in my possession. They went on to say that they read my statement as 'I had given my Mother authorization to use my card and told her she could use it.' Which totally was a warped rendition of my statement. At no time did I give anyone Authorization to use my card. I immediately called them only to be told the Loss Management team was gone, once again, and no matter what I had to send them any response in writing. They then went on to say I needed to call back the following day.

Do these people ever work was the first thought that went through my head at this time.

I hung up the phone and wrote a response letter to them demanding my money be returned to me and went in to further detail as to what had happened. Nearly two more weeks went by and I finally received a phone call from someone at Green Dot. However, this person was only calling me to respond to my BBB complaint. Not my response letter. She went on, in an extremely rude tone, to explain that it was not their responsibility and they would be denying my claim once again. Only this time they were changing their reason for denial. She said that their reason this time was simply because the card was not in my possession. Well this infuriated me and I went off on her. I yelled so loud I scared neighbors. I began questioning the denial reason. Asking her how they expect someone to keep a card in their possession if they are asleep and she couldn't explain herself. She kept repeating the same thing over and over again. Throughout this entire conversation I am throwing questions at her and one after another she continues to answer with 'because the card was not in your possession Green Dot...blah blah blah.' Never giving me a real/valid reason for denial. I finally hang up and nearly have an anxiety attack and pass out...literally. Wake up four hours later and call my attorney!

This all took place on Thursday April 2nd, 2009.

I am so upset Friday through Monday that I can't eat, sleep or work. I'm extremely worried about losing everything at this point. By this time it had been over a month and I was delinquent in paying my rent now two months, the electric and water was due not to mention all other bills and everything was about to be shut off. I had just received my next paycheck to the new card they sent me and opened and had just been able to pay my rent and the bills by the end of the day on Monday when I logged in to my account and BOOM! they had credited my account. I was so excited! Maybe they had received the OK to credit my account and they didn't want to call but noticed I had missed the call this time. So as of Tuesday I had my money and everything was good. I was changing companies though.

All of the happiness was stripped away by 8 p.m. however when I went to the ATM and my card was declined. I immediately called Green Dot and this time something different happened. The recording told me I had dialed the wrong number. It said the correct number was located on the back of my card...the number I had called. It then disconnected the call without further explanation. I immediately called back and this time used my old basic Gold Visa Debit card that I have with them and what'd you know...it worked. Well when I got a rep on the phone I gave them my Premier account number and questioned this phone issue and they brushed it aside and changed the subject and then went on to say I needed to speak with Loss Management but said, of course, they weren't in at that moment. I demanded a supervisor and was placed on hold multiple times for over an hour. Then some guy answered the phone saying he was with Loss Management but he couldn't help me. He said he had 'emailed' the person working my account and she would call me.

To this day I still have received no phone calls. I hung up and have called them numerous time over the past three days questioning them and no one can tell me why my account was closed. The most I've been told came from the Dispute Resolution person who gave my money back to me. She was really the only nice person and most informative. She said she had no clue why they were doing this to me. She said no notes were posted but she could see the call to close my account came from their legal department. Stating I had caused them a loss due to the fraud claim and they demanded that the Loss Management department close my account. She went on to say that what was strange was they closed my account for no reason and never gave instructions regarding my balance and because of this she couldn't do anything. She said that the Loss Management department is over her and they are the only ones who can send my money now.

The Dispute Resolution rep then forwarded me to the Loss Management rep's desk. Of course the person didn't pick up their phone. In fact the phone did what it had always done in the past...it hung up on me.

Since Monday when I spoke with the Dispute Resolution rep both me and others involved attempting to help me have called and spoken to them each time being told someone would call me and nothing else. I even had my attorney call today and after over an hour of being placed on hold we had at least been sent to a live person who said they were with the Loss Management team. However this person, like all of the rest, told us the person we needed to talk to wasn't there. This person did however attempt to say they would not be giving me any of my money. We questioned them and threatened law suite. The rep then went on to say they would be sending me a check but they would not send it for at least 7 to 10 days. We demanded it overnight and they said they had not way of doing this...they are a bank. Yes they can. They then changed their story again and said that a check had already been generated. No check had been generated. The funds still showed up in the account that had the canceled card. They changed their story a third time. This time the guy was trying to say the check that was generated was post dated and had already been sent out and that's why the balance was reflecting in my account still. None of this made sense. We demanded a supervisor and he refused. Saying as always no one was available and someone would be calling us within two hours. It's now been 12 hours (midnight) and still I no calls.

I will get my money back one way or another. These people owe me more than $2, 200. All of this money came from a direct deposit from my employer and they are illegally withholding it. Even if I receive payment I will still be filing suit against them for damages and expenses and it will hurt. They will learn not to mess with anyone ever again!

include me in the lawsuit against them, I am working on my second time to dispute unauthorized charges to my card totaling around $750 and they denied the first time saying they are valid, this time I sent with my dispute letter an intended to be filed court document to take it to small claims court if they refuse again! same with Microsoft, I have had an account with them for years since 2010 which has any and all movies, games, map packs and what not that I paid for and rightfully own now and they go and perma suspend my account and are refusing to either refund me my games, map packs, and movie purchases or transfer them to new account. thinking about taking them to small claims too if greendot denies my dispute as I included the Microsoft charges.

#[protected] After the hurricane in Texas I filed Identity theft to check my back up card ...Green Dot for my extra funds. Any company that I have contacted since the concern has did what they can do to expedite the Texas customers. I explained to the these funds depended on me being homeless no one expressed any sympathy or went out of the way to assist me due to the circumstance. I was told I needed to send another form in because it was denied because of information that I filled out wrong. After submitting again they told me to wait another 2 weeks in which I was never called back since the initial time that I filed dispute. I was never questioned by a supervisor or representative by return of call. I had to call them they canceled my card so I was not able to talk to the customer service line without a card number it took me a couple of days to find another number for assistance to again receive customer service. It would be different if I disputed large amounts all the time. That would be a red flag for them to deny it, not only do I have to pay for new card they are telling me I'm denied in getting my funds reversed. Know one was given my pin number that information was filled out incorrectly. I sent it the corrected form with more supportive information and they stated that I will still need to wait 2 weeks. The fault is at customer service assistance because if I was guided correctly or ever called back by someone to discuss I would have fixed the issue along time ago. I don't accept having to wait another 2 weeks when I am homeless and they know the conditions with Texas inclement weather. They give you company Terms and conditions as if I dont work in customer service. I go out my way to resolve issues for mistakes caused by the customer service agents I work with. Not matter the compromise I find away to resolve the customer issue with one call resolution not 2 weeks. I'm able to verify payments and refund within 24 hours, if a customer has a problem with a charge. Even if It takes me an hour to complete and I have to call the customer back I as a agent take responsibility at the end of the day no matter how good a product can be if there is poor customer service it is not worth it

The only way I've ever found to get a live person on the phone at Greendot is to use their "report card stolen" option. Once you've got a live person on the phone, make them deal with whatever problem it is you're having.

Goole's an idiot who obviously knows nothing about laws regarding credit and debit cards to say nothing about laws regarding THEFT. Mark did everything right, straight by the book. Greendot is obviously jerking him around. He was right to get a lawyer involved but personally I would have THREATENED to contact the BBB if a resolution weren't forthcoming and only made the actual contact AFTER getting it as straightened out as I felt I was able.

I've never had to deal with their loss department, which seems like a good thing.

I can see here that "goole" is up to his "goolish" behaviour again here. This person is not on here to help but only to hurt other people with his judgmental remarks. Is there any way we can get this person's comments deleted or removed? He obviously did not join this site to assist others but only to increase their stress levels even more.

Green Dot at home work

I received a card in the mail stating that they were looking for people to hire to work out of their home, and in the process all you have to do is get your supplies, and mail the test assignments out and they will do the rest. They also sent to me a 950.00 check that I would buy my supplies with and keep the rest of the money, but I did this and check with my Bank to make sure that the funds were vertified and they told me yes, but on 4/6 it came back as a chargeback on my account leaving me and my family with no money at all to live on or eat with because the money we had in the bank is gone, and we have no way of contacting them because you get these numbers but noone answeres at all.
Everybody is telling me that I am SOL and My bank account that had my money is gone, and I can't reach the comany, and BBB cannot reach them as well and I've been putting in complaints but where is my money and I want it back. Now I am left up to contact the NEWS and telling them even if it makes a bad name for Green Dot I don't care. If I work hard for my money I deserve to have it and I just gotten scammed because they stated that the check was fraudulent and not real but it had their name on it along with paperwork and the cards that Green dot uses. I have all of the paperwork still along with the form that was to be mailed out to others and they also provide you with a list of other people names and addresses in the US. If anyone has gotten scammed by these people or have any information that can help me and my family out, please give me a call at [protected] anytime or by E-mail at [protected]@att.net
I need some help for my family and I because our Hard earned money is gone no and Bank Of America states that they aren't liable but they posted the check and they were told to make sure that the checks was vertified before putting it into the account.
Please help my children and I, Jana Wilkes

I just got the same letter and check today from the Greendot grant company from Linda Spaulding..I knew it was a money scam, however I almost cashed it, because I did try to apply for a grant a couple of weeks ago on the internet. I am glad I looked at this site. I had a similiar situation to this one last year, a guy from the UK sent me 3money orders and told me to cash them in my bank account and I did. The money orders never went through because they were fake. In order to clear this up with authorities you have to go to the FBI, I went and showed them everything. If it's a check the bank will give you your money back. You have to get a form from the FBI and you will get your money back! Don't believe any big money making scams or deals from the internet, I always get e-mails stating I won the lottery and need to do this and that in order to recieve my big lump sum, if you have to pay them first for anything, it's a scam. Good Luck and I hope this helps some of you.

I also received this check for $975.00 from GreenDot GrantProgram asking for a 4% commission paid via a GreenDot Money Pak card. This letter gives off way too many clues that this is totally fake.
1) If you never applied for a grant then one isn't going to arrive on your doorstep.
2) If you did for whatever reason receive a grant it would come directly from that company or person and no commissions or fees would be due to anyone.
3) You have to give permission for anyone to check your credit history, they did not obtain it from anywhere without your permission.
4) Most all companies provide contact information along with a sign off at the bottom of a letter. This person wants to stay hidden for a reason.
5) Spelling - numerous words are spelled wrong in this letter and many grammar mistakes are made. If this was a legit letter nothing would be spelled wrong.

I know times are tough and to see a check that you just might be able to cash seems nice, but unfortunately it will put you in a worse place than you are currently in. Money doesn't just appear (although that would be nice) we all have to work for it. So just keep your heads up and keep workng hard. God Bless everyone.

How did you get mixed up with a soft ware company. Cornell Interprises
is a soft ware company that in the country of India.
They sell soft ware programs. They must be using the names of Americans on their software to try to get grant money. Won't work.
So they send you a fake check to put in your account and tell you this junk, that they can't take their fees out, so you pay them and get stuck with their fake check. This scam is as old as the banks.

Thank You all. I recieved a check today for $978.50, from GreenDot Grant Program. The name was Linda Spaulding and the company that was funding the grant was Cornell Interprises The deal was this was supposed to be the first installment of a $10, 000 grant and that I had to send them $401 on a greendot money pack to pay their fees because the law prohibits them from taking it straight out of grant money before they send it. I checked on the BBB site and couldn't find anything there no address just two fax #'s in case of tech difficulties with one. I was going to take it to the bank and have them check it but nw it is shredded. Because I recievedd fake Trevelers Checks once in the mail and when the bank told me to contact the cops they gave me the info to contact the Secret Service all I got was a hold onto them and we might get back in contact with you, that was 3 years ago but the funny thing is that guy had alot of balls to actually e-mail me and tell me that if I didn't send him the Travelors check or the money that was supposed to be wired that the FBI was going to show up on my doorstep with a warrent for my arrest (I'm still waiting to see that also). But thank you for stopping me from getting screwed.

Green Dot fraudulent practices

Well, in short I'm not happy with a credit card company that asks for your social security number over the phone, and then informs you electronically that your number is invalid. You cannot get your account started, and when you think you can by (giving the number) the phone call goes nowhere. It seems that many people are writing about this alleged credit card company and the losses are building up financially.

In addition, the account number sent is only 12 digits long when in fact the one the electronic message asks for is 16 digits long. There should be a more direct way of talking to these people, not their electronic message system. I don't know presently whether I can get my refund because I keep getting the runaround. I would not chose this company if I had to do it again. Moreover, it's been more then two weeks since I ordered and my card has not arrived. They want you to put your whole paycheck into their account. Don't do it. It's too risky!

Green Dot my refund is not returned

I had purchased a Green Dot card on March 24, 2009. I had put money on the money pack card from my Federal Income Tax. I put 45 dollars on the card. My prepaided rush card was not part of their prepaid cards so my money would not go on there. I call Green Dot the same day and I am still waiting on my money. They told me I will recieved my money within 7-10 business days. It been 2 weeks, that is just not right. They are bascially getting people money, that why you can not get a refund from the store. I say somebody need to make money off them by getting our pocket money back.

I bought my card at a walgreens here in humble texas. I put 30.00 on the card and spent 15.00 online. I get an email message a few days later and it says I have a balance of 0.00... After taxes on the website i should have had 9-10 dollars left on the card butI will never deal with these people again...Even after the monthly fee I still should have money on my card, so im just going to deal with the wal-mart visa card. I have never had issues of depleted funds for no reason with them...

I have been using my greendot card for three 3 years now and only once had a problem. I called the 1-800 number and they were nice and fixed the problem within 30 minutes. I realize that there is monthly fees. I keep up with all deposits and purchases. I love my card!

They are a bunch of foreign thieves. They're not even American.I have had two cards and both times I've had problems. I'm thinking of reporting them to the Connecticut attorney generals office...he loves to sue big companys that scam people. That's what this is all about. Greendot is nothing but a huge scam. If at all possible, a class action suit should be brought down on them.

It's funny: you're told you have "too many cards" and you immediately think greendot is a scam. if *i* were told I have too many cards issued in my name, i'd be wondering who has stolen my identity!

You might just want to be checking into that!

Oh I agree 100% they did the same to me, I brought my card from walgreens on 3/29/09. and when trying to acttivate the card it kept telling me that I had to many cards, when I never in my life brought one of these cards. and I never will again an I will be contacting the bb because I don't have $5.00 to give away to anyone.

Greendot is a scam in my book.

Green Dot money not available

Not until after you made your "non-refundable" payment and receive your receipt for reloading their prepaid "greendot refill card" do you learn that you cannot even log in to add the funds for 60 minutes. If you purchase the refill card because you need to pay a bill online such as to get a service turned back on that was overdue, you will add an hour wait to the time it takes to have that service restored.

CVS, Walmart, and others do not have this restriction, only Walgreens.
