fraudulent credit card charges

As mentioned in another complaint here, the company gives your credit card number and "authorization" to another company,
Diets Central, for a "product" (which you never receive or get confirmation of) when you are making a purchase from GotBody.com.
It displays a banner for this diet product on the checkout page with a checkbox that is by default checked and if you don't
uncheck it you've bought a "subscription". That means you will start seeing charges appear on your card statement,
in my case, for $29.95 monthly, and $2.97 monthly. the name that appeared onmy statement was "Webshape", with
a phone number of 800-485-5178. The reps that answer at that number and the recorded messages don't use a
company name, they just say you've reached "customer service". I talked with the rep and she did give me the
company name, "Diets Central" and their address, 305 West Broadway, #114, New York, NY 10013. she said she'd
refund the charges and gave me confirmation numbers on the promised refunds. She said she didn't have the info
on what website or this charge came from. I looked over the list of merchants I'd purchased vitamins and supplements
from in the last few months and thought GotBody was a prime candidate. When I called GotBody, the rep there told
me about the banner (which I'd never seen, since one doesn't look for ads when checking out but rather tends
to ignore them and look at the fields in the form that are pertinent to checking out). She said the owner of
GotBody.com had no intention of changing his policy of doing business this way. I told her I hoped that she
would be able to find a job with a more ethical employer, and she said, "I hope so too. I'm looking." I am now
trying to decide whether to report it as fraud to my bank, and let them refund my money, which they will,
or wait to see if Diets Central will really send a refund. If I cancel my debit card number they won't be able
to make further charges, but they also wouldn't be able to post a refund. Does anyone else have experience
with this and did you ever get your money refunded from Diets Central?

I had a similar experience ordering from GotBody.com. I was surprised to receive extra emails thanking me for signing up with two separate sites: Diets Central and Cost Smashers. Each trial period came with a "if you don't cancel you'll be billed" setup. I was able to call the customer support number in the email and to my knowledge the accounts were canceled and I was not billed. (Luckily I caught this sneaky add-on during the trial period.) I'll be watching my credit card bills closely in the coming months though.
Overall very disappointing experience and I won't be going back to GotBody.com! |

I got burned on this too. Gotbody sneaks in a thing that you dont notice, and diets central and cost smashers dont send confirmations.
For 3 months, I was losing $29.95 and $2.95 a month, until today when my statement finally showed a phone number.
gotbody.com is, therefore, dishonest crooks... no one should use them. |
|
|
| Agree!!! I was able to have all charges reversed and refunded after calling the customer service dept.. But these are very sneaky and deceptive business practices and thus I will no longer shop with GotBody.com |
|
|
| Thanks for this review page. I am already planning to order several herbal multi-vitamins at GotBody.com as I noticed they are cheaper compared to seacoastvitamins.com where I normally order. Good I decided to check-out review on this website. Thanks again! |

I just enountered te same problem with GOTBODY.COM. It seems like I recieved a subscription to Diets Central and Costsmashers that I never wanted. I looked at my bank statement today and saw where I was charged for these subscriptions. I called up the 1-800 number for diets central and complained. They said I got an email that I opened it. I went through my email with her on the phone and never saw where I received an email from them. The woman on the phone kept saying I must have moved or deleted it, which I never did. I told her I have every email I was sent since getting the email account.
This woman could not explain how they got my credit card number but eventually hinted that it was probably because of GOTBODY.COM. She "decided" to refund money they had no right to in the first place.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH GOBODY.COM!!! |
|
|
| THIS PRACTICE IS UNETHICAL AND GOTBODY.COM SHOULD BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS AND PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW!! I too, just found out I was "enrolled" in a program I never even heard about. I was told when I called the number on my credit card statement that all the information was there on their web page when I "checked out" and that I agreed to it. BULL! If it was there, it was in such fine print and "hidden" that is was not MEANT to be seen by the unsuspecting customer. My credit card company told me that some merchants are getting sneaky and adding this stuff under "terms and conditions" which would make it understable that was the reason I did not see I was agreeing to purchase this scam. GotBody.com has lost another customer...I guess they lure us in with good prices and then hope to make their money back by fraudulent business practices! WARNING!! DO NOT ORDER FROM GOTBODY.COM!! |
|
|
| So many of the same complaints, why do the credit card companies permit them to process credit charges? Are there NO standards? This happened to me today, so I guess I have to just cancel my credit card... |
|
|
The same thing just happened to me with GotBody.com. They have now set up a scam site called Wellness-Hub.com that charges you $29.95 per month. If you go to that site, you will see that it is absolutely a fake site, with no actual links or services, apart from a "Quick Tour". I was never notified that I had enrolled in this "service, " which is actually not a service at all -- it's a scam.
I cancelled my card today. What a hassle. Have they no ethics?
As far as I know, creating something that requires a customer to "opt out" after automatically enrolling them in something that comes with a recurrent charge is in fact illegal. I would like to know if anyone plans to sue this company for damages. I am close to taking it upon myself to do it. |
|
|
I also received charges of $29.95 in May & June 2010 from "Wellness -Hub". This burns me up because I've been a loyal customer of GotBody.com for probably 10 years! There was nothing on my receipt showing I agreed to the Wellness-Hub charge, and I saw nothing on GotBody's checkout page about "opting out" of optional services. This is a scam and I'm obviously not going to do business with them ever again. I don't care how good their prices are.
My credit card number has been changed & the two scam charges have been reversed by my credit card company. |

I am so glad I came across this, GotBody.com got me TOO wiht the "Wellness-hub" B.S.! I think this is actually the second time this has happed to me, I could never figure out the source the first time, lost money fthe first time and had to cancel my credit card, a real pain.
Who do we complain to get these guys on a scammer list! |

I had a similar experience with GotBody.com and charges added to my credit account from Wellness-Hub.com. However, I wrote an e-mail to both companies, and later spoke with the customer service representative at GotBody.com (Andrew) and he was very polite and understanding of my frustration.
I was told that there is in fact a box to check at the end of the checkout procedure claiming you do not want to join wellness-hub. I said that was very tricky to sneak that in and he assured me that was not the intention of GotBody and they are working on recreating their website so this sort of confusion does not continue. He assured me that it will be set up in a way that there will be no mistaking the offer and the choice to decline would be made more obvious.
Andrew assured me that he would work to get my $29.95 back as soon as possible, and in fact, it was added back to my account that very afternoon.
I am afraid I was a bit aggressive when I lashed out at these two companies and am sorry I did so. They both have good customer service relations and were able to fix my problem in a courteous and efficient manner.
Even though I do not care for the pop-ups, or questions asking me to join other groups, I do understand that is sometimes necessary for an online business to partake in, to keep funds rolling in and keep employees paid.
This all being said, I will order from them again...I will just be a bit more careful during the checkout procedure. |

I to ordered a product from GotBody.com. I received the products as ordered but on my AMX bill I had an additional charge from Bio MyWellness-Hub.com.
I tried to call there customer service number.I was put on hold and the call was never answered.
I then called American Express had AMX stop payment, reverse charges and block this account from charging my card for the next four years.
It appears that GotBody.com sell's your credit information to other company's.
This is a scam and I'm obviously not going to do business with GotBody.com ever again. I also don't care how good their prices are.

| The same thing happened to me. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. I am going to pursue this further and see if I can get legal actions taken against them. |

Dear GotBody customer,
We're very sorry to hear of your experience. It's very important that we provide superior experiences every time you visit GotBody.com or contact our service team, and for that reason have discontinued all trial offers on GotBody.com.
For some time, we did test an opt-out offer (along with large graphic banner and program text) located next to the "submit order" button, which was at the last step of checkout. While our intention was to make the offer prominent and noticeable, it became clear that introducing any offer into our checkout process from any 3rd party was not in line with our company mission nor in the best interest of our customers.
As part of our arrangement with Wellness-Hub, they will refund any of our customers in full for any unwanted charges. If you or any other customers require our assistance in arranging for refunds, please contact our service using the link at GotBody.com
Yours in health,
Steve

I ordered a supplement from Gotbody.com in January 2011, without knowing of this practice. I have not noticed any unexpected credit charges. But just today I received the following email from Gotbody.com. I suspect that the "data intrusion" at the company is traceable directly to the unethical practice mentioned: that of surreptitiously signing up customers to services at "other companies."

Dear [my name]
We are writing to inform you of an incident that may have involved your personal information. Sometime during the last two weeks in July, a data intrusion occurred on GotBody.com's servers. The information breached included your name, address, credit card number, expiration, and email address.
We are notifying you so you can take steps along with our efforts to minimize or eliminate potential harm. Because this is a serious incident, we strongly encourage you to take preventive measures now to prevent and detect any misuse of your information.
We recommend that you regularly review statements from your accounts and periodically obtain your credit report from one or more of the national credit reporting companies. You may obtain a free copy of your credit report online at www.annualcreditreport.com, by calling toll-free 1-877-322-8228, or by mailing an Annual Credit Report Request Form (available at www.annualcreditreport.com) to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA, 30348-5281. You may also purchase a copy of your credit report by contacting one or more of the three national credit reporting agencies listed below.
Equifax, P.O. Box 740241, Atlanta, Georgia 30374-0241, 1-800-685-1111, www.equifax.com
Experian, P.O. Box 9532, Allen, TX 75013, 1-888-397-3742, www.experian.com
TransUnion, P.O. Box 6790, Fullerton, CA 92834-6790, 1-800-916-8800, www.transunion.com
When you receive your credit reports, review them carefully. Look for accounts or creditor inquiries that you did not initiate or do not recognize. Look for information, such as home address and Social Security number, that is not accurate. If you see anything you do not understand, call the credit reporting agency at the telephone number on the report.
We recommend you remain vigilant with respect to reviewing your account statements and credit reports, and promptly report any suspicious activity or suspected identity theft to us and to the proper law enforcement authorities, including local law enforcement, your state's attorney general and/or the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”). You may contact the FTC or your state's regulatory authority to obtain additional information about avoiding identity theft.

Fraud Alerts: There are also two types of fraud alerts that you can place on your credit report to put your creditors on notice that you may be a victim of fraud: an initial alert and an extended alert. You may ask that an initial fraud alert be placed on your credit report if you suspect you have been, or are about to be, a victim of identity theft. An initial fraud alert stays on your credit report for at least 90 days. You may have an extended alert placed on your credit report if you have already been a victim of identity theft with the appropriate documentary proof. An extended fraud alert stays on your credit report for seven years. You can place a fraud alert on your credit report by calling the toll-free fraud number of any of the three national credit reporting agencies listed below.
Credit Freezes: You may have the right to put a credit freeze, also known as a security freeze, on your credit file, so that no new credit can be opened in your name without the use of a PIN number that is issued to you when you initiate a freeze. A credit freeze is designed to prevent potential credit grantors from accessing your credit report without your consent. If you place a credit freeze, potential creditors and other third parties will not be able to get access to your credit report unless you temporarily lift the freeze. Therefore, using a credit freeze may delay your ability to obtain credit. In addition, you may incur fees to place, lift and/or remove a credit freeze. Credit freeze laws vary from state to state. The cost of placing, temporarily lifting, and removing a credit freeze also varies by state, generally $5 to $20 per action at each credit reporting company. Unlike a fraud alert, you must separately place a credit freeze on your credit file at each credit reporting company. Since the instructions for how to establish a credit freeze differ from state to state, please contact the three major credit reporting companies at the numbers above to find out more information.
We take the protection of your personal information seriously and are taking steps to prevent a similar occurrence. We are taking all possible steps to ensure that such a breach does not occur in the future by storing all data in a PCI compliant manner.
If you have further questions or concerns about this incident, please contact GotBody customer service at service@gotbody.com We sincerely regret any inconvenience or concern caused by this incident.
Sincerely,
GotBody.com
