Unbelievable I was told fax a utility bill call back in 2 days-I did and was told inmate had to call me first before they could set up account. Well my son FINALLY got phone list approved has tried to call me twice and calls were blocked-Ive been trying all day to get GTL-cant get thru. HOW can a co. get away with treating customers this way.

You have somebody in prison, you are shit. Do not call cr service, try to do something about crimes by yourself. The person who is in prison should stay there and pay what has been done

I am sorry Sharon. That is terrible that they are treating you that way. For you Superman... First, she is not the one is prison, so don't treat her like a criminal or call her names. Second, the person in prison may be wrongfully accused (you don't know). Third, you sound like an absolutely miserable person speaking this way to someone you have never met.

I have the same problem with Global Tel-Link. Will call the FCC
tomorrow. They are making billions off the vulnerable. The state of Louisiana is making big profits also. Hopefully the new gov. will listen and do something. I am researching the owners and the people who own shares. A ceo from Standard & Poor advised the Corporations of private prisons to write a contract tightly so inmates can not be pulled out easily because that would be revenue lost and to make it so the state can not interfer with the treatment of inmates. Start researching!! Then, report to the FCC, then a lawsuit, because GTL is taking money and not providing a service for the money they kept. If groups file a civil suit in federal courts, someone and something has to be done, otherwise, is this America and do all laws derive from the United States Constitution? Remember, civil actions are more quickly heard. Please contact.

I agree and would like more information on how to file a complaint - have not been able to reach GTL on any number. submitted a fax - but dont remember my pass code, if i ever had one. this co. needs to have their license revoked and we need to complain in mass to th FCC and any other governing body that over looks this SCAM. Tomorrow in morning I will start by calling FCC, others please do the same and lets keep all informed. POWER TO THE PEOPLE.

there's one thing Pennsylvania's Department of Imprisonment is crazy for, it's your money. Pennsylvania's Department of Imprisonment doesn't see itself as a legitimate public agency. It doesn't think it exists to serve the citizens. It sees itself as the Halliburton of state government, a crooked corporation out to gouge you for as much money as possible.
The official policy of the Pennsylvania Department of Imprisonment is to harm the citizens, not to benefit them.

Pennsylvania's Department of Imprisonment, laughingly called the "DOC," is as greedy as the worst big businesses in the country. These are shameless thieves. Their newest crooked money-making scheme is the telephone racket. The Maffia could hardly do better.

In partnership with what appears to be a corrupt organization which seems to operate out of Florida or Colorado (or both), DOC is merrily grabbing millions of dollars from prisoners' families. It's purely a racket, a criminal scheme!

DOC's partner is an organization which seems to hide behind a number of aliases. The most common seem to be Global Tel*Link and "GTL." It also calls itself Gores Group and sometimes Gores Technology Group. Why would any legitimate business need so many aliases and why would a state agency want to partner with an organization which uses aliases?

DOC's telephone partner appears to be the unclean spawn of MCI Maximum Security and/or Verizon Business Department of Corrections Division. Whatever alias they use, this unsavory mob is now in partnership with Pennsylvania's Department of Imprisonment and with other prison systems around the country. They promise their prison partners that they'll "always increasing revenue for the facility!"

The "revenue" is millions of dollars taken from some of the poorest persons in the nation, the families of prisoners, mostly minorities, who can hardly make ends meet as it is. These are families struggling to stay together and to rehabilitate from the social evil of imprisonment.

A prisoner phoning his wife from a Pennsylvania prison must pay $5.69 to talk to her for 15 minutes. Half of that is kicked back to the greedy Department of Imprisonment. Republicans think it's a perfectly dandy system, a revenue stream taxing the poor. Republicans like to tax the poor and give benefits to big businesses such as Global Tel*Link.

Half-literate prison functionaries think that an average cost of 40¢ a minute is quite fair. They don't want to reveal that they pay only 2¢ per minute. It's embarrassing.

If a prisoner telephones his family collect, the price is even higher. It's all money flowing into the pockets of DOC and their crooked big business partner. The Pennsylvania Department of Imprisonment rakes in about $6,000,000 a year.

In exchange for these huge fees, the "customer" isn't just cheated, she/he gets to have his phone call wiretapped, recorded, "monitored," censored and used against her/him if he should dare to use a forbidden word like "pussy." Only prison guards are allowed to use such terms.

Global Tel*Link doesn't seem to have the required registered business address within Pennsylvania. It claims an address at Box 173875 in Denver, Colorado, 80217. Perhaps that's a legitimate address at which they can be served legal process; we doubt it. They also give a phone number of 1-800-231-0193. We believe the number to be nothing but a cover-up.

When our publisher called to complain about the service, especially about the repeated disconnection of calls, the unreliability of the service and the staggering cost, an anonymous voice made no sincere effort to correct problems. He did nothing except blame the customer and/or the prisoner. Global Tel*Link was never at fault and never had to make any adjustments or corrections. It's that rarest of things, "perfect!" If there was something wrong, it was what the prisoner or his/her family was doing.

The phone scheme involves prisoners or their families prepaying money to the DOC/Global Tel*Link partnership before any calls are actually made. No interest is paid on the deposited funds. The system isn't about service. It's about MONEY, PROFITS! There are several schemes to collect money from prisoners and their families. In all cases, the racket guarantees that refunds "will only be made upon an inmate's release from jail. . .A refund will only be made if requested by the facility and/or by the commissary company. Inmate requests for refunds will be denied!" No matter that the company is at fault or that the Department of Imprisonment is at fault, nobody's getting a penny back from this corrupt organization. They brag that "the amount of money leftover should be minimal!"

We've been unable to discover if Global Tel*Link is a publicly held corporation. If it is, the SEC may have something to say about them and their practices. We'll try. Buying a share of stock may give a citizen some voice to complain at stockholders' meetings. Complaining to the Department of Imprisonment is like begging Halliburton to quit killing victims in Iraq as a way to make money for the Cheney gang.

I COMPLETELY AGREE. THERE IS ALWAYS A PROBLEM WHEN TALKING TO A GTL REP. THAT IS WHY I USE THE AUTOMATED PAY SYSTEM. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ENTER YOUR PHONE NUMBER, THEN ENTER A DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD NUMBER...

ITS WAY EASIER THAN MONEY GRAMS OR TALKING TO A REP. TRUST ME!!!

THE BEST PART IS THATS THE MONEY IS ADDED AS SOON AS YOU CONSENT TO THE TRANSACTION!!!

AND IF YOU DONT HAVE A DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD, YOU CAN PURCHASE A PREPAID ONE AT YOUR LOCAL GROCERY STORE.. JUST MAKE SURE ITS VISA OR MASTERCARD!! THE AUTOMATED PAY SYSTEM EXCEPTS THESE PREPAID CREDIT CARDS AS A REGULAR CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD!!!

I agree with every negative comment made about Global Tel Link. I can add that they do not even keep the phones in prison in good working order. Their profit margin must be extremly high for the mediocre type of service they provide. If anyone knows how to successfully lodge a complaint against them please let me know.

Northrup Grumman is a company driven by nothing but politics,
people who don't know basic object oriented programming, software processes, web client
versus rich client GUIs, and produces some of the most horrible products because they are
not well designed and are just one big gigantic hack. On top of that there is
no such thing as a business analyst, the systems engineers are pure idiots, management
never does the right thing nor makes the right decisions.

I just finished talking with Global Tel-Link, UNHAP-
PILY, I might add. My son has recently been incar-
cerated in Kansas and since I moved to the state of
Washington late last year, it would be appreciated
if I could hear from him at least once a month.

When he tried to call, at first, after I answered the ring, I was left holding the phone with no connection.
A while later, a voice for Global Tel-Link (GTL) came
on the line stating that my phone company would
not allow collect calls on my phone and that I would have to call the number given to set up prepayment
with Visa or Mastercard which I don't have.

When I contacted my phone provider customer
service, I was told there were no blocks on my phone,
that I could call the number they were giving me
to be sure that I was allowed collect calls from a
correctional facility -- which I did. No luck as far
as GTL.

When I contacted GTL, they admitted they did not
have a contract with my phone company for billing
so I would have to prepay!! No information was giv-
en re inmate prepaid voucher, or purchased credit
card possibility (the suggestion above, which I very
much appreciate), etc. As I was talking with them,
another call came which I ignored until finishing
my conversation. That call was from a GTL repre-
sentative telling me they had NO RECORD OF AN
ATTEMPTED CALL TO MY NUMBER FROM AN IN-
MATE WITHIN THE LAST SIX MONTHS! And that
the inmate would have to attempt a call before any
account could be set up or GTL could do anything
further. My son has tried at least six or seven times
in the last month.

I, also, am attempting to find the most effective and
best way to file a complaint. According to my web
search, GTL is a privately-owned company and so
far, I've been unable to find the name or any info re
its CEO. I shan't stop until I do.

Superman's comments are not worthy of a response.

I have been paying my bill with a credit card on line for 2 years, it usually takes 24 hrs to post. Bou it has been over a week now since I paid on my account, and they say they cant post it because the system is down. For 4 days they have been telling me this, call back, callback, then they disconnect me when I ask for a supervisor! This is the most horrific company as far as their Alabama rude ass customer service, and they dont care, and the worst part is there is absolutely NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT!!! What is the operaters job? They can never tell you anything, just there to take your money that they are good at, go figure they are from good ole Alabama!!

Using other companies besides my regular phone company has been a night mare for this ministry. Last week I put money on the account. One call came through. As I called to see what the balance was I noticed that too much had been taken out. When I called to ask why, I was told "Don't worry about 1.90, you have other money on the account!" When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was treated verbally rudely by the first service person. From that point on I have not received any more calls, which is highly unusual due to this being a ministry. Each call to GTL has been the same thing, "Your line is not blocked." but no one seems to look into the matter that no calls have come through. I agree with someone above that I am told no one has attempted to call, that seems like a made up line to avoid looking into matters. I am in CA

OMG!!! I just put 25.00 on this account and that made my balance 27.66 which means I have a good four calls to receive from my friend. now yesterday we used two of the four and today it's not even going through... I called the automated system to check my balance and its saying I dont even have an account with them... so give me my money back!!!I hate this... I mean, I hate GTL!!!

Global Tel Link is a awful company, along with Correctional Billing Services. These companies take complete advantage of the situation that people are in. The customer service is awful, they dont know what they are doing. It took them 1 week to set up my account, after talking to at least 4 people daily, including supervisors, they finally figured out that my account had initially been set up wrong. This is after they sent out 4 Technical Help Support tickets! They over charge and BE SURE TO KEEP ALL TRANSACTION RECEIPTS BECAUSE THEY WILL TRY TO FUCK YOU OUT OF YOUR $$$$$$$!!!

All the sudden, the company began to block collect calls, forcing me to open an advanced prepay account. Apparently, some $100 limit is used up. I logged onto my account in order to prepay for this account, and put in $50, but soon found out that my balance is now "-$50.00". I believe i need to refund this and put it into the advanced prepay account, this is a mess.

Worst customer service..EVER. I'm a customer service manager and this by far has been my worst experience with a company. If GTL weren't the only company that provided this service, I wouldn't deal with them. It's very unfortunate to us as consumers! I have spent several hours of my life on the phone with this company only to be disconnected, hung up on, transferred and on hold for HOURS, etc... I have paid numerous ways on the account - credit card, money order, check - and for some reason there is always a "problem with the system" and it takes 2-3 days if not longer to credit my account.

Also...these customer service operators might say they are in Alabama---------------

But I'm pretty sure they are not in Alabama.

Rather in India or some other foreign country that OUR JOBS have been outsourced to! It's an outrage.

I have been so stressed out because of GTL. It is bad enough having your loved one locked up, but then to have to deal with GTL just to talk to them. The money that I put on my prepaid acct. goes to quickly. We have been keeping track of the time we talk and the balance on the acct. and it just does not add up. I put $25 on the acct. one day, spoke to my man for only 6 min. The next day I was told that I did not have enough money in my acct. and was forced to put another $25 just to talk to him again. He was to come out the next day. After he came home, I called for a Investigation on my acct. and a refund. I was told that I spoke to him several times those last two days and was only going to get $5.95 back and Now they charge a refund fee of $5. My refund will be $.95. I asked to talk to a supervisor, and put on hold for 10 min before a voice mail message came on to leave a message. I tried this twice. Still no call back. They are robbing us all. Not only do they charge too much, they charge a activation fee, and a refund fee.

I GOT GLOBAL TEL LINK BECAUSE IT WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKED TO THE PLACE WHERE HE WAS BUT GLOBAL TEL LINK HAD ME THINKING I HAD A PRE-PAID ACCOUNT WHEN I WAS GETTNG BILLED DIRECTLY BUT I GOT A BLOCK PLACED ON MY LINE NO ONE INFORMED ABOUT THAT PROGRAM OR SYSTEM I WAS SO ANGRY THAT NO ONE INFORMED OF THAT AFTER I CALLED MULTIPLE TIME ASKING IF MY LINE WAS FINE AND IF THERE WAS A BLOCK ON THE LINE AND THEY KEPT TELLING ME NO WHEN THERE REALLY WAS ONE. THIS SERVICE IS SO HORRIBLE
