Gladstone Homes has reduced the price of new construction homes by $100,000. This dramatic action was not discussed with existing homeowners and brings to question the integrity of the builder. Gladstone has ignored several requests to meet with homeowners to discuss this issue. They have also ignored phone calls and emails from concerned buyers. To further insult those of us who already purchased homes at the full price, Gladstone had a visible police presence in our sub-division during the open house hours for their fire sale. When asked, the police stated that the builder felt threatened because "there were a lot of angry homeowners". What type of community is Gladstone building now? Discounts of $100,000 suggest that these are no longer luxury homes. What does this action mean for the value of current homes in the Chatham Square subdivision? How will this impact our property taxes since assessments were done prior to this move? These are all questions that Gladstone refuses to answer or address with those homeowners who have invested in this dishonest builder. We, as a community are very disappointed in Gladstone Builders.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear that this builder did not even respect or value one of his employees. You worked for him and made him money, just imagine what the rest of his homeowners are treated like. That Buider is a DOG! BOW WOW.

This builder is a cowering "little girl" who does not address the controversy he has created. The "fire sale" has only put a band-aid on his true crisis. Plainfield and the residents will soon see that all the handiwork from this builder will inevitably bring about another Neumann.

Sorry about losing out on your commission. Then again, after seeing Dave Bolger sue residents for erecting playsets, do any of his actions surprise you? Knock on wood, I've yet to have any problems with my house in the past 3+ years (lucky I guess). What disgusts me the most is the lack of regard for the homeowners. The entire process of buying a home was worse than some fraternity "Hell Week"...sales people were great, but that was the highlight. Dealing with Marcia was the worst experience in my entire life (and I'm buying a $400+ home). Try getting a complete statement of where the assessmet money goes (laugh). No accountability, no integrity, and absolutely zero humanity.

Gladstone Builders is a mom and pop company pretending to be one of the big-boys.

We purchased a $750,000 house from Gladstone Homes. I must say they are built like absolute S*** we had, our foundation leak 4 times 2 of which were under warrenty. Our sump pumps went out after a year, our walls cracked, from settling, our sink and master bath were not sealed properly and caused water damage. 3 Light fixtures not wired and had to be rewired post warrenty. Not to mention the cost of the upgrades is nothing short of robbery. The houses look great until you own one, then you quickly realize you've been had. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

I am in the process of building with Gladstone, and have friends and family that have build with Gladstone in the past. The quality of the homes is excellent. I have seen nothing but good homes come out of this building. I do agree that dealing with Marcia can be a challenge.

Sounds to me like there are just a lot of people who can't handle the fact that they were not able to take advantage of the recent incentives. Remember people, the incentives were for 2 days only. The current pricing of Gladstone Homes are above what you paid, so stop worrying about your home values.

I think the builder has to do what he needs to do to save his company and the many jobs in his company by having a sale. How do you know he has refused to comment, he is a good person, an honest man, and has great integrity. We have a Gladstone Home, we have not had any problems and had a wonderful experience. The homes are absolutely beautiful and if you have an issue they will fix it under your warranty in the first year. Marcia was great, she has wonderful ideas and we loved her. The fact that Dave Bolger has to have incentives to sell the homes is not going to effect you in the future, the market is horrible and the home builders are really struggling. I feel bad for them, but I think Gladstone is smart for having the sale. The home owners are mad because they did not get the 100,00 off their home. He has to do what he has to do to stay in business, no way is he wrong for this. GOOD FOR YOU DAVE!!!!!! You are one of the smart ones!!!! Good luck to you, we hope you are able to stay in business, your homes make most of us really happy. Stop worrying about your home value, you will be fine. Leave the poor guy alone.

It sounds like Gloria has a bone to pick with her former employer, I do not think she should be saying such horrble things about her former employer on the internet. There are always 2 sides to every story and it sounds pretty immature to be bashing someone like this who cannot defend himself. Nothing makes ME, as a Gladstone Home owner more annoyed than a pissed off former employee. Dont believe everything you read people, I own a business too and have had this same problem. This is not US magazine. Our home is great, and we had a wonderful experience. I could not give a **** about what a former employee says about Mr. Bolger. We all know if we are fired from a job it is for a good reason, she is obviously angry and not telling the WHOLE truth.
I find her comments insulting to my intelligence, Gloria is just angry she got FIRED!!!!!!Get over it. Gladstone is a wonderful company.

The reason why I placed a comment was to share my experiences with my home and maybe alleviate someone else from these problems. To the people who commented on how they understand and support Dave Bolgers decision on reducing the prices in Chatham, they must live in a different community and they really need to put themselves in the shoes of the residents at Chatham. Yes, the market is tough but there are other ways to get sales. There are plenty of builders out there that are still selling.

What Dave really needs to do is reduce the price on all his homes in every subdivision. That would certainly keep him in business. Since he is such a wonderful person I am sure that all the homeowners in all the subdivisions would be very enthusiastic about the sales and his success.

I have not made a comment that was not true and if I made a certain comment it was because it was made from first hand experience (a fact) and not because I heard about it. I did not get fired from Gladstone, I QUIT!

The thoughts on a $100k price reduction can definitely put a seriously negative affect on the value of a home.....so can a plethora of empty lots.

I commend Gloria Rojas on her decision to quit and wish her good luck with her home.

Marcia...Sales Consultant....a challenge (ow, my sides)....wonderful ideas(mostly her own). Marcia, don't you think 20 lights may be a few too many for the kitchen?
My personal Marcia experience along with every single neighbor I've had contact with can be summarized by the following description: Rude, abrasive, self-serving, snobby, snooty (Ferris Beuhler ref.), and I believe 2 out of 3 called her a bi***.

I fail to see a the integrity of a builder that will not release his sole control of the Associations to the rightful inhabitants of a subdivision. I refuse to use the word "honor" in describing a man welcomes confrontation (via lawyers) when he is called to the carpet. Many of us have seen far too much in our own communities to ever use such kind words.

I take it Gloria that while you worked for Gladstone, you obviously would have been aware of customer issues (positive or negative) arising from homeowners. Your advise to prospective customers is to knock on a few doors in the neighborhoods (underlying suggestion that we would receive negative feedback). Given this and your rude comments regarding the builder…May I ask, why did YOU purchase a home from Gladstone?
174 days ago by Gloria Riojas [send email]
I purchased the home based on location. I'm in a great location with great highway access for my husbands job. My children already belonged to the school district so it was very convenient. If Wiseman Hughes was bulding here I would have purchased from them (location, location, location).

My Original complaint and all the other comments I have posted are entirely my OWN OPINION. My comments were not meant to be rude. Like I had mentioned prior to this comment, my intention was to alleviate others the problems I encountered. 2/3/08

Honestly, most of you homeowners should shut up about the 100,000k. I waited it out, you couldn't. You only have YOURSELF and your greed to blame. This is AMERICA people. Buy low, sell high, get it?

Boo hoo..no..no..not fair you cry, we must keep our home prices 'artificially inflated'!!... so we can sleep easy at night thinking we made a good investment and can sell about 6 months with 50k profit. However your selfishness says if unsellable overpriced homes cause the builder and his employees to starve so be it, so long as we feel good about our foolish timing and 'investment'.

Look people, bottom line:

YOU KNEW THIS WAS COMMING. Read the news. Home prices are FALLING!! I have absolute ZERO sympathy for fools that buy overvalued homes, stocks, cars, propety, or anything of that nature hoping to make a killing. You live by the gains and your die by the losses, so shut up about the fire sales, it's all part of the business cycles!

What about those of us who bought our homes to live in it and raise a family! Not everyone is bad in this world and looking to make a profit and crap on everyone elses lives like Dave Bolger has! Anon you sound like just as sick of a person as he is!

I think some of these comments are way out of line. You should not judge someone until you have been in their shoes. Dave Bolger is a friend, and built our home...he is a great family man, and an honest person. These builders are doing the best they can with the economy, he is simply trying to provide for his family, not hurt you people. Dont act like you know what you are talking about until you have been in the same shoes. It makes me sick to read these untrue comments, and you need to be christian people.
Stop the lies, and bitching for crying out LOUD!!! You bought a house from Gladstone because you thought they were great homes. You will have problems no matter who you build with, stuff happens, they will fix it. The house is beautifully built and under warranty for a year, fix it and get over your anger. Enjoy the fact that you have a home, like so many in the world do not. Be thankful for what you have.

If he is such a great family man then why would he sue families for putting playsets in their backyard? And then continue to sue them for money after they have taken it down? That is very Christian like - NOT!

The problem I have had with Gladstone is their customer service. They are as nice as can be before you sign those closing papers. It goes downhill quickly after that.

During my meeting with Marcia (I have a whole other complaint about her!), I told her that I wanted rock added to the brick on the front of my house "like the model." (Briarstone at ME) At no time did she inform me that the model design had changed by half the amount of rock, nor did she show me a final blueprint of my elevation at my last meeting with her that would have shown me the placement of the rock.

During construction I was still living in California and missed viewing the building process entirely. When I showed up for my walk-through I was surprised to see only half the rock on my house than I was expecting. During my closing meeting I mentioned this to the attorney for Gladstone and he told me to contact Gladstone because I should get half my money back for the rock since I should have received what was on the model.

After going to every person I could in Gladstone, even to Mr. Bolger himself, he told me that after they built the model they decided that they didn't like that much rock on it and changed the plan. I was never told this. Had I been told, I never would have paid that much for the rock. He even came by my house and said that the rock I chose was nearly invisible with the brick I chose (Marcia's suggestion) just digging that knife in deeper.

This does not even cover all the complaints that I have. I would warn anyone buying from Gladstone to be very careful in what you have added on to your house. And God help you during your meeting with Marcia.

Anon is back. Anon-good...sounds like you are your own self appointed evaluator of your virture...you actually sound more like Anon-arrogant.

Anyway, what a bunch of greedy homeowners. Whining about home prices going down, and trying to pin the blame of Gladstone.

Here is the reality: When you go to sell you home you bought two years ago, it will not sell for what you paid for it unless you reduce the price. Are you going to blame that on Dave too?

Get real people, you got into the game at the wrong time, take responsibility for your own decisions and stop trying to find somebody to blame them on. You are not a victim, you made your own bed. Lie in it.

ANON- Some of us didn't have a choice when we bought. Some of us didn't have the luxury to wait for the "right time." Stop being an idiot. You're the one spouting off that you waited it out so you could make that big deal to buy low to re-sell high.
Sounds like you're the greedy homeowner.

Linda,

As far as you 'having to buy'...pure BS Linda. Try renting.

Anyway it is called being prudent. Fools like yourself rush in, get bad loans, and force prices to skyrocket. Now you feel it is both the government and Gladstone who should bail you out. If you want that luxury move to a communist country.

Anybody with even a remote study of economics and history would have seen this coming.

You have my sympathy...NOT.
