I can't comment on the content of the seminar, as we never made it in !!!

I understand the concept of a free or low cost seminar and would have been OK with political views and sales pitches. What I am upset about is the total disorganization. They completely oversold the recent seminar in Austin, TX. Even though I was one of the first to sign up, they called me and said that because they had oversold the convention center would we be willing to go to a satellite location. This location was much further away and of course we had wanted to see the speakers 'live'. To compensate us for this inconvenience, we were promised free parking, free lunch and that they would attempt to get the speakers to come over to our location for a personal meet and greet. Since I was taking my elderly bookkeeper, I agreed as I knew this would be easier for her.

We arrived 50 minute early, to the satellite location, after snarling our way through traffic. At that point, there was NO parking left (and there were hundreds of cars behind me). So we finally parked illegally and went in only to discover there was NO place left to sit. The final straw was no coffee left ;o).

Obviously my bookkeeper could not stand all day or sit on the floor and I doubt that there would have been any or enough lunch, so we left. All around a wasted day for myself and my staff.

My husband works for the airlines, so I also totally understand the concept of overbooking for no shows, but this was completely overboard. When I called their office to express my frustration, I was told I could only email my complaint and I never received a response. Again, not very good customer service. This was originally my husband's ideal and he was greatly saddened that some of his 'heroes' would be associated with such a inconsiderate firm.

Who are they trying to kid? I called for $4.95 tickets, and they were sold out! Then the ad still runs in paper that they are almost sold out; then I try on line order as paper advertisment suggests and it has connection error! Oh, but sure they have plenty of space for $29.95. Who are they tring to kid here?? Psst!

The real title of this seminar should be “Get Motivated…Republicans!” This was a cliché-ridden, one-sided, ideological display of the Republican platform with enthusiastic infomercials spread throughout. The pandering of the presenters and speakers to the largely ultraconservative audience was so obvious that it might as well as have been sponsored by the NRA. The fact that they disguise this cheesy little old fashioned tent revival as a business seminar is preposterous. The only business tip I got was the idea to chorale a bunch of suckers into an arena, appeal to their patriotism and sentimentality with references to God, Apple Pie, and the American Way, and then sneakily weave in my get rich quick schemes and Dr. Phil-pseudo-psychological bull crap. There wasn’t anything motivating about it, other than it will motivate me not to ever waste my time at one of these things again. Not to mention it was the most disorganized event I’ve ever attended. Nobody knew what to do, or how to do it. The only thing they got right was when to shoot off the fireworks, and when to throw out those silly beach balls. The moderator was incredibly smarmy. There were way too many evangelistic references to the “big man upstairs” and speakers raising their hands to the sky crying out “you better get right with The Lord”. This event was billed as a business seminar and the last time I walked into a meeting at my office, I don’t remember anyone shouting out loud for The Lord to give them strength. In today's Corporate environment such religious zealousness is not appropriate or appreciated. A person's religious choice is a deeply personal matter, and it should not be a central theme to an event supposedly designed for business professionals. The only redeeming aspect of this whole debacle was Rudy Guiliani, who gave an excellent speech on leadership. Its too bad that I had to wade through the rest of the horsecrap to hear it.

Well, I just attented the Get Motivated seminar in Oklahoma City and I enjoyed parts of it i.e. Rudy and Colin but when they drew the name for the $10, 000 giveaway (the winner must be present to win) and they couldn’t say the name fast enough and they rushed (I mean rushed…) to get the wheel of names off of the stage. Why were they in such a rush? It’s not like anyone needed the stage..there were not anymore speakers. And don’t think they don’t know the names of the suburbs around the city so they can make up a name and pick some suburb that the winner supposedly lives in.

Why didn’t they invite the winner up to the stage that won the LCD tv? Why wasn’t the winners in our local paper?

I do think they gave away the trip to Disneyland but I think that’s it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. It made me really think that I should NOT have left my credit card # and think that the other seminars are really just a scam.

A Lion in Sheep's Clothing - The worst case of "Switch and Bait" tactics ever!

A motivational seminar sounds innocent enough. Who among us doesn’t need a little motivation once in a while. With the economy the way it is, most of us need a boost. Wouldn’t it be even better if such a seminar included speakers such as Colin Powell, Laura Bush, Rudy Giuliani, and Terry Bradshaw to lure thousands of these people into a big venue arena. It would be better yet if the arena was filled with giant jumbotron televisions, some exhilarating music, fireworks and a light show.

Well, a company called “Get Motivated” is doing that very thing. The only problem is that they are using the stage as a platform for perpetuating a giant fraud. They are ambushing the unsuspecting audience when they least expect it and when they are most vulnerable. It is fraud and deception at its worse. They’re dangling carrots in front of the horse and then bringing in the vultures later to clean out their pocket books.

These famous speakers are being dooped and so are all the attendees. The venue promises the big celebrities but nothing is said, about having to listen to 3 get rich speakers that aren’t even on their posted agenda. The “Lowes” (who run the seminars) are pulling off a scam to rip people off. Caveat emptor or let the buyer beware doesn’t really hold true when the captive audience is at the prey of their deception and deceit. The audience is highly vulnerable in this setting and are easy victims in their emotional state of trying to learn to be successful. Their highly unethical and possible criminal approach to promising people riches isn’t necessarily new but it has definitely taken on a new approach with their wide scope of celebrity speakers as a decoy. Their big venue approach in soliciting unsuspecting and susceptible targets for their deception has taken on a whole new meaning of fraud.

Perhaps the biggest scam in this, is hiding the highly suspect “Investools” company under the name of “Wealth Magazine Investor Education”. This “Investools” company is under investigation from almost every Attorney General’s office in the United States. (check out the internet for scams and rip off reports for both this company and “Get Motivated”. They are selling a $3950 dollar, 2 day course in day trading, for an unbelievable price of $99 with the idea that you will get rich from their award winning software. What they don’t tell you is that after the course, you will not be able to use the complete software without taking an advanced course for as much as a $1000 more and then after that course, taking another PHD course for as much as $10, 000 or more. The illusion is that you can get rich for $99 but the reality is that they will keep after you until you use up all the money on your credit cards plus whatever else you can borrow.

I think it is one thing for such a seminar to sell their books and CD’s but these events are designed to suck you in and bleed you dry. I saw about 15, 000 people pack the Wells Fargo Center in Des Moines, Iowa on the 17th of September and maybe as many as 5000 or more bought in to their hype.

Attended today in Springfield Mo. I agree with all of the comments above. I will admit that my expectations were low to begin with. I was part of a law enforcement group in attendance and we were naturally a bit suspicious and skeptical to begin with. The most I expected to partially enjoy was hearing from General Powel, he was ok. The Indiean speaker (name escapes me) was also good nad he had nothing to sell, just a free message to love your family and do what's right. What a disgusting, cheesey bunch of used car salesmen the others were. I was absolutely shocked to watch the 10000 person audience as they danced around, hugged, clapped and yelled. I wondered if I was the only one who wasn't buying the BS. I was very happy to be watching from a private suite where I did not have to actually interact with the sheep in the audience. The attendees were running to the tables to give away their credit card information. The information provided was mostly generic, I guess it was the attempt to get the desperate "Amway", late night infomercial kind of people to believe and follow, leave them wanting more. Total scam presentation mixed with a couple of interesting historical speakers. I literally felt like I was in an infomercial or a damn Direct TV internet satellite commercial with the loud mouth superficial MC. Zig Ziglar was escorted on stage by his daughter. He couldn't speak clearly or maintain a thought. He didn't know what to call a soldier, she told him three times and he just called them the guys in uniform. He repeated his opening comments three times and had no isea that he had done it. His daughter finally led him off of the stage and they played video footage of past speeches. It was sad and I definately had the feeling that his adult children are just dragging his disoriented old body around the country to collect the fees. In my opinion it was borderline criminal.

All in all, it totally sucked, what a complete scam. Wise up people, the seminar may be inexpensive but your time is more valuable then this seminar, trust me.

I went for about 15 minutes. They oversold the arena and there were not seats available. That was frustrating!!! Agree with the opinions above, crazy... Did anyone actually win the tv or the $10, 000 cash? Was John Q the lucky winner??

Thanks, rickey leee, for laying out the whole story so well! It would be interesting to hear from some of those who actually handed over their credit card info at one of those seminars. i.e. what charges have since "unexpectedly shown up" on their card - and/or what kinds of follow-on pressures are they being subjected to by these wolves.
I was saddened to read where George W. Bush was talked into (probably by Laura) showing up for one of those stand-up, stage-stooge appearances in December. Let's hope he wises up and thinks better of it before then. Wouldn't want to see him standing in the defendants' dock next to Jimmy Johnson some day.

Get Motivated seminar was bad. Agreed that it would have been better to be more forthright about the other speakers and the faith based message. I signed up for the Wealth Magazine 2 day seminar for $49 was well worth it. There was no "Get rich" scheme taught and as expected more to it then just buy at green / sell as red.

In the seminar several advanced trading strategies were shown and discussed and there were several attempts to get folks to purchase the advanced education for high dollars $5, 000 to $20, 000. They even made one more pitch after they asked those who purchased already to leave the room.

If the advanced education was not for you, Instructors did a great job and several takaways were given that can help any investor look at a stock or market in general. No more chance at losing another 50% of 401K investment after attending these two days!
