I applied for the amazon.com store credit card on the amazon website. I have a very good credit score of 893. To my greatest surprise, I was declined for the reason: unable to identify identity.
I have been a loyal amazon.com customer for years and never had a problem.
I called several times and offered to provide any information needed.
When I expressed several times to the credit manager that this could be a case of discrimantion, she never refuted, nor stated that GE money bank does not engage in discriminatory lending practices.
What a shame that a company like amazon.com has such a questionnable financial partner!

I just applied for Amazon.com's store card on their web site for a 24-month interest-free financing special. I've been shopping on Amazon.com for years and I always felt they were a "company" I could trust. In the ad for the store card, they say you'll get a response in as little as 30 seconds. Well, 30 minutes later, I haven't heard anything. Interestingly enough, after I submitted my application for the store card, a screen came up with a confirmation # that the system said I should note; however, I didn't have a piece of paper handy, and so I went into the other room, got a post-it note to write on, went back to my computer, and the screen with the confirmation # was gone (I couldn't even bring it up in my web browser's history).

In the last 30 minutes or so, I've read other blogger's complaints about applying for this store card, one person who claims he got scammed (how true that is, I don't know, but I sure hope I'm not going to become an identity theft victim again).

This whole experience has totally lowered my view of Amazon.com and I don't know if I can continue recommending people to use their web site based on this experience, as I'm utterly disgusted with the whole thing right now.

As they say, some things are just too good to be true (24-month interest-free payments for purchasing a new computer -- yeah, right!).

Who knows, maybe I'll hear something back from the GE money bank who this whole thing is through, but I have little confidence in that happening, again based on other blogs I've read. I feel like I've been suckered into something that doesn't exist, and I still can't believe that a reputable company like Amazon.com would be involved in what could very well be a scam.

It's 2:00 AM right now and I need to go to sleep, but I feel stressed because of this, partly because I'm hoping to God that I don't become a victime of identity theft again (this happened to me a couple of years ago and it was a horrible experience I wouldn't want to repeat). Hopefully this is not going to be an identify theft situation, but there's no way of knowing until (0r if) it happens, and so without that certainty, my excitement due to some things that have gone well recently is now gone and I'm saddened and worried about this whole thing.

I could go on and on about this, but I do have to get to sleep.

So if any of you are considering applying for one of these so called "Amazon.com store cards", I would say forget about it and move on, as it seems this is one of those situations where things that sound too good and too enticing are often not true.

Best wishes to you all.
