My wife and I have had some horrible experiences with the collection department of Farmers Furniture. We ran into financial difficulties in late March 2010, due to my wife's husband losing his job thus he was unable to pay all of his child support regularly for 3 month's. My wife also underwent major back surgery on April 22, 2010.
We ran behind on many bills and we are still in the process of catching up. Every creditor has been wonderful in helping us to set up payments to catch up.
Farmers Furniture on the other hand was a nightmare! The Farmers Furniture account is in my name only. Georiga law is not a community property state, therefore they were not allowed to discuss this account with my wife without my express consent. However that did not stop them from harrassing her and upsetting her while she was recovering from her back surgery. She told them multiple times that she was in no condition to have them speak with her.
They continued to call my wife. Our account with them in April 2010 was only 28 days late. I received a call telling me that if I did not pay before the account went 31 days late, my account would be sent to their legal department and I would be sued. I was blown away to say the least. I sold what I could and went to pay the payment.
They continued to harrass my wife and threaten her with my account being sent to the legal department where I would be sued. She was beside herself. She was having to deal with getting back to walking, and other things from her back surgery. Every day was a struggle for her. She still cries over the pain she has 4 months out of surgery.
The harrassment and threats she continued to received from the local Farmers furniture prompted her to call the main office to speak with the legal department. She told the woman who answered the issue we were having. She promised to have someone call my wife back. The regional manager (or we believe that is what he is) called my wife back. They spoke and she told him about all the incidents.
My wife has a paralegal background and knew that the local Farmers Furniture had broken many of The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. She relayed all the laws that had been broken to the regional manager. He promised to contact the store and tell them they were not to ever speak with my wife again nor call her cellular phone.
We are very upset by this. My wife suffers from Bi-Polar and the events that took place with farmers furniture made her very depressed. She even had to have her anti-depressant changed over the incident with Farmers Furniture.
We are wondering if anyone else has been threatened by Farmers Furniture or has their information regarding their delinquint account (which ours has never been over 45 days late while trying to catch up) been told to other people, which is illegal under the law stated above.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
About Jan 29 2023 saw ad 24mts 0% big sale I called gave info ask for later they called me said approved $2500 I went in pick out wanted . Total 2590 I put 1000 dn at 0% 100mt till pay off. Three days later items came. I called them ask weres paperwork said wasn't approved yet said what you said was again not approved yet went to store told payment 148 at 28% said no way not deal we had. Told 3m pick it up not doing it. Didn't need or have to could paid cash the 0% save my cash same thing but know it's really getting harder to talk to em first said I was denied 0% then payment jumps up also interest did said I'll just payoff how much jumps up 4490 noway Itens total 2500 how could that be said it's fiance charge added to remaining balance said u paying cash they just look at me saus don't get it again pick up stuff never came instead man comes shows worksheet has my signature an another 8tem added to be it riding lawnmower I didn't buy lawnmower you dmdudbt deliver one you deliver tiller he says I know u don't get it I said let me see paper he wouldn't let go I look it's paperwork from over 3 years ago when went there to buy one an didn't someone had added items just bought to it he said I'll be back something wrong said you think. He comes back got different papers says items bought plus life insurance credit insurance an unemployment insurance that cost more that what I owe said who's doing this it's got my signature again I never ever would bought insurance don't haven't ever had it don't believe bun it a waste of money he just look at me then says u need money for payment what your picking up right now wasn't told to. Said look pulling out wallet take this 200 out on bill I'll just payoff acct he reduced it say me come up o store. No way I'm going back there y'all got life insurance on me your kidding he left another man comes says I am rin the new manager don't worry going straight this out I go into my story he cuts me off says I owe more money said sir how you know what deal is an owe you wasn't there said girl told him said get her man let's talk this out said no I fired them wow for what lazy said come on up pay payment same thing other man said no in not here 100 he takes it off goes later get letter on door I owe 3100 then mail comes says since can't get me on phone they never called they came house alot once to come in home just see if stuff was here y'all not coming in well we can ab I see our dryer right there u can take it take it u told y'all 3x to pick it up even now take all of it give me back my money first dusbt di it just getting drive bys people parking in driveway somebody broke my carport door can't say I know who didn't see en just odd after 25 ters living here get weird stuff happening I don't know how things turn this way everything before I had bought finance there nothing like this happen was one main reason went back cause they treated us good ab now had money to pay cash decided zero percent sane thing keep my cash at the beginning the said got be approved that my credit was excellent with them ab a 1999 dn I was approved then this different papers says different balances I wonder were went wrong. It's easy me to add 3 items 2500 minus 1000 dn then another 250 dn comes to 1250 left not 3100 as last letter says that total of 4500 I paid not true this all this happens not worth it should paid cash first day then be friends now hopefully we can still be. If can I still finance at zei percent on 1250 balance like agree to or ill ju
My complaint is about the Farmers Furniture in Sylacauga Alabama. The two gentlemen that came to deliver my outdoor furniture one who was nice the other one however threaten to shoot my dog if he was to break off his chain. In detail my dog was at least 50-60 foot from the men and has never broken off. I called the local farmers furniture store and all the manager had to say was I’m sorry. I have attempted several times and left numerous messages with Human Resources about the situation and no one has returned any of my calls.
I'm currently going thru the same situation. I'm filing a lawsuit now, I'm 6 months pregnant and these folks find joy in harassing me and my family. I work for the government and the shutdown that we experienced earlier this year really set us back on payments. They have sent out my account info including dollar amounts to the parents of my close friends, its getting really embarrassing and illegal.
I like the Farmers Furniture in Union City. The late fee is outrageous though. They should wave a late fee for people who are late for the 1st time.

At first farmers furniture was nice as ever to us. We became late on our payment because of moving to another place. In other words I was two months behind. They called everyday and sent someone out to talk to us about the payment. The gentleman that came out was very nice. He told me if you can bring anything in it would help. That the company didn't wont to sue me. They wanted to work with their customers. Which was a lie! I went to the Store two days later to give them a half of payment. Was going in the next following week to take them the rest. And I would be caught up. They wouldn't take my money when I got there. It w ill mess up the lawsuit. That was what I was told. Now they are calling me again. And I'm being sued! Never use this place again
My complaint is about Ms. Potts who works at the Morrow Ga location.. We had spoken with a couple other employees about making arrangements for our payment being late due to some financial problems.. She called yelling at me and I was trying to explain to her that we had spoken to someone she told me that I was lieing. So when she stopped yelling long enough for me to tell her who I had spoken with she told me that he was a nobody.. Then she hung up on me!
