Expedia.com Mixed Experiences with Expedia.com

As someone who values convenience and reliability when booking travel, my experiences with Expedia.com have been quite mixed. While the platform offers a wide range of options and competitive prices, the customer service and transparency have left much to be desired. I've encountered issues with canceled bookings, misleading pricing, and unhelpful responses from support agents. It's disappointing to see such potential overshadowed by inconsistent service. Despite some positive aspects, the overall experience with Expedia.com has been underwhelming.

Expedia.com Bait and switch

Purchased tickets for trip from Chicago to Rome round trip, Basic Economy was $663 total per ticket and to change to Main cabin was $843 that INCLUDED seat choice, no change fees, etc. We paid the extra $180 per ticket for the Main cabin upgrade. We were able to choose our seats on American Airlines from Chicago to Heathrow but our connecting flight, American Airlines (operated by British Airlines) would not let us choose our tickets. Called expedia multiple times, they kept saying we did not pay to choose our seats and we had to pay British Airlines and even though it was a connecting flight, we only paid for American Airlines seat choice. No where on Expedia did it say that we were only paying for seat choice on the AA flight. We paid for a round trip ticket with seat choice.

Expedia.com Do not manage your trip using the virtual agent!

Contacted Expedia to change flight return time, in less than 24hrs.

Request made to vitrual agent, that only the return flight time needed to be changed and that no other reservation was to be affected. Becasue the change was less than 24hrs after booking is was recommended that the flight be cancelled and re-booked.

We selected the option to cancel the flight. There was lag time between the responses. We reiterated we only wanted to cancel the flight multiple times.

Confirmation was sent and confirmed as completed in sucession that the "hotel was cancelled". We had no way to confirm or deny the request prior to it's completion. The system needs to have a fail safe that allows the customer to confirm prior to the agent actually finalizing.

We contacted a live agent online within this same conversation who informed us they were unable to do anything and the hotel could not be refunded. We then made a phone call to a live agent within minutes to try and remedy this situation. We then got on the phone with a live agent who informed us they were going to cancel everything remaining and we would have to re-book the entire trip. They would issue a refund, but there was no way for them to un-cancel the Hotel even though it happened in error minutes prior. We contacted the hotel directly regarding the situation with no response.

We re-booked our entire trip through expedia, air, hotel and car rental the same day so we would not loose the flight and hotel options. We went back to check to make sure everything was cancelled and the car rental was still booked. We had to call expedia again to remedy the situation. They again had to file a request for refund and we have to wait 72hrs for a response.

1.Your virtual agent system needs to allow for an additional confirmation when canceling any reservation.

2.The live agent did not complete the entire cancellation when requested.

3.I am not saying I am not whithout fault but when you can select one button inadvertantly and it can cost you hundereds of dollars after you specified that you did not want to do that very thing, something is wrong.

Currently we have had to eat the cost of the hotel and are awaiting response regarding the refund for the car rental.

Expedia.com No way to contact expedia unless you have a working email

Due to hacking of my email account with my former employer (retaining the email account was part of my retirement package) and the primary IT person retiring in April of this year I am no longer able to access that email account. I have tried to change my account on line with Expedia, but it wants to send a code to the old account. I have tried emailing and got the same instructions I already had. There seems that there is no way to talk to a real human unless you have an actual reservation. I am ok with starting a new account except for two issues1. I have about 30 additional individuals saved under my account and do not want to rebuild that list and I have $ that I have not used.

Expedia.com Worst Service ever

I tried to book a ticket using existing credit with airlines. I was not booked, and I had to pay more than ticket rate. There were many more repeated calls without resolving the issue. No one came back and worst part is call center is in Cairo, Egypt. The voice and communication with the agent were not clear. Spend almost three hours to get the ticket and nothing happened,

Compalined to TD rewards but they said they can't help since its different department.

I lost money. Never again with Expedia-TD

Expedia.com hotel reservation

We made a reservation for August 3 - 4th at the Travelodge, 1950 NW Vine Street, Grant's Pass, Oregon 97526. Confirmation number: 84603EC010059.

Upon arrival, the room was not ready, but smelled strongly of smoke. We had reserved a non-smoking room. The attendant offered us another room, which also was not ready. That was about 3pm. We left for over an hour, and upon returning, the door to the room was still standing open, the trash had not been cleared, the bathroom was filthy as was the room. There were several overflowing large ashtrays in the outside hallways. There were very few cars in the parking lot, but by this time in the afternoon, lots of men who looked like street people, hanging around the outside.

We decided that we could not spend the night in this hotel. We asked for a refund and the clerk said that because we had occupied the room (we had not, it wasn't even cleaned yet) that we did not qualify for a refund. He stamped our transaction receipt with a forward time stamp, which we didn't notice at the time, of 8:54pm. By that time we were well on our way home to Sacramento, CA.

When we asked why there were so many men hanging around and did they have a homeless population they said they didn't... but had what they called "long term guests". The whole place felt unsafe, and reeked of cigarette smoke. Nothing on Expedia prepared us for what we encountered.

Our whole trip was ruined. After driving for 6 hours from Sacramento, CA and intending on spending the night in Grant's Pass and exploring Oregon the next day, instead, after spending approximately two hours in Grant's Pass, we had to turn around and drive home.

We want our money back. That's the very least we should be entitled to.

Expedia.com customer service

I am a customer of expedia.com who has used this website NUMEROUS times over the years to book flights/hotels. My customer information is [protected]@pfl-law.com; my3boys3. I have credits at Expedia.com that I have been trying to use. I called a few weeks ago and was told after I book my next trip, call them and give them reference number E-[protected]. Manager Kayla gave this information. It is 558.00 in credits. I got this information out of them after being on the call for almost an hour and a half. WHILE AT WORK. So today I booked a trip and called to use the credits. The representative told me he had to book my trip and then apply credits. After one hour on the phone he still hadn't booked my trip. He asked for my address THREE TIMES. Asked for my credit card information numerous times. I asked him what he was doing so long and he ignored me. For 10 minutes he kept repeating my name every 2 minutes - but not speaking to me. He has earlier told me he could not apply my credits that AFTER he made my arrangements he would transfer me to customer service. I finally hung up after he was not talking to me. He then called me back on my cell phone and again asked for my address! I hung up again. I then made my own flight and hotel reservations on their website - it took all of 2 minutes. My itinerary number is [protected]. ALL I WANT IS MY 558.00 CREDIT TO BE APPLIED. I called back and was on hold for 25 minutes with no one picking up the line. I am beyond frustrated. This credit is owed to me. And the treatment I received from their representatives is disgusting.

Expedia.com the rental car ad was not the same as my final cost

I used expedia for air ticket or hotel and rental car. They always has the final total included all local taxes. I just used them - hartz, I did not pay expedia, but I got the total from the itinerary, showing the grand total. But after I finished one week car rental, the total bill is 56.00 extra, they said is with the taxes, and I said expedia gave me the different total. Hartz said because the total need to add taxes. I think the expedia misleading me for using them, and they did not admit their wrong doing. Meanwhile the credit card refused to dispute my charges. I am telling everyone not to use expedia, and hartz, they are all liars

Expedia.com holiday package

Dear Expedia

I recently purchased a holiday package for the first time on Expedia because I had heard great things about it. I usually use last minute.com.au After booking a flight from Sydney to New York City with hotel accomodation, I discovered (AFTER making the payment) that the price indicated online was in US dollars rather than Australian dollars, increasing my expenditure by AUD 1335.72.

Then I read on my receipt from Expedia that the hotel will charge me an ADDITIONAL USD75 per night for 8 nights, which equates to an additional USD 600 = AUD 780.

So the total amount originally advertised on Expedia.com is in fact less than the amount I will need to pay by AUD 2115.72.

My bank statement also has an unexplained pending amount from Delta Air for AUD 2720.

Please explain why this amount is pending and what can be done about the hidden cost that the hotel will charge which Expedia failed to include in its advertised price. To reveal this pending cost AFTER payment is made for a "holiday package" is simply false advertising.

My itinerary is # [protected]

Jennifer

Expedia.com flight booking

I booked. Business class flights larnaca to St. Louis by Expedia for 7th June and return on 26th June. Itinerary number [protected] and got a confirming email saying I am booked and I don't need to call again.
When I reached the airport at 4AM this morning, I was told there were no bookings.
I called Expedia and after 29minutes holding an international call' the call got dropped. Called again and Michael at the GOLD DESK said their systems were being maintained and so he couldn't help me.
Called again after 2 hours and was told they are investigating the matter and I need to book flights afresh in the meantime. Had to buy economy as business is currently at $4500 instead of the approx $2700 I originally paid.
Spent 1 hour and 49 minutes speaking to Te supervisor Jack and with no solution and no apologies.
Also spent €120 on taxis going and coming from Nicosia to Larnaca and back.
Spend 3 hours on international calls.
Now they say my card didn't get charged but the email said I'm booked and don't need to reconfirm.
I just lost my father on April 22nd and didn't need this additional trauma.
I do reserve the rights to take action against Expedia for causing me a days delay and forcing me to travel economy

Expedia.com refund

Flight cancelled by airline - no fault of my own - still no refund after 4 months!
Back in oct 2017, while in vacation in romania, i've received an email form expedia regarding my return flight from iasi to bucharest being canceled. I've been trying to get my money back since then, no success. They've been assuring me for a while that they are working on it then they just started to completely ignore my emails altogether. I tried to get my money back through my credit card company (the card I used to buy the ticket with) but the purchase was done a long time before the flight and I can only dispute purchases done within the past 6 months.

Expedia.com customer service for flight refund/credit

Name: Iris Ingram
Itinerary Number: [protected]
On May 19, 2016, I made a reservation (2 round trip tickets from Los Angeles, California to Naples, Italy departing July 5, 2106). Due to a US State Department Travel Advisory warning Americans about travel to France during the month of July, I decided to cancel the reservation.
On June 4, 2016. I spoke to a customer service representative for over an hour on that date, and was told that the itinerary had been cancelled. Yet, I never received a confirmation of the cancellation. He gave me the email address to file a travel insurance claim, but apparently NEVER cancelled my trip as requested. Ever since that date, I have been receiving email from Expedia reminding me of my upcoming travel. On July 5, I again called Expedia to inquire about my trip cancellation and was placed on hold for over an hour. When no one came on the line, I was forced to hang up. I then called Air France directly, and discovered that my trip had never been cancelled by Expedia! I had to start again and cancel my reservation through Air France. Since the ticket is non-refundable, I attempted to re-book another flight with Air France only to be told that I would have to re-book the flight through Expedia again. I spent the next 4 hours in various phone conversations with customer service reps at Expedia who each tediously repeat the process over again from the beginning, only to put me on hold and come back to the line and repeat what they just did. This time, I got as far as re-booking the flight on Delta (Air France's code share). Half-way through the booking process, when I tried to confirm the fare differential and other fees with the Expedia rep (I paid $3300 for the 2 roundtrip tickets to Europe), she told me that she could not complete the transaction and that I had to speak with the Delta Airlines Rep who would explain the fees and fares. A rep from Delta Airlines then got on the line and told me, that only Expedia could complete the transaction, that I should have been re-booked the day I cancelled my reservation (per Air France rules), and that the Expedia staff do not read or understand the fare rules because his airline "..gets these cases all the time..", and further, because my original trip was scheduled to leave today, I have already lost my money because of the failure of Expedia to follow Air France's fare rules. No where on the website of Expedia.com is this information spelled out. Nor did the rep from Air France explain this when I managed to get through to them and cancel earlier today.

I have been told three different stories by 3 different airlines, and I am still without the airline tickets I purchased or the $3, 300 that I have spent.

I have not been able to get through to anyone at Expedia who either understands what they are doing, or understands English well enough to communicate what they are doing to solve my problem.

Expedia.com cancellation refund - paris package with protection??

I bought a Flight + package deal on Sept 30th, for an itenarary (#[protected]) at Dec 19-21. I also bought the extra Travel protection from Expedia.com; where i was convinced this was to be used in any case something goes wrong. And then, something DID go wrong and there were security concerns around Paris; so i decided not to take the family trip, trusting the Travel Protection i had in place. I needed to call Expedia.com CallCenters for many times (calling from abroad), and for many hours before i was told i was eligible for a full refund for both the hotel and the flight. So i kept waiting for an automatic refund notice; which i received; but only for USD 150 of USD 925.85 . Following this mail; i called them again; and -again after some repetetive discussions with different people on the phone- and was told, there was a mistake and the rest of the refund will be processed. When i wanted a written notice on this; i received the attached mail (here, copied in a word doc.), saying all was fine. STill, there is no refund on my account, and i hate calling them back for the hundredth time. Please process this refund and let me know asap, as this was the worst customer care i've had with any travel company!

Expedia.com hotel booking, being charged twice

The corporation I work for booked me a room, through Expedia.com, at a Comfort Inn for Thursday, December 17. The room was to be charged to the corporate account. I provided my personal credit card, for incidentals, as most hotels do. After checking out on Friday morning, December 18, I was told that there were no charges made to my personal account. On Saturday, December 19, I checked my bank account online only to find a charge of $82.73 from the same motel I had just checked out of on Friday morning. I called the motel to inquire about the charge and was told that the charge had been made by Expedia, not by the motel. I asked the motel clerk to email me a copy of the receipt, which they did not give me at the time of check out, and she did. All of this was forwarded to my supervisor, whom then called Expedia on Monday, December 21. She was told that Expedia had settled the matter with the motel and that I would be getting the funds, $82.73, back onto my card within the day. As of Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at 9:00 AM CST, the funds have not been put back into my account. In my book, this is fraud...charging not only the corporation, but the employee also. Expedia needs to be investigated by whatever agency has the authority to do so. They commit fraud, they are negligent in their business practices, and they attempt to scam corporations and individuals.
