eBay can't leave buyers negative feedback

I know this rule of eBay's has been around for several years, but it continues to be a tremendous annoyance. eBay is so eager to bend over backwards to please the buyers that they will place the sellers - the ones who eBay charges for use of the site - at the absolute mercy of the customers. I remember a time when a seller could leave a buyer negative feedback because they made the transaction difficult, didn't pay, lied, and so forth. Now, though, you can't say that even if the buyer has been a pain in the neck. Well, you *can* but you can still only either leave positive feedback and hope someone reads the negative comment or leave no feedback at all. Either way, all buyers come out with 100% positive feedback at a glance while sellers can easily get dinged.

Some sellers deserve the bad rating, I will admit, but a buyer can easily give a seller a bad review just because they felt like doing so. It's incredibly unbalanced and you have to worry it the person you sell to is going to nick your perfect feedback record because the corner of the box their order arrived in was slightly bent.

eBay needs to change this because it's way too easy for jerk customers to ruin a seller's reputation. It's not like eBay has much competition, if any at all. When most people think of online auction sites, a vast majority think eBay. Whose business would they lose if they let sellers be honest about bad customers? People who complain and scream until they get a refund on a perfectly good item? I know sellers aren't always totally innocent and they can be scammers just as much as the buyers, but you can't scrutinize one party and not the other. It's simply unfair. I sell on eBay now and then and I constantly have to worry that someone I sell to will find some problem with their item and give me bad feedback...meanwhile I can't say anything bad about them at all.

eBay No refund for lemon computer

During one month AllPCZone built computer had two catastrophic crashes. After the first crash this company requested me to ship the hard drive for exchange. I had to pay on my own for shipping. After i received replacement hard drive and set up all work environment (took few days), AllPCZone built computer crashed again - so badly that i lost again days of work. I emailed to support / customer service asking full refund for this computer including shipping costs as i cannot trust anymore computers built by AllPCZone and already lost days of work. They refused to refund saying: "you remain civil and professional"; "Electronics are subject to failure at any time for any reason. This is unfortunately the nature of electronics."; "You are not qualified receive a refund of any kind at this time".
This computer was sold as the top-of-the-line by computer part but the quality of work that was done by AllPCZone was only good enough to get through little over 30 days - their grace period of no question asked return policy: two catastrophic failures during one month after two months of ownership. For programming computer multiple times exchange is unacceptable - it takes days to recover. We cannot afford to "test" AllPCZone's work.

Only complaint that I can find on the web. Check ebay and reseller ratings, this company is a 9 out of 10 at least. Will probably buy from them.

The fact that you made an account specifically bash a single company, and you being their only complaint "on this site", makes you look like an imbecile. Also since every complaint I've read towards this company has gotten a speedy, and informative reply. This lends credit to their intelligence and dutifulness towards their customers. I'd suggest you take them up on their offer.

Customer purchased this unit without Operating System from us. The first failure that he had was his OS crashed, he thought it was the hard drive, we repalced the hard drive but later on found when we recieved the defective hard drive back it turned out that the OS was partitioned the wrong way causing registry errors, all that had to be done was the OS to be re-installed and partitioned correctly which is this case it was not. Of course that was our fault, even though we only sold the hardware not the software. We have absolutely no clue what the 2nd failure is since customer is refusing to talk to us, we will gladly help if customer so wishes.

eBay unfair unethical business practice

I am a self-employed small businessman, who is a first generation LEGAL immigrant from China. I have been buying and selling items on eBay since Apr. 2004 with 306 positive feeedbacks(100%). Today is Thanksgiving Day 2011. I am grateful for what I have achieved in USA, which is the greatest country on earth!

I will expose one of the biggest "Scamster", which is eBay itself:
In Aug, 2011, I sold a Nikon 18-70 AF-S zoom lens for $154 with "Free Shipping" and an inspection period for return privilege(Item # [protected]). I received payment and shipped zoom. The buyer decided to return it. I refunded the money and got the zoom back. eBay charged me a $13.95 for a "Final Fee" for the zoom lens. They said if I refund the money to the buyer, I would get a refund on the first "Final Fee".
Then I offered the zoom to the second high bidder of the same auction, eBay changed the "Item number to [protected]", and charged the second "Final Fee" of $13.95. So on record, it looked like I sold two items on eBay when in fact I only sold one item. I guess eBay is "Cooking Their Books" after Bernie Madoff.
I have complaint about 4-5 time whenever there was a survey email, asking them about this type of "Unethical, Unfair business Practice". I have not received any answer from eBay. I filed a complaint with the "Federal Trade Commission-FTC" regarding the above matter.
On Thanksgiving morning at 2:34am EST, I received an email from eBay, with a subject line reads "MC007 EBI NOTICE: Payment method has been removed from your account". For no reason given, they removed my "Payment Method", which means that I would have to pay money into my eBay account in advance for some listings.
I just want to warm the public how "Unethical, Unfair, Arrogant, and Greedy" eBay has become over the years. "Unfair, Unethical Business Practice" hurt all AMERICANS. eBay has team of people sending solicitation emails (offering many kind of great deals for the consumers), and doing seminars every where. But they do not have any manpower to address their ethical issues. I believe in fair trade relationship. Business needs to make profit. But eBay's business practice has gotten more and more Unethical over the years. Many people have taken their business to other websites.

I believe I am not the ONLY one eBay has taken advantage of. But we "the people" will not remain silent about these wrong doings of these corporations and politicians any more!

God bless America! God will punish the Unethical, Unfair people!

For the public record: the below is the email I received from "eBay Customer Support":

Hello guangzhu88 ([protected]@netscape.net),
We've removed the payment method that you had on file. Please keep in mind that if there is no payment method on file for your account, you'll be subject to a listing limit. Once you have reached this limit, you won't be able to list any new items until after you've made a payment or placed a credit card on file.
One alternative is to make advance payments. These payments are credited to your account and used when you incur fees. To learn about ways to pay your eBay seller fees, including advance payments, please go to:

eBay does not care whether you have a business, your on the brink of bankruptcy, you have a family of 4, your dying of cancer, you only have days to live or any other horrible tragedy. They simply don't. They will just outright suspend you without thinking twice and blaming you for the causes.

Not to mention the reps they hire are completely useless. They just give you the runaround and never a definitive answer. Had gone through months of trying to scrape by with the mortgage and paying the business expenses with credit cards because of eBay. Couldn't sell anymore.

Took desperate measures and had to forgo my account and liquidate several assets to pay my employees.

If you are in dire needs of selling again and feel like all hope is lost, I would advise checking out this guide: https://www.slideshare.net/AuctionEssistance/ebay-incognitostealth

It will teach you on how to get back on and avoid getting traced again. It may not be the best option, but when you need to make money and start selling again, it may be the only option.

sent the letter included below to eBay in December 2012 with no acknowledgment. I have several emails from eBay and spoke with them as recently as Saturday June 1, 2013- on which date I was told if I paid an outstanding balance of $8.95 my account would be reinstated in 24 hours. I paid it immediately and my account remained suspended. I called again on June 3, 2013 and was told if I enrolled a credit card as an eBay fees backup payment method, then my account would be reinstated immediately. It was not and is not. I called again on June 4, 2013 and was informed that because I had a number of unpaid item cases that I was banned for life on eBay. I asked to speak with someone to appeal that decision based on the fact that I was in a very abusive relationship with a man determined to do everything he could to hurt me emotionally, physically, financially and socially. He had access to all of my passwords, my computer, ipod, phone and phone records, banking, credit cards and he set forth to discredit me and succeeded. Every single bank, credit card company, family member, health care worker has worked with me to restore my credibility and fix the damage done except eBay- the one I depend on to earn a living. They will not allow me to appeal with documentation of the severe abuse he subjected me to and blame me for the damage he did and will not reconsider any legal, physician's statement, letters of support from domestic violence advocates, proof of me changing all my accounts, phone number and because he could access that account on my computer, they have let him do the worst damage imaginable- I have suffered terrible economic losses and uncertainty over being banned from selling on eBay without any consideration for reasons that has ever been fully articulated- I can no longer support myself at all and have had no luck finding work. I am on the verge of becoming homeless and have no way to pay for my room I rent, phone, medicine, bus pass and buy my cat food. My parents are deceased and my siblings cannot or will not help- I have exhausted all help my friends can offer. I can't believe that a company of this size and importance doesn't have any policies regarding victims of domestic violence - of course I cannot be the only person to discover selling on eBay as a way to support oneself and get out- problem is he installed software on my computer and abused all my personal information- he even sent private pictures to my family and friends - can anyone help me with this? How can a company be so capricious and dishonest and outright ruin someone's life when by their own admission my compliance with their rules and policies was always high and my feedback 100% positive? Can someone PLEASE help me? You don't know me. I am not anyone notable. I have been absent from the world at large for years only having just begun to re-emerge after escaping an abusive relationship that continues to threaten to swallow me alive leaving no trace of my existence. I have no money, no list of distinguished accomplishments. My parents are deceased and having grown up in dysfunction, I have no other family, no relatives to whom I can turn to for help. Like most battered women, I have no friends -developing any type of friendship was prohibited by my abuser. After 2 hospitalizations and having nearly succeeded in ending my own life to escape the intolerable conditions in which I was intimidated and coerced to exist- I knew I had to escape which meant I had to have some means with which to support myself - Extricating oneself from domestic violence is near impossible without help -i am afraid to. Seek regular employment because my abuser. Is determined to destroy me because I left. I was able to escape by opening a clandestine eBay account and selling clothing and boxed family heirlooms on eBay... I left in March and have encountered numerous difficulties and sabotage by my former partner - by the grace of God, through eBay, I was able to break free from my abuser and manage to keep a roof over my head and get my basic needs met- and I do mean just barely!- but I am alive, I exist and I am visible again which is worth more than anyone apart from those who share my experience can ever imagine! Today, every hope I dared to have again, my ability to support myself and my freedom - actually my survival were all shattered today when eBay suspended my account because I couldn't always pay for items- which I regret and would gladly forfeit any privilege to buy on eBay if I could just keep my seller account which to me, quite literally is life or death. I have called repeatedly today- been told to stop crying and calm down as calls were lost during transfers, being left on 20 to 30 minute holds only to be told someone would call me back but I had to change my number last week due to harassment from my ex and no one seems to understand when I beg them to update my number so someone CAN call me back nor will anyone explain WHY they did this without telling me that this was about to happen- HOW did this come about? WHY no mention of this I spoke to them earlier this week I was led to believe everything was okay and I was not about to be suspended - and why they feel I had too many "not as described issues" when None have counted against me and there were 3 ever opened...but no one will speak to me and explain what happened or why I wasn't instructed that this was imminent- they restricted my buying privilege for 7 days, reinstated it yesterday and then suspended my account indefinitely today and tell me if I try to open another account they'll suspend it too...I am desperate for information- for an opportunity to right where I have erred and have more guidance - some concrete rules to follow and clear proscribed consequences not things that hit you out of the blue- I am so desperate, I am begging for your help- I know from reading your story that you are on a committee and clearly someone eBay values and is proud to be affiliated with- I have nowhere to turn and no place else to go. If I can't have my seller account restored right away- I will be homeless in 2 weeks - or forced to return to my ex where I cannot even fathom the punishing hell he will subject me to for having left- neither option is livable - that account is literally my life. I never have to be allowed to buy anything on eBay ever again- just someone please, anyone- help me at least have a chance to talk to someone or be granted only selling privileges - or some forgiveness - and FAST! I cannot make rent come January 1 without the account restored- not asking anyone for any money, any support other than to believe in me, honor the fact that while imperfect, I am doing my best to pull myself up and out of darkness ... Please! Amy Portland, OR 97218 Seller account: getexperiencedresale97229

eBay EBAY SCAM USING SHILL BIDS

John J Hallinan uses multiple accounts to make shill bids on auctions he lists on BIGJJSTUDD. He has been performing this scam for at least 2 years now. Recently he made his feedback list private so that buyers/bidders have no idea whatsoever that these accounts have close to 100% bidding history with this account.
He will also use this accounts to bid and purchase auctions from his competitors and leave negative feedback.
He will also use these accounts to place bids on competors auctions who have listed items similar to his in order to drive the price up so that the bidders will purchase from him instead. The account he uses to do this will then not pay for the auction and will disappear.
FOOFIGHTS2 is a verified account used by the same user as BIGJJSTUDD.

I do not know why anyone buys from this meat-head. He is one of the most vile and disrespectful, entitled punks on EBAY.

When I asked him if he was the one creating fake accounts and bidding my auctions up sky high, and not paying, he basically attacked me verbally and promised to destroy me.

If you are any type of re-seller, he will block you form his auctions so it is tougher to catch on to his scams, then he will bid on your stuff over and over again.

He is not even a collector and loves in a house his dad bought for him. DO NOT BUY OR SELL TO THIS TRASH!

I do not know where to start? Until I found out about this character, I used to be able to sell to Zero feedback sellers. That is, until Mr. Hallinan decided to make shill bidding using bogus accounts a weapon against other sellers.

I am now unable to provide service to any new users and potential customers due to "BigJJStudd's" underhanded tactics.

The fact that he uses these methods on auctions other than his own, makes it more than likely that he utilizes these same methods on his own auctions as well. I cannot with absolute certainty proclaim that this is a fact, as all of his feedback data regarding his "customers" is now PRIVATE - which is allowed by EBAY. How convenient.

I did discover another tool that allows me to see that BIGJJSTUDD re-lists his auctions over and over again, which most likely is the result of him using shill bids to increase the end result of the auction price, the site www.worthpoint.com. One can easily see that the EXACT same figures are re-listed over time using different cover photos from his "private" Photobucket album.

If it looks like a skunk, smells like a skunk, acts like a skunk, and other people say it is a skunk, then, most likely it is a skunk.

This guy has no morals. After seeing that he buys reproduction parts from a guy on www.yojoe.com, I did some digging and I came to find out that he definitely buys repro parts from Broken Arrow Toys.

I found this information on the Forums when I saw the "now shipping" section where the site owner places delivery confirmation numbers for what is shipping. I happened to see Hallinan and a Delivery Confirmation. I entered the Delivery Confirmation number into United States Postal Service Tracking and it showed that it was delivered to Havertown, PA.

He fails to mention any of the repro /FAKE parts that he purchased from Broken Arrow Toys and includes them with his EBAY auctions and advertises them as ORIGINAL - or just says nothing about the rare accessory. Sorry buddy, fraud by omission is still fraud.

Who knows what else he has had made by these Reproduction Casters? How many people have lost hundreds of dollars being sold cheap plastic knock offs?

Well, it just keeps getting worse. He was recently outed on several fan sites for GI JOE for selling reproduction accessory parts as the originals. He is able to obtain these through the multiple ID's he maintains on EBAY, then uses his main account to sell them. If he is caught, he pleads ignorance. For the most part, he does not even respond to accusations anymore.

Some of these reproduction pieces increase the value of his auctions tenfold. This is serious fraud. He also uses the ID NIGHTFORCEOUTBACK14.

eBay tampering of my account

I had started an online petition to make today, 11-11-11 "Close Your eBay Account Day." Today, I signed into my eBay account and clicked "Close My Account." The window that opened said, "We can't close your account at this time because: You currently have a credit balance."

Confused, I went to my account and was shocked to discover there was indeed a $0.01 credit (see image). My previous invoice was $0.95 which I paid. And this was the ONLY transaction I've had (note the date above, June through November).

I immediately called their customer service department. The man on the phone had NO IDEA where this penny credit came from. After putting me on hold to find out what's going on, he said my $0.95 payment had not yet cleared, but once it does (in two to three days), that mysterious one cent should "go away."

It is my firm belief that eBay saw my petition, KNEW I was going to close my account today, and decided to have a little fun of their own by deliberately planting this $0.01 credit into my account to make it impossible for me to close it.

eBay ebay / alltech wholesale iphone scam

Recently, eBay sent an email soliciting to purchase used Apple iPhones. I had a 3GS 32GB that was in absolutely perfect condition and was considering upgrading to a 4S. Clicked their link in the email and was taken to a page where I answered some questions about my phone's condition and printed the FedEx shipping label to send the phone to eBay for a purchase price of $155.71.

Today, I received a response indicating that my phone was not in the condition I described and the reason specified was "Item shows multiple signs of heavy wear: Deep scratches, scuffs, pitting, or other cosmetic disfigurement. However none of said wear in any way inhibits normal function of the item. The housing of the unit has sustained significant visible wear or cracking."

The phone was in a case with a screen protector installed from the minute I purchased it. There was nothing wrong with the unit and certainly nothing as described in the previous quote. I sent the phone back in the original box, with all documentation, SIM card removal tool, charger cable, and even put the factory screen protector back on.

They did, however, make a counter offer of $75.17. INSULTING!

I called the 800 number and spoke with a rep from AllTech Wholesale who placed me on hold and then stated that she could raise their counter offer to $114. I promptly told her to send my phone back and that it had better be in the same condition it was when I shipped to them.

What a TOTAL scam! I never expected this type of behavior from eBay.

Alltechwholesale is a complete sham. Don’t know how they got so many “good” reviews on eBay. Been working in the industry for awhile, and unfortunately it can be fairly simple to trick people into thinking you’re legit. Bought a phone from them, emailed them the NEXT day to tell them it was having problems but need to exchange it as I couldn’t go without a phone again just because they sent me a half working one. Unwilling to work with me, so I figured I’d deal with it and just have a phone half the time. Now JUST over a month out and it’s no longer working at all. Because I’m out of their “warranty” period (which isn’t actually a warranty), they won’t do ANYTHING. Literally, worst customer service I’ve ever dealt with. They won’t have TRS on eBay for long if this is how they treat their customers. Complete rip off.

eBay useless customer support

I recently attempted to list my Ford Taurus on cars.ebay.ca. Three calls to eBay support - taking up nearly two hours of my (and their) time - later and I'm still no closer to success.

Here's the problem. When I clicked on "sell" at cars.ebay.ca I was taken to what appeared to be a general start-listing page (I was told to "Enter a UPC, ISBN, or keywords that describe your item." - rather a strange question for someone selling a car). I was able to choose automobiles/ford/taurus and then fill out the "Create your listing" page, but when I clicked on "continue" at the bottom, the same page simply reloaded - but this time with a warning flag at the top and the message:

"We might have a product in our catalogue that matches the one you're selling. If you go back to find your product in our catalogue, we'll include product details in your listing. Using the catalogue helps buyers find your listing faster."

Nothing I did allowed me past that error to complete the listing.

The first call to support eventually saw me transferred one level higher, but that tech only told me to start a new listing and whatever had caused the problem would be overwritten. It wasn't. I was able to overwrite the Taurus listing by listing a DVD, but when I again tried to list my Taurus from cars.ebay.ca, I encountered the same problems.

The support person on the next call finally (after what seemed like 45 minutes or so of conversation and hold sessions) told me that he couldn't help me but would transfer me (I believe) to eBay Motors support. He transferred me. The phone rang once. I was disconnected.

The third call started off like the second (except that I'm getting better at moving things along and it only took a half an hour). This person, too, said that she would transfer me to eBay Motors support. However, the person who picked up the phone was on the same level as the first one (in fact, I believe she initially thought that she was the first person with whom I was speaking). Eventually, she too transferred me. The phone again rang once. I was again disconnected. This time, however, I had managed to salvage a service request reference number...although fat lot of good it would end up doing me!

In any case, my Taurus is still leaking oil on my driveway and I still can't properly access the listing features of cars.ebay.ca. I have no interest in spending more time with your telephone customer service dept.

So why on earth would eBay not allow me to send them a simple email detailing the problems so they could actually do something about it?

eBay sellers frequently list items they don't have in their inventory!

Several times now - I have purchased books off of Half.com (by eBay) to where I later found out - that the seller didn't actually have the book they listed up for sale - therefore they had to cancel their order, and refund my money...This is becoming a common occurrence on Half.com...And I am getting fed up with it...And when I complained to Half.com about it...They do NOTHING. There should be a STANDARD that sellers should have to meet - in order to keep selling on that site...Or else, that makes the site unprofessional.

eBay pickup buyers protection

Pickup items Beware! Ebay harvests scammers and provides the vehicle for scammers to collect money with no recourse for buyers to get money returned other than feedback against it. Sellers change usernames and ID and continue to post scams. Sellers can demand PayPal payment before providing pickup information, placing the buyer at risk.
I purchase furniture which was advertised as, "Furniture Sturdy", With a little tender loving care, it will once again be back to its former glory". [protected] Oct 04, 201112:21:11 PDT I paid $300. When I went to pickup, the furniture was in the rain and had lost all glue joints under peeling veneer. There was no chance to save the furniture. The owner agreed to return my money. I returned home to file a "not as described report immediately, PayPal Case # PP-[protected]. The seller did not return my money as promised.
ebay had no choice to favor the dispute towards the buyer as a pick-up item. All pick-up items cannot be protected. Scammer know this. ebay is aware of this also. eBay should place in bold letter that all pickup items are not covered with the eBay Buyers Protection. Ebay is providing the vehicle and momentum sales for active Scammers around the world as local sales. It is hard to understand how an A+ BBB member can provide such a pit fall. It is a vital mistake on eBay's business practices. It places sales above security. Individuals who browse through eBay's 3203 BBB complaints but see no reference to the complaints in the A+ ratings, have to wonder.
This move is deliberate on eBay's part to place more interest in establishing eBay stores. I bought local to avoid risk, however, this turned out to be just the opposite. eBay's pickup protection policy is a weak arm at best. My purchased item was stated covered by eBay Buyer Protection. I found out the protection was at ground zero. This protection rating should be clearly spelled out on all pickup items, as a warning of caution. Buyers at risk!

eBay truck no delivered

After I make the payment by Western Union. The truck never was delivered to my attention see one of the email from the seller:Victoria and Marcus Shields [victoria.[protected]@gmail.com]
Please take a few moments and read my email carefully, I know it is long, but I will explain all the details about the car and the transaction.
At the moment I'm stationed at Las Vegas, NV making final preparations before deploying to Iraq with the U.S. Convoy.

The car is already at our Military Logistic Department in Bethesda, MD, crated and ready to go. The Logistic Department will deliver the car to your home. I will cover the shipping cost, so don't worry it's free. Since the car is in a military base, with no access you can not go there and take it, only the Logistic Department can deliver it, because the car is in their custody.
Shipping may take anywhere between 2 to 4 business days depending on the destination. All documents you need for ownership, manuals and bill of sale will be provided along with the car.
For the payment I would like to use eBay as a third party. They will keep your money into a protection account until you get the car and will release it to me after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the car. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the car before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns you will have 10 days to inspect the car . If you decide not to keep it eBay will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back will be my concern. I think this is more than fair for both of us.

I'll start the official procedure, and eBay will contact you about this. If you are interested in buying it just mail me back with:
- Your Full Name - Required by eBay (You'll receive important guidelines + instructions from them.)
- Your Shipping Address and Phone Number - Required by the Logistic Department (They will call you with delivery/pickup instructions 1 day ahead so you can communicate what time schedule work best for your to receive the car).
Here is the VIN 5TEHN72N53Z176892
Again I want to point out that because I am going to Iraq this sale is my top priority and I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.
Best Regards !

I was looking for a good car from craigslist. I noticed there was a good deal listed. A 2007 Toyota Camry for $3, 300. I was interested in the deal so I emailed them back. The deal was that they wanted my full name address and phone number so that they can start an account with eBay. The car would be shipped at their expense. I was willing to drive to Las Vegas, NV to test drive and pick up car. They insisted that it would be easier that they deliver it to me and the payment would be handled thru eBay. I researched the name of the military base she was claiming had the car ready to go. I then came across the a page that had the exact email from the seller word for word with a complaint. I emailed her back with my concerns and letting her know that i know it is a scam and that i was not going to fall for it.

You know it says on Craigslist not to deal with anyone wanting you to wire money. If you took the time to look it would show the examples of the very same email you received. Also, that email you think was from ebay? Click where it says from: it didn't come from ebay. The vehicle did not exist. You got suckered in on a too good to be true scam.

eBay fees and policies

I have ripped off by eBay/PayPal twice now. The first time was when I "purchased" a Roland TD-8 machine from 321gotgoods (member Joseph Watt) for $425.00. eBay referred me to PayPal since my payment went through them and they opened a non-receipt complaint number with the "awaiting other party's response" which, obviously, never came. So, I was out my money even after reading how "eBay" is looking out for me to keep me and my transactions "safe" and secure, and from PayPal (who is eBay, in "bank form" entity - money changer). Never gotten my money back. Just recently, many years after this, I sold a box of items. I shipped the box (in which insurance was not offered nor requested on said box) and the shipper damaged the box (US Postal Service) and informed me of it. EBay refunded the "buyer" who still might have received the items because they had sent me a form citing that all merchandise found outside/without packaging is collected and sent to their recovery center in Arizona. I being stupid checked the box "ship to addressee" instead of "ship to sender" in case they had the items at their center. Now, I am out of the items and out the money if I accept this refund and agree to give eBay the right to collect and charge me the $25.00, but they told me that they had refunded the "buyer", Sean Murphy from CA, the amount of money. Way to back me up eBay/PayPal then charge me with being solely responsible for ensuring that my packages are delivered by the US Post Office!

Yep. Just had it happen a second time to us, too. The new scam seems to be overseas iPhone purchases. We sell them and the buyer files a claim with paypal after 2 weeks that they didn't receive it. Paypal refunded the money back after only 22 days of the SALE. Shipping during the holidays and to New Zealand meant nothing to paypal. The phone will arrive and I will be out the money and the phone. We are done with eBay and PayPal. Been buying and selling since 2002 with a 100% positive feedback score--that means NOTHING. It's the perfect scam that paypal is allowing and part of. Then, paypal refuses to refund the SELLER FEE's on top of your misery. Where is the class action lawsuit?

eBay damaged goods

I bought an 8GB flash drive from Yallstore on Ebay and promptly paid them though PayPal. They gave me a tracking number (that cannot be tracked) but the flash drive arrived. When it arrived it was internally damaged and was registering 0 (zero), yes 0GB instead of 8GB. I asked them if they can show me how to fix it or replace it. They agreed to replace it and said they sent me a new one. They even gave me another tracking number. They never really sent the replacement and the tracking number they gave me was a forgery. They invented the number and, of course, the item could not be tracked. Here I would like some help because I do not know if forging a tracking number is punishable by law. However, they kept asking me to be patient because the replacement will arrive eventually. They even offered me a part refund if I would wait and do not open a dispute on PayPal. Finally they even promised to send me 2 flash drives if I wait. They were gambling that I would trust them and by that, stop me from opening a dispute on PayPal. I did not trust them and opened the dispute. This did not do me any good though, because when one enters into PayPal's system, it is worse than entering into a labyrinth. Their customer support will kept passing you from one person to another, and every one of them is like a programmed machine, and without even consulting my communications with Yallstore to see what the issue is all about they just keep repeating their policies like a parrot. They expected me to return the return the damaged flash drive back if I wanted a refund. Not only that, they wanted me to send it in a way that it could be tracked. To put the reader in perspective, it would cost me more money to return the damaged flash drive back them than to buy a new one locally. Does not make sense? I need to ask why? Why should anybody want an unusable item back? I asked them to confirm that the flash drive they sent me was damaged by connecting with me through Skype so they will see for themselves. They never replied to that, they were not interested. I wonder if there is there some kind of conspiracy between PayPal and some sellers that make it impractical to return the item and with that they can keep the money a buyer spends in good faith. One thing for sure, PayPal's protection is worth to me as much as a punctured condom. I would rather protect myself than have PayPal protect me. And what about Yallstore? If somebody is stupid enough to buy from this seller and gets ripped off, he cannot say I have not tried to warn him. That is the reason why I am writing this.

eBay buyer protection fraud

eBay kept sending the same message that provided from Hong Kong seller who claimed they mailed this order. All the while Paypal transferred 79.99 to Hong Kong and item arrived in New York much later. eBay provides Buyer Protection Fraud in favor seller who keep pay eBay listing fees and PayPal transaction fees, but they rejected my refund request since buyer pay nothng to eBay. PayPal – www.paypal.com is an eBay company. I did not receive my order from a Hong Kong seller though eBay and made payment to Paypal. eBay so call Buyer Protection nothing but fraud in favor of seller who keep pay eBay listing fees and PayPal transaction fees. Never ever care buyer interest.

"In April 2007, a dark brown leather sofa set, sold by Vanaik Furniture and Mattress Store in Toronto, Canada, was labelled as “###-brown” color. Investigation determined that the Chinese manufacturer used an outdated version of Kingsoft's Chinese-to-English translation software for writing the tags; it translated the Chinese “dark-brown” characters to “###-brown”, and neither the Canadian supplier nor the store owner had noticed the incorrectly translated tag; subsequently, Kingsoft corrected its translation software. In Hong Kong English, the phrase ###-brown was, decades earlier, routinely used in newspapers without racist connotation"
this is something that i found off of wikipedia, so take it for what its worth. But, the item seller is from Hong Kong.
so, perhaps you should just get over it since its obvious that you are just as racist

eBay faulty d&g watch

I paid 100 GBP for a D&G watch on ebay that was sent to me with faulty parts- it did not work and the watchsmith explained it was not the battery but the mechanism that was faulty. I contacted the seller and they told me to go to a jewellers to get it fixed. They refused to refund me or fix the watch, and have been happy to scam me. I cannot open an ebay complaint because I was away and the the deadline had passed.

eBay defrauded by seller

Beware of ebay seller: hyyyy_394823 which is a fraudulent seller on ebay. I purchased a prepaid AT&T gophone card from that seller and after when the seller recharged my account and i started to use the phone the balance recharged was gone! I had to call AT&T and instead found out that they discredited by recharge amount because the ebay seller had used someone else's credit card without authorization and the true owner reported it. So as a warning please beware before making your purchase with seller hyyyy_394823.
I have been a loyal ebay customer for years and have enjoyed absolutely great service from them however I was displeased with their 45 day policy to file complaints against an ebay seller otherwise they will do nothing about your purchase and you are basically left without recourse.

eBay ebay - paypal loophole for theifs

After selling a phone on eBay UK and sending the phone to the buyer via special delivery (tracked and insured) the buyer then filed an item not as described claim in PayPal. As most of you are already aware PayPal normally will rule in favour of the buyer 90% of the time. The buyer was then asked to return the phone for a complete refund. HERE'S THE LOOPHOLE The buyer returns an empty box recorded delivery and then once signed for has proof of returning the phone (even though you just got an empty box) the money is then refunded to the buyer case closed. NO PHONE & NO MONEY. I tried every avenue to recover either the phone or the money to no avail. Police say it's a civil matter. PayPal say you need a police headed report. (Which you can't get because of the above) eBay are not interested because (well, in their words it's got nothing to do with us). I used PayPal's appeals process but again hit a brick wall because they ask for a police headed report you just can't get. You are now left feeling very disregarded and abused by the lack of protection eBay & PayPal promised you but renege on after the event. I feel eBay & PayPal are criminals and should be held accountable for their lies and broken promises to protect its consumers. I also believe our laws should be updated to prosecute these renegade companies like PayPal & eBay and make them held accountable for their disregard of criminal activity though there online businesses.

Amazing, I'm in the same boat, sent an Omega Seamaster watch to germany $136, buyer complained and Ebay ruled in the buyers favour, refunded money to the buyer and left me dangling waiting to see if i would get the watch back, and secondly would it be in a box in parts, today i received an envelope from germany, just that, an empty envelope,
After hours of communication with Ebay Ca, Ebay US and ebay Germany, they say i had 15 days to file an appeal, but how do i file an appeal while an item is in trasit and I'm waiting for the watch,

eBay bad seller/bad customer service

First, good job to all those who speak out against ebay! It is always a good rule to remember that all companies will look out for their own interest. So it is not surprising that ebay customer service is not willing to be of help. ebay wants their profits, simple as that.

To be fair, ebay is a good medium to purchase things you would not normally see. However, through my experiences…good and bad…there are certain rules that you should use when purchasing on ebay. I hope these are of help:

1. The first rule is to put all the responsibility on the seller. If the seller does not take the time to give an accurate and detailed description of the item, just assume fraud and do not buy.

2. Communicate to the seller and ask many questions before you decide to buy. Many sellers are honest and will take the time to describe their items. BUT…there are too many sellers on ebay who want to scam you. Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 ebay will side with the seller regardless if they are honest or not.

3. The language in an ebay listing does not matter! Example, if a seller lists an item as “original” and you discover the item is not original after you purchase it…too bad for you. ebay will not care because they got their money and the seller got their money. So ask the seller for proof if an item is original, never take their word unless you are very confident in the honesty of the seller.

4. Never buy anything without and money back guarantee! If the seller will not give you a money back guarantee, be safe and assume they are trying to scam you. Don’t buy without a guarantee!

5. (a 5-star rule and a rule ebay does not want you to know)
* * * * * If you purchase an item and you find out that it does not accurately match the description in the listing, never communicate to the seller first. Leave negative feedback at once and a detailed reason for the negative feedback.

The reasons is simple:
a) It is the seller’s responsibility to be honest.
b) If you say something innocent like, “You sold me a defective item. If you don’t exchange the item or refund my money, I will be forced to leave negative feedback.” In ebay world they can say you committed “feedback blackmail” and use this against you.
c) If the seller does rectify the situation, you can always change the feedback later.
d) If you leave negative feedback, ebay is a little more willing to help rectify the situation. Why?...
e) Negative feedback is just as bad for ebay as the seller. If more buyers left negative feedback about bad purchases, then the federal government’s consumer affairs division would monitor ebay more closely and ebay does not want this.

Ebay does not enforce its own listing policies, and the feedback system is virtually useless.

Their customer service is a joke.

The people that answer phone calls only direct the caller to help articles or forms on the website. Any complaints or concerns that you send via the available contact forms on EBay are answered with a form letter response.

The whole system is structured in such a way that you will never speak to anyone with any authority and no one will ever look at the “big picture” if you are having a problem with a seller, particularly a high volume seller. You can report a listing violation, you can request feedback withdrawal, you can open unpaid or undelivered item disputes, each of these processes occurs in a vacuum. No one will ever look at all of them together and connect the dots.

There are people that have set up EBay stores that simply post a bunch of listings for all of the items they carry, regardless of whether or not they actually have the item to deliver. If you report the listing violation EBay will do nothing. The ad will stay up until it expires.

So, a seller that does this on a regular basis would have a lot of negative feedback, right? NO, and here’s why: If you leave negative or even neutral feedback for them THEY WILL LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK FOR YOU, and then demand mutual withdrawal. EBay still allows the seller to leave feedback to your account even if the item violated listing policy!

I left negative feedback for a seller because he did not have the item listed and did not let me know for over two weeks. I also reported the listing violation. He immediately left negative feedback for me and even used the word “backordered” in the feedback comments, thus admitting the listing violation. He then opened an unpaid item dispute, even though I paid with PayPal and he knew I had record of it.

The only thing EBay did about any of this was to remove the unpaid item strike from my account when I appealed and sent proof of payment…and they acted like they were doing me a BIG favor. They even sent me some links to some helpful articles to read, so maybe I could learn not to screw up so bad in the future.

i purchased an item on ebay on 4/10. it was paid for on 4/10. 6 days later the seller decides to send the item. i wait 2 days after the promised date, then filed a complaint with ebay. the seller then contacted me stating the post office damaged the item and he would get it right out. no proof. yesterday, 4/24 i get an update on my purchase. the seller claims he resent the item, and states he gave me a tracking number. there is no tracking number in the email, and now it is 15 days after i purchased and paid for the item. i have not received the item yet. ebay says "work it out". how long do i have to wait? i believe 15 days is enough time to either receive my part, or my money returned. it seems like i get excuses every time i send email to the seller through ebay. i will never do business with either again.

I accidentily lost an item that i sold an e-bay, i tried to work it out with the buyer, he was not willing to help me out, and gave me a negative feedback, i called e-bay, and they could not help me either, after 2 years on keeping my account clean, and basically giving away my items because someone had a complaint or was not satisfied, i ended with a bad reputation, screw e-bay, they left me over an hour on hold, and they decided the left me with a poor score. i will stick with craig's list, at least there are not fees there, lesson to learn.

Bad buyers outnumber bad sellers on Ebay.

Good sellers have no protection from bad buyers who lie about item descriptions, item not received, shipping times and cost.

Ebay protects the buyer. Buyers can leave negative feedback for a good seller without any proof of anything wrong.

Bad buyers steal items by saying item not described, get refunded and keep items.

Seller is screwed.

I signed up to ebay about a month ago, and was subject to and experienced the Ebay/Paypal Monopoly first hand. I did not want to use Paypal to accept payments as I already have my own merchant account with First Data and they are half the price of Paypal. When listing my first item, I scrolled to the part where it asked how I would like to be paid. I un-checked Paypal, and checked credit card. On the next screen it said that in order to accept credit cards I had to fax a copy of my merchant account invoice to them to prove to them that I can support this method of payment. I faxed them the necessary documents, and the games began. 2 days went by and no message from them about what was going on. Then I called them and was asked why I did not want to use paypal, and that it is the preferred payment of ebay. I explained to them my situation, and they said they would look into the situation, and they would get back to my via email. I waited another 2 days, and nothing. I called them again, and they brought me to the listing page, and they walked me through and told me to click Paypal for payments accepted, and I told them I did not want to accept Paypal, and they were dumbfounded and did not know what to do. They knew nothing about how to integrate my merchant account. They told me I have to wait for T&S to contact me. The next morning I called them again, and was once again told to just use Paypal and recieved a pitch on how they were safe and secure. I asked to speak to a manager, and they told me the manager was not available. I then called again and they finally got to the bottom of things. I listed a couple of items, and after the first one ended, the buyer told me there was no way for him to pay. I called ebay again and they told me there was a "Pay Now" button in the email that was automatically sent to them after the auction ended. The buyer told me there was nothing there. I got this same response from every winning bidder that day. I called ebay and they once again told me that I should accept Paypal for payments until they get the situation fixed. I told them I would not pay for the listing fees so far and they told me I have to pay them, and that it is like listing an ad in the paper and the listing fees are non-refundable. The next day they told me that they fixed the problem, and then I listed a couple items, and everything seemed to be good, until the first auction was down to the last minute. The account was blocked by Paypal, and I was informed that they needed more information on my Paypal account in order for the account suspension to be lifted. I called ebay and they told me the block was from Paypal. I called Paypal and they asked for my SS# and receipts for the items I was selling. I told them I never opened a Paypal account, and they told me regardless, they would still need the information in order to lift the suspension, and until then, the account would remain blocked. I called Ebay and they told me there was in fact a Paypal account linked to my ebay account and that there was nothing they could do. Now, I NEVER opened a Paypal account nor did I link it to my ebay account. To me, this is yet another shady desperate attempt by Ebay to force new members that do not know any better to use Paypal to accept Paypal so they can make money from every angle. When I call them and tell them this whole scenario, they ask me if there is anything they can help me with, otherwise the phone call will be disconnected. They no longer respond to my email regarding this and they told me that if I keep contacting them through ebay live chat that they would bring up charges for Harassment. What a way to run a company. I also notice that when you post ANY negative comments about ebay that are valid in the ebay forums, the comments are removed and you are banned from posting in their forums. They are trying to cover up anything negative about their company, but truth be told..., check out Ebay and Paypal on the Better Business Bureau and see all the complaints they have since January. There are well over 10, 000 of them. Ebay soon will be a thing of the past and they will continue to lose thousands of members a week to Amazon, just like me.

I agree with everything in this article except the comment about retaliatory feedback. In 2008 eBay changed their feedback policies to prevent sellers from leaving anything except positive feedback for buyers to "protect" them from feedback "blackmail".

I wasn't a high volume seller, but I used to sell things here and there on eBay, until the new policy rolled out. I experienced the other side of the coin; I always worked hard to make sure the buyer was happy, but one time I got burned by a buyer who apparently didn't like the item he purchased and left me negative feedback without even contacting me for a resolution. I would have gladly taken the item back and refunded his money, but instead I got a negative feedback.

From a former seller's prospective, other negatives about eBay are the value of items sold on eBay are plummeting while eBay continues to restructure their fees to get more money from you (between eBay and PayPal, I would lose about 20-30% of what my auctions earned).

eBay used to be a fantastic place to buy and sell, it was a modern marvel. But it has lost its roots and become just another business that takes your money and offers you little service.
