For five years I have been subjected to harassment in Dutchess County NY because four people stole our legal mailing address.In 1999 the County FORCED us to change our address so they could put 911 calling in Dutchess County.( I have 6 copies of the paperwork FORCING us to change our address) Of course we followed the law and changed our address. In 2002 4 people illegally began using our address. I have tried to get help from 3 sheriffs and 2 state police officers. Every time I am told to shut up, stop yakkety yacking, YOU will be taken to court or there is nothing we can do about people illegally using your address we cannot investigate a crime unless we SEE it taking place! These people are illegally registering their children at school and stealing anything they want from us with the police helping them for years now by teling me to shut up. I will not. Yesterday 2 women showed up from Astor Head Start Program because now someone new is listing our address as theirs to enroll family members with Astor Head Start program in Dutchess County. So I again went to the USPS to file a complaint ( the 4th time) The supervisor at the Post Office informed me there is nothing the police can do about people illegally registering children at schools or using ANYONE's address illegally to steal our mail. So I said 'then it is the Counties fault they FORCED us to change our address' and she informed me it was not the Counties fault there just isn't much anyone can do. So everyone in NY should know that anyone who wants can use your legal mailing address in NY State for any reason they want, crimes, to illegally register children in school, to steal your utility history or access medical records and there is nothing you can do about it.Also this means that they can use anyone's address and that would include the sheriff's department address, the postal supervisors address or any County officials address. If the police cannot investigate then anyone can use their address also.
