Duke Energy unethical behaviour

Has anybody in Florida tried to get a Duke Energy Home Energy Check in their home? This service is being offered by Duke in our bills, online and just about everywhere. This is an offer they have made on their own. I have tried to participate but have been totally unsuccessful. We can get the energy check in our home, online or by telephone. To me the only choice that seems like it can be even close to accurate is in the home. I submitted a request through their website and received an email with a phone number to call to set an appointment but have tried that number 5 times and all I get is put on hold forever while listening to Duke propaganda. Does anyone know if Duke ever answers that phone? After so many attempts, I replied to their email stating that they could just call me instead and included my phone number, so far nothing. Does anyone think they will call? Right, me neither. I submitted a second online request and got the same email message as before. Do any of you feel like Duke has ever ignored you or made offers that they have absolutely no intention of fulfilling? I know it's hard to believe but I think that's what may going on here!

You are right - waait and wait and wait and wait my turn for something Duke offered me, I did not ask them. Again, if they did not have enough personnel they should not have made the offer. 'It is astonishing how many people do not understand the definition of the word: unethical."

If they cannot provide a service in a timely, professional manner they should not make the offer to begin with.

They do provide service in a timely fashion to those who are on the phone waiting their turn before you. People complain about the price of the service. People never understand the price reflects the payroll of people working there. More people means more payroll which means higher prices. Like I said...wait your turn.

Should we pay for the extra people hired when it will still take as long waiting! Duke Energy excuse! Next the Tooth Fairy made them do it!

How many responses do you think they get? How many customers do you think they have? Put the phone on speaker and hold til it is your turn.

It is astonishing how many people do not understand the definition of the word: unethical.

Duke Energy will not reissue a check

I recently sold my home and was issued a refund check for 160.41. I realized that my late husband's name and my name appeared on the check so I would have to have the check reissued in my name only. I have been paying Duke from my Bank of America checking account every month on time since 2006-My name is the only name on the checking account. They said it is their POLICY to NOT reissue a check, even if I send them a death certificate. The check was issued 4/28/2016. My account number is [protected]. This is a terrible policy which I think is designed so that Duke can keep more money in their account. I am a senior citizen and am building a new home where I will be using Duke Energy again. I can't believe this is how they treat customers with an excellent payment history.

If you, the spouse, never removed your deceased husband's name from the power account, then that is your fault. The account is in both your names, so therefore the refund check will also be. What you can do, is contact your bank and ask them how to cash the check. Most likely, all you need is the proof of you being the executor of the estate as well as a copy of his death certificate.

Duke Energy worst utility company i've had the displeasure of dealing with

Tried to set up service at an address where house numbers had recently been changed. (911 system changed the entire neighborhood. I told them this from the first contact I had, old number was 380, new number is 750 and is on a large green sign at the top of the driveway now. I told them to make sure anyone who comes out to the address was well aware. I gave them the former owner's name that was on the account. Long story short, our house had no power for a week, they couldn't figure it out no matter how many people I spoke with. Told me it was an outage in the neighborhood. Kept sending people to the wrong address. Technician said he was never told about the address change. They finally fixed it, said it was because it was the wrong meter number on our meter. ? Filed a claim for $100 in spoiled food and they denied it….SAID CUSTOMER GAVE THEM THE WRONG HOUSE NUMBER! AUUUGHHH. Criminally bad service.

Duke Energy electric service with fraudulent balances, payment and credits owed not applied to the old account they accepted in the old account

Duke Energy Progress along with documented complaints with the NC Public Utilities Commission and even faxed Statements from Duke Energy Progress makes it clear is that Duke Energy Progress is guilty of FRAUD and UNFAIR and DECEPTIVE Trade Practices in Billing, did not apply proper payment to the old account, Rep. told the Utilities commission that the account balance was $338.23 but deleted the account information online today (11/2/15) to reflect a balance of $1, 470.94 with an inaccurate and fraudulent balance due by Nov. 4, 2015 and they claimed they would resend a statement of $338.23 that not only they didn't resend but they made it up online they did with a fraudulent balance in a difference of over $1, 100. When you talk talk to their Customer Service at Duke Energy Progress they claim you have to talk to the NC Public Utilities whose representatives did not properly handle the payment not applied to the proper account though accepted by that account, nor proper credit of 2 services that was not applied to the account which was their Wiring service and Home Repair service that were cancelled 1 within a day and the 2nd before that months end. What needs to be investigated also is if they were end with the fraudulent practices of banks like Bank of America and Wells Fargo of the illegal foreclosure of the property they have done including submitting fraudulent Assignments of Deed of Trust, Fraudulent Promissory Notes or Security Instruments, fraudulent Substitute Trustee Documents with no valid original account number, fraudulent and invalid Lenders/servicers making up RESPA documents that are not timely and was never mailed to the homeowner timely, is just a few of the many Federal and State violations against Homeowners and all the parties involved in support of these fraudulent foreclosures and exercise the same illegal and fraudulent activity.

Duke Energy poor service and frequent outages

Duke Energy can't seem to keep the power on here in Anderson Township/Cincinnati, Ohio. It doesn't even have to be storming, and the power will just go out here along Woodruff Road and in the surrounding neighborhoods in Zip code 45255. Their service is abysmal. I've tried calling customer service on several different occasions and you can never get through to a live person. It's very frustrating because you never know what caused the outage or how long it will be out. Normally, it takes over 3 hours for them just to get it back on. It can be a perfectly sunny day with no wind and the power will go out for hours. I think we are on a bad grid because of how often the power goes out and they never seem to have a reason for it. I've talked to some friends who live in other parts of Cincinnati, and their power rarely goes out.

This message is quite accurate. I live in Withamsville, Ohio, just over the Clermont County line and have Duke Energy as our provider. My power goes out quite frequently as well here. I haven't counted how many times, but I know it's been several in the last couple of months. It screws up everything on my clocks, computers, and cable television boxes. I always call to report the outage, but they never say what caused it or how long it will actually be out. The service is very unreliable and will go out at random. It seems like it has gotten worse in the last couple of years. That tells me that they need to start trimming trees better along the lines, and upgrading their old equipment. The weather doesn't even have to be bad for an outage to occur. Complaining to them does no good because they don't care. I will report them to the PUCO and BBB, then maybe something will change.

I agree with this post. I live over on Nordyke Road in Anderson Township as well and the power always goes out here to. I'm getting really tired of their outages. It seems like it's every other week now. Maybe I should start paying my bill accordingly and give myself discounts for the unreliable service I receive.

Duke Energy not honoring their warranty and protection plans

This complaint has come about because I am tired of being told by Ferron Electric contractors of Duke that there is nothing wrong with my exterior panel. All electronic appliances are not in working order in my home. There is a problem with my stove, refrigerator, garbage disposal and AC unit. I am a consumer that wants to be protected, so I pay for their home wire maintenance program and their surge protection program but some reason every time I attempt to file a claim to have my problem fixed they deny the claim and never repair the appliance as I had thought they would. Each and every time I am left holding the bag. With new appliance that appear to be lemons and don't work. Let Duke tell it! I am tired of seeking help form a corporation like Duke and not getting the help I need. My complaint is an ongoing problem. My home is always being hit with power surges.

Duke Energy billing fees

I always pay my Duke Energy bills online. This month I have tried for 2 weeks to pay using this method. Every time I go to the website it gives an error message and says payment cannot be made. When I called to Duke they said it was a problem with their website and that I could only make payment over the phone for a fee. They said this was impacting many customers who normally make payment online. Its not a substantial fee but its the principal that the problem is in their system and they are trying to charge me to receive my payment via an alternative method. This closely resembles fraud on the part of the company as they strongly encourage consumers to switch to online payments but then they force you to use an alternative with fees attached when their website is not working. This is bad business and the help division of Duke just repeats the tired standard line of "We're sorry for any inconvenience". That is not good enough. You need to reimburse the fees that are stealing from 1000s of consumers at this time and give a complete update to all customers as to when the online payment option is going to be available once again. Stop ripping off your customers!

Duke Energy stealing

I contacted Duke Energy t pay a bill today and shortly thereafter, I noticed that the draft on my account was duplicated. Duke Energy actually drafted two of the same payments with two different tracer numbers, from my account. When questioned about these transactions, Duke Energy first denied that they did this. Then asked me for bank statements that I did provide. Then they went on to say that in order to give me my money back, they would first have to find out where it went and how this happened, as if that has something to do with me. This happened on January 29, 2015 around 9:00 am. After speaking with 3 of the most unhelpful reps. on the planet, I am still no closer to getting an answer of my money back. One rep. even went as far as to say that I couldn't speak to anyone higher up than her because there was no one higher up than her. These types of practices along with a few of the ones that I've just on this site, is a clear indication that there needs to be options for people in the utilities industry. Duke Energy evidently understands by way of the poorest customer care that I've seen since my time with TWC, that having a monopoly is like having a communicable disease, it just passes the worst parts of its self on to others.

Duke Energy Service issue

I have not received any bills from Duke Energy since October, and that was the last time I sent in payment. I travelled for two days; I came back and the power was out. I called Duke Energy, and made the payment at 1:30 am. The automatic customer said the power is rei store. I waited for 10 minutes and the power still down. I called Duke Energy again. Customer Service lady said power will be on after 8am. It was 8:51am and power still down. I called Duke Energy again. Now, they said it will be from 8am to midnight. I never experienced energy company take that long to turn on power, and I live in small town in South Carolina. I understand if I don't pay the bill then Dukr does not turn on power. However, since I made the payment. Then, I would think Duke service should be faster. This situation will never happen if ComEd is serving the residents in Greenville.

Duke Energy service issues/outages

I am writing to complain about the poor service I am receiving from Duke Energy, our electric provider here in Cincinnati, Ohio. I live in a neighborhood called Anderson Township and the power has been going out a lot on my street. It has gone out about 7 times in the last 3 months. I have had two blown cable boxes and a blown thermostat thanks to all of these outages and surges. It's getting ridiculous how often it goes out. It doesn't matter if the weather is sunny or stormy and windy. There is no rhyme or reason for it. I have called and emailed Duke numerous times and they claim to check the line but obviously they haven't since the problems keep happening. When you call the toll-free outage number or check their website, they never give you any correct information as to how long the outage will last nor can you get a live person on the line. I pay over $200 a month for this kind of service and am getting tired of the frequent outages. I need reliable electric service because I run a business out of my home.

Duke Energy delivery service charge

I thought my gas bill was a little to high. I turned off the gas to my hot water heater and furnace. I waited on my next bill. I was shocked when my usage was 3 ccf. My charge for that is .10. I have a 4.67 charge for delivery riders. And a delivery service charge for 33.03. Why would I cost me 40.49 to use .10 worth of gas

Duke Energy most expensive bill ever!

Duke everythings me if I want a meter reader put on and tells me I will save on my bill. I agreed. Well after they put the stupid thing on I get a bill the next month for over 400$! Mind you that my bills during past winter and summer the highest bill was 220! I usually keep my bills under 200$. This is outrageous! i call duke energy and ask them why my bill is so high and they say well we will send someone out monday to check it and make sure its working properly... monday comes and they tell me that its working fine that I should call an electirician. So i did! And he checked everything in the house and says nothing wrong. So wth?! And I just got my bill after having that meter reader taken off and my bill is 177$! So I know something I know something went wrong in their part! And they are not even looking into it or give a rats behind about it!

Duke Energy scam

Buyer Beware ! Purchased every residential Electrical Protection plan they offer a few years ago and pay each month. Upon having a Samsung 55" Flat screen take on a surge they disputed the claim due to I didn't purchase 'THEIR' surge protectors. I told the claims agent that they didn't advise me that I had to purchase their protectors or I would have. After all what's the point of paying on a plan which wouldn't be valid. So i asked the lady to please review the phone conversation they recorded on the day I ordered the service so they could hear their employee NEVER advised me I had to purchase their protectors nor did she even offer to sell them to me. They said they couldn't do that. Very disappointing when a large company starts "Scamming" their customers only to increase profits. We just had our new Water Softener take on a surge which burned out the motor. The repair man stated so on the invoice. I'm curious how this claim will go on Monday morning.

I can better than that. I have been paying $8.00 a month for over 5 years now to Duke Energy. Recently had about 3 power outages which lasted over 3 hours due to equipment failure. The last outage was this past weekend. the As a result my stove is messed up and they are now refusing to fix it. The surge protection was supposed to take care of your inside equipment if anything happens.. So why I am paying these people $8.00 a month? This is hogwash... I am done- will take my chances

Duke Energy deposit for slow pay - quadruple bill?

I am sorry, someone has fallen on hard times and their solution is to charge an additional $300 plus on top of their account? It is illegal. They promise to give it back if you make your payments on time for a year. That is extortion and a crime. List my husband in October of 2015! Had issue withe duke and called them! The result of this call was that I had to pay them almost 350.00 to put in my name and had no choice, I had paid thus bill from my personal account fo 4 years!two months later I received my bill and my monthly usage bill was over 500.00, my home is 1130 sq ft, I ham living alone and I am gone 9 hours a day! The temps were unusually warm that month in Indiana! I called and was told there would be an investigation and there was defiinaly same thing wrong and it would be taken care of. Next bill came and was normal usage and large bill still there! Called again was suppose to check meter and I had fur as inspected! Again all that gapped is that I found out that my fur as was ok! Called again and all I could get was a payment agreement! I have been having very hard time making ends meet and called then today to see if I could get an extension of a week on my payment! All I got was treats of shut off ! When ask to speak to someone with some responsiba was told no one was available! These people have cost me 800.00 in 6 months! My as well be 6 million and they just don't care! Been rude, hateful, and Doug right disrespectful! Something needs to be done!

Duke Energy longer billing cycle

Duke energy sent letter to consumer notifying that billing date for reading meter has change. They added seven days on to my billing cycle. Letter sent to consumer half way through billing cycle. Duke energy has two tier charge system, undr 1000kwh for which they bill you at 7.04700. The rate above 1000 kwh per billing cycle is 8.28200. Therefor every consumer in my zip code 32828 will recieve bills over 1000kwh for this cycle when I have not gone over 1000kwh this summer. This is just price gougeing the consumer. Called duke energy about this a was told there is nothing they can do about this. Highway robbery if you askme. For every consumer that pay a little more for those extra seven days of kwh use is more money in there pocket. Yet they are asking the state of florida for a rate increase next year.

Duke Energy power pole price to move

About 2 years ago we called progress energy (was taken over by Duke now) and got an engineer (Terrance) to come out and give us information on moving the power pole with transformer to the property line so that it is no longer in the middle of our driveway. We were told it was $1500 to move the pole. Needless to say to move it is about 50 feet to the fence. We just could not afford to get the pole moved at that time so I called Duke and requested to see about moving it again. Unfortunatley the engineer Terrance called me and stated he "remembered" the conversation from two years ago and that due to the price of the pole and labor it would probable be more then what he said two years ago. Really? It is only fifty feet to the fence? I have had people try to drive by it with a boat in tow and have scraped the side of their boat. My father who is 75 has bumped into the pole. What else needs to happen for Duke energy to move the pole without charging a single income family an arm and a leg. I pay my bill monthly and I feel they get enough of my hard earned income to have to pay for the labor in moving THEIR pole. Isn't that why they charge us so much per month to handle labor costs? Really this is just so stupid and I don't see the logic in charging customers so much for moving their property.

50 feet or 15000 feet it is the same process. The pole has to be uprooted, moved, a new hold dug, and reset. They also have to disconnect the power, the lies and situate them. The fee includes not only those things, but also the inconvenience to the other customers who may be without power while that happens. They also have to pay the wages to the crew who will dig, move, and resit the pole, as well as the power crew who will be dealing with the lines. It ain't cheap.

Well I was quoted $7, 881 to move my pole less than 50 feet and it's a brand new pole. They placed it there without my knowledge of knowing a pole was going in. I met them and told them where I wanted the transformer, but they never disclosed to me that there was a pole going anywhere. It has prevented me being able to park my truck on MY property. I tried to escalate the situation with Duke, but they just keep sending me back to the same engineer that quoted me this astronomical price for something I never even agreed to anyway. Meanwhile I tried to get this resolved immediately after it happened and this engineer was out of work for several weeks on medical leave and Duke chose to wait until he came back to work to resolve the issue. This is unacceptable for me to have to pay to move the pole.

Duke Energy stealing of of customers

You know all of us at one time has come across hard times, and corporations really do not care. We are only one in billions of people, and they, ( DUKE ENERGY) are no different! I had a 400.00 bill due on OCt. 2, 2012. I paid the full amount on Sept. 28th 2012. bill states 194.00 paid, or my service my be disconnected. I paid the full amount on the 28th. So needless to say they still disconnected my service. Because it was NOT in their office, and processed, I had had no power for twenty four hours. I forgot to mention that I tried to show the tech prior to leaving that the bill was in fact paid. She did not care. It was not on their books, therefore not paid. They had 6 days to record the numbers in their systems, and finally did so. Not until they charged me another 200.00 dollar reconnection fee, of course on my next bill! They are the only company in this area, or I would switch immediately. There is no one in the consumers behalf. I lost two freezers full of food, lost a expensive snake, and the mental anguish of the whole ordeal. And they still get more of my hard earned money. This is how a trillion dollar company makes their money. RIPPING OFF ITS CUSTOMERS. DUKE ENERGY, refused to give me the corporate phone number to contact them. They do not have it! Really? No contact number for a consumer. How stupid I am!

Duke Energy utility bill

I moved to Orlando in June. My first bill that I received from Progress Energy was $120, a bit steep but considering I had my A/C set to 72-74 degrees all June it didn't seem too high. My bills for August and Sept were $180-190 which makes no sense considering I had my A/C set to 78-80 degrees and I was traveling half the time so I didn't use my dryer, lights, or any utilities that much. I live in a small one bedroom apartment and cannot fathom how my bills would be higher than what my mom pays for her 3 bedroom house! In my previous apartment in Tampa, my energy bills ranged from $65-80, and that's when I was enrolled in online schooling so I used a great deal more energy. I live on a month-to-month budget and these past two bills have caused me to cut my food costs, and if they continue to be this steep I cannot afford my other bills and have no clue what I'm going to do. I cannot understand how a small one bedroom apartments energy bill would be that high, I would have to be running my dryer constantly with the A/C set to freezing. I requested a home energy check weeks ago and never was contacted, so I'm not too happy with Progress Energy. Reading other people's complaints makes me jump to the conclusion that Progress Energy is vastly overcharging for services because they run a monopoly on this area. I used to be annoyed with TECO but now I long for the days of their mediocre customer service, at least I didn't suspect my bills were being unfairly charged. If anyone has any tips or suggestions as to how I can lower my bill, please comment. This past month I started air drying my clothes so I wouldn't have to use the dryer, and the only difference in my bill was $10...so I'm clueless at to what the heck is draining all my energy and how to help improve my next bill. Thanks.

I can completely understand where you are coming from! However, there are many factors in why energy bills rise.
1) How many days are in the billing cycle from previous month to current
2) Has the daily temperature rose? By each degree you would want to add about 9% per degree. So if it went up 2 degrees that would be 18% roughly
3) Was your bill "actual" or "estimate"
4) When was the last time AC was serviced?
5) What temperature setting is your water heater on? Suggest 110 to 125 MAX (120 is usually best)
6) Dry clothes in evening time when it is cooler
7) Do your own Energy Audit through their site, is helpful because when the auditors come out; they are just going to say Ac 78 when home 80 when gone Water heater settings, stuff like that..

I am a single mother and I am on a budget and I can't afford to pay my electric with the high cost from Progress Energy and the rest of my bills and that is including my rent. I don't understand how my bill is higher than my sister's and she has a 3 bedroom house with more people living there and I have a 2 bedroom apartment, with less people. Someone needs to explain how this is possible and also I am from Maryland and I have found that Florida does not want to help you with your bills there is never anywhere to go to find help with your bills because they are always out of funds and if they do help it is once per lifetime, so what are families to do when they have a low income become homeless or use candles and take the risk of catching your house on fire.
